Since 1497, twenty-one generations of the Raventos family have farmed the very same lands located in the Anoia Valley just west of Barcelona. It was the Raventos family who helped established the D.O. or "Denominación de Origen" for Spanish Cava nearly 100 years ago. In 2012, the same family who withdrew from the Cava D.O. with the dream of creating a new D.O., specific to the Anoia Valley with much stricter requirements than most of today's Cava producers who focus on maximizing production at the expense of quality. Anoia River Valley makes excellent wine for great sparkling wine. This area was once covered by the Mediterranean Sea which left behind fossilized marine life in the limestone as the sea receded over several million years that gives their sparkling wine its defining drive and vivid profile. A great terroir, add to that 18 months on the lees (Cava minimum 9 months), biodynamically estate farmed from 40 year old vines. This is not Cava.
