From the pioneering producers of cool climate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir on the rugged Sonoma Coast, these elegantly crafted selections from Flowers Vineyard and Winery express their high-altitude vineyard origins in the Western Sonoma Coast AVA with bright, fresh flavors and vibrant acidity, all “impeccably made and high quality” according to Jeb Dunnuck and bargain priced for stocking up by the dozen.

Among the first to recognize the potential for growing grapes high on the rugged Sonoma Coast, founders Joan and Walt Flowers planted their first vineyard in 1990 and established Flowers Vineyard and Winery in 1998, their success with cool climate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir attracting an influx of elite winemakers including Martinelli, Pahlmeyer, Peter Michael and Williams Selyem over the next decades. Since forging a partnership with the Flowers in 2009, Quintessa owner Augustin Huneeus has continuously upgraded the vineyards and winemaking at the estate, hiring top Burgundy winemaker and consultant Jeremy Seysses of Domaine Dujac in 2016 to work alongside winemaker Chantal Forthum and “helping to set a new standard for quality” in the region according to the Wine Spectator’s Kim Marcus. Sourced from Pinot Noir grapes grown in Sonoma Coast vineyards including Flowers’ organically farmed Sea View Ridge, the fresh and vibrant 2022 Flowers Rose was aged in 90% stainless steel and 10% neutral French oak, its bright red berry aromas complemented by flavors of citrus and watermelon with vibrant acidity on a refreshing finish. Blending Chardonnay from Camp Meeting and other coastal vineyards in a style described by Jeb Dunnuck as “classic, elegant Sonoma Coast,” the 2022 Flowers Chardonnay was aged in 18% new French oak for 10 months, yielding pure, bright fruit flavors with a creamy texture, lithe minerality and well-balanced acidity. Produced in a year described as “a benchmark vintage for California Pinot” by the Wine Spectator, the elegant 93 pt. 2021 Flowers Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir was sourced from select family-owned vineyards on the Sonoma Coast as well as the Flower’s Sea View Ridge, revealing enticing red fruit layered with earthy spice and vibrant acidity and earning the #68 spot on the recently released Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2023.

Continuing the estate’s “upwards shift in quality” according to the Wine Independent's Lisa Perrotti-Brown through a vineyard-driven approach, these Flower Vineyards and Winery selections are crafted to reveal precise fruit flavors and mineral-driven acidity unique to the remote, high-altitude vineyards of the Sonoma Coast, a standout value for fans of California cool climate wines at a price that makes them easy to reach for again and again.

This is really tangy and vivid with sliced lemons and green apples with stone and white peaches. Some flowers and botanicals. Medium body. Firm and fine phenolics and a fresh finish. Drink or hold.

Soaring lemon cream aromatics accented by notes of seaspray, lemongrass and beeswax mark this coastal Chardonnay from Flowers on the Sonoma Coast. The palate is fresh and linear. Oyster shell salinity, bee pollen and grilled lemon make for a savoury balance with delicate crushed chalk minerality.

93 points, Clive Pursehouse, Decanter (Oct 2023)
