Richly concentrated and beautifully balanced on a steady stream of fine beaded bubbles, the utterly delicious 94 pt. Champagne Soutiran Collection Privee Grand Cru Brut checks all the boxes for top tier bubbly, an opulently textured Grand Cru champagne meticulously crafted by winemaking husband and wife Patrick and Valerie Renaux, boasting “impeccable pedigree and tons of class” according to Antonio Galloni and an exciting, exclusive opportunity for B-21 Champagne aficionados to acquire an undervalued, age worthy gem.

Founded over a half century ago by her grandfather Gerard Soutiran, third generation Valerie and her husband Patrick took over the reins of Champagne Soutiran in 1999, expanding the estate’s reputation for elegant and finessed Champagne by isolating the individual parcels, extending bottle aging to develop richness and complexity and limiting the amount of added sugar or “dosage” to more clearly express each cuvee’s exceptional terroir. Located in the Grand Cru village of Ambonnay on the Montagne de Reims, the sustainably farmed estate vineyard for the Collection Privee Grand Cru Brut is an area considered optimal for growing Pinot Noir, known as the source of Krug's celebrated and most expensive cuvee, Clos d'Ambonnay. An almost even blend of Grand Cru Chardonnay and Grand Cru Pinot Noir, the Collection Privee Grand Cru Brut was partially vinified in large oak casks, bottled with a small dosage the following spring and then aged on the lees for 5 years, yielding a richly flavorful champagne boasting “tangy acidity and fine bubbles” according to James Suckling with “a toasty and delicious finish.”

Produced in small amounts with each numbered bottle bearing the cellaring date, the enchanting 94 pt. N/V Champagne Soutiran Collection Privee Grand Cru Brut offers insider access for Champagne lovers and collectors to acquire an elegant, artisan-crafted Grand Cru champagne deeply structured to age over the next decade and remarkably priced at a fraction of the Grand Marques’ cuvees.

A impressively mature wine, this is poised between fruit and toasty maturity. The Champagne is rich, on the dry side but with fruit and texture that have now softened. The wine is complex and will age further. Drink from 2023.
