Located near a crossroad connecting Highway 128 to the Silverado Trail, Frank Family Vineyards occupies a historic stone building built in 1884 that housed the original Larkmead Winery, the landmark property acquired by former Disney executive Rich Frank and legendary Napa winemaker Koerner Rombauer in the 1990’s. After purchasing a home on the hills overlooking Rutherford with a small vineyard, Rich Frank partnered with his friend Rombauer to produce wine at the facility, but after a catastrophic fire spared only the historic building in 2000, Rich became the sole owner and rebuilt the damaged portion of the winery, renaming it Frank Family Vineyards. Sourced from 380 acres of estate vineyards in Carneros, Rutherford, and Capell Valley, long time winemaker and GM Todd Graff employs the same barrel aging across the Napa Collection, utilizing a mix of one-third new French oak barrels with one-third in once-used barrels and one-third in twice-used barrels. Sourced from cooler climate vineyards in Carneros, the luscious 2022 Frank Family Vineyard Chardonnay balances rich fragrant fruit and a creamy texture from lees stirring with bright acidity, while the richly aromatic 2022 Frank Family Pinot Noir reveals fresh, juicy fruit hinting of earthy spice with vibrant acidity on a satiny finish. The rich 2021 Frank Family Vineyard Zinfandel offers ripe dark bramble fruit layered with pepper and spice from estate vineyards in Capell Valley and Rutherford while the smooth and satisfying 93 pt. 2021 Frank Family Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon boasts “moderate to full tannins around a mix of bright red cherries, black cherries, mint and cassis” according to James Suckling with well-integrated tannins that promise a decade of longevity.
