2019 Speri Amarone della Valpolicella Classico (750ml)
Corvina from Valpolicella, Veneto, Italy
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

Amarone della Valpolicella may be one of the most misunderstood and underappreciated categories in fine wine, but among the handful of producers setting the standard, Speri is undoubtedly among the elite names shining a spotlight on these bona fide collectible gems. Their signature estate style is somewhat a departure from the powerhouse Amarone profile that most wine drinkers are familiar with, instead focusing on restrained elegance and nuance.

"This is wonderfully lifted and graceful in style, dense yet energetic with silken textures ..." - Eric Guido, Vinous

The single-vineyard, 96-point 2019 Sant'Urbano is a showpiece example of precision viticulture and winemaking, resulting in "a sophisticated Amarone" full of dynamic complexity while remaining eminently approachable for a broad audience. Like all great Amarone, however, it's undoubtedly built for the cellar. As Eric Guido of Vinous notes, "The 2019 is full of potential - bury it deep." Delivering serious, cellar-worhy bang for the buck, it's an undeniably smart buy for avid collectors of Italy's best.

96V

A compelling bouquet of dusty dried violets, fresh coffee grounds, cocoa powder and dried black cherries makes the 2019 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Sant'Urbano impossible to ignore. This is wonderfully lifted and graceful in style, dense yet energetic with silken textures and polished red berry fruits that slowly saturate the palate. The 2019 youthfully folds in upon itself, leaving a bitter tinge of spice, dark chocolate and fine-grained tannins. The balance here is something to behold. The 2019 is full of potential—bury it deep.

Nebbiolo from Barbaresco, Piedmont, Italy

"The 2021s are marvelously complete wines that offer a captivating mix of energy, structure, depth and plenty of site character." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

To paraphrase Mark Twain's infamous quip about good whiskey, too much great wine is not enough, and we still can't get enough of Barbaresco's epic 2021 vintage. Ever since these wines began to hit the market, they've delivered on the early praise that was heaped on them by critics across the board. There's obviously no shortage of spectacular buys in this vintage, but that breadth of choice can often make selection daunting, so we've hand-picked some of our absolute favorites get you going in this reference-point campaign.

Massolino shines with a pair of superb offerings in their "super-classic" village bottling and their triple 95-point Albesani single cru. Produttori's 2021 village bottling is once again one of the steals of the vintage. With 95+ points from Wine Advocate, it's a "a classical expression of Nebbiolo that gives us good reason to be excited for the upcoming 2021 Barbaresco Riservas."

Next up, the 2021 Fontanabianca Bordini is a no-brainer, razor-sharp buy for Piedmont collectors looking to maximize their collectible bang for the buck, a "stunning ,,, utterly delicious" offering with glowing accolades from several critics, led by Kerin O'Keefe's 96 points and 95 points from Larner. Finally, don't miss the single-cru sleeper stars from Albino Rocca and Giuseppe Cortese. "This vivid, sculpted Barbaresco is hugely promising," writes Galloni in his 95-point review of Rocca's 2021 Ronchi. He likewise praises Cortese's 2021 rendition of the iconic Rabaja cru as "complex, dynamic and youthfully austere—in other words, it's classic Rabajà ... a drop-dead gorgeous beauty."

No matter which way you turn, it seems Barbaresco's 2021 vintage is knocking it out of the park, and our market-leading pricing on these fan favorites and collectible hits provides you ample opportunity to stock the cellar full for the next couple of decades.

Balsamic aromas and flavors of eucalyptus and tomato leaf are matched to a core of ripe cherry, plum and earth. Though lean and austere now, this compact red offers a core of fruit and, in the end, nice equilibrium and impressive length. Best from 2029 through 2047. 1,420 cases made, 300 cases imported.

95 points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator (Aug 2025)

Forest floor, new leather, dark spice and sun-warmed hay mingle with botanical herb on the impressive 2021 Rabajà from Giuseppe Cortese. It's full-bodied and savory, with flavors of juicy Morello cherry, raspberry, star anise and white pepper that before an almost salty mineral finish. A backbone of firm, refined tannins provides support while fresh acidity keeps it balanced and energized.

96 points, Kerin O'Keefe (Apr 2024)

The 2021 Barbaresco Rabajà is complex, dynamic and youthfully austere—in other words, it's classic Rabajà. Dark-toned fruit, menthol, licorice, spice, gravel, incense, tobacco and dried herbs fill out the layers. Medium in body and complex, with myriad shades of expression, the 2021 is a drop-dead gorgeous beauty. Readers can also expect a Riserva edition.

95 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Oct 2024)

A deeper ruby/red color, the 2021 Barbaresco Rabaja has all the components of the entry wine amplified further, with notes of medicinal herbs, turned soil, sappy herbs, dried cherries, and orange peel. Medium-bodied, it offers good length, balance, and persistence on the palate. It’s angular but has ripe tannins, good freshness, and a persistent, savory finish with notes of dark rocky earth. This is a very well-done effort from Giuseppe Cortese.

94 points, Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck (May 2024)

A charming, fruits-and-flowers aroma and the rather broad and velvety palate make this one enjoyable already. Rose petals, orange zest, red cherries and a hint of tart cherry provide plenty of pleasure, while relatively soft tannins keep it smooth. Best through to 2030.

2023 Kelley Fox Liminal Maresh Vineyard Pinot Noir (750ml)
Pinot Noir from Dundee Hills, Oregon
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

One of the Willamette Valley's undisputed boutique darlings, Kelley Fox has racked up one of the most impressive hauls of accolades in the region in recent years, and her wines have become bona fide favorites at B-21. So when we were offered parcels of two of her smallest-production rarities, we jumped at them.

"The 2023 Pinot Noir Shafer Vineyard is profound ... It hits another gear entirely." - Audrey Frick, JebDunnuck.com

A historic but hidden-gem site in the Tualatin Hills AVA, the Shafer vineyard's own-rooted vines were planted in 1973, making it a truly singular site in the valley This is a wild place in more ways than one, as far off the beaten path as it is, and the wine it produces is pure Oregon in soul. Only 44 cases were produced, and with a monster 98-point score, it's a can't-miss stunner that any serious Pinot collector should have in the cellar.

Some of our all-time favorite boutique Willamette Valley Pinot Noirs have been Kelley Fox's incomparable expressions of the historic Maresh Vineyard in the Dundee Hills AVA. One of the original Pinot Noir plantings in the valley, this exceptional vineyard has given us one absolute stunner after another from Kelley over the years. So we're sad to announce that the 98-point 2023 Liminal Pinot Noir will be the last wine that Kelley produces from Maresh. But it's going out with quite a swan song, having just nabbed Top 10 honors in Vinous' Top 100 Wines of 2025.

"The 2023 is pure magic." - Eric Guido, Vinous

Kelley's intimate familiarity with the Maresh Vineyard has led her to create different block expressions, but the Liminal has always been special, as it's from Jim Maresh's original, own-rooted vines planted 1970, now just three rows. Like all Kelley's wines, its hallmark is unerring precision, "a model of balance, seamless and silken in form with an energetic, lively core" as Vinous' Eric Guido describes the 2023. Kelley's signature elegance and tension are on full display along the with pure, concentrated Maresh terroir soul from these old vines. If you're a fan of the very best Willamette Valley Pinots, this one should be at the top of your list – not only is it just that good, but it's also your last chance to get your hands on it.

98JD 97V #37 Top 100

A transparent red color, the 2023 Pinot Noir Maresh Vineyard Limnal is Kelley’s most prized block, just three rows planted in 1970 beside a black walnut grove. Wild strawberries, hibiscus, grapefruit, and red flowers lead to a lifted, delicate wine with fine tannins, bright acidity, and a citrus-driven finish. The 2023 was her final vintage of this bottling. Drink over the next 20 years.

98 points, Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck (Aug 2025)

Remarkably fresh and perfumed in the glass, the 2023 Pinot Noir Maresh Vineyard Liminal wafts up with a collage of dried herbs, dusty earth, wildflowers and stemmed strawberries. This wine is a model of balance, seamless and silken in form with an energetic, lively core that offsets its crisp wild berry fruits, all elevated by tantalizing acidity. Citrus and spicy notes saturate the palate, along with a nervous feel that slowly recedes into a lingering harmonious inner sweetness. The 2023 is pure magic. Sadly, this will be the last vintage of Maresh from Kelley Fox.

2022 Domaine Raymond Usseglio Chateauneuf-du-Pape Cuvee Imperiale (750ml)
Grenache from Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Rhône, France
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

"Stephan Usseglio has propelled this certified organic and biodynamic estate, named for his father, to among the top ranks of the region." - Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate

The name Usseglio is no secret to lovers of top-flight Châteauneuf-du-Pape, but it's typically PIerre that comes to mind for many. However, that's all changing in recent years, as Domaine Raymond Usseglio is stepping into the limelight under the hand of the highly talented Stephan Usseglio. Having been in charge here since 1999 at the ripe age of 22, Stephan straddles that wonderful line between youthful vision, something he's held onto even as his career has entered a new stage of accomplishment and accolades, and respect for his family's traditions, including their exceptional vine holdings.

The 2022 reds from Usseglio offer a crystal clear picture of a domaine firing on all cylinders and moving up in the quality heirarchy to the very top echelons, highlighted by the JS95 Cuvée Girard, a "dark and powerful" rendition that "makes a bold statement." Taking Grenache purity to the next level is the 2022 Cuvée Imperiale. "With ultra-fine tannins, flawless overall balance, and a great finish," notes Jeb Dunnuck, "it's a gem in the vintage."

This in-stock duo is further proof that the domaine should be on any serious Rhône enthusiasts short list, as these expressions are some of the most polished and artfully crafted offerings you'll find in the region.

96JD 96JS 94WA 94V

The 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Impériale is just about all Grenache yet includes a mix of other permitted varieties, all raised in concrete. Playing in the medium-bodied, perfumed, elegant style of the vintage, this beauty offers an incredible perfume of sweet raspberries, spring flowers, peppery garrigue, and violets. With ultra-fine tannins, flawless overall balance, and a great finish, it's a gem in the vintage that will evolve gracefully over the coming 10-15 years.

96 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Oct 2024)

This astonishing 2022 Chateauneuf has giant depth and concentration of black fruit aromas with notes of spices and dry earth, beneath which is a deep foundation of super-fine tannins. Very long, imposing finish with stacks of licorice and black olive character. Great aging potential. 92% grenache from vines planted in 1901 and 1902, with a small amount of white grape varieties inter-planted. Matured exclusively in concrete tanks. Bottled unfiltered. Drinkable now, but best from 2025.

96 points, Stuart Pigott, James Suckling (Apr 2024)

With a reductive profile, the 2022 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Imperiale, a blend of 95% Grenache Noir and the remaining portion from other authorized varieties in unknown proportions, exhales aromas of peony, iris, dark wild berries, flowers and mulberries. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and seamless, it is characterized by ripe tannins and a broad, saline finish accented by peony notes and bright acids. This cuvée is a beautiful, expertly crafted Chateauneuf-du-Pape totally destemmed and matured entirely in concrete tanks. This is a real gem.

94 points, Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate (Sep 2024)

Raised in concrete, the 2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Impériale Vignes Centenaires is gorgeous. Wafting from the glass with prominent spice box, black cherry, black plum and raspberry alongside minty shadings, the 2022 packs terrific focus and inner energy. Balanced by refreshing acidity and tightly structured, it should see its 20th birthday in excellent shape.

2019 Caparzo Brunello di Montalcino Riserva (750ml)
Sangiovese from Montalcino, Tuscany, Italy
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

B-21 Brunello mainstay Caparzo has experienced a stellar ascent under the ownership of Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini since 1998, and they're arguably producing their best wines ever. At least, that's our take from this trio of fantastic new releases from winemaker Massimo Bracalente.

The 2020 vintage's best wines strike a remarkable balance that defies the warm growing conditions, and Caparzo nails that sweet spot perfectly with this 95-point normale bottling. "This is really pretty ... Creamy and so polished. It goes on for minutes. A graceful and complex 2020 Brunello," notes James Suckling, hinting at one of the vintage's finest virtues, its approachability in the near term. While some 2020s are indeed blockbusters of huge structure and ripeness, they lack the graceful balance that defines the best Brunellos, but fans of the world's best Sangioveses can rest assured that all the varietal's most striking and important features can be found in spades in this stunning expression of "ample energy and dimension."

The most prized parcel on the estate is the old-vine plot next to the historic Tuscan farmhouse, appropriatey called Vigna La Casa, from which comes the La Casa bottling, a sterling terroir expression that always takes the estate's signature style to the next level. "A real charmer with ripe tannins, even, seamless acidity, and a great finish," notes Jeb Dunnuck's Italy critic Audrey Frick in her 96-point review. The 2020 La Casa boasts "otherworldly" balance per Vinous' Eric Guido, and James Suckling even floats the proposition that it could outpace the prodigious 2019 vintage.

Finally, the 2019 Brunello Riserva releases are finally hitting the market, and they're delivering on all the promise and hype the vintage has received since the reviews started coming out. As good as the 2019 normale and La Casa wines were from Caparzo, we knew the Riserva would be a knock-out, and it's here and ready to prove us correct. "The Caparzo 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva makes a terrific first impression thanks to the intensity of its dark fruit aromas and its well-integrated spice. This is a full-bodied wine with deep layers of richness and velvety tannins," writes Monica Larner for Wine Advocate. This is a classically styled Brunello that will cruise in the cellar thanks to its "dramatic length and structure," as Vinous' Eric Guido describes it, shining right alongside previous best-selling, benchmark vintages like 2015 and 2016.

96JS 94WA 94V 94WS 94WI 94D

Restrained, vibrant and fruity riserva with red cherries and raspberries, potpourri and even incense. Medium- to full-bodied with leafy flavor, velvety and ripe tannins yet chewy acidity and a chalky finish. Good blood-orange aftertaste. Better in two or three years but already so delicious.

96 points, James Suckling (Dec 2024)

In the bottle with the black label, the Caparzo 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva makes a terrific first impression thanks to the intensity of its dark fruit aromas and its well-integrated spice. This is a full-bodied wine with deep layers of richness and velvety tannins. There is a hint of concentrated fruit sourness (and sweetness too, from the grape skins) that will subside as this 20,000-bottle release takes on more age in the cellar.

94 points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate (Nov 2024)

The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva opens with a mentholated freshness, blending crushed rocks and mint with hints of tobacco, flowery underbrush and dried black cherries. Silken and serene, this displays notable weight and concentration while maintaining freshness. Waves of texturally ripe wild berry fruits. and fine-grained tannins cake the senses. The 2019 finishes with dramatic length and structure, leaving a tinge of licorice to linger on.

94 points, Eric Guido, Vinous (Nov 2024)

This is lively, displaying fresh cherry, blackberry, plum, black pepper, earth and menthol flavors. Ripe, dense and lifted by formidable tannins. All of the components seem to be in the right place as this finds its equilibrium on the lingering finish. Best from 2027 through 2043. 1,250 cases made, 200 cases imported.

94 points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator (Mar 2025)

Dark berry compote on the nose, the 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva offers notes of wild fresh herbs, clove, and a touch of balsamic. The palate shows herbal freshness and a taut acidity, slightly rustic crunchy tannins, and a medium-long savory finish. No need to wait as this wine is drinking with pleasurable forwardness.

94 points, Vanessa Conlin, Wine Independent (Dec 2024)

Made since 1980, Caparzo’s Riserva is selected at harvest by consulting oenologist team, Paolo and Jacopo Vagaggini. It ages primarily in large Slavonian oak casks with a short passage in French oak tonneaux of 750 litres. Still youthfully restrained, the nose flirts with cedar, leather and heather, then the palate changes gear with its overtly powerful drive of substantial yet sophisticated chalky tannins and brisk acidity. By comparison, subtle flavours of wet stone and polished red cherry seem polite and tame for the time being. This will need time to develop into its full expression.

2021 Vajra Barolo Ravera (750ml)
Nebbiolo from Barolo, Piedmont, Italy
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

"Stylistically, the Vajra Barolos embody all the virtues of modern classicism. The wines are elegant, silky, polished and an absolute delight to drink." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

You know the name, and perhaps you already know that the 2021 vintage in Barolo is one for the books, so let's jump right into this set of stunning new releases from "one of the leading estates in Piedmont."

As any astute Barolo collector knows, a great vintage is marked not only by the heights that the top wines reach, but by the overall quality of the entry-level offerings, and Vajra's flagship Albe bottling knocks it out of the park in 2021. Wine Advocate's Monica Larner tagged it with 95 points and called it "an enormously versatile expression of Nebbiolo, with an affordable price, that offers more value for your money than most Barolos out there," with several other critics chiming in with their own glowing praise for a serious sub-$40 contender.

Movnig to the single crus, Vajra's enviable stable is a star-studded affiair in this benchmark campaign, led by a pair of 98-point collectible treasures in the Ravera and Bricco della Viole, the latter "a wine of stature and breeding" showcasing "little details [that] emerge with terrific sharpness in an epic vintage such as 2021." Of course, we shouldn't overlook the 96-point Coste di Rose. "Loaded with finesse" per Kerin O'Keefe, "[it's] already tempting, [but] the best is yet to come."

It's safe to say this is one of the must-have ranges in 2021 Barolo, so collectors should make room in the cellar and cast a wide net on these guaranteed long-haul trophies.

98JD 97WA 96WS

The 2021 Barolo Ravera comes from an amphitheater-shaped vineyard that captures the sunlight, which the producers believe is what gives this cuvée its depth and richness. In the glass, the nose of the 2021 Barolo Ravera is remarkably concentrated, revealing notes of black raspberry and grenadine, fresh leather, and pressed flowers, with a long and sustained feel. The generous sweetness of fruit and its more noble, ripe tannins come through on the mid-palate, but it has a lot of finesse on the finish. The sapidity and purity of the fruit meets the tannins and acidity where they are fabulously. The estate keeps improving these wines, and this one is exceptional. Harvested over three days, it saw 55 days of submerged cap maceration, followed by 26 months of cask aging. In 2021, they lost about 15% of this vineyard production due to spring frost.

98 points, Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck (May 2025)

From one of the most sought-after crus sites today, the G.D. Vajra 2021 Barolo Ravera opens to a vibrant ruby color. The wine takes its time opening, especially when tasted young, but that delay bodes well for its future bottle evolution. This wine is built like a wall, with each brick representing its own distinct character. There is dark fruit, pressed flower, herb, ebony and a very elegant mineral side. The bouquet is direct and vertical, with lifted intensity over a medium-plus palate. The tannins are elegantly managed, and this wine has the latitude for long cellar aging. It ferments in stainless steel and ages in large oak casks.

97+ points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate (Jan 2025)

This red is complex and solidly built, featuring black cherry, blackberry and black currant aromas and flavors. Iron, earth and underbrush accents chime in on the firm finish. Remains fresh and vibrant. Best from 2029 through 2050. From Italy.

2024 Domaine de l'Amandine Cotes du Rhone Villages Seguret Bel Air Blanc (750ml)
Viognier from Côtes du Rhône Villages, Rhône, France
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

Domaine de l'Amandine's Mathilde Suter and her father have an enviable knack for bringing out the absolute best of the vines in their wines, and yet somehow they do it while keeping their prices almost unbelievably affordable. Indeed, these are some of the greatest buys in the appellation. The 2023 Seguret, a Syrah-dominant blend, offers everything that makes Seguret such a hotbed of savvy picks with unbeatable quality-to-price ratio.

"Quite possibly our direct-import Rhône value of the year." - Andrew Kitz, B-21 Rhône Buyer

The sandy, limestone slopes of the estate's vineyards bring out the most charming qualities of each varietal, with the depth of the Syrah forming a sturdy core that's accented by brighter notes from the Grenache component, all the with vibrant energy of the vintage. "I have loved previous vintages of this exceptional Rhône overachiever in the past, and when I got reacquainted with it at this year’s WineParis/Vinexpo, I was thrilled to find that it’s as good as it’s ever been in the 2023 vintage," notes Andrew. The wine's charming aromatics are full-on Rhône in every sense, while the palate "is deeper and more structured than you’d expect at this price point," suggesting that the 2023 Seguret could be your new house red for years to come if you stock up at our must see, case-buy price.

Savvy, keen-eyed bargain hunters should also take serious interest in the 2022 La Montagne, a Grenache-based blend from the domaine's clay-limestone terraces. Brighter in style yet also more structured than the 2023 Seguret, the 2022 La Montagne offers "a complete and harmonious Southern Rhône profile that can compete with many wines at twice its price." Finally, do not miss the "extraordinarily pretty yet understated" 2024 Seguret Blanc Bel Air, a blend of Roussanne, Marsanne, and Viognier that's one of the more impressive 2024 white Rhônes we've come across in its price point.

We're thrilled to be back on our game with Amandine after a lengthy hiatus, and this trio of new, in-stock arrivals are sure to leave our legions of Rhône fans with huge smiles on their faces from the standout style and incredible value to be found from this under-the-radar gem of a domaine.

As good as Amandine’s reds are, the whites were outstanding when I tasted them at Wine Paris earlier this year. The 2024 Bel-Air Séguret Blanc is the undisputed crème de la crème, a blend of Roussanne, Marsanne, and Viognier that sees just a few months in barrel. Sourced from the domaine’s best plots of white grapes, it’s an extraordinarily pretty yet understated offering, with a high-toned aromatic profile that piques your senses immediately. Perfumed floral notes of jasmine, honeysuckle, and orange blossom, along with faint white peach and apricot, are contrasted with bright menthol, spicy basil, and a firm, underlying minerality. The minimal oak influence is very well integrated and almost imperceptible, except on the palate, which shows a gorgeous tension between weight and energy. The flavor profile takes on more of the spicy character of the nose, with faint stone fruits and soft white flowers playing against a stony, mineral backbone. I was highly impressed by most of the 2024 white Rhônes I tasted at Wine Paris, and this was one of the best of them.

Sonoma's standard-bearer Ferrari-Carano needs little introduction. These quintessential California classics have been all-time best sellers at B-21 for years, and it's always nice to see a standard bearer continue to hit the mark. For the reds, the 2021 Siena hits on all cylinders for fans of this QPR best seller, while the 2021 Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon catches 92 points from Suckling, who notes, "Medium-bodied with fine tannins and beautiful length. Bright and vivid. Plenty of cabernet character." If you're looking for surefire quality at an easy price, you almost have too many good options with these Sonoma classics.

A Bordeaux-style blend that’s a classic for this winery, so lush, opulent and polished. Relaxed velvety tannins, blueberries, black cherries, dark chocolate, spearmint and graphite. Full-bodied, based on 73% cabernet sauvignon, with a soft but solid texture, deep fruit and a lingering finish. Drink now or hold.

This rich and potent blend delivers aromas of spiced blackberry compote, tar and graphite on the nose, giving way to flavors of black plum, cocoa powder and rich tannin that intensifies across the finish. Give this a few years and grill up a ribeye.

"This 90-hecatre estate in Pessac-Léognan is undergoing a renaissance in the hands of winemaker Stephen Carrier and consultant Thomas Duclos ... In short, de Fieuzal is an estate to watch." - William Kelley, Wine Advocate

The above quote from William Kelley truly captures the sentiment around this hidden gem estate in Pessac-Léognan. In a Left Bank appellation known for pushing quality and value to new levels, Château de Fieuzal is hitting all the marks lately, as evidenced by today's line-up of recent releases.

The estate's red is a sub-$50 home-run hitter every year, and that kind of consistency is on display in the 2019, 2020, and 2022 vintages, the latter of which "shines for its balance and purity" per Jeb Dunnuck and was deserving of 96 points from Yohan Castaing ofWine Advocate. Not to be overlooked, the 2020 is also "a medium to full-bodied, seamless, layered wine " that has racked up impressive accolades from across the critical space for its "great mix of richness and elegance."

Finally, like any great Pessac estate, de Fieuzal's white wines are some of the best in Bordeaux, and the two vintages on offer today each boast an impressive critical line that tops off at 95 points. If you're a savvy Bordeaux enthusiast who's been looking for your next great discovery, you've found one in Château de Fieuzal.

Offering up aromas of sweet mulberries and blackberries mingled with hints of licorice, violets and red fruit compote, the 2020 de Fieuzal is medium to full-bodied, rich and gourmand, its broad attack segueing into a supple, layered mid-palate that's framed by ripe acids and sweet, powdery tannins. This is a deeper, more powerful Fieuzal than its 2019 counterpart.

94 points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate (Apr 2023)

From a château that deserves more recognition in the market, the 2020 Château De Fieuzal is a brilliant Pessac- Léognan based on 65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Petit Verdot raised in 60% new barrels. It has a gorgeously pure nose of cassis, ripe black cherries, violets, spice, and scorched earth. This carries to a medium to full-bodied, seamless, layered wine with ripe tannins, plenty of mid-palate depth, and a great mix of richness and elegance. It deserves 4-5 years in the cellar and will drinking incredibly well over the following two decades.

94 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Mar 2023)

The Quinn family has delivered a serious wine in 2020, abrupt on the finish right now from the heavy structure but this is packed full of bristling fruit, plump and broad shouldered and will clearly age well. Floral aromatics on the close of play that add a violet lift and an expansion that is totally charming.

94 points, Jane Anson (Feb 2023)

Attractive aromas of ripe dark berries, sweet spices, nut shell, fine herbs and graphite. Full and opulent palate with an array of plush, fine-polished tannins which coat the mouth. Succulent dark fruit character beneath. Fresh, long-lasting and flavorful with a firm finish. Try after 2025.

93 points, James Suckling (May 2023)

Composed of 65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Petit Verdot, the 2020 de Fieuzal Rouge is deep garnet-purple in color. It wafts out with fragrant scents of dried flowers and fallen leaves over a core of plum preserves and warm cassis plus a touch of Chinese five spice. The medium to full-bodied palate offers bright acidity and a firm, grainy texture to support the muscular fruit, finishing with great length and energy.

"...one of my favorite wines in Pessac-Léognan." - Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate

In a Left Bank appellation known for pushing quality and value to new levels, Château de Fieuzal is hitting all the marks lately. As William Kelley of Wine Advocate observes, "This 90-hecatre estate in Pessac-Léognan is undergoing a renaissance in the hands of winemaker Stephen Carrier and consultant Thomas Duclos ... The estate's 2022 is a sub-$50 home-run hitter which "shines for its balance and purity" per Jeb Dunnuck and was deserving of 96 points from Yohan Castaing of Wine Advocate. Under the direction of Stephen Carrier, de Fieuzal has hit its stride the 2022 vintage, which is emerging as an epic campaign. The estate's 2022 shows all the structure of the vintage, yet it retains a balanced freshness that leaves room for the exceptionally well-defined flavors and aromas to stretch their legs, offering the very best features of both Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in ringing harmony. Best of all, it's approachable even today but will certainly make a solid run in the cellar should you choose to put some away.

If you're a savvy Bordeaux enthusiast who's been looking for your next great discovery, you've found one in the 2022 Château de Fieuzal.

The 2022 de Fieuzal meets all expectations, unfurling with a perfumed bouquet of violet, iris, dark wild berries and flowers. Medium to full-bodied, seamless and layered, it gains depth with the élevage, revealing a fleshy core of fruit and an enrobing mid-palate framed by velvety, sweet tannins. Finishing long, ethereal and fresh, this blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot is one of my favorite wines in Pessac-Léognan. It will offer a broad drinking window and should improve with time in the cellar.

96 points, Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate (Mar 2025)

Stemmy herbs with perfumed flowers, spices, morello cherries and baked citrus. Fresh and round with medium body and soft, fine-grained tannins. Long, plump and refined in the finish. Drink from 2026.

94 points, Zekun Shuai, James Suckling (Jan 2025)

A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot, the 2022 Château De Fieuzal is beautifully elegant, with a deep ruby/plum hue and a perfumed nose of red and black cherries, sappy herbs, and floral nuances. Medium-bodied and balanced on the palate, it has ripe yet polished tannins and a silky texture. It’s not a blockbuster and shines for its balance and purity. It will age gracefully over the coming 10-15 years.

93 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Feb 2025)

The 2022 Château de Fieuzal has a perfumed, well-defined and complex bouquet with blackberry, wild strawberry, gravel and juniper scents. I like the coolness of the aromatics. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a keen line of acidity. It's a more structured de Fieuzal than other vintages, but there is sufficient freshness and delineation on the spicy finish. Give this four to five years in bottle.

93 points, Neal Martin, Vinous (Jan 2025)

Cool blue fruit and wet stone nuances on the nose, smells fresh and inviting. Smooth and lively on the palate, this balances juicy red fruits - crisp cranberry, strawberry and chalky cherries - with quite powdery tannins giving a full mouthfeel and rich texture. I like the styling, feels well controlled with nuance and subtle power and leaves a lasting impression of mint, liquorice and graphite.

2014 Leoville Las Cases (750ml)

"Château Léoville Las Cases is one of the greatest and most consistent estates of Bordeaux..."

- William Kelley, Wine Advocate

Here's a rare opportunity to secure a trove of all-time great library vintages from the legendary Château Léoville Las-Cases, long considered 'first among the Super-Seconds' of Bordeaux with a reputation for First Growth quality. Now offered at best-in-market pricing, these monumental classics will evolve for decades to come, some already aged 40 years in pristine cellar conditions, all garnering 95-point ratings or higher, including multiple 100-point trophies.

Bordering First Growth Latour on the northern end of St-Julien overlooking the Gironde and managed by the Delon family since the late 19th century, the 98 hectares of Las Cases vineyards are planted in a single block encompassing a mosaic of terroirs, surrounded by walls known as the Grand Clos. In other words, it's the ideal terroir for producing immortal claret. Leading with the timeless classicism of the 1990, this vertical comprises the very pinnacle of Las Cases in the modern era. The most coveted vintages of the 21st century, including perfect renditions from 2010, 2016, and 2018, highlight the undeniable greatness of the estate's contemporary track record.

These are all outstanding choices that stand tall next to their First Growth neighbor at a fraction of the price, offering the perfect opportunity to take any world-class collection to the next level. Echoing a sports analogy, the Léoville-Las Cases bench is deep, and with only homerun hitters in the rotation, any and all of them are guaranteed to knock it out of the park.

98JS 96WA

I love the nose of blackberries, blueberries, flowers and citrus. Hints of stones and wet earth. Full body and ultra-fine tannins that are so long and seamless. Incredible length. A wine that you want to drink now.

98 points, James Suckling (Feb 2017)

The 2014 Leoville-Las Cases is a blend of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, with Cabernet Franc and Merlot, cropped at 33 hectoliters per hectare and matured in 85% new oak. There is 6.8% vin de presse this year. Picked between 30 September and 13 October over 12 days. It has a delectable bouquet with very precise, mineral-rich black fruit infused with oyster shell, which appears to be a leitmotif of Jean-Huber Delon's 2014s! The palate is medium-bodied with wondrous purity and tension, the acidity beautifully poised and imparting the palpable sense of energy from start to finish. Where it really excels is on the finish: exquisite structure, very complex with enormous persistence that lingers for more than a minute. Surely the wine of the appellation, ditto one of the best Left Bank 2014s.

2023 Patrice Rion Cote de Nuits Villages Vieilles Vignes (750ml)
Pinot Noir from Côtes de Nuits, Burgundy, France

Value and Burgundy, together in the same sentence? Yes, indeed. We've spent the past six months curating an exceptional roster of overperforming gems that deliver all the class and terroir expression that Burgundy fans crave, while still coming in at surprisingly affordable pricing.

Our direct-import portfolio is at the heart of this selection, starting with the 2023 Chavy-Chouet Bourgogne Blanc Les Femelottes, a compelling entry-level charmer that boasts great pedigree, as it hails from a 3-hectare parcel of high-density plantings bordering the official Puligny appellation. Refined and expressive, it's a superb introduction to a rising-star domaine in the Cote d'Or and a surefire winner for anyone who's looking for true white Burgundy terroir at a bargain price. In a similar vein, Vincent Girardin's 2023 Cuvée St-Vincent Bourgogne Chardonnay is, in fact, made mostly from declassified Meursault vines, with a small balance of Puligny and Chassagne fruit rounding out the composition, so there's no question where the wine derives its outsized character. B-21 Buyer Andrew Kitz explains, "We came across a number of great values on our last trip to Burgundy, but nothing held a candle to this one when it came to Chardonnays in this price tier."

Moving to the reds, you'll find an incredible single-vineyard Coteaux Bourguignon from a fantastic, family-run Gevrey domaine, Marchard-Grillot. The 2023 Marchand-Grillot En Bollery comes from a plot that sits against the east wall of the Clos de Vougeot, and it's "essentially every bit as good as many village crus from the Côte de Nuits, at a mere fraction of the price," according to Andrew. Next up, the 2022 Jessiaume Bourgogne Rouge Les Perrieres is Santenay village pedigree in all but official designation. A northeast-facing parcel of 60-year-old vines, it excels in sunny years like 2022, producing a wine that reflects not only the showstopping fruit concentration of the vintage but also the vivid freshness and definition of slightly cooler micro-climate. "This 2022 easily gives many village crus a run for their money, and it's an instant contender for top Pinot value in the store."

Finally, we have the 2023 Rion Cote-de-Nuits Village Rouge, which "was impressive enough to have us fully convinced that Rion takes things seriously at every level of their line-up." With amplified depth of fruit and structural integrity, it checks every box that we're looking for in red Burgs at this price point – terroir signature, purity, balance, immediate charm, and enough backbone to make it an easy choice for the cellar.

As you can see, we've done our digging, and whether you're looking for an easy pick to enjoy today, or something you can stock up on and come back to over and over again for a few years, there's a surefire winner or three in this list for you.

91AK

Rion’s 2023 Côte de Nuits Village Vieilles Vignes slots in exactly where you’d expect at this stage in quality hierarchy. Mostly from vines in Comblanchien, it offers a solid step up in depth and structure from the Bourgogne Rouge class, the 45-year-old vines providing nice, compact fruit character and bracing tannins to support it. The aromatics lean a little darker than the Bons Batons Bourgogne Rouge, with touches of kirsch and mulberry filling out the otherwise red fruit profile, along with dusty soil tones and confident spice notes in the background. As mentioned, the palate offers more structural seriousness than the Bons Batons, as it buckles down in the middle before loosening up again on the finish. The oak is very well integrated (only 5% new), allowing the blackcurrant, red plum, and mulberry flavors to play out with touches of white pepper and crushed rocks underneath. It’s still a bit tightly wound but comes together in beautiful fashion with minimal time and aeration, so don’t hesitate to put a few bottles away for a few years. Like the Bons Batons, the CdN Villages was impressive enough to have us fully convinced that Rion takes things seriously at every level of their line-up, so we had no second thoughts about taking a big position on these wines, which all over-deliver at their respective prices.

2020 Caparzo Brunello di Montalcino La Casa (750ml)

97JS 95WS 95WI

This is really pretty, with cherry, peach, and orange-peel character. It’s medium-bodied with very fine tannins and a long, long finish. Creamy and so polished. It goes on for minutes. A graceful and complex 2020 Brunello. Is this better than the 2019? Drink after 2027, but already beautiful to taste.

97 points, James Suckling (Sep 2024)

Though compact and tightly knit, this red delivers a beam of strawberry, raspberry, mineral and spice flavors, and there's a hint of milk chocolate as this plays out on the finish. Offers beautiful balance and a resonant aftertaste. Best from 2028 through 2046. 1,666 cases made, 416 cases imported.

95 points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator (Mar 2025)

Quite pale in color, the 2020 Casa has appealing aromatic notes of strawberry jam, white chocolate, fresh rose petal, and underbrush. Quite enjoyable now, it offers medium concentration, supple tannins, and a sweeping fresh acidity that lifts the finish.

Jacquesson Cuvee 747 (750ml)
Chardonnay from Champagne, France
B-21 Top Recommendation

"[Jacquesson] is poised to continue producing Champagnes with exceptional freshness and crystalline textures. The range is impressively consistent, and each cuvée beautifully reflects the soul and the distinct terroirs of this house based in Dizy." - Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate

Consistency is indeed the name of the game at this long-time fan favorite of B-21. Jacquesson's star rose to new heights under the lengthy ownership of the Chiquet brothers, and since its acquisition by the François Pinault juggernaut (owner of Chateau Latour, Clos de Tart, and Napa iconic Eisele Vineyard) in 2022, there have been no signs that anything is any different.

The newly arrived Cuvée 747 is exemplary of this flagship bottling in many ways, but the higher inclusion of Pinot Noir in this 2019-base rendition gives it a notably more intense personality than in previous years. Earning 96 points from James Suckling, it's "a structured and creamy-textured Jacquesson NV with a very fine-bubble texture and lovely polish ... medium- to full-bodied with length and sophistication." Showing the genius of the Chiquet brothers in transparent clarity, the 747 is "an edition that closely reflects the character of the vintage, marked by its tension and phenolic complexity" according to Yohan Castaing, and given the tension, textural depth, and structural foundation from the increased presence of the Pinot Noir, this is set for a wonderful evolution in the cellar over the next several years.

Not to be overlooked, we still have a small amount of the luxurious 746. Based on the warm, solar vintage of 2018, it's "plush with showy red fruit that shimmers amid a vibrant acid energy that brings loads of freshness to the long finish." The 746 will provide a fascinating juxtaposition to the more linear, stately 747, so you can have repeated enjoyment comparing the two side by side for years to come.

96JS 93WA 93JD 93V

A structured and creamy-textured Jacquesson NV with a very fine-bubble texture and lovely polish. It's medium- to full-bodied with length and sophistication, in a friendly and approachable way. Yet there is something that tells you it's going to deliver more with aging. More pinot in the blend than in other years, because the chardonnay was affected by frost, and it is impressive. Chewy at the end with phenolic tension and a slight bitterness, though in a good way. 2019 base. Three years on the yeast. Dosage 1.5g/L. Drink or hold.

96 points, James Suckling (Jul 2024)

Based on the 2019 vintage, the NV Extra-Brut Cuvée No. 747 reveals a lively, delicate bouquet of white pepper, tangerine, lemon oil, herbs and red berries mingled with lovely menthol notes. Medium to full-bodied, tense and sappy, it's layered with a vinous core of fruit and a delicately saline finish. This is not the most opulent iteration from this house but rather an edition that closely reflects the character of the vintage, marked by its tension and phenolic complexity.

93+ points, Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate (Oct 2024)

Based on the 2019 vintage, the NV Champagne Cuvée 747 pours a golden straw hue, and the nose is quite expressive and powerful immediately on opening, with notes of ripe red plum fruit, savory broth, and wet stone. Full-bodied, assertive, and warming on the palate, with a strong personality and savory umami notes through the finish, it’s perfect to pair with roast chicken and root vegetables. Great autumnal feel.

93 points, Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck (Dec 2024)

The NV Extra-Brut Cuvée No. 747 (2019 base) marries textural richness with notable vibrancy. Lemon confit, mint, white pepper, tangerine peel and graphite lend energy throughout. All the elements are very nicely balanced. I especially admire the textural depth here. Spring frost was particularly damaging to the Chardonnay, so the blend is distinctly Pinot-leaning in this release.

2023 Weingut Donnhoff Kreuznacher Krotenpfuhl Riesling Kabinett (750ml)
Riesling from Nahe, Germany

"...yet another stunning collection." - Anne Krebiehl, Vinous

For Riesling fans, there are few names that hold a candle to Dönnhoff, and this set from the exceptional 2023 vintage only adds to their lofty reputation and track record. One of the most consistently excellent estates in the world, they need little introduction to collectors of reference-point Riesling. At every level of the prädikat scale, they've hit one homerun after another.

Starting with the Kabinetten, led by the "stunningly elegant and vibrant" JS96 Leistenberg, we see the crystalline purity and class that defines all of Dönnhoff's wines. Of course, the flagship Hermannshöhle Spätlese remains the estate's most famous and coveted expression, and in 2023 it's "serene, zesty, tender, yet so very serious ... glorious in its lightness and disarming in its elegance," a 99-point showstopper that will stand with the finest vintages of this perennial collectible all-star. In the Auslese category, along with the "ravishing beauty" of the 99-point Hermannshöhle, Dönnhoff's Brücke monopole also produced a near-perfect, "very radical wine with gigantic concentration of cool tropical fruit and mineral acidity."

The crown jewels, of course, are the estate's singular GGs, led by two utterly perfect expressions from Hermannshöhle and Dellchen. While this pair will be among Germany's most exquisite and coveted dry wines of the vintage, collectors shouldn't overlook the sheer class and sophistication of the Krotenpfuhl and Felsenberg, the latter being "a total joy of clarity, direction, and stony poise" with 98-point potential per Vinous' Anne Krebiehl.

With the absolute cream of the Dönnhoff crop all represented below, no matter which direction you turn in this line-up, you'll find yourself with a world-class, unforgettable expression that will shine like few others can.

The 2023 Riesling Kreuznacher Krötenpfuhl Kabinett comes from the site's plateau of quartzite and gravel. A subtle flint on the nose still veils the lemon underneath. 2023 Christophe Cordier Macon-Milly-Lamartine Clos du Four (750ml)
Chardonnay from Macon, Burgundy, France
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

This new entry in our direct-import Burgundy stable is a real coup de grace, considering the wines aren't widely available in U.S. market at all. While Domaine Cordier flies under almost every radar on this side of the pond, we sought them out and paid a visit to Christophe Cordier last fall and again this fall, and the wines were revelatory on both occasions. Simply put, if you're a fan of top-notch white Burgundy that overdelivers, this domaine should be on the top of your short list.

"The 2023 Clos du Four is a beautiful example of its vineyard, offering everything you'd want from the Lafon version at nearly half the price." - Andrew Kitz, B-21 Burgundy Buyer

If you're an avid follower of the Mâcon and its growing reputation, you no doubt know the Clos du Four vineyard from Les Heritiérs du Comte Lafon. It's one of the most coveted sites in the appellation, so much so that Dominique Lafon sought an outright monoply of ownership and almost got it, but Christophe, who had been leasing his parcel from the previous owner for years, fought tooth and nail, ultimately securing his small plot at the top of the vineyard in sole defiance of the Lafon juggernaut. He has a certain wry sense of victory when he talks about this wine, as well he should. He knows the vines and the terroir like the back of his hand, and the result is a pure expression of a great site, made all the more singular by the miniscule parcel from which it comes. As new white Burgundy discoveries go, they don't get much better than this.

"The 2023 Vers Cras an excellent representation of a great site, from a winemaker that more Burgundy aficionados should get to know." - Andrew Kitz, B-21 Burgundy Buyer

Cordier's vineyard holdings comprise many of the finest sites in and around Fuissé and Vergisson, and the Vers Cras, made from 60- to 80-year-old vines, is arguably the crême de la crême of the 2023 range. Christophe's winery is an impeccably kept facility, and this wine shows that meticulous attention to detail in every facet of its personality. As Andrew describes it, "the 2023 Vers Cras 1er Cru walks a fine line between the power of Pouilly-Fuissé and the finesse of Puligny" thanks to his parcel's position on the east-facing, sloped section of the vineyard in Fuissé. As prices in the Côte d'Or keep rising out of reach of many Burgundy fans and collectors, it's great to know that expressions like this one from Cordier can deliver the goods while still being accessible to a broad audience.

This wine is indeed from that Clos du Four, arguably the most coveted vines in the Mâcon appellation. Les Heritièrs du Comte Lafon made this site a household name, but despite Lafon’s insistence on a monopoly, Christophe Cordier fought the good fight and managed to secure a prime parcel for himself at the top of the vineyard, the vines ranging in age from 60 to 80 years. “Dominique doesn’t like me now,” he told me in matter-of-fact fashion during my visit. The 2023 Clos du Four is a beautiful example of its vineyard, offering everything you’d want from the Lafon version at half the price. Solid depth on the nose, with well-defined apple and pear aromas, graceful hints of the 500L puncheons it was fermented in, and subtle minerality. The medium-weight palate shows its cards, matching the fruit on the nose, with pure and balanced precision tying everything together. A top-tier Mâcon expression for a steal.

Another beauty from Albino Rocca, the full-bodied 2021 Ronchi offers enticing scents of new leather, wild herb, dark spice, camphor and dog rose. It’s succulent and delicious, delivering strawberry compote, cherry, mocha and truffle that dance across the palate. Velvety tannins and fresh acidity keep it balanced while a salty mineral note lingers on the close. A fantastic wine. Drink 2026–2033.

96 points, Kerin O'Keefe

The 2021 Barbaresco Ronchi comes across as a bit youthfully austere relative to some of the other wines in the range. Chalk, mint, white pepper, scorched earth and strong mineral notes infuse the Ronchi with tremendous power to match its sinewy, driving personality. This vivid, sculpted Barbaresco is hugely promising.

95 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Oct 2024)

The Albino Rocca 2021 Barbaresco Ronchi shows a dusty mineral quality that adds to the elegance of the bouquet. Beyond that, you get nicely ripened Nebbiolo fruit with wild cherry and redcurrant. It fleshes out over the palate with tart flavors and chalky tannins. Production is 9,000 bottles.

94 points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate (Jan 2025)

A supple, elegant and linear red, boasting strawberry, cherry, rose and menthol flavors, with balance and a long, slightly austere finish. This takes an hour and a half to open right now, so give it a few years in the bottle. Best from 2028 through 2045. 650 cases made, 300 cases imported.

94 points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator (Dec 2024)

Red berries, orange peel, dried lavender and crushed stones on the nose. Medium-bodied, restrained and polished, with a dusty texture to its tannins. Dry and a little chalky at the end. Try from 2027.

Complex aromas of iron, iodine, raspberries, blue fruit, mussel shells, lemongrass and orange peel. Medium- to full-bodied with crunchy fruit and a lightly chewy finish. A barrel selection of the best wines of the vintage. A little tight now, but it opens in the glass. Drink or hold.

97 points, James Suckling (Feb 2025)

A blend of all 11 clones at the estate, the 2023 Pinot Noir The Estate is a jeweled ruby color and opens with bright notes of currants, crunchy, bright berries, brambly spices, clove, and fresh lavender. The palate is vibrant and tension-driven, with well-defined tannins, focused acidity, and a stony texture throughout the wine. Drink 2026-2046.

The 2023 Pinot Noir The Estate has kaleidoscopic scents of wild cherry, pomegranate, dried flowers, conifer and spice that draw you back to the glass again and again. Wow! 1,312 cases were made.

96 points, Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate (Aug 2025)

Offers beautifully rendered notes of hibiscus, rose petal, damson plum and mulberry that stretch out lengthily thanks to the fine-beaded acidity and taut, precise tannins. The sapid finish lets in tea and incense hints amid the glistening fruit. Best from 2026 through 2036. 1,300 cases made.

#8 - Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2025

The 2023 Estate Pinot Noir captures the full breadth of the vineyard’s clonal diversity, rooted in the Goldridge soils of the Sonoma Coast. With ten clones planted across 21 acres, it’s blended each year to represent the best expression of the site. The 2023 vintage opens with the most floral and bright profile in the lineup: fresh roses, fresh lavender layered with crunchy red berries and tart blackberries, a subtle aroma of forest floor, and savoury herbs like sage. Finely structured, it shows tension, thanks to the high natural acidity shaped by the vineyard’s coastal elevation. A compelling, site-driven wine from Fort Ross-Seaview. 1,200 cases produced.

2024 Jean-Marc Burgaud Morgon Cote du Py (750ml)

B-21 Top Recommendation

"In my mind, and according to my palate for that matter, Jean-Marc Burgaud is the don of Morgon. His wines achieve the highest levels and have an unerring propensity to repay cellaring." - Neal Martin, Vinous

Earlier this year we solidified a domaine-direct relationship with a true Beaujolais icon, and now the "first fruits" of this new relationship have just landed in stock. Dubbed "a winemaker at the peak of his powers" by William Kelley, Jean-Marc Burgaud is unquestionably among the elite in Beaujolais, and his wines are roundly coveted by fans and collectors, yet they remain some of the sharpest QPR buys in all of France.

Over the years, Jean-Marc has undergone quite the transformation in his winemaking technique, resulting in the benchmark expressions we know and love today. He's an ardent proponent of Morgon's exceptional individual terroirs, and his classic, semi-carbonic winemaking aims to express each parcel to its fullest. The highlight of the range, Burgaud's Cote du Py James is his perennial magnum opus, sourced from a parcel at the very top of the appellation's most iconic lieu-dit. "The 2022 Morgon Côte du Py James, succulent and complex, is one of the best showings for the vintage for this famous lieu-dit," notes Wine Advocate. Not as well-known but every bit as compelling is the 2022 Côte du Py Javernieres, a JS95 insider's favorite that isn't often seen in the U.S. market. We're also thrilled to present a trio of Burgaud's newly released 2024s, each one a superb expression of its Morgon terroir and a benchmark example of one the region's greatest winemaking talents.

We'll say it again – we couldn't be more thrilled with this new partnership because our direct access to Jean-Marc's cellars brings the benchmark gems to us at jaw-dropping pricing that you won't see anywhere else.

The 2024 Morgon Côte du Py has a vivid, stony bouquet with redcurrant and raspberry fruit unfolding in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins and a touch more sour cherry in the mix, especially on the piquant finish. Again, this is very promising and might become the edgiest of Burgaud's 2024s.

Wilderness Trail B-21 Barrel Select Cask Strength Wheated Bourbon (750ml)
From Kentucky

"This lovely cask is a resonant beauty that will appeal to almost anyone. I mean it sincerely – if you don't find something to love in this cask, then whiskey just isn't your thing." - Andrew Kitz, B-21 Spirits Buyer

We love it when a single cask holds so true to the distillery's identity, and this classic "wheater" from Wilderness Trail does all that, and then some. To start, the mashbill is what put Wilderness Trail on the map in the first place. Their signature recipe includes 24% wheat, which is the highest propotion you'll find anywhere in the Bluegrass State. They also utilize only fresh ingredients, never adding any backset (spent grains from a previous mash), which results in a pristine "sweet mash" style that is the hallmark of the distillery.

Then, in a marriage made in whiskey heaven, this exceptional distillate was aged in a top-quality ISC Classic #4 char barrel, the characteristics of which lend themselves perfectly to the Wilderness Trail Wheated profile. The #4 char level imparts gorgeous sweetness to an already opulent profile, but somehow the whiskey never loses its balance, thanks to spirit's medium body and the barrel's pure, refined tannins. "A charmer through and through" as described by B-21 Spirits buyer Andrew Kitz, it's a beautifully textured specimen that seems tailor-made for your favorite bourbon cocktail. If you've ever wondered what the wheated bourbon style is all about, this single cask is exhibit A for why the category is a hot ticket among bourbon insiders.

92AK

At 5 years and 6 months in barrel, this classic “wheater” from Wilderness Trail is a charmer through and through. Where its sister cask is a bold, spice-driven bruiser, this lovely cask is a resonant beauty that will appeal to almost anyone. I mean it sincerely – if you don’t find something to love in this cask, then whiskey just isn’t your thing. The first pour is jam-packed with ripe red fruit aromas as Bing cherry, raspberry, and candied red apple jump forth with little to no coaxing. The background offers toasty barrel notes that are totally pure and approachable, like the staple ingredients in a world-class baker’s spice cabinet. After some time in the glass, secondary notes of bay laurel and mint play against chocolate chip cookie dough. The subtle heat on the nose blows off quickly as the first sip reveals cooked red fruit compote on evenly textured barrel tannins that provide superb balance to the opulent flavors. Those toasty baking spices show up on the medium-weight mid-palate, where the crunchy edges usher in a finish with a little green peppercorn, toasted herbs, and dried mint adding intrigue. It’s a remarkable balanced effort from a Kentucky standout that does full justice to the wheated style and shows why it’s a favorite among bourbon connoisseurs in the know.

2023 Weingut Donnhoff Niederhauser Hermannshohle Riesling Grosses Gewachs (750ml)
Riesling from Niederhausen, Nahe, Germany
B-21 Top Recommendation

100JS 98V

Incredibly refined and precise, yet with Grand Canyon-like depths and layers, this incredible dry riesling has a horizon-to-horizon spectrum of stone fruit, citrus and wild berry aromas, plus a touch of dusty hot soil as rain starts to fall on it. On the compact, medium-bodied palate, this side of the wine builds and builds to a giant crescendo in the almost endless finish. Drink or hold.

100 points, James Suckling (Aug 2024)

The 2023 Riesling Niederhäuser Hermannshöhle Grosses Gewächs, from a south-facing shale site with just a few calcareous veins, is golden in color. The vines were planted in 1949, and they now bring just small yields of tiny berries with a different pulp/skin ratio. A gorgeous lift tells of citrus zest, with an ethereal touch of crushed citrus leaf and spicier herb. The palate is crystalline. It's a clear-cut, taut, pure vision of stone and citrus. This is a pure, poised, precise and concentrated wine. Time and again, it is astonishing that so much flavor, stone and energy can be captured in a wine of such taut proportions at 12.5% alcohol. What an experience! There is no reliance on power, volume or fat, just slenderness, elegance and essence. (Bone-dry)

2021 Villota Vina Gena Vinedo Singular (750ml)
Tempranillo from Rioja, Spain

Fans of pedigreed, modern Rioja will want to pay close attention to today's private offer from Villota for several reasons. First, the estate itself was the original vineyard souce for CVNE's Contino project, but the family split off from the Cooperative in 2013 to focus on building their own label. Second, the man at the helm is responsible for Contino's ascension to Rioja's elite during the 1990s, and he's bringing that same expertise to bear in elevating Villota's stature in the region. Finally, the estate's situation at a bend in the Ebro River endows the wines with outstanding polish and flair that make them accessible to a wide audience.

"Dry, taut and juicy on the palate, balance and energy come together to define a complex and modern Rioja wine."- Joaquin Hidalgo, Vinous

The latest vintage of their Viña Gena, from a plot designated Viñedo Singular in 2017, more than lives up to its special status in the estate's portfolio as a 96-point stunner that Jeb Dunnuck calls it "gorgeous stuff" and "another remarkably pure, clean, impressive wine from this estate with tons to love." James Suckling's 94-point review lauds a "nuanced and rather more delicate than powerful" example of the riverbank style of Rioja, with firm but refined tannins that suggest it has more to offer if given a few years in the cellar. Whether you enjoy it today or explore its evolution down the road, the 2021 Viña Gena is a Rioja sleeper star of the highest order.

96JD 94JS

Coming from the oldest block on the estate and vines planted in the 1930s, the 2021 Viña Gena Viñedo Singular is 100% Tempranillo. It's another remarkably pure, clean, impressive wine from this estate with tons to love. Cassis, blackberries, graphite, classy oak, and spring flower notes all define the aromatics, and it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a layered, supple mouthfeel, building tannins, and a great finish. It needs 3-5 years of bottle age, but it's gorgeous stuff. It's not as complex as the flagship, yet possibly has better tannins.

2019 Agrapart Mineral Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru (750ml)
Sparkling from Avize, Champagne, France
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

Crafted by artisan producer and B-21 favorite Pascal Agrapart in the chalky Cote des Blancs, Champagne Agrapart has enjoyed an under the radar reputation, but with the release of these highly rated 2025 cuvees, that's about to change. From one of the top grower-producers in the region, these selections from Agrapart offer a rare taste of meticulously crafted, terroir-driven Champagne at a remarkable value that's bound to sell out in a flash.

Now run by the fourth consecutive generation, Agrapart ranks at the top echelons of Champagne, earning a 3-star rating in the Revue de Vin du France alongside only 7 other houses, including Krug. Planted almost entirely with Chardonnay with a few small plots of Pinot Noir, the ten-hectare Agrapart Domaine comprises more than 70 small parcels predominantly in the Grand Cru villages of Avize, Cramant, Oiry, and Oger with a few Premier Cru plots on the Cote de Blancs, boasting low yielding vines averaging over 40 years of age with the oldest over 70 years. Taking the reins of his family's historic estate in Avize over four decades ago, Pascal works the soils manually while employing organic practices, tilling with horses to ensure his soils do not get compacted (one of his parcels is worked by and named for his horse Venus). Fermenting the base wines exclusively with native yeasts which he believes is critical to expressing the terroir, Pascal employs a mix of older barrels dependent on the cuvee and longer than required bottle aging on the lees, yielding gorgeous, pure fruit impeccably balanced with chalky minerality that finishes long, each cuvee uniquely identified with a different colored plaque (i.e., the round metal disk on top of the cork).

97JS 96V

A minerally Champagne with aromas of chalk, citrus, lemon pith, oyster shells, iodine and linden tree. Vertical on the palate, with floral flavors and a fine mousse. Very intense and persistent, with a medium body and long, zesty, lingering mineral acidity. 3 g/L dosage. Drink or hold.

97 points, James Suckling (Oct 2025)

The 2019 Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Mineral Grand Cru is fabulous. All it needs it time to unwind. Readers should be in no rush. Bright and packed with energy, the 2019 is so classy right out of the gate. Vibrant and intensely mineral, the 2019 is very closed in on itself. That won't be a problem in a few years' time, but for now, the Mineral is a wine for the cellar. Extended saline-inflected notes punctuate the sculpted finish, adding to the wine's alluring personality. Mineral, a blend of old-vine sites in Avize and Cramant, is slow to emerge, but it's a Champagne that rewards cellaring. Dosage is 2 grams per liter. Disgorged: June 2025; multiple disgorgements throughout the year.

2022 Domaine de l'Amandine Cotes du Rhone Villages La Montagne (750ml)
Grenache from Côtes du Rhône Villages, Rhône, France

92AK

You might expect Amandine’s 2022 La Montagne to be a step up over the 2023 Séguret, and that’s true in a sense, although the latter is so compelling for its price that it’s hard comparison to make. Instead, I would say the La Montagne is a different expression than the Séguret, as it comes from the domaine’s clay-limestone terraces instead of the sandy slopes that produce the Séguret. That terroir difference lends itself to a firmer, more structured profile and brighter though no less concentrated red fruits. The aromatics are full-on red plum, red currant, raspberry, and cherry, with lively vibrance and intensity. Dried violets add just a touch of deeper intrigue, but the peppery spice and super-fragrant garrigue are what really set this wine apart. The red fruit tones are echoed on the palate, along with the spice component, while the frame is more compact and substantial than the Séguret (which is saying something, because that wine is itself quite substantial for its quality tier). Hints of cured meat, cumin, and subtle anise tones go with the balanced, underlying minerality to form a complete and harmonious Southern Rhône profile that can compete with many wines at twice its price.

I also tasted the 2021 Real de Asúa, which was already in bottle. 2021 was cooler, and the wine has a little less alcohol than the 2020 I tasted next to it. It comes from the same vines and the process was similar, but in this case, they didn't use any new barrels in the aging, which took place in 100% second-use barriques. This was very recently bottled and felt a little dizzy, with a slightly blurry nose, somehow creamy and with a more oxidative touch and a more solid palate, a little more exuberant and with abundant tannins that need time to get polished and/or powerful food. I might be getting it wrong, because the harvest was better than 2020. But today, the wine is still a bit of a question mark. Time will tell... 14,493 bottled produced. It was bottled in January 2024.

96 points, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate (Feb 2024)

Such an exuberant, floral nose with lots of berries, plums, dark cherries, ink and touches of dark minerals, mussels and spices. Quite pristine and naked, with a medium to full body and a mouthful of powerful, sensuous tannins. Great tension. A super-confident, single-vineyard wine without much adornment. Drink or hold.

96 points, James Suckling (Aug 2024)

Charred sandalwood, taut fruit, eucalyptus and mint, with waves of cloves and rose petals. As it opens you suddenly get studded by anis, fennel, not overly marked by the oak, with a savoury edge that makes for a mouthwatering finish. 50% new oak for ageing, 225l barrels from Troncais, 3.63ph. Generous and accessible, this will age well but no need to wait more than a year or two to begin enjoying. The 2021 vintage saw an extended growing season in Rioja because of a great late September and October weather.

96 points, Jane Anson (Aug 2024)

Seductive nose, detailed and perfumed, with a complex layering of wet stone freshness, subtle florality and herbal nuance. Crushed rose petals, minty tapenade, bramble and graphite mingle effortlessly. The palate echoes this filigreed arrangement , supported by a detailed scaffold of mineral tannins. Pure, intense flavours of mulberry, blackberry, black fig and black olive at the core, lined by hay, chamomile and gentle flintiness. Very persistent with a long tail of balsamic freshness.

2022 Jean-Marc Burgaud Morgon Cote du Py James (750ml)
Gamay from Morgon, Beaujolais, France

Wonderful interplay of spicy oak with savory and blackberry aromas on the nose. Ample but beautifully integrated tannins on the medium- to full-bodied palate. Very long, firmly structured finish. From the top of the Cote du Py hill, matured in 10-year-old oak barrels. Drinkable now, but best from 2025.

96 points, Stuart Pigott, James Suckling (Mar 2024)

The 2022 Morgon Côte du Py James, succulent and complex, is one of the best showings for the vintage for this famous lieu-dit. The nose is rich with grilled blackberries, licorice, cigar box and underbrush, followed by a medium to full-bodied, well-structured palate. The wine shows the most tannins of the range, chalky in texture, though integrated nicely into the layered core. Although strong on their own, the black-fruited flavors take a back seat to deeper, complex notions of iron and licorice on the mid-palate and back end. The wine glides along the palate with finesse, never feeling chunky, culminating in a lengthy, flavorful finish of high precision.

2023 Kelley Fox Pinot Noir Shafer Vineyard (750ml)
Pinot Noir from Willamette, Oregon
B-21 Top Recommendation

The 2023 Pinot Noir Shafer Vineyard is profound, with notes of ripe raspberry liqueur, pressed flowers, and fresh herbs leading to a wine with depth and lift. It hits another gear entirely, with ripe tannins, balanced acidity, and a long, resonant finish. This is built to last 25 years.

Naming it to both his Top 100 Wines of 2022 and ranked #21 on his Top 100 Spanish Wines, James Suckling calls the muscular 98 pt. 2019 Marques de Riscal Tapias de Marques de Riscal "delicious now" with "great aging potential" ahead, sourced from the estate's oldest Tempranillo clones planted on natural terraces in ferrous-rich clay and limestone soils that contribute a distinct Bordeaux-like minerality, the acclaimed inaugural release also available as 750 ml. and magnum in original wooden cases of one certain to be a focal point in any collection and a perfect gift for Spanish wine lovers. Ranked #42 on James Suckling's Top 100 Spanish Wines of 2023, the thrilling 98 pt. 2020 Marques de Riscal Tapias de Marques de Riscal also from the estate's organically farmed 2.8-hectare old vine parcel in the Finca Las Tapias vineyard was aged in 50% new French oak to yield "superb energy" according to Decanter's Georgina Hindle with "a long and lingering spicy, fresh finish," its well-defined tannins promising to evolve gracefully over the next decades. An inaugural release from superstar 100 pt. winemaker Benjamin Romeo formerly of Artadi, the powerful 97 pt. 2020 Benjamin Romeo Alma Contador is a blend of mainly Tempranillo with 8% Garnacha sourced from meticulously selected old vine fruit grown at three different altitudes and aged in a range of custom made new French oak barrels, a ripe and concentrated Rioja that's both "powerful and elegant" according to the Wine Advocate's Gutierrez available at a fraction of the Bodega's flagship cult favorite wine. Described as "utterly gorgeous" by critic Jane Anson, the plush and refined 100 pt. 2019 Yjar is a field blend of mostly old vine Tempranillo and Garnacha with other indigenous varietals from 3.8 hectares of select plots from Remelluri's vineyards and aged in a mix of large French oak foudres and barrels for 30 months yielding rich, juicy fruit perfectly balanced by integrated fine tannins, described as terroir-evangelist Telmo Rodriguez's answer to world-class Bordeaux and earning the #5 spot on James Suckling's Top 100 Wines of Spain 2023.

Such purity and clarity to the wine with blackberries, blackcurrants, violets and orange peel. Medium to full body and fine tannins. Polished, bright, vivid and agile. Powdery tannins with wonderful length and finesse. Savory, too. Give it three to four years of bottle age.

97 points, James Suckling (Sep 2023)

The 2020 Real de Asúa is a wine that changed in 2018 when it started being produced exclusively with Tempranillo from the lieu-dit Carromaza in the village of Villalba. 2020 was warm, and the grapes were picked two weeks earlier than in 2019. The grapes are harvested in 300-kilo palot containers and fermented after a cold soak in small oak vats with indigenous yeasts. Malolactic was in French oak barrels, and the aging was in new and second-use barriques and lasted 12 months. This feels quite classical, balanced and serious. The nose is subtle, elegant and quite impressive, with notes of herbs and a touch of mustard; it's fresh and well above the expectation from a year like 2020. Today, I prefer this to the 2021. 12,453 bottles were filled in March 2023.

96+ points, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate (Feb 2024)

A more generous vintage than 2019, at around 40hl/h yield from this 2.5ha vineyard, putting an emphasis on peony and rose flowers. This has liqourice and crushed raspberries, plenty of weight through the mid palate without being heavy, lovely juice. 80% new oak, large size oak casks for fermentation. 80% new oak, wild yeast ferment. 3.6ph, 95IPT.

2021 Fieuzal Blanc (750ml)
Sauvignon Blanc from Pessac-Leognan, Bordeaux, France
B-21 Top Recommendation

The 2021 Blanc is turning out beautifully, evoking aromas of mint, spices, peach, lemon oil and spring flowers. Medium to full-bodied and perfectly balanced, it’s tense and fleshy, crystalline and seamless, with a fresh, saline and pure finish. It feels reassuringly persistent and could age well over the next two decades. This outstanding wine is crafted from 60% Sauvignon Blanc and 40% Sémillon.

95+ points, Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate (Feb 2024)

Based on a 60/40 split of Sauvignon and Sémillon, the 2021 Château De Fieuzal Blanc has terrific honeyed citrus, mint, floral, and subtle herbal notes in a medium-bodied, balanced, elegant, yet nicely concentrated package. It's another beautiful white in the vintage that will evolve for at least a decade.

93 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Apr 2024)

Pretty nose of gooseberries, sliced apples, lime curd and nutmeg. Touch of jackfruit. Fresh, bright and balanced with a medium body and delicious layers of fruit, spice and minerals. Drink now or hold.

93 points, James Suckling (Dec 2023)

Excellent quality in bottle as it was En Primeur, showing grip and lift without sacrificing fleshy fruit and poised, carved green apple, pear and stone fruit character with salted caramel and toasted cracker on the signoff. Easy to recommend. Bottled under Diam cork.

93 points, Jane Anson (Mar 2024)

After a couple of swirls, the 2021 de Fieuzal Blanc erupts from the glass with energetic notes of lime leaves, green apples, and fresh pears followed by hints of coriander seed and chalk dust. The light-bodied palate has a quiet intensity of youthful citrus and apple flavors supported by a racy backbone, finishing long and chalky.

93 points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Independent (Apr 2024)

A lovely intense florality on the nose. Crunchy green apple and bright zesty lime on the palate with elements of brioche and lemon meringue pie. Supple and taut with both sweet and sour elements - the fruit and acidity really to the fore, but well packaged with excellent energy and overall structure. This is shaping up nicely, showing lots of promise with crispness and a salty touch to the finish.

2023 Patrice Rion Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Beaux-Monts (750ml)
Pinot Noir from Vosne-Romanee, Burgundy, France
B-21 Top Recommendation

Last autumn's trip to Burgundy started with a bang on the first day when we visited Domaine Michele & Patrice Rion and got reacquainted with this consistently excellent property. Now run by Patrice's son Maxime, the domaine is on a true roll of late, resulting in benchmark renditions from their holdings in Vosne, Chambolle, and Nuits, the latter of which turned out today's three stellar 1er crus.

Garnering generous accolades from Burgundy's three most influential critical voices, this trio of stunning 2022s stand with elite company in Nuits-St-Georges, keeping pace with names like Gouges, l'Arlot, and Chevillon, but at a fraction of their prices thanks to our direct access to the domaine's cellars. Each one is a pure reflection of its Nuits-St-Georges terroir and the outstanding 2022 vintage, offering undeniable collectible appeal for the cellar. The "firm, serious and impeccably well-balanced" 1er Cru Clos des Argillieres kicks it off with 94-point potential from all three critics, while the "superb" Les Hautes Pruliers, from a top-of-slope parcel in the famed 1er cru, shows 95-point potential per Neal Martin and quintessential appellation character - "a Nuits from Nuits" as Jasper Morris describes it. The crown-jewel of the domaine, however, is the singular 1er Cru Clos St-Marc from a monopole parcel of 60 year old vines just under a hectare in size. A Five Star wine with 97-point potential according to Morris, the Clos St-Marc shows "brilliant intensity ... with startling energy and drive," a powerful Nuits with focus and poise that will cruise for two-plus decades.

We're thrilled to present these impressive, under-the-radar Cote-de-Nuits standouts to our Burgundy clients at our unbeatable, domaine-direct pricing, so don't miss this opportunity to load your cellar with some of the sharpest collectible buys in the acclaimed 2022 vintage.

94V 94BH

The 2023 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaux Monts 1er Cru was completely destemmed and matured in one-third new oak. This is cohesive and focused on the nose, with neatly integrated oak and touches of iris flower infusing the black cherry fruit, as subtle bilberry scents emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins. What I appreciate most is the texture, which is not smooth but has a little edginess. Touches of white pepper develop toward the finish, not concentrated or powerful, but very poised and persistent. I might prefer this to the 2022.

92-94 points, Neal Martin, Vinous (Jan 2025)

A more elegant and slightly cooler nose combines perfumed and exuberantly spicy aromas that blend red and dark currant, exotic tea and a suggestion of sandalwood. Much like the Chambolle Les Cras, the middle weight flavors are refined to the point of possessing a silky texture while flashing an abundance of minerality on the solidly powerful, balanced and strikingly long finale. This could use better depth but the potential seems irreproachable.
