The delivery was a day late; more the fault of the shipping company, I’m sure. Being on schedule is important for alcohol, because it can only be delivered to the person named on the order, and has to be signed for. How about having to reschedule your work day because of a late delivery. Apart from that, I’m very happy with this retailer ‑ they have what I need, and very reasonably priced.

Alambique Serrano La Sociedad Florida Rum Society Cask Rum (750ml)
From Oaxaca, Mexico

"Not one for the faint of heart, it’s a big, brash powerhouse that challenges the established rum conventions in the best possible way." - Andrew Kitz, B-21 Spirits Buyer

If you're a rum fanatic, Florida is where you want to be - after all, we're America's gateway to the tropics. The Florida lifestyle is fully in sync with tiki culture, and nobody celebrates it better than the Florida Rum Society, a group of industry professionals and hardcore rum aficionados on a mission to bring this remarkable spirit into the mainstream. Part of that mission is hand-selecting truly distinctive single casks from all over the rum world to showcase the incredible stylistic diversity and singular character of this beloved spirit. While many of their selections hail from some of the category's most well-known and distinguished names (think Worthy Park, Hampden, Planteray, Rhum Clement, Holmes Cay, etc.), they have a knack for unearthing some unbelievable, under-the-radar finds that will broaden the horizons of even the most seasoned rum veteran. Today's offer fits that bill and then some.

Mexico's Alambique Serrano may not be a household name, but the craftsmanship and work ethic of this third-generation distillery are undeniable, leading to La Sociedad, the very first FRS single-cask selection from "south of the border." Founded in the early 1930s in Oaxaca by German immigrant Max Krassel, Alambique Serrano is now run by Max's four grandsons, who still put in the same kind of arduous work their grandfather did when he began producing his aguardiente in the village of Santa Maria Tlalixtac high in the Oaxacan cloud forest. The cane fields here are so steep that the brothers harvest and transport the cane by donkey, horse, and mule to a mobile trapiche for milling, before gravity-feeding the cane juice down the mountain to the palenque, a labor of love if there ever was one. After fermenting in an open-top pine vat with ambient yeasts and distilling on a rustic, copper alembic still, the spirit was aged for two years in virgin French oak in dry conditions over 5,600 feet above sea level. The result is an 11 on the intensity scale, a full cask-strength stunner that's unlike anything else we've ever come across in the rum category. If you're looking to take your rum collection to the next level, this cask and the several other FRS cask selections available on our website are unequivocal must-try specimens for anyone who's serious about the world's best rum.

93AK

The first Mexican rum ever selected by the Florida Rum Society for their private cask series, this is a true heater in every sense. It’s bottled at full cask strength, so it really comes together with a few drops of water or a cube. Distilled from pure cane juice grown at high elevation, the La Sociedad cask was aged two years in virgin French oak, which the spirit carries very well. The light amber color is flecked with veins of orange, a real treat for the eye that leads to a very intense nose – give it plenty of air at the first pour as it’s quite hot. Defined by the barrel influence at first, the aromas segue into a fascinating interplay of fresh orchard fruits, cooked tropical fruits, and ripe rhubarb sitting against a backdrop of vanilla pod, canela stick, and pie crust. The first taste reflects the heat of the nose as well as the intense spice character, which gives way to sweet peppers and agave-like high tones with a medicinal edge. Time in the glass tames the intensity, and a truly compelling, layered profile emerges – spiced chocolate and Mexican wedding cookies on the nose, both mirrored on the palate by flavors of sugar cookie, macarons, and rich chocolate custard. Not one for the faint of heart, it’s a big, brash powerhouse that challenges the established rum conventions in the best possible way.

Cabernet Sauvignon from Saint-Julien, Bordeaux, France

"I continue to absolutely love what this estate puts in the bottle, and it remains an incredible value given its quality." - Jeb Dunnuck

The above quote neatly sums up the recent track record of St-Julien's Château Saint-Pierre. A perennial example of the combination of incredible collectible pedigree and accessible price for which Bordeaux is world-renowned, Saint-Pierre is a hidden gem that allows collectors of all stripes to load their cellars with long-haul contenders that won't break the bank.

This quartet of in-stock modern classics shows why the estate has racked up one stellar review after another from across the critical space, turning out some of the sharpest cellar-worthy buys on the Left Bank over the past decade. The "brilliant" 2016 starts things off with 96+ points from Dunnuck, followed the by the 95-point 2018, "an outstanding St-Julien that should age well over the next 20-30 years." Rounding out "The Trio" as vintages 2018-2020 are now known, we have the 96-point 2019, "a Saint-Julien of real substance and presence" per Antonio Galloni of Vinous, as well as the equally prodigious, 96-point 2020 that James Suckling calls "Full-bodied, opulent and broad-shouldered. Structured and refined."

Diving into the full scope of Saint-Pierre's recent critical accolades and accomplishments, it's easy to see that this property belongs on every Bordeaux enthusiast's radar, as they're punching with some top-tier company at prices that represent genuine value in today's collectible space.

I continue to absolutely love what this estate puts in the bottle, and it remains an incredible value given its quality. The 2020 Château Saint-Pierre (Saint-Julien) reveals a deeper ruby/purple hue to go with gorgeous aromatics of blackcurrants, smoked tobacco, gravelly earth, and chocolate. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it shows the more elegant, pure, precision style of the vintage, has perfectly integrated background oak, ripe tannins, and a great finish. This brilliant Saint Julien will benefit from 4-6 years of bottle age and have 30+years of overall longevity. Bravo.

96 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Mar 2023)

Attractive aromas of blackberries, plum skins, cloves, cardamom, dark chocolate, cedar and graphite. Some wet stones, too. Full-bodied, opulent and broad-shouldered. Structured and refined. It has a deep core of ripe black fruit covered with layers of plush and velvety tannins that linger for a long time on the palate. Really long and even. Try after 2027.

96 points, James Suckling (May 2023)

The 2020 Saint-Pierre (Saint-Julien) is loaded with scents of blackberry jam, dried herbs, graphite, incense, espresso and licorice. This powerful, tannic Saint-Julien is going to need years to soften, but it is incredibly impressive in the early going. From barrel, the 2020 was quite unctuous, but today it has grown into a wine that marries opulence with classicism in grand style. the intensity of the Cabernet Sauvignon really comes through.

95 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Feb 2023)

Rich, deep, young, vibrant, this is delicious, just at the begininning of its life, fiercely powerful tannins holding the blueberry and bilberry fruits in place, softened by cocoa dusting and liqourice on the finish. Remi di Constanzo technical director.

95 points, Jane Anson (Feb 2023)

The 2020 Saint-Pierre is deep garnet-purple in color. It has slowly emerging scents of fresh blackcurrants, black raspberries, and redcurrant jelly, plus hints of cast-iron pan, cedar chest, and menthol. The medium-bodied palate is tightly packed with black and red berry layers, plus loads of mineral sparks, framed by ripe, fine-grained tannins and seamless freshness, finishing with impressive length.

95 points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Independent (Mar 2023)

Quite reduced on the nose, a salty oyster shell and iron nuance with slightly granular tannins. Fruit is ripe and this has a deep, rich and wide structure and frame with firm tannins, a cool minty freshness and good balance. Powerful and concentrated, an opulent showing with floral notes, blackcurrant jam, dried herbs and liquorice. Impressive but will take a while to soften and fully shine.

2023 Alban Vineyards Viognier (750ml)
Viognier from Central Coast, California
B-21 Top Recommendation

"John Alban is a pioneer through and through, having spearheaded the Rhône Ranger movement and set into motion what would become some of the Central Coast's most sought-after bottlings."-Wine Advocate

Fans of cult-calber California Rhône wines need no introduction to this iconic estate, as Alban has long been the standard bearer for the pinnacle of what these varietals can achieve in California's Central Coast. A glowing critical track record a mile long points to some of the Golden State's most inimitable bottlings, and John Alban's style is the benchmark by which many other producers judge their own work. As Jeb Dunnuck remarks, "I don’t think anyone is doing Rhône varieties better."

Typically tightly allocated and somewhat elusive in the market, the Alban wines are always a hot ticket when they pop up on our radar. Leading off this trio of recent releases in limited quantity, the estate's flagship 2021 Patrina is "a terrific introduction to the wines of this incredible estate" thanks to its "a classic, seamless, incredibly impressive style" according to Dunnuck. Showcasing the estate's world-class single-vineyard Syrahs, the double 98-point 2019 Reva is a showpiece of jaw-dropping class, "breathtaking in youth but certain to develop further complexity," as described by Decanter. Finally, Alban's Midas touch with Viognier is on full display in a 93-point 2023 Central Coast bottling that offers the best of both worlds in its enchanting varietal complexity and expertly crafted balance.

Fans of the estate will once again be over the moon for the latest renditions, but anyone who's a fan of the very best offerings from California should jump at the chance to experience these singular expressions, especially at our razor-sharp, market-leading pricing.

All from the estate and brought up in a mix of tank, oak, and terra-cotta, the 2023 Viognier Central Coast has a lively, perfumed nose of ripe stone fruits, brioche, apricot, and savory flower notes with a textured style. This rich, concentrated, food-driven beauty will shine on the dinner table.

2018 Courbis Saint-Joseph Les Royes (750ml)
Syrah from Saint-Joseph, Rhône, France
B-21 Top Recommendation

"The Courbis brothers continue to keep this estate near the top of the hierarchy in the Northern Rhône, and they’ve made brilliant wines in 2017 and 2018 ... these wines never lose their sense of place and are pure, beautiful expressions of the individual parcels." - Jeb Dunnuck

As Jeb Dunnuck describes it, "2018 is a brilliant vintage" for the Northern Rhone, producing "big, rich wines [that] stay light on their feet and avoid being over the top or heavy." In other words, it offers everything fans and collectors are looking for, all displayed in abundance in this pair of thrilling 2018s from Domaine Courbis.

The vintage played perfectly into the stylistic wheelhouse of Laurent Courbis, whose wines are highly regarded for their opulent, modern character and immensely pleasurable profiles. The domaine's flagship Cornas bottlings hit long-ball homeruns in 2018, notching head-turning accolades from across the critical press, led by the sub-$60, JD98 Les Eygats. Dunnuck calls it "full-bodied, multidimensional, [and] seamless," placing it among elite company such as Chapoutier's L'Ermite and Le Pavillon Ermitage reds, and Jaboulet's Hermitage La Chapelle, but at a fraction of their three-digit prices. Not to be overlooked, the sub-$40, JD95 Les Royes St-Joseph is one of the great value propositions in the appellation, thanks to its "flawless balance, silky tannins, and remarkable purity."

Best of all, these pristinely aged library gems are just now starting to show their true colors and will shine for well beyond the next decade, so patient collectors and impatient hedonists alike will find much to love in this trio, especially at our unbeatable, market-best pricing.

95JD 93V

Another head-turning Saint Joseph from this team, the blue/black-hued 2018 Saint Joseph Les Royes has tons of obvious minerality as well as notes of smoked black and blue fruits, graphite, liquid violets, and pepper. With flawless balance, silky tannins, and remarkable purity, it's another concentrated, tight, closed wine that's going to benefit from at least 4-5 years of bottle age.

95 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Nov 2020)

Dark violet color. Displays powerful aromas of dark berries and cherry-cola, baking spices, and vanilla, with a smoky nuance that builds as the wine opens up. Fleshy and broad on the palate, offering intense black raspberry and boysenberry flavors and a touch of candied flowers. Finishes seamless and long, with an echo of florality and supple tannins that add shape and final grip.

2022 Domaine Weinbach Gewurztraminer Les Treilles du Loup (750ml)
Gewurztraminer from Alsace, France
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

"Domaine Weinbach is an iconic domaine ... The wines are amongst the most elegant and poised in Alsace. They are paradigms of varietal expression and age effortlessly." - Anne Krebiehl MW, Vinous

For four generations, Domaine Weinbach has stood as a standard bearer for Alsace's finest expressions, producing universally acclaimed wines that have few equals in the region or anywhere in France for that matter. Winemaker Eddy Leiber-Faller now helms this treasured estate along with his brother Théo, carrying on the remarkable legacy laid down by their grandmother, mother, and aunt.

We've just secured a parcel of some of their latest stunning releases, which have already garnered big press from bothWine Advocateand James Suckling's Alsace critic Stuart Pigott. Leading off, the 2022 Riesling Cuvée Colette carries unimpeachable grand cru pedigree – after all, it hails from old vines at the bottom of the Schlossberg grand cru, one of the most hallowed sites in the region that produces some its most sought-after wines. Notching 95 points from James Suckling and an additional 93 points fromWine Advocate, the 2022 Colette is a "very pure ... elegant and stunningly precise" rendition that presents all the best characteristics of the dry Riesling style in the hands of one of Alsace's most revered domaines. Likewise, the JS94 Riesling Cuvée Théo posseses "Stunning balance and finesse" according to Pigott, making it an ideal introduction to the Weinbach style.

Riesling isn't the only noble varietal that thrives in the hands of the Faller family. The 2022 Pinot Gris Caracoles boasts "superb balance" resulting in a 94-point wine that "has a gracefulness that is really delightful ... with fantastic textural complexity," while the 93-point 2022 Gewürztraminer Treilles du Loup, from a rare parcel with granitic soils, is "an extraordinarily fine and fresh wine for this grape variety" per Pigott, carrying its 10g/l of residual sweetness with grace and aplomb.

If you're already a fan of this treasured domaine, you'll want to jump on this opportunity while you can, and if you haven't yet gotten acquainted with them, now is the time – our market-best pricing is the perfect excuse to add these surefire winners from one of the wine world's greatest names to your collection.

An extraordinarily fine and fresh wine for this grape variety. What an excitingly smoky nose this youthful dry gewurz has. Very cool and silky with a delicate touch of bitterness that gives this an extra kick in the extremely long finish that’s clean and linear. 2018 Agrapart L'Avizoise Extra Brut Blanc de Blanc Grand Cru (750ml)
Sparkling from Avize, Champagne, France
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

Crafted by artisan producer and B-21 favorite Pascal Agrapart in the chalky Cote des Blancs, Champagne Agrapart has enjoyed an under the radar reputation, but with the release of these highly rated 2023 cuvees, that’s about to change. From one of the top grower-producers in the region, these selections from Agrapart offer a rare taste of meticulously crafted, terroir-driven Champagne at a remarkable value that's bound to sell out in a flash.

Now run by the fourth consecutive generation, Agrapart ranks at the top echelons of Champagne, earning a 3-star rating in the Revue de Vin du France alongside only 7 other houses, including Krug. Planted almost entirely with Chardonnay with a few small plots of Pinot Noir, the ten-hectare Agrapart Domaine comprises more than 70 small parcels predominantly in the Grand Cru villages of Avize, Cramant, Oiry, and Oger with a few Premier Cru plots on the Cote de Blancs, boasting low yielding vines averaging over 40 years of age with the oldest over 70 years. Taking the reins of his family’s historic estate in Avize over four decades ago, Pascal works the soils manually while employing organic practices, tilling with horses to ensure his soils do not get compacted (one of his parcels is worked by and named for his horse Venus). Fermenting the base wines exclusively with native yeasts which he believes is critical to expressing the terroir, Pascal employs a mix of older barrels dependent on the cuvee and longer than required bottle aging on the lees, yielding gorgeous, pure fruit impeccably balanced with chalky minerality that finishes long, each cuvee uniquely identified with a different colored plaque (i.e., the round metal disk on top of the cork).

95WA

Aged entirely in 600-liter barrels and, for the first time in the history of this cuvée, released without dosage, the 2018 Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Avizoise is nevertheless the most demonstrative vintage wine in Agrapart’s cellar. Crafted from two plots in Avize (Les Robarts and Les Gros Yeux), located just 30 meters from each other and defined by deep, clay-limestone soils, it’s more giving and demonstrative compared to Minéral. Opening in the glass to reveal scents of walnut, pastries and ripe orchard fruit, it is full-bodied, ample and layered with excellent concentration, bright acidity and a long, sapid finish. Les Gros Yeux is one of the plots Agrapart farms with horse, to avoid soil compaction. With Ambroise now in charge of this historic domaine, style remains the same, but he undeniably refines the work.

Ikikko 8yr Sherry Cask Finish Japanese Koji Whisky (750ml)
From Iki, Nagasaki, Japan
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

"For the koji initiated, it’s a true classic, and for everyone else, it’s a chance to discover a singular style of whiskey that can’t be duplicated anywhere else."

- Andrew Kitz, B-21 Spirits Buyer

The Japanese whiskey scene is a study in contrasts. On one hand, it's dominated by a few mega producers whose reputations (and prices) have reached global proportions. On the other hand, it's full of countless boutique operations that carry out their work in the most meticulous fashion to produce some of the most unique whiskeys on the market.

Arguably the hottest style in the Japanese category, koji whiskey is made with the same rice mold used in shochu and sake production to ferment the mash. In fact, the Ikinokura distillery on Iki island is primarily renowned for its shochu and sake, and Ikikko starts its journey as a traditionally made Iki island shochu (composed of two-thirds malted barley and one-third koji rice), which is then subjected to extended aging in ex-Oloroso sherry casks. The result is something that bears some familiar hallmarks of a hand-crafted Scotch or bourbon, but only enough to broaden its prospective audience of whiskey lovers. As B-21 spirits buyer Andrew Kitz notes, "for bourbon or Scotch fans looking to branch out, the Ikikko 8 Year is your perfect bridge introduction to this one-of-a-kind spirit." For experienced fans of Japanese whiskey, it's still all koji at heart, a beautiful expression of class and character that speaks clearly of its traditional origins, all for a razor-sharp, market-best price.

93AK 92WHA

And now for the something completely different... yet familiar. The koji whiskey category is still somewhat a mystery to many, but for bourbon or Scotch fans looking to branch out, the Ikikko 8 Year is your perfect bridge introduction to this one-of-a-kind spirit. Pouring a pale, burnished gold color, it leads with a nose that will stand out to any fan of elegant, unpeated Speyside malt. Made from two-thirds malted barley, it shows this character in a charming interplay with the other one-third rice component. Sweet cereal, gingersnap cookie, and pumpernickel aromas lend it woodsy complexity at the outset, with some candied citrus in the background. The palate boasts an engaging textural backbone that will resonate with bourbon lovers, with a flavor profile that’s hard to pin down at first, offering up anything from red apple and citrus pith to new leather and cardamom, all riding a bright, lively mouthfeel. With time, the aromatics take on more elegant tones like sesame seed, subtle white flowers, and white chocolate. The palate follows suit now with white pepper, that same white chocolate character from the nose, and a surprisingly fresh, cool mint touch on the finish. For the koji initiated, it’s a true classic, and for everyone else, it’s a chance to discover a singular style of whiskey that can’t be duplicated anywhere else.

93 points, Andrew Kitz, B-21 Spirits Buyer (Mar 2025)

Iki Island in Japan’s Tsushima Straits is renowned for its shochu, and this whisky is made using koji mold to ferment the rice and barley. Light aromas of wood spice, lemon meringue pie, citrus peel, new baseballs, and floral blossoms. It’s no pushover on the palate, however, with honeyed nectarine and canned peaches, red apple, caramel, vanilla essence, cardamom, and pepper, then toffee, citrus, dried fruit, egg custard, and cocoa powder.

"The entire collection is a light-footed but intensely aromatic dream." - Anne Krebeihl MW, Vinous

When it comes to all-time benchmark Mosel Riesling, Joh. Jos. Prum sets the bar, vintage after vintage. The venerable Graacher Himmelreich and Wehlener Sonnenuhr vineyards form the backbone of the estate, and the 2023 vintage has produced another round of simply exquisite expressions from these sites. Wine Advocate's Stephan Reinhardt declares, "Overall, the wines of the 2023 vintage are classic in style: pure, clear, filigreed and fresh, with fine fruit ripeness, weightless elegance and stimulating crystalline acidity." We couldn't have summed it up any better.

With smashing critical accolades fromVinous, Wine Advocate, and James Suckling's Riesling critic Stuart Pigott, the 2023s from winemaker Katherina Prum are emblematic of the singular quality and pedigree that defines this iconic Mosel estate. At every tier, of the Pradikat hierarchy, these are collectible showstoppers that will thrill any serious fan and stand for decades in any cellar next to the world's most long-lived collectible white wines.

97JS 96V 95WA

The sensuous curves of Art Nouveau design and joyful flourishes of rococo both give an idea of what Mosel riesling elegance means, but in a masterpiece like this it takes on a totally distinctive feeling unlike anything else on Planet Wine. The white peach fruit, white flower aromas and slatey minerality all tingle on your palate, then flicker on and on in a totally fascinating manner in the nearly endless finish. The touch of sweetness is already beautifully integrated, although the wine just began a decades-long life. Drink or hold.

97 points, Stuart Pigott, James Suckling (Oct 2024)

The 2023 Riesling Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese opens with a serene, stony, salty slaty breeze. The palate is exquisitely fine and very bright, luminous even, soaring upward as it reaches down into the slate, embodying the total elegance of the site. Slenderness and serenity are exemplary.

The 2023 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese is concentrated and very intense on the fruit-driven, deep and spicy nose. The wine is very elegant and refined on the dense and seriously structured, salivating palate that is a promise for the future and endlessly salty in the present. 8% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine from AP 08 24 in January 2025.

Today's offer features a quartet of 2022s that have already found great favor among our long-time fans and collectors of Austria's best, and we just negotiated a new parcel at must-see pricing that puts them among the sharpest buys in the market. Leading the charge, the 2022 Klaus Riesling is once again the crown-jewel of the range, with a potential 99 points from Peter Moser, Austria's leading wine critic at the renowned Falstaff Magazine, and 98 points from James Suckling's Austria critic Claire Nesbitt, who writes, "What a stunning example of cool climate riesling ... The 2022 Riesling Achleiten is likewise a sterling example of hallmark Prager class, with 96-98 points from Moser for its "very enjoyable style with length and ageing potential." No less stupendous are the Grüner Veltliners, as seen most clearly in the 97-point Achleiten Smaragd and the flirts-with-perfection Wachstum Bodenstein Smaragd.

Light yellow-green, silver reflections. Fine yellow tropical fruit, candied tangerine zest and honey blossom. Substantial, elegant, salty at the core, taut, white fruit, very racy, limes on the finish, seems immensely animating and very long lasting, a lively food companion, very precise, certain ageing potential.

97-99 points, Peter Moser, Falstaff (Jul 2023)

What a stunning example of cool climate riesling. It’s full-bodied and deep, but so cool and delicate, packing in sleek layers of honeysuckle, apricots, lemons and grapefruit married to thyme and crushed rock. So long and seamless, with tension and focus that just keeps going. Sustainable. Try from 2025.

The 2009 Haut-Brion is deep garnet colored and slightly closed and shy to begin, slowly unfurling to reveal sensuous notions of warm blackberries, plum preserves, mulberries and blackcurrant cordial with touches of star anise, mocha and damp soil. Full-bodied, taut and tightly wound in the mouth, the palate delivers mouth-coating black fruit and mineral layers with a very firm frame of ripe, grainy tannins, finishing long and earthy. This needs time!

100 points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate (Mar 2019)

Extravagant and exotic, but still lively, this is a super-concentrated and elegant wine that's already breathtaking, yet has enormous aging potential. Plenty of wet earth and mushroom character alongside the cassis and blackberry aromas. Super-long, perfectly balanced finish. Drink or hold. (Horizontal Tasting, London, 2019)

100 points, James Suckling (Oct 2019)

This enormous young wine is among the most backward of the vintage at this early stage, with iron-clad grip holding the broad, deep core of blackberry, cassis and roasted fig notes in check for now. The finish is a torrent of dense, almost compressed layers of tobacco leaf, hot paving stone, singed bay leaf and tar that will take at least a decade to massage together fully. This one is for the kids born in 2009. Best from 2020 through 2040. 10,500 cases made.

I finished my trip through Bordeaux with the 2020 Château Haut-Brion, and it was certainly a fitting cap to the trip. Revealing a deep ruby/plum hue, the 2020 exhibits extraordinary aromatics of ripe black fruits, scorched earth, cold fireplace, and acacia flowers. An absolute blockbuster on the palate, this structured, full-bodied, massively concentrated Pessac builds incrementally, with ultra-fine tannins, a deep, layered mid-palate, and a great, great finish. Richer and more concentrated than both the 2018 and 2019 (there are some similarities to 2010), this is a legend in the making. The blend is 42.8% Merlot, 39.7% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the balance Cabernet Franc, all of which will spend 15-18 months in 77% new French oak. Hide bottles for a decade, and it should evolve for 50-75 years.

100 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Mar 2023)

This is a superb Haut-Brion with incredible tannins that are wonderfully fine-grained. It’s really powerful. This is very primary with so much grape-generated tannin structure. Very, very long, going on for minutes. Seductive and friendly at the start and then takes you on at the finish with so much structure. Wine of the vintage?

100 points, James Suckling (Jun 2021)

The 2020 Haut Brion is a blend of 42.8% Merlot, 39.7% Cabernet Sauvignon and 17.5% Cabernet Franc, with a pH of 3.78. Deep garnet-purple in color, it opens with profound blackcurrant cordial, baked plums, and boysenberry preserves notes, leading to an undercurrent of graphite, iron ore, black truffles, and wood smoke, plus a hint of cardamom. The full-bodied palate is tightly knit with black fruit and mineral layers, supported by a rock-solid backbone of grainy tannins and seamless acidity, finishing long and savory.

99 points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Independent (Mar 2023)

The 2020 Haut-Brion is more aromatically demonstrative than La Mission Haut-Brion, bursting with aromas of blackberries and raspberries mingled with licorice, cigar wrapper, pencil shavings and nicely integrated new oak. Full-bodied, ample and fleshy, it's rich and layered, with an enveloping core of fruit that's girdled by plenty of sweet, powdery tannin. Despite checking in at a similarly lofty alcoholic degree to the 2019, its more granular tannic profile tempers the vintage's sweetness of fruit and lends the wine a more classically proportioned, and more classically structured, profile.

2018 Agrapart Mineral Extra Brut Blanc de Blanc Grand Cru (750ml)
Sparkling from Avize, Champagne, France

94WA

The 2018 Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Minéral, disgorged in August 2024 with three grams per liter dosage, introduces the range of vintage wines. Defined by poor soils with just about 50 centimeters of topsoil, it comes from two chalk-based, old-vine parcels: Le Champ Bouton in Avize (vinified in tank) and Les Bionnes in Cramant (vinified in an old 600-liter barrel). “In 2017, we lost about 50% to 60% due to frost, then in 2018 we harvested three times the volume of 2017,” reveals Ambroise Agrapart, who is now making the wines, though his father is still very much present. More generously structured compared to the 2016 yet more precise than the 2017, it wafts from the glass with notes of tangerine zest, green apple and dried white flowers. Nakedly chalky with electric-like acidity, it maintains its reputation as the most tensile wine in the range, capturing the freshness much better than many other wines of this vintage.

Pure perfection and one of truly legendary wines out there, the 2010 is 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, and the balance Cabernet Franc that hit a whopping 14.6% natural alcohol, with a healthy pH of 3.7. This deep rich, opulent beauty is just now at the early stages of its prime drink window and has an incredible array of blackcurrants, chocolate, truffly earth, graphite, and hints of tobacco. A massive wine in every sense, it still somehow stays weightless and graceful, with silky, building tannins, flawless balance, and just everything in the right place. It needs an hour or two in a decanter if drinking any time soon, and it's going to have upwards of 75-100 years of ultimate longevity.

100 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Nov 2021)

Deep garnet in color, the 2010 Haut-Brion charges out of the gate with exuberant notes of crème de cassis, blueberry pie and baked plums followed by nuances of dark chocolate, licorice and cloves. Full-bodied, the palate has lots of subtle earth and mineral accents with a firm, finely grained texture and great freshness lifting the long finish.

Sappy, tongue-coating pastis, blackberry coulis and loganberry fruit starts this huge wine off, followed by a parade of licorice snap, violet, tar, black tea, roasted alder, wood spice and steeped black cherry fruit notes. A beam of pure cassis drives through this, and the finish pulls everything together with a mouthwatering brambly edge that should soften slowly over time. "To my palate, some of the cuvées ... number among the finest values that can be found in French wine, and I warmly recommend any readers who haven't yet acquainted themselves with this estate to try a few bottles." - William Kelley, Wine Advocate

Domaine du Vissoux, now under the direction of the extremely talented Jean-Etienne Chermette, continues to set the bar in Fleurie. From some of the appellation's choicest parcels, these are always among the most admired expressions, particularly in the excellent 2022 vintage. Chermette once again hit high marks across the board with the notoriously stingy John Gilman of View From the Cellar.

The 94-point Fleurie Les Garants, from a parcel that used to be part of the Moulin-à-Vent cru, "is first class Fleurie that belies its old Moulin-à-Vent classification ... Fine, fine juice!" Speaking of Moulin-à-Vent, the 2022 Les Trois Roches, sourced from three old-vine plots, is "a brilliant young wine ... a proper bottle of Moulin-à-Vent [that] deserves some hibernation time in the cellar." Finally, Chermette's Brouilly is a stalwart example of a cru that doesn't quite carry the cachet of the more famous crus, but nonetheless is a source of superb wines of serious character. Gilman notes the 93-point 2022 Pierreux is "a gorgeous example of this fine vintage ... bright, full-bodied, pure and nicely soil-driven, with a beautiful core of fruit, moderate, buried tannins, lovely focus and grip and a long, complex and impeccably balanced finish."

Chermette's wines underscore the true brilliance of artisan cru Beaujolais – stunning terroir representation, superb cellar potential, and razor-sharp pricing that makes it easy to collect by the case.

94JG

The Chermette family’s Moulin-à-Vent “les Trois Roches” is a brilliant young wine in 2022. As I have mentioned before, the wine is made from a blend of fruit from three different lieux à dits in the appellation of Moulin-à-Vent: les Rochegrès, la Roche Noire and la Rochelle. The 2022 version offers up a pure and very deep bouquet of black cherries, sweet black currants, bonfire, spit-roasted gamebird, coffee bean, a complex base of granitic minerality, just a whisper of fresh thyme and a floral topnote redolent of violets and peonies. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and seamlessly balanced, with a sappy core of black fruit, beautiful soil signature and grip, ripe, fine-grained tannins and superb focus on the long and complex finish. This is a proper bottle of Moulin-à-Vent and deserves some hibernation time in the cellar before broaching.

This great Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese shows exactly the combination of white flower and white peach aromas with silky succulence and extraordinary freshness that made these wines legendary. There’s a healthy amount of unfermented grape sweetness, but the interplay of this with the myriad other components is so complex and fascinating. Super-graceful finish that feels like stroking satin. Drinkable now, but best from 2026.

97 points, Stuart Pigott, James Suckling (Oct 2024)

Intense tropical fruit aromas such as fully ripe mangoes but also baby pineapples open the 2023 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese that reveals a savory slate spice. On the palate, this is a rich yet savory and persistently saline, juicy and structured Auslese with a long and still mouth-filling finish. 8% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine from AP 12 24 in January 2025.

96 points, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate (Jan 2025)

The 2023 Riesling Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese, made with virtually no botrytis from ripe grapes, offers equal notes of grapefruit peel, juicy peach and lemon. The extreme finesse of the Prüm style meets the site's elegance, with stony lemon running like a central vein through the linear, elongated body. Such finesse, lightness and filigree nature, yet so much depth. Simply astonishing and a paradigm of site and style.

2018 Giodo Brunello di Montalcino (1.5L)
Sangiovese from Montalcino, Tuscany, Italy
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

Anyone who describes himself as a “Sangiovesista” is decidedly serious about Tuscany’s revered grape, but when that Sangiovese devotee is renowned enologist Carlo Ferrini, be assured there is some equally serious Brunello di Montalcino backing it up. From the secluded hillside vineyard producing “Montalcino’s best kept secret” according to the Wine Spectator’s Robert Camuto, the sensational Giodo Brunello di Montalcino offers true Sangiovese perfection from an outstanding vintage, its aromatic ripe, earthy fruit elegantly balancing mouthwatering acidity and silky-smooth, polished tannins, already delivering enjoyment today and promising to age beautifully for a decade or more.

Bordered by mature trees and ancient cypress with stunning views of the towering Monte Amiata, the nearly hidden Podere Giodo estate spans 5.5 hectares of organically farmed vineyards at 300 to 400 meters above sea level, its newly built contemporary stone buildings and state of the art winery seamlessly blending into the garden-like hillside setting. Boasting an A-list of customers in the region including Barone Ricasoli, Fonterutoli, Talenti and Romitorio, winemaker Carlo Ferrini quietly started his personal Montalcino project in 2002, clearing 2.5 hectares of mostly oak forest on mineral-rich slopes and planting it with specially selected, low yielding Sangiovese clones for the Brunello, its optimal southeast exposure protecting the vines from the intense afternoon sun. Produced only in top vintages like 2016, declared one of Brunello’s “greatest ever” by James Suckling, Ferrini practices green harvesting to further reduce yields, dropping about 40% of his crop in August and hand harvesting the first selection for the Brunello in September. Utilizing short macerations to minimize extraction and fermenting in stainless and concrete with native wild yeasts, the sophisticated Podere Giodo Brunello was aged for 30 months in large 500 and 700 liter oak casks, followed by additional time in concrete vats and years in bottle, yielding an exquisite, brightly focused Brunello described as “a career defining wine” by the Wine Advocate’s Monica Larner, a remarkable feat considering Ferrini’s 30 plus year legacy as one of Tuscany’s greatest consulting winemakers.

Initially trying to keep Podere Giodo under the radar so as to not compete with his high-profile clients, perfection is simply hard to keep under wraps, the meticulously crafted Giodo Brunello di Montalcino reflecting Carlo Ferrini’s uncompromising devotion to “celebrating the pleasures of Sangiovese” according to Inside Bordeaux’s Jane Anson and now with increased demand, requiring quick action for collectors to secure their cellar-ready stash.

This wine was tasted in a preview capacity as it won't hit the market until the beginning of next year. Tasted at the Giodo winery in one of the most remote and beautiful spots in the appellation surrounded by forests and wide open panoramas, the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino gives us a promising taste of what we can expect from this warm vintage. The wine delivers ripe, but delicate aromas of cassis and dark cherry with shades of lilac, violet and crushed limestone. The tannins are present and well managed. Carlo Ferrini's Brunello promises a long aging trajectory.

97 points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate (Issue # 261 - Jun 2022)

Black-cherry, violet, lavender and orange-peel aromas follow through to a medium to full body with ultra-fine tannins that run the length of the wine. Such focus and brightness. Agile and weightless at the end. Not the biggest Giodo, but pretty and precise. Drinkable now, but wait for two or three years. Try after 2024.

The 2022 Riesling Achleiten is likewise a sterling example of hallmark Prager class, with 96-98 points from Moser for its "very enjoyable style with length and ageing potential." Light greenish yellow, silver reflections. Fine floral nuances, white peach, a hint of lime, inviting bouquet. Taut, tight-knit, white apple, fine, vibrant acidity, lively and mineral, soft notes of baby pineapple on the finish, very enjoyable style with length and ageing potential.

96-98 points, Peter Moser, Falstaff (Jul 2023)

This is youthful and elegant but with a subtle power, for now showing delicate aromas of white peach, jasmine, neroli and bergamot. Medium- to full-bodied, with beautiful freshness and a long, extremely focused mineral finish. Sustainable. Try after 2024.

The 2019 Syrah Lorraine is ultra-classic and is about as textbook an example of this cuvée as I can recall. Black raspberries, cassis, spring flowers, and baking spices all flow to a full-bodied, round, velvety textured, utterly seamless Syrah with ripe tannins, a great mid-palate, and a gorgeous finish that keeps you coming back to the glass. It's impossible to resist today (and I see no need to delay gratification), yet it will continue to deliver the goods any time over the coming 20-25 years.

NV Agrapart Experience 19 Brut Nature Blanc de Blanc Grand Cru (750ml)

92WA

The NV Brut Nature Blanc de Blancs Exp. 19, the most unusual wine in Agrapart’s lineup, is crafted without the addition of external yeasts and sugar and without dosage. Ambroise adds indigenous yeasts and pressed grape juice (not fermented) from the following harvest (2020, in the case of Exp. 19) to the 2019 vintage base wine to provide the equivalent of 24 grams per liter of sugar for prise de mousse, to drive the secondary fermentation in bottle. Therefore, Exp. is not vintage-dated. With a lower-than-average level of alcohol (around 11.5%) but trenchant acidity, it’s a wine with incisive personality, offering up scents of ripe apple, pear, vanilla, and toasted nuts. Expressive and textural, complemented by pinpoint mousse, it does not have the same cut and completeness as the rest of the wines, making it harder to justify the choice when there are such superb wines as Minéral, Avizoise and Vénus in the range. It’s also a cuvée that, in my experience, ages less gracefully.

Aromas of cedar, earth, tree bark, fruit tea, black tea and cherries. Then it turns to fresh and dried flowers. Medium to full body as it grows on the palate with superb fine tannins that run the length of the wine. It’s structured and powerful with great length. The acid, tannin balance is incredible. Very clear and transparent. What a wine. Drinkable but better in three or four years.

Made from 100% Sangiovese, the 2019 Brunello di Montalcino is medium garnet-purple in color. "The team [at Lingua Franca] led by winemaker Thomas Savre is producing a portfolio of wines that show the power and complexity possible to obtain in Oregon." - Eric Guido,Vinous

Renowned for crafting top-scoring Burgundy for his family’s Côte-de-Beaune estate, master winemaker Dominique Lafon worked as a consultant to Oregon’s Evening Land Vineyards before collaborating with master sommelier and Evening Land general manager Larry Stone to co-found Lingua Franca in Willamette Valley’s Eola-Amity Hills in 2015. Lafon's expertise at crafting exceptional Burgundy was credited with driving Evening Land’s rising reputation early on. Purchasing the 140-acre Janzen Farm, a prime parcel situated next to Evening Land’s Seven Springs site and adjacent to Domaine Serene’s Jerusalem Hill Vineyard, Stone and Lafon then worked with renowned Willamette viticulturist Mimi Casteel to determine the precise mix of clones to plant based on the site’s varied soils, utilizing organic and biodynamic viticulture throughout the estate’s 66-acre vineyard and hiring Evening Land’s former assistant winemaker and Lafon protege Thomas Savre to craft its vineyard-driven wines. Boasting experience at legendary Burgundy estates including Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, Domaine Dujac, and Maison Nicolas Potel, Savre employs a transparent, minimal-intervention approach in the cellar, resulting in wines that now boast an impressive track record of world-class quality and glowing acclaim from the critical press. The 2022 vintage continues this upward trajectory in spades, showing why Lingua Franca remains one of Oregon's most exciting producers.

The medium yellow/straw-colored 2022 Chardonnay Estate has a forward feel in the glass, with a great nose offering notes of bright flinty reduction, green apples, lime zest, and white flowers. Medium-bodied and long on the palate, it has persistent drive, with a pure savory feel and a graceful saline finish with a note of lime pith. It will drink well over the next 10 years.

Crushed stones and flint combine with freshly sliced pear, ginger and hints of sweet mint as the 2022 Chardonnay Estate blossoms in the glass. Representing the upper echelon in the Bordeaux hierarchy, these top scoring vintages from two iconic First Growth estates are guaranteed not to disappoint, whether it’s the “complexity, finesse and longevity” of Chateau Lafite Rothschild according to Inside Bordeaux’s Jane Anson or the signature “explosive depth” and “breathtaking purity of flavor” of Chateau Haut-Brion according to Vinous critic Antonio Galloni, another terrific opportunity to fill in the cellar with 100 pt. gems or treat yourself to the one of a kind pleasures that only First Growth Bordeaux can deliver in every vintage at best on the market pricing.

Set among the contemporary suburbs of the city of Bordeaux, Chateau Haut-Brion’s vineyards for the red Grand Vin span 50 hectares in Pessac-Leognan, planted almost evenly with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with small parcels of Cab Franc and Petit Verdot in a complex terroir ranging from limestone to sand to 18-meter-deep gravels interspersed with deep clay, the Grand Vin aged in mostly new French oak barrels for 22 months. Looking at the Grand Vin, the 2020 Château Lafite-Rothschild is a sensational effort checking in as 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot that hit 12.8% natural alcohol and a pH of 3.94. As Lafite as Lafite gets, this ultra-classic reveals a dense ruby/plum hue as well as a tight, yet layered bouquet of ripe blackcurrants, smoked tobacco, freshly sharpened pencils, graphite, and subtle spice. Flawlessly balanced, deep, concentrated, and layered, it has an incredible mid-palate, building, perfect tannins, and a finish that leaves you salivating. Refined, elegant, and perfection are the buzz words here. Unfortunately, it's not for the instant gratification crowd, and I wouldn't be surprised to see this require 15 years to hit the early stages of its prime drinking window. It will probably hit its 100th birthday in fine form.

100 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Mar 2023)

Structured, dense and with great concentration, this wine is magnificent. Its black fruits and density indicate the power of the wine and its longevity. At the same time, the wine has the elegance that is always associated with this estate. Drink from 2028.

100 points, Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast (Apr 2023)

Amazing aromas here with tobacco, crushed stone, cigar box, currants, tar, and lead pencil, as well as spices, iron, and dried ginger. Medium- to full-bodied, with a density and tightness. Very compact and complex. Racy. Delicacy with strength. Orange peel undertones. A wine to contemplate. You must understand it to understand the great Lafites of the past and those of the future. Only 12.8% alcohol. 92% cabernet sauvignon, 7% merlot and 1% petit verdot. Best after 2030, but drink it if you have the chance taste it.

100 points, James Suckling (May 2023)

An utterly brilliant Lafite - a sense of understated charm, it’s certainly not shouting but delivers a bright, sharp, joyous sensation. Almost subtle in its presentation with delicacy and refinement on show yet such clear power underneath. An incredible aromatic display with ripe black fruits, pepper, liquorice and crushed stones - calm, controlled and contained with beautiful tannin integration and a chalky, salinity on the finish. Supremely complete with mass appeal.

99 points, Georgina Hindle, Decanter (Jan 2023)

The 2020 Lafite-Rothschild, which contains the highest proportion of Merlot since the 2016, hit the bull's eye from barrel. Revisiting the wine in the bottle since July, it still bursts from the glass with copious blackberries, touches of blueberry and juniper, pencil lead and a hint of crushed stone. Wonderful delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with finely-chiseled tannins, quite linear and "correct" - a quintessential Lafite-Rothschild in many ways. It gently builds in the mouth while keeping a restraint on things, finishing with fine sapidity yet a little more juiciness than you would have found a decade or two earlier. This has the potential to evolve beautifully over several decades.

98 points, Neal Martin, Vinous (Feb 2023)

The 2020 Lafite Rothschild is a blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot, with a pH of 3.94. Deep garnet-purple in color, it slowly unfurls to offer very pure, intense scents of crushed blackcurrants, fresh plums, and blackberries, plus suggestions of violets, cinnamon stick, fertile loam, and tapenade with a touch of tar. The light-bodied palate is very tightly knit with many black fruit, mineral, and fragrant earth layers and a firm backbone of grainy tannins, finishing long and earthy. A bright, bright, shiny Lafite! It needs a good 12-15 years!

Jean-Étienne Chermette’s 2022 Brouilly “les Pierreux” is a gorgeous example of this fine vintage. The bouquet is deep, complex, transparent and nicely sappy at the same time, hopping from the glass in a lovely blend of red plums, cherries, gamebird, a touch of sweet cranberry, a gorgeous base of soil (that will turn autumnal in personality pretty briskly), a dollop of fresh thyme and a lovely topnote of violets. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, pure and nicely soil-driven, with a beautiful core of fruit, moderate, buried tannins, lovely focus and grip and a long, complex and impeccably balanced finish. This is certainly tasty out of the blocks, but it has the good underlying structure of the vintage and will be even better three to five years down the road.

Much tighter, focused, and structured, the 2019 Syrah Seymour's has gorgeous deep black fruits as well as classic iodine, iron, ground pepper, and bloody, meaty nuances. Rich, full-bodied, and powerful, it needs 4-5 years of bottle age but will be just about immortal. It's clearly the most concentrated, structured, inward wine in 2019 and is another testament to the genius of John Alban.

98+ points, Jeb Dunnuck (Aug 2023)

I tasted the 2019 Syrah Seymour's Vineyard on July 8, shortly after its bottling in June. It has pure aromas of blueberries, blackcurrant, violet and dark earth with nuances of fresh mint leaves, salami, licorice, garrigue and cracked pepper. Full-bodied yet light on its feet, the palate features restrained, graphite-laced fruit at this early stage. It has loads of powerful, rounded tannins and seamless freshness and is still coiled on the finish. It's a gorgeous Syrah that deserves another five years in bottle to unwind. This will be released in the spring of 2024.

This dry pinot gris has a wonderfully ripe melon nose with a thread of floral honey running through it, but no hint of the opulence that’s so often associated with those aromas in Alsace. In fact, the wine has a gracefulness that is really delightful. Long finish with fantastic textural complexity. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drink or hold.

When it comes to all-time benchmark Mosel Riesling, Joh. Jos. Prum sets the bar, vintage after vintage. Super elegant and super filigreed, with ravishing aromas of honeysuckle, white peaches and Asian pears, this is a very sophisticated and polished wine for this category. Incredibly refreshing, but also incredibly silky on the light-bodied palate. Then comes the extremely long and precise finish in which floral and wet-stone elements are almost perfectly interwoven. Drink or hold.

96 points, Stuart Pigott, James Suckling (Oct 2024)

The 2023 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett is deep, pure, fresh and slatey on the precise, coolish and also floral nose. Mouth-filling, rich and dense on the palate, this is a round and juicy, very mineral, stimulating, savory and saline wine with fine, stimulating grip and an aromatic, well-structured and relatively dry finish. This is excellent and stylish in its terroir expression. 8.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in January 2025.

94 points, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate (Jan 2025)

The 2023 Riesling Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett opens with some reduction, but the yeastiness blends with lemon. The palate is sleek and contoured, vividly fine, with cool, salty slate. Its blue, cool aspect shines with yellow lemon, creating a gorgeous complementary accord that accentuates absolute elegance.

2021 Dominio de Atauta Parada de Atauta (750ml)

"The perfumed, floral and aromatic 2021 Parada de Atauta combines ripeness with freshness and elegance." - Luis Gutierrez,Wine Advocate

An estate on the rise in Ribera del Duero, Dominio de Atauta has emerged as one of the region's great insider's secrets, with several astute critics recognizing the undeniable quality and character of these wines crafted from high-elevation, old vines planted in very poor soil. The Soria sub-zone adds an element of finesse to Atauta's wines, even as the signature intensity of Ribera is on full display. An "excellent opportunity to sample what this winery can do," the Parada de Atauta is an overachieving stunner that punches well above its weight class. As Wine Advocate's Luis Gutierrez notes, "It's not a shy wine ... but keeps the poise and harmony, with a round and tender palate, very fine tannins and purity of flavors." Parada is sourced from a handful of plots ranging in age from 90 to 120 years on sandy terroir, giving it that poise and harmony mentioned above, while a lighter oak regime (by Ribero standards) provides just the right contours to bring everything together in one supremely polished, enticing package. It's somewhat surprising that Atauta doesn't have a bigger market footprint in the U.S., but we're also proud to showcase a Spanish insider's top find at a price that can't be beat.

The perfumed, floral and aromatic 2021 Parada de Atauta combines ripeness with freshness and elegance. It's not a shy wine at 15% alcohol but keeps the poise and harmony, with a round and tender palate, very fine tannins and purity of flavors. It was bottled after 12 months in French oak barrels, 20% of them new, and a further five months in concrete. 64,398 bottles and 2,767 magnums produced. It was bottled in September 2023.

93 points, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate (Jun 2024)

Lots of dark brambleberries, Morello cherries, violets, chocolate and blackberries. Juicy and nicely chewy on the palate, with a full body and a tight-grained finish. From the old vines of Atauta and Ines. Peppery and pretty long. Better in one more year.

100WA 100JS 98V 98WS

One of the greatest wines produced in Bordeaux this year is the 2019 Lafite Rothschild, an impeccably balanced classic of immense charm and grace. Wafting from the glass with arresting aromas of cassis, blackberries and cherries mingled with violets, cigar box and warm spices, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and seamless, its velvety attack segueing into a layered, concentrated mid-palate framed by exquisitely powdery tannins and ripe acids, and concluding with a long, perfumed finish. This rivals the 2010 and 2016 as the greatest Lafite of the decade, and of those three vintages, it's clearly the most sensual and demonstrative out of the gates. The blend contains fully 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and attained a modest 13.4% alcohol.

100 points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate (Apr 2022)

So much sweet tobacco, Spanish cedar, dried flowers, dark mushrooms and roses. Really aromatic. This is so polished and very powerful, yet ethereal and refined at the same time. The finish goes on for minutes. Tight and harmonious. You want to drink it! So balanced, yet it will age beautifully. It will be this good forever. 94% cabernet sauvignon, 5% merlot and 1% petit verdot. Better after 2031.

100 points, James Suckling (Feb 2022)

The 2019 Lafite-Rothschild is a mesmerizing wine that shows how compelling the vintage is on the Left Bank. Elegant, creamy and exquisitely layered, the 2019 Lafite conquers all the senses. There is tremendous density and power that belies the 12.8% alcohol, but then again, that can be the magic of Bordeaux. Classic Lafite red plum fruit, spice, cedar, licorice and rose petal linger on the striking, persistent finish.

98 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Feb 2022)

A very energetic wine, with wild loganberry, mulberry and black currant fruit flavors that bristle with mouthwatering bay leaf, licorice root and savory notes. The finish is tight now, with charcoal shadings and a smoldering cast iron note, but there's additional black tea, incense and floral hints for contrast. Dense and driven, with more than enough elements to match its energy, meaning this can cruise in the cellar for a long time. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2026 through 2045.
