B‑21Fine Wines & Liquors is fantastic. They had in stock a Chianti Classico Riserva I had been looking for, at a very good price. I ordered 6 bottles, and was impressed the shipping was only $12.00. They shipped fast in an extremely well packed box. Since an adult signature is required upon delivery, and unsure if anyone would be home, I had the package delivered to my local Walgreens store...worked flawlessly. I will definitely buy from them again.

"...[Chavy] is making brilliant wines that transcend their status." - Neal Martin, Vinous

We still can't believe our great fortune to have established Domaine Chavy-Chouet as a direct-import relationship last year, as the 2023s have proven to be incredibly smart buys that, as Neal Martin implies above, far outpace their price points across the board.

The exceptional village-level crus from Meursault and Puligny are are top-class overachievers from Romaric Chavy, who "continues to impress" as noted by Burghound's Allen Meadows. The true quiet genius of Chavy, however, is readily on display in his range of benchmark-quality 1er crus.

The "high-class Genevrières" leads the way in Jasper Morris' Inside Burgundy reviews, a 94-point expression of a hallowed terroir often seen on labels at twice this price. "Clean yet complex, with real intensity, this is a cut above," he declares of the equally stunning, 94-point 1er Cru Les Folatières from Puligny. For those seeking the vintage's best sleeper stars, look no further than the 93-point 1er Cru Murgers des Dents de Chien, a textbook rendition of a site that is gaining more and more collectible cachet with each passing vintage.

In a market, where true values are rarely found at all points on the price spectrum, this range from Chavy-Chouet bucks the trend and delivers undeniable class and sophistication at unbeatable, domaine-direct pricing.

94JM 92BH

Fresh lemon and lime, a slight reductive note on the nose, this has the right backbone and tensile qualities, with the requisite delicacy of detail. Very long, spring flowers in the mix, a bit of wholemeal, saline, complex and steadily growing. High class Genevrières. Drink from 2029-2035. Tasted Oct 2024.

94 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy (Dec 2024)

(from vines in Genevrières Dessous planted in 1943). A naturally exotic nose speaks of jasmine tea, the essence of pear and cool citrus wisps. The sleeker, though not richer, middle weight flavors exude a subtle minerality on the lightly lemon-tinged finale that exhibits even better length. Classy juice with fine development potential.

2021 Barone Ricasoli Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Gaiole Castello di Brolio (750ml)
Sangiovese from Chianti, Tuscany, Italy
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

There's arguably no name more important to the history of Chianti Classico wine than Ricasoli. After all, it was one Bettino Ricasoli, an accomplished Italian statesman and baron, who first devised what would become the Chianti "recipe" in the mid-1800s. That is to say, he was the first to turn the region's focus to Sangiovese, where it has remained ever since.

Now his descendant Francesco Ricasoli runs the family's iconic Castello di Brolio property from which the Chianti category was born, and he has done as much as anyone in guiding the Chianti Classico DOCG into its next era, one where quality and style are rigorously maintained through new rules for production and labeling. The most important of these new steps has been the establishment of the Gran Selezione classification and its attendant regional designations or UGAs. Ricasoli's estate vineyards provide some of the best qualitative expressions of the Gaiole UGA while exemplifying the visionary genius behind the new classification system.

The 2021s take full advantage of this generational benchmark vintage, with a trio of critically acclaimed standouts. The 97-point Gaiole Colledila landed on last year's Wine Spectator Top 100 list. This cru is classic clay-limestone terroir for Sangiovese, resulting in a wine that "shows superb balance and grace, with the best yet to come." The Gaiole Ceniprimo, from sand and silt soils, takes on a fleshier fruit profile from its micro-climate, but the structured tannins suggest cellaring will be immensely beneficial. Finally, the WA97 Gaiole Roncicone "offers energy and a great sense of focus." More linear, refined, and reticent than its stablemates, this wine represents the new era of collectible Chianti Classico at its finest.

As prices for Italy's most renowned collectible wines continue to rise, we expect the Gran Seleziones to take a big step forward in this space, thanks to their skyrocketing quality and relatively affordable prices, with iconic estates like Ricasoli leading the way.

This is so classy, with finesse and sensitivity that are so mesmerizing. It’s delicate and almost weightless, with a beautiful and energetic fruit and acid balance. It’s medium-bodied and extremely long. Medium chewy. It goes on and on. Dark cherries, bark and lots of flowers in the finish. Drinkable now, but better in two or three years and beyond.

97 points, James Suckling (Apr 2024)

Ricasoli's flagship wine is a blend of grapes from vineyards in Gaiole on the main soil types of Chianti Classico: macigno (sandstone), galestro and alberese. The fruit is vinified in stainless steel and aged for 22 months in tonneaux, 30% new. Subtle dark cherry and spiced plum notes emerge, followed in the mouth by a gloriously vertical structure where the succulent fruit floats and the zesty edges vibrate with energy. The fruit has wonderful sapidity, and the tannins are supportive but play a background role. Absolute class.

96 points, James Button, Decanter (Jul 2024)

Now identified by the Gaiole subregion on the back label, the Barone Ricasoli 2021 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Gaiole Castello di Brolio reveals a beautiful bouquet that is packed tight with carefully ripened fruit. There is a sweet spot in terms of aromas with a hint of candied cherry that is folded into iris root, dried mint and spice. This generous Sangiovese ends with lasting freshness.

95 points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate (Jul 2024)

A core of ripe cherry, plum and pomegranate pervades this vibrant, complex red. A balanced version, with a firm grip on the finish complementing its fresh acidity. The long aftertaste echoes the fruit and evokes mineral and Mediterranean scrub elements. Best from 2026 through 2043. 2,750 cases made, 800 cases imported.

2022 Chapelle St Theodoric La Guigasse (750ml)
Grenache from Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Rhône, France
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

Chapelle St. Theodoric might not be a household name on the greater Châteauneuf scene, but insiders and savvy collectors have long prized these wines as reference-point classics, and the professional press always seems to be on board with what's going on at this under-the-radar address.

"Chapelle St. Theodoric is turning out some of the most compelling wines from Châteauneuf du Pape ... These are wines worth seeking out..."

- Joe Czerwinski,Wine Advocate

We've just secured our allocation of the remarkable 2022s, and once again they hit the trifecta — top critical acclaim, pristine Southern Rhône class and sophistication, and unbeatable pricing that you likely won't see anywhere else. Sourced from a miniscule plot within the Les Pignan lieu-dit, the 2022 Le Grand Pin is the quintessential expression of the St. Theodoric profile. Notching 96-98 points from Wine Advocate's Joe Czerwinski, it's full of classic garrigue character to go with pure, old-vine Grenache fruit and seamless structure. In short, "it's going to be brilliant," as Jeb Dunnuck declares. Likewise, its stablemate, the 2022 La Guigasse from sandy soils in the eponymous lieu-dit, comes in at a full 98 points from Decanter's Matt Walls, who dubs it "a very complete wine that's hard to fault, showing whole-bunch southern Rhône winemaking at its best." There's no denying the appeal of these two paragons of world-class, traditional Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

98D 97WA 96JD

Herbal notes flow throughout the juicy strawberry fruit. The alcohol is present but it doesn't feel excessive, the balance is good. It’s exceptionally long indeed, with vibrancy and freshness. The tannins are incredibly fine, plentiful and mouthcoating. A very complete wine that's hard to fault, showing whole-bunch southern Rhône winemaking at its best. This is pure Grenache grown on sand at the lieu-dit La Guigasse, aged for 24 months in demi-muids. 4,800 bottles made.

98 points, Matt Walls, Decanter (Sep 2023)

Much like its Grand Pin stablemate, the 2022 Chateauneuf du Pape La Guigasse manages to be full-bodied and concentrated yet simultaneously light and airy in feel. There's less rose petal here and more garrigue, backed by silky notions of ripe cherries and dark chocolate, while gossamer-like tannins provide a wonderfully pliable, gauzy structure.

95-97 points, Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate (Sep 2023)

The 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape La Guigasse is meatier and more savory, with a gorgeous perfume of mulled red fruits, ground black pepper, and Provençal garrigue. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it delivers fine tannins, a seamless, layered mouthfeel, nicely integrated stems, and a great finish.

2024 Domaine Huet Vouvray Le Mont Sec (750ml)
Chenin Blanc from Vouvray, Loire, France
B-21 Top Recommendation

"Domaine Huet remains a pillar of Vouvray and a touchstone for Chenin Blanc worldwide, a domaine where viticulture, philosophy and place converge in bottles of extraordinary clarity and longevity." - Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate

The above quote from Yohan Castaing sums up almost everything you need to know about the magnificent wines of Domaine Huet. Sure, we could also mention that they have been a biodynamic pioneer since 1993, or that their wines age as well as almost any wines in the world, red or white. But at the end of the day, it's the singular character and class of the juice in the bottle that sets them apart from their contemporaries.

The newly released, single-vineyard Sec bottlings from 2024 show why the domaine is a force to be reckoned with, not only in Vouvray, but anywhere in the Loire. Even in an exceedingly difficult vintage, this trio adds more glowing acclaim to add to the domaine's already full resumé, proving that Huet is still at the pinnacle.

Our parcel comes in at razor-sharp pricing that puts the already spectacular cellar appeal of these gems in even brighter light, so avid Loire enthusiasts or any collector of world-class, reference-point wines can take their collections up a notch or two. The iconic Clos du Bourg site produced "a lacy, seductive version, with impressive range," according to Wine Spectator, while John Gilman of View From the Cellar notes the 94-point Le Haut Lieu as "bright, focused and full-bodied, with a lovely core of fruit, excellent soil transparency and grip, a fine spine of acidity and lovely precision." Rounding out the 2024s, the WA93 Le Mont rounds out the 2024s is "both dense and lively ... a crystalline expression of Vouvray." Finally, don't miss a pair of stellar 2022 Moelleux expressions, led by the monumental, 97-point Clos du Bourg 1ère Trie. "Long, precise and seamless, this is a standout cuvée and one of the highlights of the vintage at this storied address," declares Castaing.

Our parcel comes in at razor-sharp pricing that puts the already spectacular cellar appeal of these gems in even brighter light, so avid Loire enthusiasts or any collector of world-class, reference-point wines can take their collections up a notch or two.

93WA 93WS 93JG

Delicate, vibrant aromas of pear and white peach mingled with spring blossoms introduce the 2024 Vouvray Le Mont Sec. Medium- to full-bodied, it is both dense and lively, built around a fleshy core of fruit, bright acidity and a slightly incisive texture that carries through to a long, ethereal and finely saline finish. Purer and more mineral than Clos du Bourg, this is a crystalline expression of Vouvray—even within the framework of this challenging vintage. Residual sugar: 7.5 grams per liter.

93 points, Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate (Oct 2025)

A silky, streamlined beam of green plum, star fruit and pear blossoms is dusted with green herbs. Salty density builds, with the purity of fruit bolstered by succulent acidity and chalky mineral notes. Floral high tones grace the finish, which shows precision and focus. Beautiful now but a bit tightly wound; this will taste better with time in bottle. Drink now through 2035. 800 cases made.

93 points, Kristen Bieler, Wine Spectator (Jul 2025)

The 2024 Vouvray “Le Mont” Sec from Domaine Huët is just a touch riper than the Le Haut Lieu bottling, coming in at an even thirteen percent alcohol in this vintage. The wine is deep and complex aromatically, but a bit more reticent in personality than the Le Haut Lieu, offering up scents of quince, hints of pear, a beautiful base of chalky soil tones, a bit of orange peel, lanolin and a topnote of dried flowers. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and rock solid at the core, with fairly broad shoulders, a fine base of soil, zesty acids and a long, well balanced and still very primary finish. Unlike the Le Haut Lieu Sec, the Le Mont is going to insist on some hibernation time before it starts to blossom and drink with a degree of generosity.

2023 Quinta Nova Unoaked Tinto (750ml)
Touriga Nacional from Douro, Portugal
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

While Portugal's Douro Valley is obviously most famous its fortified port wines, the number of estates gaining serious attention for their dry whites and reds is growing with every vintage, and you can add Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo (or "Quinta Nova" for short) to that list.

This historic property is arguably one of the most visually dramatic places in the wine world (something that can be said for pretty much all of the Douro Valley), and their ancient, terraced vineyard blocks are home to approximately 130 massale selected vine species, rigorously documented, nursed, and cultivated from the estate's original vines planted over 200 years ago. Now under the direction of the Amorim family, the estate has seen a resurgence in investment over the past two decades, which has brought their wines up to a next-level quality and garnered the accompanying critical recognition.

This set of new arrivals is highlighted by the 2023 Reserva Terroir Red, a 92-point blend of Douro's most famous red grapes that showcases the classic winemaking and style of this famed region. The estate also hits the collectible sphere with impressive results both white and red. The 2023 Mirabilis Branco is a true field blend, composed of several varietals of very old vines, all co-planted in a handful of small plots. James Suckling and Luis Gutierrez both make Burgundian comparisons to this singular white wine with a "showy, large nose and personality." Finally, don't miss the "exceptional," 97-point 2019 Centenaria Referencia P29/P21. As the name implies, it's crafted from 100-year-old vines, mainly Touriga Nacional. "Wonderfully expressive, the fruit here is special," notes Wine Advocate's Mark Squires, "The wine is seductive rather than astringent. Perfect balance completes the picture here."

With winners in every price point and quality tier, Quinta Nova is a sure bet for long-time Portugal fans and novices alike to explore the unparalleled variety and style of this historic wine region.

90WA

The red 2023 Unoaked is a naked and fruit-driven Douro they have produced since 2005 with 30% Touriga Nacional, 30% Touriga Franca, 20% Tinta Roriz and 20% Tinto Ca~o, the main varieties in their vineyards. It shows the pure and authentic flavor of the place through moderate ripeness, 13.5% alcohol and balancing freshness. Medium-bodied and with fine tannins, it is approachable, agile, easy to drink, clean and very pleasant. It finishes with a bittersweet twist. 220,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in September 2024.

2019 Alban Vineyards Syrah Reva (750ml)
Syrah from Edna Valley, California
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

"John Alban is a pioneer through and through, having spearheaded the Rhône Ranger movement and set into motion what would become some of the Central Coast's most sought-after bottlings." - Wine Advocate

Fans of cult-calber California Rhône wines need no introduction to this iconic estate, as Alban has long been the standard bearer for the pinnacle of what these varietals can achieve in California's Central Coast. A glowing critical track record a mile long points to some of the Golden State's most inimitable bottlings, and John Alban's style is the benchmark by which many other producers judge their own work. As Jeb Dunnuck remarks, "I don't think anyone is doing Rhône varieties better."

Leading off this limited-quantity opportunity, the estate's flagship 2021 Patrina is "a terrific introduction to the wines of this incredible estate" thanks to its "a classic, seamless, incredibly impressive style" according to Dunnuck. Showcasing the estate's world-class single-vineyard Syrahs, the double 98-point 2019 Reva is a showpiece of jaw-dropping class, "breathtaking in youth but certain to develop further complexity," as described by Decanter. Likewise, Dunnuck calls the 99-point 2019 Lorraine "ultra-classic ... a full-bodied, round, velvety textured, utterly seamless Syrah with ripe tannins, a great mid-palate, and a gorgeous finish that keeps you coming back to the glass." Finally, the newly arrived 2020 Seymour's Syrah is "magical stuff ... a heavenly bottle of wine that will most likely merit a triple-digit rating in 4-6 years."

Fans of the estate will once again be over the moon for the latest renditions, but anyone who's a fan of the very best offerings from California should jump at the chance to experience these singular expressions, especially at our razor-sharp, market-leading pricing.

98JD 98D 96WA

Moving to the Syrahs, the 2019 Syrah Reva reveals a much cooler climate-like style in its blackberry, graphite, pepper, and bouquet garni-like nuances, and it picks up an almost Cornas-like game and white pepper character with time in the glass. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has a pure, layered, elegant mouthfeel, ripe yet polished tannins, and a great finish. It reminds me slightly of the 2018, although with slightly less concentration. It will evolve for 20-25 years.

98 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Aug 2023)

Unabashedly powerful yet visceral and alluring, John Alban's Syrah is a benchmark expression of the sun-drenched intensity of the maritime Edna Valley in San Luis Obispo. Smoky, spicy swirls of raspberry preserve, leather and sweet tobacco meld into a palate that's profoundly ripe yet lively and fresh, struck by layers of dusty graphite, ore and iodine. Breathtaking in youth but certain to develop further complexity.

98 points, Anna Lee C. Iijima, Decanter (Feb 2024)

I tasted the 2019 Syrah Reva on July 8, shortly after its bottling in June. The 2019 is particularly elegant, with notable detail and vibrancy. "I've been more curious about the reaction of consumers to the 2019 Reva than I have in a long time," winemaker John Alban explains. "Will they like it? The Reva is very different in 2019." It's a touch aromatically coiled from its recent bottling, taking plenty of time and air to unfold scents of blackcurrants, peppermint patty, charcuterie, coffee beans and brown sugar. The full-bodied palate has a strong spine of refreshing acidity and plush, velvety tannins to balance its depth of flavor, and it offers a beautiful flourish of spice and floral tones that fan across the long finish. It's less ripe and hedonistic than in some vintages yet just as enjoyable! This will be released in the fall of 2023.

"Anyone looking for Oregon Pinot Noir purity and transparent communication of terroir from the soil to the vine to the bottle must explore Kelley Fox Wines." - Eric Guido, Vinous

Long-time B-21 Pinot Noir fans are now well-familiar with the spectacular offerings from this boutique darling of the Willamette Valley scene. With a critical track record to rival pretty much anyone else in the appellation, Kelley Fox is a bona fide star these days, and we're thrilled to have such an established relationship with her and her wines.

This outstanding set of releases showcases exactly why Eric Guido calls Kelley's wines "one of the most exciting portfolios of wines made in the United States." Her elegant vineyard-expressive Pinot Noirs and  energetic Chardonnays are sourced from many of the most iconic vineyard in the Valley. The entire line-up is full of must-try masterpieces, from the 94-point "entry-level" Mirabai to the single-vineyard stunners like the 98-point 2023 Shafer Vineyard and the pair of 2022 standouts from Maresh Vineyard, one of the oldest sites in Oregon. Of these two, it's particularly worth noting that Kelley won't be making wine from Maresh going forward, so get your hands on them now. The whites are equally compelling, and not just the Chards (although these do present some of the sharpest buys in the category, all at under $40). Her Grüner and Pinot Blanc are a testament to her unwavering belief in these varietals, and the critics seem to agree.

Any way you look at it, these are among the most consistently excellent wines out there, not only in Oregon but in the entire country. If you haven't jumped on board the Kelley Fox wagon, you have no idea what you're missing.

92V

The 2024 Grüner Veltliner mixes fresh lime zest with green melon, mint and wild herbs to form its enticing bouquet. Oily textures are offset by a stimulating core of acidity and crisp orchard fruit as a cascade of citrusy spice swirls throughout. Wickedly fresh, it leaves the palate stimulated and watering for more as a sour twang curls the tongue.

"In my mind, and according to my palate for that matter, Jean-Marc Burgaud is the don of Morgon. His wines achieve the highest levels and have an unerring propensity to repay cellaring." - Neal Martin, Vinous

Earlier this year we solidified a domaine-direct relationship with a true Beaujolais icon, and now the "first fruits" of this new relationship have just landed in stock. Dubbed "a winemaker at the peak of his powers" by William Kelley, Jean-Marc Burgaud is unquestionably among the elite in Beaujolais, and his wines are roundly coveted by fans and collectors, yet they remain some of the sharpest QPR buys in all of France.

Over the years, Jean-Marc has undergone quite the transformation in his winemaking technique, resulting in the benchmark expressions we know and love today. He's an ardent proponent of Morgon's exceptional individual terroirs, and his classic, semi-carbonic winemaking aims to express each parcel to its fullest. The highlight of the range, Burgaud's Cote du Py James is his perennial magnum opus, sourced from a parcel at the very top of the appellation's most iconic lieu-dit. "The 2022 Morgon Côte du Py James, succulent and complex, is one of the best showings for the vintage for this famous lieu-dit," notes Wine Advocate. Not as well-known but every bit as compelling is the 2022 Côte du Py Javernieres, a JS95 insider's favorite that isn't often seen in the U.S. market. We're also thrilled to present a trio of Burgaud's newly released 2024s, each one a superb expression of its Morgon terroir and a benchmark example of one the region's greatest winemaking talents.

We'll say it again – we couldn't be more thrilled with this new partnership because our direct access to Jean-Marc's cellars brings the benchmark gems to us at jaw-dropping pricing that you won't see anywhere else.

2024 Domaine Huet Vouvray Clos du Bourg Sec (750ml)

The 2024 Clos du Bourg Sec is an outstanding young wine and probably the finest of these three very good examples of dry Vouvray. Like the Le Mont, this wine comes in at thirteen percent octane, but it is far less bound up behind its structural elements today and offers up a stunning nose of apple, quince, lanolin, beeswax, a superb base of chalky soil and a topnote of white flowers. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep at the core and shares the very elegant impression of the Le Haut Lieu out of the blocks, with even better depth at the core, superb soil signature and grip, lovely acids and a long, precise and beautifully balanced finish. This is a beautiful wine.

94+ points, John Gilman, View From The Cellar (Aug 2025)

A lacy, seductive version, with impressive range to its notes of chamomile, heather, honey water and blanched almond, all atop a crunchy core of quince and nectarine. Its sneaky density builds, electrified by juicy acidity that uplifts the plumpness. The elegant finish is marked by smoke and a cool rush of alpine herbs. Stunning. Drink now through 2040. 700 cases made.

93 points, Kristen Bieler, Wine Spectator (Jul 2025)

More introverted and shy in comparison to Haut-Lieu, the 2024 Vouvray Clos du Bourg Sec wafts from the glass with aromas of grapefruit, confit citrus, lime and spring flowers. Medium- to full-bodied, dense and phenolic, it's slightly austere with a tannic mid-palate that leads to a gently bitter finish. This refined yet structured wine needs some time in the cellar to chill out. Residual sugar: eight grams per liter.

98WA 96D 96JD

In certain vintages, I actually prefer this wine—from 35-year-old vines in Pignan (Nord)—to the La Guigasse. The 2022 Chateauneuf du Pape Le Grand Pin offers up compelling aromas of rose petals, exotic dried spices, cherries and raspberries. It's full-bodied and expansive in the mouth but somehow remains light and airy in feel, finishing with a wonderfully silky texture and awesome length.

96-98 points, Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate (Sep 2023)

Relatively pale in the glass. Pine needles and rosemary, very much a garrigue herb inflected nose. Broad and mouthfilling, generous and juicy, with rich strawberry fruit, ending on a sandy mineral note. Well balanced despite its breadth and warmth. Luxurious, languorous style that will drink well young and old. 100% old vine Grenache grown on sand in lieu-dit Pignan, no destemming, aged for 24 months in old demi-muids. 3,200 bottles made.

96 points, Matt Walls, Decanter (Sep 2023)

The 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape Le Grand Pin looks to be outstanding and brings more richness and depth than normal. Black raspberries, mulberries, sappy garrigue, pepper, and some mineral notes all shine in this beauty, which is medium to full-bodied, has a seamless mouthfeel, and enough tannic structure and acidity to benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age. It's going to be brilliant.

"[Boudignon's] attention to detail in the winemaking process, precise viticulture, dedication and passion for the terroirs mark him as one of France's foremost vignerons and winemakers today." - Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate

Few winemakers have achieved such rapid ascent to cult status in the past two decades as Thibaud Boudignon. Once the long-time winemaker at Domaine de la Soucherie set out on his own, the critical and collectible aficionados took quick notice of his utterly uncompromising style and craftsmanship, and demand has been on an upward trajectory ever since. It's rare to find Boudignon's wines in any meaningful quantity, so tight are the allocations relative to their fanbase, so any time we get a chance at a parcel, especially at jaw-dropping pricing such as this, we jump at it without a second thought.

We just landed a small parcel of the newly released 2023 Clos Fremine, which will undoubtedly rack up future critical acclaim like every previous vintage, while a pair of 97-point renditions of the tête de cuvée Clos de la Hutte demonstrate clearly why Yohan Castaing declares, "[Boudignon] offers wines of purity, tension and finesse with virtually no rivals in Savennières." Showstopping terroir clarity and the potential for decades of cellar evolution put this line-up firmly in the company of France's savviest cellar-worthy white wine buys, but as you might guess, our quantities are very limited, so collectors would be wise to strike quickly at this opportunity.

Matured with 30% new oak, the 2021 Savennières Clos de la Hutte was made with grapes grown in clay topsoil with schists. It exhales a perfumed, precise bouquet with aromas of pineapple, lemon oil, spring flowers and spices. The full-bodied, seamless and layered, crystalline and pure, concentrated and mineral palate has a delicate core of fruit and a tense, saline finish. This pristine wine represents the essence of this great terroir.

97 points, Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate (Jan 2024)

The 2021 Savennières Clos de la Hutte is never the most aromatic, but after a year in bottle, it is starting to reveal a little more of its true self—but only just. It remains a tight cloud of wine that blossoms in the mouth, seamless and round. It possesses excellent texture, substance and richness yet manages it in a not-heavy manner. Nectarine and tangerine fruit flavors linger on the textured finish, which holds the mouth with an assured clasp. This is still not yet ready to drink, but its quality is there to see. It just needs more time to come out from its hiding place; just be a little more patient, if you can.

NV Fallet Dart Les Hauts Clos du Mont Extra Brut (2006) Disgorgement Apr 2023 (750ml)
Sparkling from Champagne, France
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

A new addition to our direct-import program, Fallet-Dart should be better known than they are, and they would be if they weren't located all the way out at the western end of the Marne Valley in Drachy. Their vineyards are exceptional, and their use of extended sur lie aging adds dimension and depth to their wines that we don't often see in this part of Champagne.

"The Eocene offers further proof that Fallet-Dart is an unsung reference-point for late-disgorgement Champagnes of uncompromising class and value." - Andrew Kitz, B-21 Champagne Buyer

Fallet-Dart's Eocene is named for the geologic era that formed the ancient soils of the La Niclotte vineyard. Made entirely from the 2009 vintage, bottled in 2010, and disgorged in March of this year, the Eocene is every bit the classic late-disgorgement expression. The ripeness of the vintage and the 20% Pinot Noir component give the wine its world-class depth of fruit, but the vineyard's soils and the light dosage (only 2g/L) endow it with absolutely shimmering vinous intensity and mineral vibrance. The lifted, high-toned flavor and aroma profiles offer a fascinating counterpoint to the Clos du Mont's more mature and evolved character (even though this wine spent fifteen years on the lees itself!). Who knew that we'd have to go all the way out to the western end of the Marne Valley to find one of the most compelling Champagnes we've come across in a long time? Hyperbole? Maybe. But once you dive into the specs on the Fallet-Dart Les Hauts Clos du Mont, you'll see where we're coming from.

"...a flat-out stunning new addition to our direct-import stable, and arguably the savviest collectible Champagne buy we've brought on board in a long time." - Andrew Kitz, B-21 Champagne Buyer

Fallet-Dart's prized vineyard, from which this wine comes, sits on a bend of the Marne River with perfect southeast exposition, having been under vine for over a thousand years. The Les Hauts Clos du Mont hails entirely from the now-legendary 2006 vintage and is a masterclass in oak vinification and sur lie aging. As indicated on the label, it was bottled in 2007 and has spent nearly 17 years on the lees! A wine of "head-spinning complexity" as Andrew describes it, this is luxury Champagne at its best, at a price that defies all market conditions and factors. As Andrew succinctly puts it, "If you're a fan of Bollinger's RD, set that one aside and buy three bottles of this for the same price – you won't be disappointed."

Avid collectors and Champagne fans should have no shortage of fun comparing these two benchmark beauties in the years to come.

96AK

Bottled as non-vintage but in reality composed entirely of the epic 2006 vintage, Fallet-Dart’s single-vineyard Les Hauts Clos du Mont is a flat-out stunning new addition to our direct-import stable, and arguably the savviest collectible Champagne buy we’ve brought on board in a long time. Located in the far-flung village of Drachy in the western Marne Valley, the site itself has been under vine for a millennium, first cultivated by the local monks (who always knew best, of course). Again, it’s 2006 vintage, bottled in 2007 (as indicated on the label), so we’re talking 17 or so years on the lees. The nose leads with super concentrated citrus and austere minerality, but it quickly opens up in enormous fashion with head-spinning complexity. Dense apple, pear, and white cherry framed by tons of deep, toasty autolytic character – biscuits, peach pie, and apricot cobbler – followed by exotic notes of candied jasmine and lychee. The palate defies logic between its highly evolved vinosity and flat-out mind-blowing freshness, given the age and sur lie duration. Perfect, bracing acidity and ultra-fine, elegant mousse segue into an emergent, mid-palate richness that offers up flavors of baked apple pie, choux pastry, elderflower liqueur, more white cherry, and wet river stones. I’ve had three vintages of this wine now from my own personal collection (2004, 2005, and now 2006), and this one takes an already astounding profile to the next level. If you’re a fan of Bollinger’s RD, set that one aside and buy three bottles of this for the same price – you won’t be disappointed.

Notes of baked apple, pear, spices and white fruits preface the 2022 Vouvray Clos du Bourg Moelleux Première Trie, a medium- to full-bodied, concentrated and layered sweet wine. A fine phenolic structure elegantly frames it, and the wine concludes with a fresh, telluric and seemingly endless finish. Long, precise and seamless, this is a standout cuvée and one of the highlights of the vintage at this storied address. Residual sugar: 105 grams per liter.

97 points, Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate (Oct 2025)

As there is no straight Moelleux from the Clos du Bourg this year, I have to assume that there was a bit more botrytis in this vineyard than in the le Haut Lieu or le Mont, and hence why everything sweeter here was made into the Moelleux 1ère Trie bottling. The bouquet is absolutely gorgeous, offering up a more deeply-pitched and glazed blend of yellow plum, fresh apricot, gently-candied quince, honeycomb, heather, lovely soil tones, orange blossoms and a touch of citrus peel in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and beautifully balanced, with a superb core of fruit, a nice touch of soil, fine focus and a long, complex and boundless finish. This is still a puppy, but in due course, it is going to be simply magical juice.

96 points, John Gilman, View From The Cellar (Aug 2023)

Just 650 bottles of the 2022 Clos du Bourg Premiere Trie Moelleux were made, and it is sweet, gentle and round. It fills the mouth with its sweet caress, exuding pure flavors of toffee apple, caramelized pear and pineapple. While sweet, it is less unctuous than you'd expect from many sweet wines from warmer sites due to the climate and soils, bringing a sense of cleanness and fine texture on the finish. That said, the lower acidity of this year means it's not quite as long and linear. A recent bottle of 2003 with similarly low acidity aged well, so I expect the same here. (105g/L)

"Château Léoville Las Cases is one of the greatest and most consistent estates of Bordeaux..."

- William Kelley, Wine Advocate

Here's a rare opportunity to secure a trove of all-time great library vintages from the legendary Château Léoville Las-Cases, long considered 'first among the Super-Seconds' of Bordeaux with a reputation for First Growth quality. Now offered at best-in-market pricing, these monumental classics will evolve for decades to come, some already aged 40 years in pristine cellar conditions, all garnering 95-point ratings or higher, including multiple 100-point trophies.

Bordering First Growth Latour on the northern end of St-Julien overlooking the Gironde and managed by the Delon family since the late 19th century, the 98 hectares of Las Cases vineyards are planted in a single block encompassing a mosaic of terroirs, surrounded by walls known as the Grand Clos. In other words, it's the ideal terroir for producing immortal claret. Leading with the timeless classicism of the 1990, this vertical comprises the very pinnacle of Las Cases in the modern era. The most coveted vintages of the 21st century, including perfect renditions from 2010, 2016, and 2018, highlight the undeniable greatness of the estate's contemporary track record.

These are all outstanding choices that stand tall next to their First Growth neighbor at a fraction of the price, offering the perfect opportunity to take any world-class collection to the next level. Echoing a sports analogy, the Léoville-Las Cases bench is deep, and with only homerun hitters in the rotation, any and all of them are guaranteed to knock it out of the park.

A classic in development, a wine that will last for decades. It is certainly powerful, but already the shape is finalized, with its plums and berries settling down with perfumes, acidity, just enough tannins and a warm, welcoming richness. A great argument for the superiority of 2001 over 2000.

The 2001 Léoville Las Cases is simply stunning. I was fully prepared to decant it given that Las Cases is almost always a brute in its youth. And make no mistake about it, a twenty year-old Las Cases is still a youngster. Quite frankly, I am not at all prepared for the sheer intensity and richness that emanates from the glass. No decanting needed. The 2001 is simply magnificent upon opening. A rush of generous inky blackberry jam, spice, graphite and leather conveys superb textural intensity. Time in the glass helps the aromatics come alive. Shockingly rich and voluptuous, the 2001 is also wonderfully open today. Uncharacteristically so for Las Cases, in fact. But who’s complaining? Certainly not me. Even so, the 2001 is ultimately a mid-weight Las Cases, with plenty of opulent fruit, but not quite the tannic heft that is such a signature of this reference-point St. Julien. Readers lucky enough to own the 2001 are in for a real treat. This is an especially fine bottle, perhaps the finest I have come across. Aside from all the technical analyses and descriptors, what really matters most is that the 2001 is a wine that delivers immense drinking pleasure. I absolutely loved it.

96 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Aug 2021)

A very typical Las Cases with a Pauillac note, even though it’s St.-Julien. Lead pencil, dried herb, currant and black olive. Medium-to full-bodied, firm and creamy with a long finish. It’s very persistent. Pretty austerity. Be sure to decant this a couple of hours in advance. Drink or hold.

The 2019 Léoville Las Cases is a brilliant young wine that will delight Bordeaux purists. Unwinding in the glass with scents of cassis, dark berries, cigar wrapper and pencil shavings, it's full-bodied, layered and tightly wound, with a deep core of fruit, lively acids and an abundance of rich, powdery tannins. Concentrated and serious, much like its immediate neighbor Château Latour, it is likely to emerge as one of the vintage's longest lived—and greatest—wines.

98 points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate (Apr 2022)

Remarkably sleek and pure, considering the generally burly and obvious tannic profile of the vintage. Delivers a pure and unadulterated beam of cassis and plum reduction flavors inlaid seamlessly with a glistening iron girder that seems to have no end point through the finish, where violet, anise and black tea notes shimmer. Reserved overall, with a beautiful austerity, this is an example of how great terroir always shines through—even in extreme years. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2030 through 2050.

98 points, James Molesworth, Wine Spectator (Mar 2022)

Currants and blackberries with crushed stones, bark and some conifer and pine cone. Perfumed. Discreet. Medium-to full-bodied with an integrated tannin structure that’s full of fine tannins that are weightless and seamless, building on the palate and coming out at the end. Needs five or six years to open. Texture of heavy silk. 79% cabernet sauvignon, 11% merlot and 10% cabernet franc. Try after 2027.

98 points, James Suckling (Mar 2022)

Composed of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, and 10% Cabernet Franc, the 2019 Leoville Las Cases is deep garnet-purple colored. It needs a lot of swirling to unlock expressive notes of crushed blackcurrants, warm plums, and black cherry compote, with nuances of roses, cinnamon toast, tapenade, and cedar chest, plus a hint of iron ore. Full-bodied, firm and grainy, it is built like a brick house, so muscular and finely layered with wonderful energy and a very long, minerally finish.

98 points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Independent (May 2022)

More backward, deep, and layered, the Grand Vin 2019 Château Léoville Las Cases is 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc that saw 90% new French oak. Just awesome aromatics of pure crème de cassis, graphite, tobacco leaf, burning embers, and gravelly earth all soar from the glass. This is followed by a quintessential Léoville Las Cases that's medium to full-bodied, pure, concentrated, and regal on the palate, with beautiful tannins. The purity of fruit is spot on, it's flawlessly balanced, and it’s going to age for decades. While it offers pleasure today, I'd wager it will take 10-15 years to hit maturity and will be a 50+ year wine.

97+ points, Jeb Dunnuck (Apr 2022)

The 2019 Léoville–Las Cases, bottled July 2021, retains the energetic, vivacious bouquet that I noticed last year from the barrel sample, offering intense blackberry, bilberry and still those faint shucked oyster shell scents in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with wonderful detail and precision, a mixture of black and blue fruit and enthralling clarity and length. Perhaps there is a little more creaminess in terms of texture toward the finish, a bit of "baby fat" that will be subsumed with time, so give this 8–10 years in bottle if you want to taste it in full flight. [Returning after 15 or 20 minutes, I discerned more pepperiness on the finish, and perhaps also less creaminess and more structure.] 14.02% alcohol.

Also a youthful dark ruby/magenta color, the 2021 Barbaresco Albesani reveals impressive depth in its layered notes of preserved red cherries, cedar, dusty earth, potpourri, roses, and raspberries. It’s medium-bodied but expands on the palate with a velvety texture and offers ripe tannins, seamless acidity, and wonderful length. It’s a very impressive and detailed wine to drink over the next 20 years.

95 points, Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck (May 2024)

This powerful red boasts cherry, strawberry, rose, earth, tar and underbrush aromas and flavors. The savory notes emerge as this builds to a long, solidly built finish. Shows excellent harmony, texture and staying power, with a minty finish. Best from 2029 through 2048. 330 cases made, 100 cases imported.

95 points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator (Mar 2025)

Bright and fresh with notes of red berries, dried rose hips and asphalt. Medium-bodied. It has a meaty structure with very fine tannins and bright acidity. Shows tension and focus. Spicy at the end. Try after 2026.

95 points, James Suckling (Apr 2024)

In the bottle with the cream-colored label, the Massolino 2021 Barbaresco Albesani shows redcurrant and tart berry aromas. It also has a hint of something metallic with rusty nail or tin can. The wine reveals a fluid personality with a few exciting aromatic changes along the way. That versatility bodes well for its future evolution. This is a 4,000-bottle release.

94+ points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate (Jan 2025)

The 2021 Barbaresco Albesani is a super-classic wine that is going to need time to come around. It possesses notable structure and the understated depth that is common of Barbaresco. Time in the glass brings out scents of herbs, white pepper, autumn leaves and spice. All this needs is time in bottle.

94 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Jan 2024)

Firm and structured, this wine boasts dark ripe fruits that draw the attention as aromas of blue violets lead deeper into the glass. Juicy dark cherries flavors form the core of the palate as drying blackberries, and hints of plum weave across the firm and tannic palate that is lifted by mouthwatering acidity. Elegant and savory flavors offer a respite from the richness of the fruit on the finish. Drink from 2026

2022 Passing Time Walla Walla Cabernet Sauvignon (750ml)
Cabernet Sauvignon from Walla Walla, Washington State
B-21 Top Recommendation

"Passing Time is a serious contender in the fine wine scene of Washington State ... I’ll certainly keep my eye on how this project progresses." - Eric Guido, Vinous

Today's offer is a special one for our Florida family. While you may or may not have heard of Passing Time, a thrilling new player in boutique Washington Cabernet that's making huge waves in the critical press, you no doubt know the founder, legendary Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino. Working with acclaimed winemaker Chris Peterson from several of the state's most prized vineyards (including Champoux, Klipsun, and Wallula), this project is quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with. Having recently tasted the entire range of 2022s ourselves, we can wholeheartedly stand behind the raft of monster scores and impressive accolades that follow these wines.

Starting off, the JD94 Red Blend is "an impressive wine at any price point but offers outstanding value" at our sub-$60 price. However, it's the appellation-specific bottlings that truly steal the show, each one a quintessential representation of its origins. The "impeccably structured and detailed" 2022 Red Mountain Cabernet is arguably the cream of the crop (but we're really just splitting hairs, as they're all so compelling). It positively "vibrates with energetic red and black fruit flavors, supported by fine-grained tannins and a lively line, finishing long and shimmery," according to Lisa Perrotti-Brown. If you after something that reminds you "a touch of Château Montrose in Saint-Estèphe," don't miss the Horse Heaven Hills Cab. This double 97-point Left Bank lookalike is perfectly poised to cruise for decades in the cellar. Finally, the double 97-point Walla Walla Cabernet draws from two iconic sites, Seven Hills and Pepper Bridge, to deliver "a rock-solid structure of firm, grainy tannins and bold freshness to match the vivacious, muscular black fruit, finishing long and fragrant."

It's rare to find a range in which each wine showcases such stunning class and sophistication in its own particular way, but Passing Time is well on the way to distinguishing itself as one of the most exciting new names in collectible Cabernet, and you'll be thrilled to have any and all of these standout performers in your cellar for decades to come, especially at our unbeatable market-best pricing.

The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Walla Walla Valley is from sites that are a touch cooler than Red Mountain, a truth that shows in its energetic red fruit and lightness of spice, characteristics complemented by compelling elements of tobacco and leather saddle. Sourced from Seven Hills and Pepper Bridge, the wine has an iron fist of broad tannins that should mellow with time and provide an intensity of structure now. The full-bodied power is balanced by underlying acidity and an uplift of velvety mouthfeel. Don’t miss out on this brilliant wine. Drink 2025-2037.

97 points, Virginie Boone, Jeb Dunnuck (Jul 2025)

The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Walla Walla Valley is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep garnet-purple in color, it needs a lot of swirling to bring out notes of freshly crushed blackcurrants, just-picked blackberries, and cassis, plus nuances of red roses, powdered cinnamon, and tree bark. The full-bodied palate delivers a rock-solid structure of firm, grainy tannins and bold freshness to match the vivacious, muscular black fruit, finishing long and fragrant.

97 points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Independent (Mar 2025)

Pretty aromas of violets, cedar chest drawers, thyme and intensely sweet black-and-blueberries are joined by a saline and iron note similar to tasting blood when you bite your lip. Bright acidity and silky tannins prop up full-bodied flavors like black cherries, dark roasted Indonesian coffee and dark chocolate. This is a wine to be savored over several hours with good conversation.

2019 Quinta Nova Vinha Centenaria Referencia P29/P21 Red (750ml)
Touriga Nacional from Douro, Portugal
B-21 Top Recommendation

97WA 95WE

The 2019 Vinha Centenária Referência P29/P21 is predominantly Touriga Nacional (75%) with the rest a field blend from centenarian vines that have a certain emphasis on Donzelinho Tinto (about 8% of the 80 some varieties). It was all aged for 12 months in new French oak and comes in at 14.4% alcohol. Wonderfully expressive, the fruit here is special, dripping with blue fruit nuances and well supported by structure. The wine is seductive rather than astringent. Perfect balance completes the picture here. This and the Roriz in this report are both exceptional. Pick your favorite. We will see which one wins in the end. There were 3,500 bottles produced. This will be released in the fall.

97 points, Mark Squires, Wine Advocate (Jul 2022)

A wine from two parcels, one of Touriga Nacional, the other from a field blend, this is impressively rich and dense. With a year in new wood, the wine is powerful, with juicy blackberry fruits and solid tannins, all suggesting it needs further aging. Drink from 2025.

Four Pillars Olive Leaf Gin (750ml)
From Victoria, Australia
B-21 Top Recommendation

"These inventive yet classic gins appeal to a broad range of tastes and applications. It's no wonder Four Pillars has become the brightest star in the craft gin scene." - Andrew Kitz, B-21 Spirits Buyer

In a relatively short time frame, Four Pillars has made a huge splash in the craft gin world, developing a devoted following not only in their Australian homeland but here in the U.S. as well. In fact, they're widely considered the finest gin distillery in the world, and to prove it, they sport three Best Gin Distillery crowns from the International Wine and Spirits Competition since 2019. After all, gin is all they do, so they put everything they have into the art with stunning results.

Starting with the finest locally sourced Australian grain, the team at Four Pillars produces a remarkably pure spirit that lends itself to a huge variety of botanicals and thus to an incredibly imaginative range of experimental styles. As a result, they've turned out some absolutely stunning expressions that are like nothing else in the category.

The Fresh Yuzu is perhaps the best example of this experimental wizardry. The key ingredient is, of course, fresh yuzu fruit grown in Australia. But the team then gives it its proper due by adding various botanicals that are often paired with yuzu in cuisine – ginger, sencha genmaicha, turmeric, juniper berry, and coriander to name just a few. The profile is centered on citrus, but the other elements are so well-defined that it doesn't stray a single step from a proper gin character of the highest order.

Taking things to the savory end of the spectrum, the equally innovative Olive Leaf is a true stroke of genius. As the name suggests, it's steeped with olive leaves and olive oil from the famed Cobram Estate in Yarra Valley, along with numerous companions like rosemary, bay leaf, macadamia nuts, and grapefruit. As an antidote to citrusy gins, it's your new go-to for next-level martinis or G&Ts. No matter your preference, both of these artfully crafted, best-in-class expressions are sure to become staples on your bar.

93BTI 92WE

Clear color. Inviting aromas and flavors of mango-sultana spice cake, BBQ sweet potato chip, rosemary herb muffin, and sappy pine and wax with a silky, bright, dryish medium body and a smooth, interesting, medium-long finish with accents of vanilla banana milk and pound cake with juniper jam. A delightful Gin that will play nicely neat and in cocktails.

93 points, Beverage Testing Institute (Mar 2021)

A cool, lightly mentholated whiff leads into a savory palate featuring rosemary, fleeting green olive, a hint of saline and a zippy juniper finish. Made as an antidote to citrusy gins, the producer says, this gin is made in the Yarra Valley from Australian olive leaf and olive oil. Producer recommends for Gibsons.

"This is an extraordinary vintage that will go down in record books as one of the all-time greats." - Jeb Dunnuck

When Bordeaux's 2022 vintage premiered three years ago, there was some uncertainty as to how the wines would play out from such a hot, dry growing season, one which surely promised wines of massive power, ripeness, and weight. Would it be too much of a good thing?

As it appeared then, and as it has turned out now that the wines are releasing to market, it's an extraordinary campaign among the best of the century. As Dunnuck observes, "Now that the wines are in bottles, it’s clear they have fully lived up to the early hype—and not just at the high end. The 2022s are deep, layered, and concentrated while staying beautifully balanced, light on their feet, and elegant."

Today's selection presents an incredible treasure trove that showcases the vintage's greatest features at every price in the spectrum, leaving no doubt as to how good 2022 Bordeaux really is.

99JD 98JS 97JA 97D

The 2022 Château Lynch-Bages is based on 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, and 3% each of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Its inky purple hue is followed by a sensational Pauillac that has a blockbuster (and classic Lynch-Bages) style in its darker currants, smoke tobacco, lead pencil, and crushed stone-driven aromatics. These carry to a full-bodied, powerful, massively concentrated 2022 that has a dense, layered mid-palate, velvety tannins, flawless balance, and a rare mix of power and elegance. This is a château that’s clearly firing on all cylinders, and this magical beauty will need a decade (or more) to hit the early stages of its prime drinking window. Don't miss it!

99 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Feb 2025)

A terrific Lynch from a hot vintage with blackcurrants, mint, dried lavender, graphite and thyme on the nose and palate. Medium- to full-bodied, it shows fantastic tannins with a lovely texture that reminds me of cashmere, becoming slightly chewy in the finish. Give this four to five years of bottle age. Try after 2028.

98 points, James Suckling (Jan 2025)

Exceptional, liquorice, slate, graphite, pumice stone tannins and a salt scrape on the finish that is key to balancing out this ripe full bodied Lynch. Great stuff, with ageing potential in spades. High alcohol for a Pauillac no question, but this walks the line with grace. 75% new oak for ageing, Nicolas Labenne winemaker.

97 points, Jane Anson (Mar 2025)

Ripe and generous on the palate, this is chewy, crunchy and alive. Ripe fruit is there - chewy and sweet black currants and cherries - fleshy and filling - as is concentration of flavours, but there's a delicate layering of elements which builds the wine on the palate giving power but also focus and precision. Still feels a little shy, with tension there in the funnelling of flavours and a relatively crisp finish but this will elongate in time. Cool blueberries, wet stones, pencil lead and graphite give the mineral touches. No overt heat, oak or spice which also is excellent. One for the long haul. Built with ageing in mind I think.

2012 Chateau Leoville Poyferre (750ml)
Cabernet Sauvignon from Saint-Julien, Bordeaux, France

Sourced from over 80 hectares of estate vineyards in some of St. Julien's best terroir, these exceptional vintages from Chateau Leoville-Poyferre boast Cabernet's Sauvignon's expressive dark fruit with elegant textured minerality and smooth, silky tannins, all luxurious, balanced Left Bank Bordeaux blends earning 94 plus point ratings and delivered ex-Chateau in perfect provenance at impressive value pricing.

While dating back to 1638, Chateau Leoville-Poyferre's modern renaissance began in 1979, when Didier Cuvelier became the first member of his family to take charge of the estate after studying winemaking under the legendary Emile Peynaud. Implementing an extensive renovation of the vineyards with massive replanting and nearly doubling the estate's holdings, Didier hired renowned consultant Michel Rolland to manage the harvest and refine the final blend, shifting the estate's emphasis to Cabernet Sauvignon and crafting the Grand Vin in a richer, more opulent style by harvesting later to ensure even ripening.

Revisiting it at a retrospective tasting in 2021, James Suckling describes the full-bodied 100 pt. 2009 Leoville-Poyferre as "A red that gives wonderful pleasure now but will continue to do so for decades ahead." Vinous critic Antonio Galloni calls the 95 pt. 2014 Leoville-Poyferre "Gorgeous" and "Super impressive" while Jeb Dunnuck describes the 97 pt. 2015 Leoville-Poyferre as an "unctuous, ripe, pedal-to-the-metal beauty." Dunnuck calls the 98 pt. 2016 Leoville-Poyferre a "brilliantly concentrated, full-bodied, opulent beast of a wine," while the Wine Advocate's Lisa Perrotti-Brown describes it as "simply alive in the mouth, culminating in an epically long finish that will leave your mouth practically tingling. WOW!" James Suckling calls the "serious" 95 pt. 2017 Leoville-Poyferre "one of the best of the appellation" while the Wine Enthusiast's Roger Voss named both the 2017 and 2018 Cellar Selections built for the long haul. Finally, the "legendary" 100 pt. 2018 Leoville-Poyferre is a "a total thrill that tops my scale" according to critic Jeb Dunnuck while Antonio Galloni declares the perfect 2018 "dazzles from start to finish," earning it the #7 spot on the Wine Spectator Top 100 Wines of 2021.

All poised to reward Bordeaux lovers for decades to come, these perfectly cellared, top releases from Second Growth Chateau Leoville-Poyferre delivers powerfully concentrated fruit of exceptional depth and length with rich, ripe tannins, now offered at specially negotiated pricing, some ready to enjoy and all set to evolve in the cellar. After a recent retrospective tasting over the last two decades, Vinous critic Neal Martin summed it up: "Leoville-Poyferre has really taken flight" often "challenging the First Growths" and now offered in perfect condition at a fraction of the price.

94JD 94JS 94JA 94WI 92WA 92V

One of the more stacked, ripe and rockingly textured wines from the left bank, the 2012 Léoville Poyferré sports a deep ruby/purple color to go with terrific notes of crème de cassis, graphite, lead pencil shavings and violets. Rich, full-bodied, supple and forward, with low acidity and ripe tannin, give bottles 4-5 years (although it dishes out ample pleasure even today) and enjoy through 2037.

94 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Jan 2018)

Really beautiful now with blackcurrant, licorice and red-berry aromas, following through to a full body with layers of fine tannins and a beautiful finish. It’s really starting to drink nicely . Drink or hold.

94 points, James Suckling (Mar 2021)

Less elegant than the 2011, but also less austere, there is plenty of get hold of here, with evident depth to the black cherry, blackberry fruits overlaid with chocolate shavings, brioche and liqourice. Sums up muchof what i love about this property - it has a kick and a sense of great cheer, along with the slate texture, tannic hold and balance of St Julien. No need to wait to drink although will age from here. Harvest October 8 to 19. 80% new oak.

94 points, Jane Anson (Sep 2021)

The 2012 Leoville Poyferre is medium to deep garnet colored. It features notes of cassis, blackberry preserves, and prunes with touches of fallen leaves, cedar chest, lavender, and pencil lead. Medium-bodied, the palate is firm and grainy, with plenty of black fruit preserves in the mid-palate and a long finish with loads of mineral sparks. It needs time!

94 points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Independent (Aug 2022)

Owned by the Cuvelier family since 1920, this property over the last 20 years has made some great wines in the Médoc. The 2012, a blend of 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot and 4% Cabernet Franc, is opaque purple, thick-looking, and from bottle much more impressive than it was from barrel. This very extracted, rich, full-bodied, masculine Léoville Poyferré needs a good 5-8 years of bottle age and should evolve well for at least 20-25 years. Loads of blackberry and cassis, crushed rock and graphite notes are present in this medium to full-bodied, impressively concentrated and pure wine. Forget it for a while, as this is one of the bigger, richer Médocs.

92+ points, Robert M. Parker, Jr., Wine Advocate (Issue # 218 - Apr 2015)

The 2012 Léoville-Poyferré has quite an atypical strict bouquet with blackberry, melted tar, graphite and crushed stone aromas. This opens very nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy notes on the entry, fairly saline with good tension, superb backbone and density on the finish. This is very promising, but it may require more bottle age just to smooth out its edges. Tasted twice at Bordeaux Index's Ten Year-On tasting and blind at the Southwold Ten-Year On tasting.

2022 Jean-Marc Burgaud Morgon Cote du Py Javernieres (750ml)
Gamay from Morgon, Beaujolais, France
B-21 Top Recommendation

This oak-aged Morgon is still very young and needs some time in bottle to open up, but everything is there on the very well-structured medium- to full-bodied palate. Excellent energy at the long finish. Tons of savory, toasty and forest floor complexity right through the long, polished finish. From the foot of the Cote du Py site. Matured in 10-year-old barrels. Drinkable now, but best from 2025.

Signatory 2013 Linkwood 11yr 2nd Fill Oloroso Sherry Butt Single Malt Scotch
From Pitlochry, Highlands, Scotland
B-21 Top Recommendation

"If you’re a fan of Linkwood, you’ll love this take on the distillery’s hallmark style." - Andrew Kitz, B-21 Spirits Buyer

The Speyside faithful go head over heels for Linkwood, but finding a top-quality example on the market is always a stroke of luck. Just 2% of the distillery's production is bottled on its own, with the vast majority of the production playing a crucial part in Diageo's flagship blends like Johnnie Walker. That would partially explain why we see a heavy interest in our offers on this distillery in particular. There's simply nothing else like Linkwood.

While our previous versions were either in ex-bourbon or brand new hogshead, our latest cask from independent stalwart Signatory gets back to the sherried Linkwood style that many fans are most familiar with. This 11-year-old gem is a second-fill oloroso butt, an ideal accompaniment to the Linkwood profile, as those who've had it from a first-fill butt know that this type of cask can sometimes overpower the malt's signature character. Instead, this one offers an aromatic profile that perfectly displays "the tension between the whisky and the butt, with characteristics of both showing up in real harmony," as Andrew notes. Surprisingly round and textured for a young whisky, it's "extremely well balanced with no heat or rough edges whatsoever, fanning out in broad, even waves across the entire palate." For fans of Speyside, Linkwood specifically, or just any great single malt of individual character, this cask is a bona fide winner and an easy choice at our razor-sharp price.

Linkwood has a devoted following at the moment, and it’s easy to see why. The distillery’s signature style lends itself so well to a variety of barrel treatments without ever losing its core identity. We’ve seen it in new hogshead, ex-bourbon cask, and now in this second-fill oloroso butt from Signatory, and it seems to shine in a particular fashion each time, while always remaining true Linkwood juice. Tight and youthful at first, the nose on this one opens into salty Speyside sea breeze and subtle nutty sherry notes – the barrel influence is there but stays in check all the way. Bruised apple, black raisins, marzipan, melon rind, new leather, sesame seed cracker, and coconut macaroons give you an idea of the tension between the whisky and the butt, with characteristics of both showing up in real harmony. This cask is the richest, roundest Linkwood we’ve seen so far, full on entry and well through the mid-palate. The persistent weight and viscosity support flavors of salted marcona almonds, kalamata brine, dark prunes, and anisette cookies. New leather and a wasabi-like punch come out on the medium-long, mentholated finish. For all its weight, the whisky is extremely well balanced with no heat or rough edges whatsoever, fanning out in broad, even waves across the entire palate. If you’re a fan of Linkwood, you’ll love this take on the distillery’s hallmark style.

5 Sentidos Sierra Negra Mezcal (750ml)
From Oaxaca, Mexico
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

If you're a mezcal fan or collector and you haven't jumped on board with Cinco Sentidos yet, you're missing out on some of the most compelling, artfully crafted offerings in the category. The brainchild of American Jason Cox, the project began as a collection of house mezcals selected for his upstart Oaxaca restaurant El Destilado. This transplant with an insatiable thirst for artisan agave spirits spent countless hours and miles traversing Oaxaca and its surrounding environs, scouting out the best artisan mezcal producers no one had yet heard of. We're talking true family operations that run on sweat and calloused hands and that produce stunningly complex, singular expressions you won't find anywhere else. Today, the Cinco Sentidos range offers a dizzying array of options and styles, and the two on offer here are just a glimpse of the full spectrum, but once you get a hold of them, you'll find yourself diving into the deep end.

The Arroqueño from Pédro Hernandez is a masterpiece of clay-pot distillation, "a pure, handcrafted beauty and a reference-point for its style and varietal." This huge agave species is rarely cultivated due to its extremely long maturation period of 20+ years, so it's somewhat of a unicorn on the mezcal scene, and in the hands of a true maestro like Tio Pédro, it reaches its apex.

The Sierra Negra is equally singular, both in terms of rarity and character. Maestro Alberto Martinez knocks it out of the park with this rare agave species in an expression that communicates its origins like only the very finest mezcals can. As B-21 Spirits Buyer Andrew Kitz writes, "It’s arguably the most distinctive expression in the Cinco Sentidos line ... Any chance you have to get your hands on it, jump at it and don’t think twice."

If you're already familiar with Cinco Sentidos, you'll no doubt want to add these gems to your shelf at home, and if you haven't discovered them yet, this pair is the perfect introduction to the top-tier craftsmanship that goes into all of Jason Cox's selections.

The Sierra Negra is another stunning representation of the mezcal ancestrale style from maestro Alberto Martinez and his son-in-law Reynaldo. Working at high altitude, they use nitrogen-rich tepehuaje (a local tree bark) and spring water to stabilize the fermentations in the cold temperatures, before distilling in traditional clay pots. Initial aromas of sweet agave are accented by citrus oil, faint smoke, and vegetal undertones. The mineral base is incredibly fine and precise, redolent of the stony, volcanic soils of the region. Secondary notes of toasted sesame seed, parsnip, burnt orange peel, and cookie dough eventually meld into a heady, complex chaparral profile – if you’ve ever slept under the stars in the high desert, this is what you smell as the sun sets, temperatures drop, and the breeze kicks up. The medium-full weight of the palate is, again, very volcanic at its core, with flavors of tart citrus pith and asphalt backed by firm textural grip and a touch of heat. With air, it takes on a complex herbal edge with juniper, mint, and sage leading to an extremely long, salty finish. It’s arguably the most distinctive expression in the Cinco Sentidos line. The only thing I don’t love about this mezcal is how little of it is typically available. Any chance you have to get your hands on it, jump at it and don’t think twice.

The 2022 Pinot Blanc Freedom Hill Vineyard, matured in used French oak, has singular aromas of crushed apples, cereal, honey and alpine herbs. The medium-bodied palate pairs mouth-coating, honeyed flavors with mouthwatering acidity, and a touch of textural grip drives a long, floral finish. You can drink it now or let it develop savory complexity in bottle over the next 5-7 years. 259 cases were made.

The 2022 Pinot Blanc Freedom Hill Vineyard opens with a rich and spicy blend of crushed stone, dried apricots and mint. Soft, silky textures soothe, filling the palate with masses of mineral-tinged orchard fruits and savory spice. It tapers off with a saline character and dramatically long, leaving lingering hints of lemon oil and raw almond.

100JD 99WA 99JS

Pure magic and one of the finest expressions of this estate I could imagine, as well as a perfect wine, the 2018 Château Léoville Las Cases comes from a mix of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, and 9% Cabernet Franc that spent 19 months in (I believe) all new French oak. Its dense purple color is followed by a profound wine loaded with notions of crème de cassis, lead pencil shavings, melon, crushed stone, tobacco, and violets. Full-bodied, concentrated, and massive on the palate, yet also incredibly well delineated and precise, it has a wonderful mix of seemingly ripe, sunny fruit from a warm year yet the minerality, purity, and precision of a cooler year. This wine is going to be just about immortal; however, do your best to hide bottles for a solid 10-15 years.

100 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Mar 2021)

The 2018 Léoville Las Cases is composed of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc and 9% Merlot, harvested September 15 to October 4 with yields of 35.5 hectoliters per hectare, it has 14.49% alcohol and was aged in 90% new barriques. Deep purple-black colored, it needs a fair bit of coaxing to reveal striking scents of blackcurrant pastilles, wild blueberries and redcurrant jelly, giving way to notions of crushed rocks, lavender, Indian spices, unsmoked cigars and black truffles, plus a provocative waft of rose oil. The full-bodied palate is densely laden with black fruit preserves and earthy layers, accented by bright, lively red berry and floral sparks. It has a rock-solid frame of firm, ripe, grainy tannins and bold freshness, finishing very long and wonderfully minerally. The tannins are so beautifully approachable even at this youthful stage, making it delicious to drink now, but afford it 5-6 years in bottle to allow those finer nuances to emerge and drink it over the next 40+ years.

99 points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate (Mar 2021)

An elegant, complex nose of blackberries, blueberries and herbal and spice notes with dark-chocolate and earthy undertones. Violets, flowers and graphite, too. It’s full-bodied with firm, layered tannins and a crushed-stone undertone throughout the fresh, velvety and layered palate. Very complex, muscular and formed. The finish is endless. Lowest percentage of press wine ever in this. So deep. Try after 2027.
