I hadn’t used B21 previously. They had a particular gin we don’t have locally. They did a great job communicating about my order, packed the bottles securely, and allowed a drop‑ship so I didn’t have to worry about being home to sign for it. Overall, a great experience!

2020 San Vicente (750ml)
Tempranillo from Rioja, Spain
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

San Vicente is as unconventional a project as you'll find in Rioja. When the Eguren family ripped up their vineyard in the early 1980s and replanted it with a massale selection of clones from their lowest-yielding vines, the consternation and ridicule came from all corners of the region. But he who laughs last laughs best, and now the Eguren family's efforts have been totally vindicated, as the wine is coveted Rioja collector's treasure year in and year out.

"A nuanced, modern Rioja, this wine is a masterpiece of Marcos Eguren's winemaking technique—a truly elegant Tempranillo."- Joaquin Hidalgo, Vinous

At its debut one of the first single-cru bottlings that Rioja had ever seen, San Vicente has changed the region's dynamics over the past few decades, with numerous producers now following the Eguren family's lead and going for a site-specifi, terroir-driven approach to their wines. A true original and still one of the best, San Vicente has once again stunned critics left and right in the 2020 vintage, a "pure, clean, incredibly impressive Rioja" per Jeb Dunnuck's 96-point review, one of a pair along side that of Vinous' Joaquin Hidalgo. The wine's refined, modern style and impeccable class have garnered the San Vicente a devoted following that will no doubt go head over heels for this latest expression, especially at our unmatched private client price that beats the rest of the market by a wide margin.

96V 96JD 94JS

If there is a wine that embodies the terroir-driven focus since the 1990s, it's San Vicente. The 2020 San Vicente is 100% Tempranillo Peludo, distinguished by its velvety leaves. Sourced from the San Vicente vineyard in the Canoca Valley, San Vicente de la Sonsierra, it aged for 20 months in French (90%) and American (10%) oak barrels. This purplish wine offers ripe black fruit aromas and wild herb notes against an oak backdrop. Dry, juicy and taut, the light and fine-grained tannins linger long. A nuanced, modern Rioja, this wine is a masterpiece of Marcos Eguren's winemaking technique—a truly elegant Tempranillo.

96 points, Joaquín Hidalgo, Vinous (Apr 2024)

Coming all from a massale selection of Tempranillo (Peludo Tempranillo) and aged 20 months in new barrique, the 2020 San Vicente is deep purple-hued and reveals a beautiful nose of cassis and assorted darker, almost blue fruits supported by classy oak, graphite, and crushed stone-like minerality. It's beautifully concentrated, medium to full-bodied, has fine tannins, and a great finish. This pure, clean, incredibly impressive Rioja will benefit from 3-4 years of bottle age and evolve for two decades.

96 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Jul 2024)

A plush, complex Rioja with powdery tannins that coat the palate nicely. Deep nose with lots of blackberries, Mexican chocolate, iodine and fine spices. Excellent quality and quantity of tannins that melt away with the ripe but fresh fruit. Very long and tight but really silky. Drink or hold.

2023 Domaine Raymond Usseglio Chateauneuf du Pape Pure Roussanne (750ml)
Roussanne from Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Rhône, France
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

"Stephan Usseglio has propelled this certified organic and biodynamic estate, named for his father, to among the top ranks of the region." - Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate

The name Usseglio is no secret to lovers of top-flight Châteauneuf-du-Pape, but it's typically PIerre that comes to mind for many. However, that's all changing in recent years, as Domaine Raymond Usseglio is stepping into the limelight under the hand of the highly talented Stephan Usseglio. Having been in charge here since 1999 at the ripe age of 22, Stephan straddles that wonderful line between youthful vision, something he's held onto even as his career has entered a new stage of accomplishment and accolades, and respect for his family's traditions, including their exceptional vine holdings.

The 2022 reds from Usseglio offer a crystal clear picture of a domaine firing on all cylinders and moving up in the quality heirarchy to the very top echelons, highlighted by the JS95 Cuvée Girard, a "dark and powerful" rendition that "makes a bold statement." Taking Grenache purity to the next level is the 2022 Cuvée Imperiale. "With ultra-fine tannins, flawless overall balance, and a great finish," notes Jeb Dunnuck, "it's a gem in the vintage." Finally, fans and collectors should not overlook the absolutely pristine 2023 Pure Roussanne, a 97-point tour de force that is everything as advertised - pure Roussanne varietal character that shows this revered white Rhône varietal in all its glory.

This in-stock trio is further proof that the domaine should be on any serious Rhône enthusiasts short list, as these expressions are some of the most polished and artfully crafted offerings you'll find in the region.

97JD 96JS

It's great to taste the 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape Pure Roussanne beside the Pure Clairette. You get a real sense of the difference in these two varieties, with the Clairette providing a more focused, mineral-laced style and the Roussanne showing more richness and breadth. Medium gold-hued, with a powerful nose of honeyed orchard fruits, flower oil, orange blossom, and exotic spices, this beauty hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a deep, layered mouthfeel, integrated acidity, and a great finish. While Clairette is the shiny new toy for Rhône lovers out there, this shows that readers shouldn't skimp on seeking out the more Roussanne-dominated cuvées.

97 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Oct 2024)

This rich dry white Chateauneuf has tremendous textural complexity and a wealth of Asian pear, melon and ripe citrus character on the full-bodied palate. Terrific concentration and drive on the long, very focused palate. From biodynamically grown grapes. Fermented and matured in demi-muids and Stockinger foudres. Drink or hold.

2019 Mayacamas Cabernet Sauvingon (750ml)
Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa, California
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

"...the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is clearly on another level ... This stunning bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon will drink nicely over the coming 30 years or more." - Jeb Dunnuck

The historic Mayacamas estate has been a definitive exponent of Mount Veeder Cabernet for decades, and rising star winemaker Braiden Albrecht, along with Napa icon Andy Erickson consulting, has done a masterful job of expressing the estate's signature terroir and style, no matter the vintage conditions. As a result, few wines in Napa rack up such consistent accolades year after year, and the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is a prime example.

The vintage is known for producing ripe, bombastic Cabernets, and the 2019 Mayacamas certainly shows shades of that character, but the familiar classicism that has made it a household name among collectors of the finest Napa cellar gems is all still readily apparent. "Loaded with character and energy" and "showing an old-school touch" according to Wine Spectator, the 97-point 2019 is a showstopper par excellence. Antonio Galloni notes, "the 2019 is shaping up to be majestic." As many of its peers in the cult Napa space have absolutely sky-rocketed in price, Mayacamas remains a relative collectible steal considering the wine's stunning quality, critical acclaim, and formidable cellar potential.

97V 96WI 96JD 96WS

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is a pretty rich, bombastic wine, especially for Mayacamas. A blast of dark fruit, incense, tobacco, licorice, spice and mocha hits the palate. I would give the 2019 at least a few years in bottle to settle down, as it is quite the powerhouse today. This is an unusually flamboyant wine with plenty of richness and a bit less in the way of subtlety. The opulence of the vintage comes through loud and clear.

97 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Feb 2023)

Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon erupts from the glass with a gorgeous perfume of blueberry compote, boysenberry preserves, and warm cassis leading to nuances of lavender, tar, tapenade, and fragrant soil. The medium to full-bodied palate is tightly wound with vibrant black fruit and savory nuances framed by very firm grainy tannins, finishing long with a minerally lift.

96+ points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Independent (Jul 2024)

Moving to the current releases, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is clearly on another level. Cassis, violets, spring flowers, and graphite, as well as a beautiful sense of minerality, all emerge on the nose, and it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, fine, polished tannins, fabulous balance, and a great finish. This stunning bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon will drink nicely over the coming 30 years or more.

96 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Dec 2023)

Loaded with character and energy, this version reveals heavy notes of zesty sweet bay leaf and sassafras that infuse a core of steeped red currant and mulberry fruit, all carried by bright acidity and iron-laced tannins. The long finish pulls everything together, with the fruit, savory and mineral elements in harmony. Showing an old-school touch, this has a long life ahead. Best from 2025 through 2045. 4,000 cases made.

2022 Patz & Hall Chardonnay Dutton Ranch (750ml)
Chardonnay from Russian River, California
B-21 Top Recommendation

Ripe, succulent ... generous and juicy ...The intensity persists on the finish." - Wine Spectator

Since its founding in 1988, Patz & Hall has done as much as any other producer to define Sonoma's modern wine scene, from expressive appellation bottlings to flat-out superb single-vineyard gems from the region's most storied and coveted sites.

One of the greatest features of the appellation bottlings is that they comprise many of those same incredible vineyard sites that form the top end of the range, which goes a long way in explaining the outstanding, 93-point 2022 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay. Sourced from six blocks of the famed Dutton ranch and augmented by fruit from such illustrious locales as Durell, Zio Tony, Gap's Crown, and Parmalee-Hill, the 2022 displays all the hallmark features of the ultra-classic Sonoma profile – big, vibrant fruit, soaring aromatics, scintillating tension, and exceptional balance, all at a price that makes it one of the most versatile offerings in its category. Equally impressive and maybe more so, the 96-point 2021 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir stands as one of the sharpest buys in Cali Pinot in our entire inventory, with a "Textbook vintage and AVA profile" that landed it a spot on last year's Wine Spectator Top 100 list.

Our long-time California fans are by now well familiar with the benchmark quality and character of Patz & Hall's wines, and this pair delivers everything you've come to love from a true Sonoma icon.

93WE 92JD

This floral and tropical Chardonnay brings a nose of pineapple, sage and white flower aromas, while the palate delivers energetic lemon peel, pear and nectarine flavors. The finish lingers with echoes of cinnamon, ginger and lemon blossom.

93 points, Tom R. Capo, Wine Enthusiast (Jul 2025)

Moving to the single-vineyard wines, the 2022 Chardonnay Dutton Ranch is a straw/yellow color and is more intense on the nose, with aromas of toasted spices, honeycomb, grilled pineapple, and lemon oils. The palate is generous and full-bodied, with its intensity continuing through a sustained and citrus-noted finish. A ripe but well-detailed wine that offers a more immediate feel, it will likely show its best over the coming 4-6 years.

2021 Vina Almaviva EPU (750ml)
Cabernet Sauvignon from Puente Alto, Chile
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

Crafted from the same vineyard as Chile's iconic 100-point Viña Almaviva, the WA94+ 2021 Almaviva Epu is a deliciously approachable and age-worthy second wine from Chile's legendary producer of powerful Cabernet Sauvignon blends.

First produced in 2018 from the same terroir although usually higher in Cabernet and lower in Carmeñere than Almaviva, the Epu is sourced from the estate's 60-hectare vineyard planted mainly to Cabernet Sauvignon in layers of loamy clay, gravel, and rocks on the left bank of the Maipo River at 650 meters above sea level. Fed by a high-tech, underground drip irrigation system that delivers the precise amount of water required, the vineyard's warm, dry climate is moderated by cooling breezes sweeping down from the towering Andes that preserve freshness and enhance even ripening, the unique terroir contributing a signature earthy minerality to the wines. Described by Vinous critic Joaquim Hidalgo as the "French perfectionist" who is key to Almaviva's bright and nuanced style, winemaker Michel Friou blended 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Carmeñere and 5% Merlot from the vineyard's younger vines and aged the muscular 2021 Epu in 10% new and 90% second-use French oak for 12 months, yielding fresh, luscious dark fruit hinting of peppery spice with a luxurious texture and smooth, harmonious tannins promising to reward time in the cellar with over a decade of evolution.

"An excellent Epu," according to Jane Anson, the 2021 expresses the exceptional Almaviva terroir in an approachable, enticing style, ready to enjoy over the next decade at an incredible value.

94WA 94JS 93V 92WS 92JA

Their second wine, the 2021 Epu is from the same terroir and vineyard in Puente Alto as Almaviva but comes from the younger vines, around 12 years on average. In 2021, the blend is 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Carmenere and 5% Merlot (no Cabernet Franc this year). It has a ripe and heady nose, with 14.68% alcohol (15% on the label), mellow acidity and intense notes of red peppers, ripe blackberries and cassis and some spiciness from the oak. It matured for one year in French barriques, only 10% new and 90% second use. It has a little less structure and softer tannins, making it more approachable than previous years, a profile that seems to be the signature of the year. It's medium to full-bodied with velvety, more polished tannins, and it is more delicate and less concentrated, with more finesse. But I find these quite homogeneous and regular, this year with no raisins or dehydrated grapes, and in this vintage, it feels open and expressive. 80,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in January 2023.

94+ points, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate (Aug 2023)

Fresh and subtle nose with cassis, lead pencil and some red chili peppers. A hint of lavender and cedar. This is quite supple on the palate with a medium body and silky, soft tannins. Pretty generous and flattering. 80% cabernet sauvignon, 15% carmenere and 5% merlot. Drink now.

94 points, Zekun Shuai, James Suckling (Apr 2023)

The 2021 Epu is a Bordeaux blend based on Cabernet Sauvignon from Puente Alto in the Metropolitan region. It was aged in barrels for a year. Garnet with a purple sheen. The nuanced nose unfolds over an oak bed with ashes, pepper, cassis, and green pepper notes. Indulgent and rich on the palate, the fine-grained tannins and the juicy and overwhelming mouthfeel lead to an ample and flavorful ripe finish. The Chilean Cab style, powerful and bold, guides this red.

93 points, Joaquín Hidalgo, Vinous (Jun 2023)

Balances elegant details of dried violets and fresh berries in a rather muscular package, with a rich core of blackberry and cassis, offering enough acidity to keep things fresh and lengthen the finish around fine tannins and notes of chocolate. Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère and Merlot. Drink now through 2033. 5,000 cases made, 500 cases imported.

92 points, Aaron Romano, Wine Spectator (Feb 2024)

A far more balanced and enticing aromatic frame than the concentrated 2020 vintage, this is an excellent Epu, with pomegranate and redcurrant fruits, laced with white pepper and gentle waves of fresh acidities, along with the more gourmet notes of vanilla bean and sandalwood that are signature to this wine. Sappy, easy to love, and the tannins have a sleek quality that shows confidence. Winemaker Michel Friou.

2023 Vasse Felix Filius Chardonnay (750ml)
Chardonnay from Margaret River, Western Australia, Australia
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

Margaret River on the west coast of Australia has arguably been the most dynamic region Down Under for at least the past decade, and the pioneering Vasse Felix estate has been at the forefront of this emergence since its founding in the late 1960s.From collectible trophies on down to the entry-level end of the spectrum, this estate has been "one of the region's standard bearers" according to Wine Advocate's Joe Czerwinski. it's that entry-level, quality-to-price charm that makes this pair on offer today such compelling propositions for any fan of Cabernet and Chardonnay value, no matter where it's from.

The 2021 Filius Cabernet is already a proven best seller at B-21, having notched 93 points from Wine Spectator as well as the #2 spot on their annual Top 10 Wine Values list in 2023. "Stunning and complex, [a] stylish, concentrated red," the 2021 offers a quintessential Margaret River signature on top of pure Cabernet character that stands up to any expression in its price tier. If Chardonnay is your go-to white, then you can also add the 2023 Filius to your rotation. "Bright and expressive with plenty of precision," it more than earns its 94-point score from Wine Enthusiast, and with a sub-$20, case-buy price, it might just earn the top spot at all your summer get togethers.

94WE 93WS 92JS

With the most upfront fruit in the Vasse Chard trio, Filius is immediately comforting in a favorite T-shirt kind of way, with bright, fleshy lime and peach blossom, a flicker of nougat and something stony, a bit salty. It flows seamlessly to a palate of mouth-watering acidity that balances the toasty oak and malolactic influences.

94 points, Christina Pickard, Wine Enthusiast (Jul 2024)

Bright and expressive, with plenty of precision to the detailed notes of lemon sherbet, lemongrass, pear, lemon verbena, white pepper and green apple. Hints of tangerine, lemon oil and tarragon linger on a juicy frame. Drink now. 13,000 cases made, 450 cases imported.

93 points, MaryAnn Worobiec, Wine Spectator (Mar 2024)

The nose is fruit-driven, with generous aromas of peaches, white nectarines and orange blossoms. The palate is medium-bodied with focused acidity, giving notes of lemon pith, pink grapefruit and flint. Very refined and polished, being a classic style of Margaret River chardonnay. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

2022 Domaine Alary Cairanne la Brunote (750ml)
Grenache from Côtes du Rhône, Rhône, France
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

Savvy bargain hunters are by now well aware of the stellar quality for price to be found in the relatively new Cairanne appellation. Since its promotion to full cru status, the region has captured the attention of Southern Rhône insiders, and it's Domaine Alary leading the way.

Father and son Denis and Jean-Etienne Alary are renowned for their track record of consistent excellence, and the flagship Estevenas Rouge defines the domaine's style and reputation in the market. The 94-96 point 2022 rendition "features stunning aromas ... Full-bodied, creamy and lush on the palate, it finishes long and silky" according to Wine Advocate's Joe Czerwinski, the Syrah-dominant blend benefitting from some of the oldest Syrah vines in the Southern Rhône. The 2022 La Brunote is a prime example of the Alarys' wide-ranging repertoire and skill set. The 92-94WA, Mourvèdre-based blend excels in the warm vintage, especially at our market-best price. "Full-bodied and richly concentrated, it's almost creamy in texture, with a lingering finish. Yum," declares Czerwinski.

To get a true feel for the elite position Alary occupies in Cairanne, don't miss the Jean de Verde bottlings. The WA94 Jean de Verde Blanc is "silky in texture, with a long, elegant finish—a stunning white from Southern Rhône," while the 2022 Jean de Verde Rouge continues this cuvée's track record as a benchmark Cairanne collectible. Garnering a whopping 95-97 points as a potential best-ever effort from Denis and Jean-Etienne, it's "amazingly complex on the nose ... [with] wonderful harmony. It's full-bodied and rich, concentrated and velvety, with a long, zesty finish."

In short, you'll be hard pressed to find a better bang for your buck in the southern Rhone. Alary is back at B-21 in a big way, with 2022s that set the pace for the appellation and offer world-class value.

A prospective blend of 50% Mourvèdre, 30% Grenache and 20% Carignan, the 2022 Cairanne la Brunote offers up notions of black truffles, black cherries and black licorice. Full-bodied and richly concentrated, it's almost creamy in texture, with a lingering finish. Yum.

A dazzling selection from the exceptional northern Italian producer "who put Friuli on the map" according to Antonio Galloni of Vinous, these top rated Schiopetto selections are crafted as unique and transparent expressions of their northern Italian terroir, providing an opportunity for anyone seeking to explore the exceptional range of white wines from the Collio region as well as two high scoring red cuvees at outstanding pricing.

Dark and powerful, this makes a bold statement on the full-bodied palate, but unlike so many 2022 Chateauneufs it doesn't edge in the rich and creamy direction. It has a cornucopia of black fruit, black olive and tar aromas. Major tannins, but they are very fine and give the finish energy and drive as well as structure. A cuvee based on old-vine grenache with syrah, mourvedre and counoise from biodynamically grown grapes. Matured almost exclusively in concrete tanks. Drink or hold.

95 points, Stuart Pigott, James Suckling (Apr 2024)

The 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Girard is also terrific. A partially destemmed blend of 90% Grenache, 6% Mourvèdre, and the rest a mix of varieties, it has savory darker cherry fruits, some peppery garrigue, smoke, and meaty nuances, medium body, a ripe, round, seamless mouthfeel, and outstanding length. Brought up mostly in concrete tanks, it’s going to evolve nicely over the coming decade.

93 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Oct 2024)

Prominent strawberry, licorice, garrigue and a dash of white pepper frame the medium- to full-bodied 2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Girard. Offering great energy and focus, the 2022 shows absolutely no rough edges and finishes rather savory. The blend this year is 85% Grenache, 8% Mourvèdre and 7% Syrah. Tasted twice with consistent notes.

2022 Michelini i Mufatto MA Godello (750ml)
Godello from Bierzo, Spain
B-21 Top Recommendation

Andrea Mufatto and Gerardo Michelini are fashioning some of the brightest boutique gems in the Argentine wine scene, and since they branched out to Spain's Bierzo region a few years back, they've made quite the mark there too, as evidenced by a mountain of consistent, glowing acclaim from Wine Advocate's Luis Gutierrez, as well as 2024 Winemaker of the Year honors from Tim Atkin, MW.

After introducing our customers to their spectacular, critically acclaimed trio of Bierzo reds, made from old-vine Mencia, we were thrilled to learn they also make an equally compelling, single-vineyard white from old-vine Godello, which has already caught the attention of the critical press to the tune of 96 points from Vinous and 93 points from Wine Advocate. The Paraje la Mata vineyard's 80-year-old, head-trained vines are planted in a mix of slate and quartz soils, imbuing the wine with tensile balance, while the north-facing aspect keeps the ripeness in check, crucial in a warm vintage like 2022. Aged in barrel for an extra winter, the 2022 MA's profile is "tense, delicate, and medium-bodied," according to Vinous.

The Spanish white wine scene is full of spectacular, hidden-gem overachievers like this, if you know where to look. And fortunately, we were able to secure a jaw-dropping price that brings this utterly charming, singular expression to you for under $30, so all you have to do is make room in the cellar.

The 2022 Godello MA hails from Paraje La Mata, Villa Libre de la Jurisdicción, Bierzo. It aged for two winters and was certified organic in the winery. Golden yellow in hue, the 2022's oak-driven profile shows hazelnut, mushroom, peach, caramel and brûléed sugar notes. Developed through aging, it is tense, delicate and medium-bodied. Velvety oak shapes a fine, compact palate with a long finish.

2020 Bodegas Muga Seleccion Especial (750ml)
Tempranillo from Rioja, Spain
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

Bodegas Muga's status as an all-time Rioja reference-point is reaffirmed with this sterling foursome of releases that we just secured at razor-sharp pricing. Leading off we have a Prado Enea for the ages.

"The expressive, complex and nuanced 2016 Prado Enea Gran Reserva is a textbook traditional Rioja in the making ... with all the components in the right proportion to age superbly in bottle." - Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate

Muga's flagship bottling is always a coveted item, and this WA97+ rendition is already showing legendary pedigree that will thrill collectors and connoisseurs of Spain's finest. A universally lauded expression of this classic Rioja Gran Reserva, the 2016 boasts towering press including no fewer than four 97-point scores, putting it in rarified air among the greatest vintages of this Spanish icon in the 21st century. "A brilliant wine with a solid two decades of prime drinking ahead of it" per Jeb Dunnuck, this is collectible Rioja class at its very best, and it's now available to our private clients at a must-see price that you won't find anywhere else.

The Selección Especial Reserva is always a crowd and collectible favorite in the range and always priced well for a broad audience yet offering the kind of cellar-worthy appeal that serious collectors are looking for. The 2020 rendtion ramps up the collectible appeal thanks to a particular feature of the vintage itself – no Prado Enea was made in 2020, so all the fruit and juice that would normally comprise that flagship icon has instead gone into the Selección Especial. So, it's no surprise that the 2020 picks up right where the 2019 leaves off, led by Jeb Dunnuck's 95-point review that highlights its "medium to full-bodied richness, a round, layered mouthfeel, and silky tannins," which makes it "already hard to resist."

Finally, the newly released 2021 Reserva Rioja is one of the sharpest values in Spanish wine, "a textbook example of [Muga's] style in a very good year, with power, concentration and clout, elegance and freshness" perGutiérrez' 94-point review in Wine Advocate. It's a perfect candidate to stack by the case, since it will not only cruise for several years in the cellar, but it will quench your thirst for Muga excellence anytime over the next decade while the you wait for the big boys to reach their prime drinking windows. For fans of Spanish wine and of Rioja in particular, this is a spectacular opportunity to load up on proven performers that will put many smiles on your face for countless years to come, at market-best pricing.

From a slightly more challenging year for the region, the 2020 Muga Selección Especial checks in as 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha, and the rest Graciano and Mazuelo that's aged six months in new French barrique, followed by two full years in older French and American (70/30) oak barriques. Rocking levels of cassis and black raspberry-like fruit as well as graphite, spicy wood, violets, and lead pencil notes all shine on the nose, and it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a round, layered mouthfeel, and silky tannins. It's already hard to resist.

95 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Jul 2024)

Mint, blackberries, cocoa powder, graphite, black pepper and roasted dark spices. Full-bodied and juicy, with lots of tannins that are quite sinewy and fine-grained. Really long. Needs at least two more years to come around. Tempranillo, garnacha, mazuelo and graciano. Drink after 2026.

94 points, Zekun Shuai, James Suckling (Aug 2024)

Hints of smoke, dark chocolate and loamy earth underscore a rich core of ripe black plum and mulberry fruit, with rose hip, iron and macchia notes. This is tightly meshed and fresh, opening nicely in the glass and showing good tension and chalky tannins on the well-spiced finish. Enjoy this today, but it should really shine with a little cellaring. Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano. Best from 2026 through 2034. 20,000 cases made, 6,000 cases imported.

2023 Domaine Alary Cairanne L'Estevenas Blanc (750ml)
Clairette from Côtes du Rhône, Rhône, France
B-21 Top Recommendation

The 2023 Cairanne L'Estevenas Blanc is very clean and pure, offering a kiss of minerality, sliced apple, orange blossom, and floral notes. Medium-bodied, focused, and balanced with integrated acidity, this terrific even split of Clairette and Roussanne was aged eight months in stainless steel and oak barrels. Drink bottles over the coming 3-5 years.

2023 Domaine Sebastien Dampt Chablis Les Vaillons 1er Cru (750ml)
Chardonnay from Chablis, Burgundy, France
B-21 Top Recommendation

We've been working with the wines of Sébastien Dampt for a few vintages now, and the scion of one of Chablis' most prominent winemakers has found a strong following among our long-time Burgundy aficionados. After all, Sébastien is a staunch adherent to the "no oak" style, à la Louis Michel, and his wines reflect the kind of terroir purity that fetches a high premium from hardcore fans of classic, "old school" Chablis.

These newly arrived 2023s are clearly reflective of Dampt's style, starting with the 92-point 2023 Vaillons 1er Cru. "Very disciplined though still with the generosity of the vintage," the 2023 is understated when it needs to be while giving up just the right level of approachability to be enjoyable right out of the gate. The Cote de Lechet likewise shows its 1er cru pedigree in spades, with "excellent volume and richness to the succulent and sappy middle weight flavors" as described by Burghound's Allen Meadows. Finally, the village level Chablis stands as an unbeatable value in its category, an "easy-going effort" with "cool and pretty aromas ... textured, even succulent, medium-bodied flavors."

Working directly with the domaine, we were able to source this parcel at a by-far market-best pricing, so our private clients can jump on these true exponents of pure Chablis terroir for a downright steal.

All comes from Beugnons, planted in 1959 and 1962. Possibly the palest but clearly the most concentrated in bouquet. 2009 Chateau Lynch-Bages (750ml)
Cabernet Sauvignon from Pauillac, Bordeaux, France
B-21 Top Recommendation

Lynch-Bages is pure magic in 2019....A towering Pauillac, the 2019 Lynch Bages will make a great addition to any cellar…Don't miss it.

Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Savvy Bordeaux collectors won't need convincing – the thrilling 100pt. 2019 Chateau Lynch-Bages continues this estate's epic run of exceptional quality, elegantly balancing concentrated lush dark fruit with grippy, mouth-coating tannins on "an extremely persistent, almost Lafite-like finish" according to Inside Bordeaux's Jane Anson who declares it "a great Lynch-Bages of the modern era," offered at an equally spectacular value and delivered ex-Chateau in original wooden cases of six.

Owned by the Cazes family for nearly a century, visitors to Chateau Lynch-Bages encounter an almost fairytale-like village complete with a Michelin-starred restaurant and luxury hotel, its stunning new contemporary winemaking facility designed by noted architects and sons of the masterful architect I.M. Pei, creator of the once controversial glass Louvre pyramid in Paris. Spanning 100 hectares planted mostly to Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller parcels of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the vineyards are located on a range of terroirs across Pauillac, from close to the Chateau on the gravelly Bages plateau to bordering St. Julien next to Chateau Pichon Lalande, the estate's vines for the Grand Vin averaging 30 years of age with some as old as 60 years. Under the direction of fourth generation Jean-Charles Cazes, the powerful 2019 Chateau Lynch-Bages was aged for 18 months in 75% new French oak, revealing intense, dark Cabernet aromatics described as "gorgeous from the start" by the Wine Spectator's James Molesworth, embodying the hedonistic Lynch-Bages style with a core of fresh opulent fruit layered over rich, ripe tannins that according to Decanter's Georgina Hindle give "no doubt that this is going to age slowly and for many decades."

98WI 96WA 96WS #93 Top 100 96WE 96JS

Powerful, rich, tannins that are chewy and physical in the mouth. Liquourice bud, turmeric root, cloves, rose stems, with tight blackcurrant and softer blackberry fruits. The muscular structure of the appellation and the concentration of Lynch Bages add a more serious side to the generosity of the 2009 vintage, and together they make something very special. This is begining to open up, with plenty more to give. 70% new oak.

98 points, Jane Anson (Apr 2022)

The medium to deep garnet colored 2009 Lynch Bages is boldly scented of crème de cassis, blackberry pie and baked plums with chocolate box, incense and underbrush suggestions plus a waft of bay leaves. Medium to full-bodied, taut and well sustained in the mouth, it has a firm, grainy texture and a lively backbone lifting the black fruit core to a nice long finish.

96 points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate (Mar 2019)

Tight and backward, this has dense, almost chewy layers of fig, currant and plum cake behind a very solid wall of cedar, roasted vanilla and charcoal notes. There's serious grip on the finish, with an iron edge that won't quit. Best from 2015 through 2035. 31,500 cases made.

96 points, James Molesworth, Wine Spectator (Mar 2012)

#93 - Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2012

A dense, immense, solidly powerful wine. The ripest fruit overflows, paralleling the dark, solid tannins. As so often, Lynch-Bages is a blockbuster, dark and concentrated, with immense aging potential.

96 points, Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast (Feb 2012)

A powerful and ripe wine with a wide-screen personality, this makes a very bold statement without becoming a jot heavy. Serious tannins at the long finish suggest this has long-term aging potential. Drink now with a big steak or hold. (Horizontal Tasting, London, 2019)

"There's no doubt about it – this Maker's cask is tailor-made for pure pleasure."

- Andrew Kitz, B-21 Spirits Buyer

It's every bourbon geek's dream to design their own personal perfect dram, and Maker's Mark gives us that chance with their Private Select program. The process is fairly simple, but the possibilities are almost endless. First, we choose a barrel of Maker's classic cask-strength juice, then we select a combination of ten finishing staves from five distinct types to impart a custom profile that's one of a kind – that's 1,001 possible finishing recipes to choose from. For this particular cask, we went with one Baked American Pure, one Seared French Cuvée, four Maker's Mark 46, and four Roasted French Mendiant, and we couldn't more thrilled with the result. As advertised, the Grandma's Graham Cracker Crust barrel is an ode to all your favorite dessert pies, with unabashed decadence at the center of everything. "So smooth and approachable," as B-21 spirits buyer Andrew Kitz notes, this 108.7 proof beauty hits the sweet spot (literally and figuratively) in its robust yet balanced profile that offers just the right level of hedonism and opulence to appeal to a huge audience of bourbon lovers. With such a stupendous result on our first go, we're already thinking about what new showstopper we can come up with next.

93AK

There’s selecting single casks and there’s building single casks, and the folks at Maker’s Mark offer us a can’t-miss opportunity to do the latter with their Private Select program. For those not familiar, Maker’s uses five different types of finishing staves in their single cask program, selected in combinations of ten by the client. If you struggled with permutations in math class like I did, I’ll give you the answer – that’s 1,001 possible finishing recipes to choose from. For this particular cask, we went with one Baked American Pure, one Seared French Cuvee, four Maker’s Mark 46, and four Roasted French Mendiant (sorry, Toasted French Spice fans, we left that one out). We also left no mystery with the name of the cask either, as Grandma’s Graham Cracker Crust is exactly what you get. Even though it’s bottled at 54.35% ABV, this cask is so smooth and approachable, with no discernable heat on the nose and just a nice warming edge to the finish. Graham cracker crust leads on the nose (obviously), along with all the best fillings – deep red fruits, rhubarb, and raspberry cheesecake. The round, rich, and viscous palate is every bit as opulent as the nose, with initial flavors of … you guessed it, graham cracker crust, now with pecan pie filling. Clove, cinnamon, and nutmeg are extremely well integrated throughout, balanced by a charming faint honey note. With air, the nose takes on additional complexity in the form of sweet tobacco, orange zest, chocolate ganache, and red licorice, while the palate shows some of that same citrus as sweet navel oranges, plus a touch of vanilla bean for good measure. There’s no doubt about it – this Maker’s cask is tailor-made for pure pleasure.

Pinot Noir from Willamette, Oregon

"The team [at Lingua Franca] led by winemaker Thomas Savre is producing a portfolio of wines that show the power and complexity possible to obtain in Oregon." - Eric Guido, Vinous

Renowned for crafting top-scoring Burgundy for his family's Côte-de-Beaune estate, master winemaker Dominique Lafon worked as a consultant to Oregon's Evening Land Vineyards before collaborating with master sommelier and Evening Land general manager Larry Stone to co-found Lingua Franca in Willamette Valley's Eola-Amity Hills in 2015. Lafon's expertise at crafting exceptional Burgundy was credited with driving Evening Land's rising reputation early on. Purchasing the 140-acre Janzen Farm, a prime parcel situated next to Evening Land's Seven Springs site and adjacent to Domaine Serene's Jerusalem Hill Vineyard, Stone and Lafon then worked with renowned Willamette viticulturist Mimi Casteel to determine the precise mix of clones to plant based on the site's varied soils, utilizing organic and biodynamic viticulture throughout the estate's 66-acre vineyard and hiring Evening Land's former assistant winemaker and Lafon protege Thomas Savre to craft its vineyard-driven wines. Boasting experience at legendary Burgundy estates including Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, Domaine Dujac, and Maison Nicolas Potel, Savre employs a transparent, minimal-intervention approach in the cellar, resulting in wines that now boast an impressive track record of world-class quality and glowing acclaim from the critical press. The 2022 vintage continues this upward trajectory in spades, showing why Lingua Franca remains one of Oregon's most exciting producers.

The 2022 Pinot Noir Estate saw 20% whole clusters and 20% new oak. A representation of the vineyard, the blend can vary from year to year. A few thousand cases were produced.

The 2022 Pinot Noir Estate lifts from the glass with a flower shop bouquet complicated by incense, crushed stones and lavender-laced blackberries. This is soothingly round with cool-toned red berry fruits and tactile mineral tones elevated by brisk acidity. Inner violet and rose tones resonate through the long and potent finale as the 2022 finishes gently tannic and spicy.

93 points, Eric Guido, Vinous (Aug 2024)

Fleshy and blue-fruited, this Estate Pinot Noir comes from an array of blocks in the Lingua Franca estate sites. Smoky violets and turned earth leap forth with savoury notes of raspberry leaf and a mineral tone of wet cement. "This is great Mâconnais chardonnay!" - John Gilman, View From the Cellar

B-21 Burgundy fans are well familiar with Pascal Bonhomme's Vire-Clesse Vieilles Vignes, making it an undisputed best-seller in the category over several vintages, but as happens from time to time, the wine fell off our radar for a few vintages. Recently, we went back to the importer to get a look at the newly arrived 2023 rendition, and we were thrilled (but not surprised) to find that it's better than ever.

Bonhomme sources this wine from his oldest parcels, now approaching 70 years in age, so it exudes a quintessential combination of concentrated aromatics and flavors, along with "all of the vibrancy and freshness inherent in this lovely vintage" as Gilman notes. Our own Burgundy buyer Andrew Kitz also found the 2023 to be "a statement in grace and elegance ... [with] super-fine limestone minerality, fantastic balance and textural precision, medium weight, and excellent definition." Bonhomme's style is the classic white Burgundy profile that captures something for everyone. Nothing is ever overdone or lacking, so no matter what your tastes, you'll find plenty to love in this latest expression from a proven B-21 winner.

93AK 93JG

Bonhomme’s wines have historically been gangbusters best-sellers at B-21, but it’s been a few vintages since we checked in, and with the way the 2023 Vieilles Vignes is showing, I’d say we’re back on board in a big way. Sourced from Bonhomme’s oldest parcels approaching 70 years of age, the 2023 is a statement in grace and elegance. The aromatic profile is subtle and nuanced, starting with soft yellow fruits like white peach and nectarine, eventually giving way to citrus blossom and well-integrated barrel tones, all supported by a great underlying limestone signature. After aeration, vibrant tree fruits emerge with subtle touches of spice, while the minerality becomes more prominent and remains so throughout. It boasts serious poise that you don’t often find at this price point, which carries over on the palate in the form of super-fine limestone minerality, fantastic balance and textural precision, medium weight, and excellent definition. The stone fruit flavors are front and center all the way. Notes of apricot and white peach mingle with luxurious but balanced tones of lemon confit and citrus custard. With time, the minerality becomes more prominent as the excellent structural tension draws the finish out. It’s a classic expression for fans of the domaine or anyone looking for a proven white Burgundy winner for a steal.

The 2023 Viré-Clessé “Vieilles Vignes” bottling from Domaine Pascal Bonhomme is nicely ripe, coming in at 13.5 percent octane, but exuding all of the vibrancy and freshness inherent in this lovely vintage. The nose hops from the glass in a mix of apple, pear, chalky minerality, almond, fruit blossoms, a deft framing of vanillin oak and a topnote of orange zest. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, focused and vibrant, with a gorgeous core of fruit, lovely soil signature, an excellent girdle of acidity and a long, complex and impeccably balanced finish. 2021 Albino Rocca Barbaresco (750ml)
Nebbiolo from Barbaresco, Piedmont, Italy
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

"I was deeply impressed with the 2021 Barbarescos at Albino Rocca. The wines are aromatic, vibrant and bristling with site character ... More than anything else, these wines are defined by superb purity." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

For four generations, the Rocca family has been producing stupendous Barbarescos from several of the region's most prized holdings. The late Angelo Rocca had propelled the estate to prominence over the past few decades, and his untimely death left a huge void in the Barbaresco landscape, but his three daughters have admirably carried on his visionary winemaking and track record, which is on full display in this duo of 2021s.

The fun starts with the appellation Barbaresco that notched 94 points from Wine Advocate's Monica Larner, who dubbed it "a big surprise ... fresh and bright, showing enormous focus and purity," but the real showstopper is a single-cru masterpiece that checks every box. Ronchi is the family's most historic and important cru, with some vines approaching 75 years old. The southeast exposure and marl limestone soils, resulting in a "vivid, sculpted Barbareso [that] is hugely promising," according to Galloni.

These are unequivocally wines of superior class and sophistication that Piedmont enthusiasts will want to own in quantity, but they're also quite limited. This parcel is all we're going to get at pre-tariff pricing, so the time to load up is now.

94WA 93WS 92V 92JS

The Albino Rocca 2021 Barbaresco is a big surprise. This wine is fresh and bright, showing enormous focus and purity on the bouquet. There is impressive complexity too with crushed limestone, blue flower and bright cassis. I have not tasted this wine in a while and wonder where they've been hiding this beauty. Fruit comes from Meruzzano, Cottà and the youngest vines in Ronchi. Production is 13,000 bottles.

94 points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate (Jan 2025)

A pretty red, this is elegant and perfumed, delivering strawberry, cherry, rose, licorice and spice flavors. Firms up on the finish yet remains elegant and focused. Shows fine, mineral length. Best from 2027 through 2045. 580 cases made, 300 cases imported.

93 points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator (Dec 2024)

The 2021 Barbaresco is stellar. Floral and savory overtones are beautifully defined in a lifted, chiseled Barbaresco that shows the Albino Rocca house style at its best. Vineyard sites are Meruzzano and Ronchi. A wine of delicacy and understatement, the 2021 is a delight. This is what Barbaresco is all about.

92 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Oct 2024)

Extremely enjoyable Barbaresco, with fresh strawberry and pomegranate fruit character, as well as fresh violets. Crisp, chewy palate with slightly chalky tannins, yet good on the finish due to the tension. Crunchy and ready to drink now.

2023 Vincent Girardin Bourgogne Blanc Cuvee St Vincent (750ml)
Chardonnay from Bourgogne, Burgundy, France
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

Vincent Girardin's rise from reference-point négociant to powerhouse domaine has been one of the more interesting stories in Burgundy over the past 20 years. These days, Domaine Vincent Girardin holds a truly enviable stable of vineyard parcels up and down the Cote d'Or, but their bread and butter, as it were, are still their prime vineyards in and around their home base of Meursault. When we visited the domaine in April, it was clear that these Meursault wines were the highlights, and that unimpeachable pedigree extends all the way to the "humble" entry-level 2023 Bourgogne Blanc, which is actually anything but humble.

"Girardin's Cuvée St-Vincent Bourgogne Blanc over-delivers in a big way ... If you have a yen for Meursault on a budget, this one is a must-try." - Andrew Kitz, B-21 Burgundy Buyer

The Cuvée St-Vincent is, in fact, made mostly from declassified Meursault vines, with small balance of Puligny and Chassagne fruit rounding out the composition, so there's no question where the wine derives its hugely overperforming class and character. B-21 Buyer Andrew Kitz explains, "We came across a number of great value reds on our last trip to Burgundy, but nothing held a candle to this one when it came to Chardonnays in this price tier." With an aromatic profile that screams Meursault and a palate to match, even the most seasoned Burgundy aficionados would be hard-pressed to deny the exceptional quality and value of this sub-$30 gem.

With one of the most enviable stables of Chardonnay holdings in the Côte de Beaune, it’s no surprise that Girardin’s Cuvée St-Vincent Bourgogne Blanc over-delivers in a big way. Made from declassified parcels mostly in Meursault, along with dashes of Puligny and Chassagne fruit, the pedigree is crystal clear in the stunning nose that’s all Meursault. Ripe, compact stone fruits and touches of vibrant citrus play against a surprisingly firm, chalky core along with some spicy elements on the edges. The palate is no less pedigreed, with generous weight and fantastic balance framing those same elements from the nose, showing just how well Chardonnay performed in the 2023 vintage. We came across a few great value reds on our last trip to Burgundy, but nothing held a candle to this one when it came to Chardonnays in this price tier. If you have a yen for Meursault on a budget, this one is a must-try.

A small plateau of shlallow limestone and clay soils, weather moderated by the nearby Gironde, centuries of history producing great Merlot-based wines ... surely you'd expect to pay a premium for anything from this exceptional Right Bank region. But think again. While prices in Pomerol and St-Emilion continue to climb (often to eye-watering numbers these days), the humble Fronsac appellation is still a veritable treasure trove of stupendous values that are hardly matched anywhere in Bordeaux.

Our line-up today offers a fantastic picture of what makes Fronsac such a rewarding region for Bordeaux lovers seeking the ultimate combination of quality and value. Led by a pair of highly acclaimed expressions from the benchmark La Vieille Cure estate, you won't find more impressive bang for your buck on the Right Bank. The historic Chateau de la Dauphine hit new heights with its "positively stellar" 2020, and long-time B-21 favorite Fontenil is "a winner and well worth a case purchase" according to Jeb Dunnuck. Finally, Canon Pecresse turned out "a pure, mineral-laced Right Bank ... very much in the classic, balanced, yet impressive style of the vintage."

The best part of the proposition is that you can indulge in any or all of them as much as you please. With pricing like this, you can stock the cellar with guaranteed value performers that will shine well into the next decade and beyond.

The best I've tasted from this Château, the 2020 Château La Dauphine offers a terrific array of red and blue fruits as well as some classic Right Bank chalky minerality, medium to full-bodied richness, a pure, concentrated profile, and some background floral nuances. Drink this smoking good Fronsac over the coming decade.

93 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Mar 2023)

The 2020 La Dauphine is positively stellar. Soft and voluptuous, with fabulous depth, the 2020 offers up a heady mélange of blackberry jam, chocolate, licorice, spice, new leather and incense. This extroverted, inviting Fronsac is just gorgeous.

93 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Feb 2023)

The 85% Merlot in this superrich wine is what has pushed up the alcohol. It does give a powerful, juicy character to the black-currant fruits. Against the wood and tannins, this wine has density and a full ripe character. Worth aging, this fine, dense wine will be ready from 2026. Organic.

93 points, Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast (Dec 2022)

This offers lots of spices, chocolate and earthy notes to its dark-fruited character. Medium to full body. Ripe, velvety tannins and round texture. Shows depth and intensity with a compact structure and lingering finish. 85% merlot and 15% cabernet franc. From organically grown grapes. Try after 2024.

93 points, James Suckling (May 2023)

The 2020 de la Dauphine is a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple in color, it comes barreling out with energetic blackberry pie and stewed plums notes followed by hints of potpourri, incense, and mossy tree bark. The full-bodied palate delivers impactful black fruit preserves layers with soft, rounded tannins and plenty of brightness on the finish.

"Château Léoville Las Cases is one of the greatest and most consistent estates of Bordeaux..."

- William Kelley, Wine Advocate

Here's a rare opportunity to secure a trove of all-time great library vintages from the legendary Château Léoville Las-Cases, long considered 'first among the Super-Seconds' of Bordeaux with a reputation for First Growth quality. Now offered at best-in-market pricing, these monumental classics will evolve for decades to come, some already aged 40 years in pristine cellar conditions, all garnering 95-point ratings or higher, including multiple 100-point trophies.

Bordering First Growth Latour on the northern end of St-Julien overlooking the Gironde and managed by the Delon family since the late 19th century, the 98 hectares of Las Cases vineyards are planted in a single block encompassing a mosaic of terroirs, surrounded by walls known as the Grand Clos. In other words, it's the ideal terroir for producing immortal claret. Leading with the timeless classicism of the 1990, this vertical comprises the very pinnacle of Las Cases in the modern era. The most coveted vintages of the 21st century, including perfect renditions from 2010, 2016, and 2018, highlight the undeniable greatness of the estate's contemporary track record.

These are all outstanding choices that stand tall next to their First Growth neighbor at a fraction of the price, offering the perfect opportunity to take any world-class collection to the next level. Echoing a sports analogy, the Léoville-Las Cases bench is deep, and with only homerun hitters in the rotation, any and all of them are guaranteed to knock it out of the park.

98WA 98JS 97V 97JD 96WS 96WE

This comes from 50- to 90-year-old vines and is a blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc and 10% Merlot with 13.28% alcohol, 3.72 pH and an IPT of 71. The 2017 Léoville Las Cases is deep garnet-purple in color, and wow, the nose bursts with beautiful blackcurrant cordial, blackberry pie and blueberry preserve notes followed by hints of lilacs, dark chocolate, cedar chest, sassafras and licorice with emerging wafts of oolong tea, lavender and iron ore. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is an exercise in elegance and soft-spoken nuances within a mouth-coating palate of almost electric black and blue fruits, framed by very firm, exquisitely ripe, fine-grained tannins and seamless freshness, finishing epically long and wonderfully perfumed. Damn, that’s good.

98+ points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate (Mar 2020)

The purity here is really something. Blackberries and blackcurrants with sandalwood, mint and other classic herbs. Full-bodied and dense with ultra-fine tannins. Silky in all ways. Goes on for a long, long time. A blend of 79% cabernet sauvignon, 11% cabernet franc and 10% merlot. Joyous and serious wine for the vintage. And comparable to 2014 and 2015. Try after 2023.

98 points, James Suckling (Jan 2020)

The 2017 Léoville Las Cases captures all the best the vintage has to offer. Rich, unctuous and stunning in its beauty, the 2017 possesses tremendous richness and textural intensity that carry through to the very long finish, all with the regal, statuesque feel that is the quintessential signature of Las Cases. Just as it was from barrel, Las Cases is wonderfully polished. Tasted two times. What a wine!

97+ poiints, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Mar 2020)

The grand vin 2017 Chateau Leoville Las Cases checks in as 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Merlot, harvested between the 15th of September and the 4th of October. Brought up in 90% new French oak, it has an incredibly classic style that carries loads of creme de cassis, crushed rock, graphite, and smoked tobacco-like aromatics. These carry to a full-bodied, concentrated, elegant Las Cases that has fine tannins, flawless balance, and a great finish. It shows the refined, regal style of this estate, has beautiful richness and depth, and is going to drink nicely with just 5-7 years of bottle age.

97 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Feb 2020)

A very focused, very pure rendition, laden with cassis, plum reduction and boysenberry puree fruit that is mostly waiting in reserve. A cold cast iron edge imparts a sense of restraint, while smoldering tobacco, charcoal and alder notes are deeply buried on the finish. The opposite of flamboyant. In need of time. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Best from 2025 through 2040. 12,500 cases made.

96 points, James Molesworth, Wine Spectator (Mar 2020)

The watchword for this wine is style. Tannins underline the fruit. This rich structure, while not losing the swaths of berry flavors and crisp black currants, presents the balance between the ripeness and freshness of the vintage. Drink this wine from 2024.

"The 2020 Moulin du Cadet marries intensity with energy, a combination that works so well ... This is very nicely done. In a word: terrific." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

We love Bordeaux for several reasons, but chief among them is the incredible value that the region turns out, year after year. Sure, the iconic châteaux and collector's trophies often fetch prices that defy the laws of gravity, but there's so much great wine in Bordeaux at such fair prices that it's almost daunting to try to dig into it. That's why we do it for you.

Our latest find is the sensationally overperforming 2020 Moulin du Cadet St-Émilion, a remarkable wine of "terrific purity" with a "gorgeous perfume" as Jeb Dunnuck notes in his review of 94+ points. He's not the only, as James Suckling, Antonio Galloni, and Neal Martin have all chimed in with glowing compliments. Sourced from a small parcel on the upper part of the St-Émilion plateau, the 2020 is a classic example of the ideal balance that Merlot can achieve on the right limestone terroir. "Hedonistic yet without compromising delineation or terroir definition," it's a quintessential Right Bank beauty in every sense, from a vintage that really brings out the best in this small, under-the-radar property.

94JD 94V 94JS 93WI

All Merlot from a tiny parcel on the upper plateau, the 2020 Château Moulin Du Cadet has a fresher, elegant, yet nicely concentrated and medium-bodied profile as well as a gorgeous perfume of red and black raspberries, tobacco, peppery herbs, and truffle. Perfectly balanced, with fine yet building tannins and terrific purity, it needs just 2-4 years of bottle age and will evolve for 15+.

94+ points, Jeb Dunnuck (Mar 2023)

The 2020 Moulin du Cadet marries intensity with energy, a combination that works so well. Bright red/purplish fruit, lavender, rose petal, mint and blood orange are all finely delineated. Vibrant acids and clean mineral notes give the 2020 its vibrant, saline personality. This is very nicely done. In a word: terrific.

94 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Feb 2023)

Notes of cassis and plum skins with licorice, cocoa and mocha. Hints of walnut, too. Medium- to full-bodied with tight yet polished tannins that last for minutes. Delicious and juicy velvet-coated dark fruit with tension and length. Toned and lingering finish with lots of energy to it. Try after 2026.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2020 Moulin du Cadet is redolent of juicy black cherries, mulberries, and boysenberry preserves with an earthy undercurrent and nuances of star anise and wood smoke. 2023 Domaine Sebastien Dampt Chablis (750ml)

100WE 99WS 99JS

A hugely powerful wine, full of dark, brooding tannins. It’s a wine for seriously long-term aging, a sculptural vision of classic Bordeaux structure with with classy, ripe blackberry fruits. It has fresh acidity and an immense full-bodied character, cut through with mineral acidity. A great wine, with great potential.

100 points, Wine Enthusiast (May 2013)

Stunning and pure from the get-go, with intense cassis and blackberry fruit. Ultimately takes a slightly austere approach, with a wrought-iron structure driving along while pastis, black tea, licorice snap and asphalt notes course underneath. Long and loaded with grip, this remains remarkably fine-grained. A very chiseled Cabernet that is wonderfully precise and incredibly long. Best from 2020 through 2040.

The aromas to this wine have a beautiful purity of raspberries, blueberries, currants, and flowers that follow to a a full body, with super integrated tannins that are like the finest silk in texture. It shows elegant and pretty fruit character and a reserve and finesse of such great years as 1989 and 1995. The bright strong acidity gives a crunchy and creamy texture. Domaine Giraud is a relative newcomer in the Southern Rhone, crafting its first wine in 1974 from 4 hectares of rented vines and producing its first estate cuvee in 1998 under second generation siblings Marie and Francois Giraud. Spanning over 17 hectares spread over 64 separate parcels across the appellation, Giraud's estate owned vineyards are planted with vines averaging 60-80 years of age in a diverse mix of pebble, sand, clay, and limestone soils, each parcel farmed organically with minimal treatments and managed manually from harvesting to sorting.

Sourced primarily from old-vine Grenache including parcels in Les Gallimardes and La Crau, the elegant 2020 Domaine Giraud Chateauneuf-du-Pape Tradition Rouge is a blend of 80% Grenache and 5% Mourvedre aged for 18 months in cement vats and 15% Syrah matured in used Bordeaux barriques and bottled without filtering or fining, crafted in a vineyard-driven style with "relatively simple, unadorned winemaking" according to Wine Advocate's Joe Czerwinski with fine-grained tannins that frame the intense, luscious fruit and predict a long and satisfying evolution in the cellar.

A small-production cuvee that wasn't produced at all in 2021 due to frost damage, the enticing 95-point 2020 Domaine Giraud Chateauneuf-du-Pape Les Gallimardes Rouge comes from a terroir-expressive vintage "producing athletic, elegant wines of intensity and panache" according to Decanter's Matt Walls, an under-the-radar gem priced far below the region's higher profile estates and expertly crafted to reward savvy collectors with over a decade of pleasurable drinking ahead.

Leading off the 2020 Châteauneuf du Papes, the 2020 Châteauneuf du Pape from Giraud is 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and 5% Mourvedre. It shows the pure, supple, charming style of the vintage perfectly and is medium to full-bodied, has soft tannins, lots of darker berry fruits, notes of sappy garrigue and pepper, and outstanding length. A quintessential Châteauneuf du Pape, it will continue drinking well for 10-12 years.

"Massolino is among the estates I place at the top of Piedmont's hierarchy because of the consistency of the wines across their entire range." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

One of Piedmont's leading lights, Massolino is a perennial standout among Barolo fans for their super-refined, elegant house style. From the village wine to the single-cru expressions, you'll find captivating profiles that have won critical accolades year in and year out. We just sourced a must-see parcel of some of the estate's finest recent releases, showcasing the impeccable excellence that characterizes every bottle of Massolino.

This WA94 2021 straight Barolo is a quintessential expression of what makes Massolino such a reference-point estate for Serralunga terroir. "So elegantly composed," declares Decanter, while Galloni calls it "a fabulous wine that shows both the quality of the year and the very high standards at Massolino." Every bit as compelling is the 2019 straight Barolo from an equally prodigious vintage, which "straddles the line between power and elegance ... offering terrific balance and length" according to Wine Spectator. We also have a pair of superb single crus from 2020 in the WAS97+ Parussi and WA95 Margheria. The latter is "especially fine-textured and elegant" for the warm vintage, while the former is "a stunner ... radiant and bright with an especially direct and focused quality."

In short, these are some of the savviest buys in Barolo from a producer with one the finest track records in the category.

94WA 93WS 93JS 92V

In the light cream-colored label, the 2019 Barolo is elegant and contained, showing a very focused and linear style that makes a great impression and awakens the senses. There is wild cherry, blue flower and crushes stone backed by balanced freshness and tannins. The wine ages in large Slavonian oak casks for 30 months, and 85,000 bottles were released.

94 points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate (Aug 2023)

This red straddles the line between power and elegance, featuring delicate flavors of strawberry, cherry and rose hip, plus notes of earth, tar and iron. Finishes with more power and the grip of refined tannins, offering terrific balance and length. Best from 2026 through 2043. 7,080 cases made, 2,400 cases imported.

93 points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator (Apr 2024)

Lots of lavender, raspberry and orange blossom aromas follow through to a medium body, with fine tannins and a polished finish. Shows lovely drive and balance. Clear and fine. Drink after 2025.

93 points, James Suckling (Jun 2023)

The 2019 Barolo is a very serious wine. Readers looking for an easygoing, entry-level Barolo will not find that here. Bright and sizzling with tannin, the 2019 is going to need at least a few years to fully come together. Crushed rocks, red/purplish fruit and dried flowers emerge with some coaxing, but this is really a wine for the cellar. It is also probably the most reticent straight Barolo I tasted for this report.

96WE 95JS 95D 94V 94WS 94JA

A high percentage (75%) of new wood has given this wine a very fine polished character. Along with the structure, it has brought out impressive aromas of black fruits, cinnamon spice and power. The wine is has a fresh black-fruit aftertaste. Drink from 2028.

96 points, Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast (Jul 2024)

Lovely depth to the nose of this young Bordeaux with black currant, ink and walnut aromas that follow through to a medium to full body with a solid core of polished and integrated tannins. This will drink beautifully in 2026 and onwards.

95 points, James Suckling (Dec 2023)

Sweet blackcurrant fruit on the nose, softly jammy and expressive. You can really feel the ripeness here, grapes got full maturity and this is plush, mouthfilling and plump with chewy tannins - more opulent and perfumed than others also with more power and body. Tannins are mouthfilling and you get the stone minerality and the Cabernet freshness that really takes over giving this a sense of tension and grip. A really characterful and expressive Pauillac where the tannins and acidity perfectly compliment each other with the muscular and concentrated fruit also giving a multi-faceted dimension. 3% Cabernet Sauvignon completes the blend. 3.72pH. Ageing 75% new barrels.

95 points, Georgina Hindle, Decanter (Mar 2022)

The 2021 Lynch-Bages is rather somber today. Black fruit, mocha, licorice and chocolate are all amplified in this decidedly muscular wine from a cool year. This is a distinctly cool-climate Lynch-Bages built on power, with less of its usual flash.

94 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Feb 2024)

Displays a nice mix of almost caressing black cherry and black currant paste flavors, with warm cast iron, sweet tobacco and chestnut notes, showing just a nip of the vintage's austerity. Rock solid for the vintage, this offers a lively, savory edge that adds cut and energy. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2026 through 2040. 24,000 cases made.

94 points, James Molesworth, Wine Spectator (Apr 2024)

Has the austerity that you want of a great Left Bank wine at the beginning of its life, with cool vintage savoury raspberry leaf, capsicum and peony. Tons of slate-textured tannins, not hugely concentrated which makes it an outlier of recent Lynch Bages vintages, but it's exceptionally well balanced, and has excellent appellation character, with cassis and blackberry fruits. A high tannin index of 90IPT. Harvest September 27 through to October 9. One of the best in Pauillac, finishing up with chewy tannins. 75% new oak.

From one of our most proven performers in Barbaresco, we have a spectacular opportunity on a single-vineyard stunner with a raft of critical accolades, from an epic vintage, and at a flat-out must-see price. Fontanabianca's Matteo Pola farms his family's outstanding vine holdings as they have for generations, and the results are some of the finest under-the-radar gems you'll find in Barbaresco, from their entry-level bottling to the insider-favorite, single-vineyard expressions like the 2021 Bordini.

"The Fontanabianca 2021 Barbaresco Bordini, in the bottle with the black label, represents a step up in terms of focus and power..." - Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

From a prized parcel very near to the Tanaro River, the Bordini offers a fantastic juxtaposition of body, depth, finesse, and elegance. The site's warm location and microclimate provides exceptional phenolic ripeness in the fruit, but the clay-limestone soils with their veins of sand endow the wine with effortless precision and grace, so Barbaresco collectors get the best of both worlds in one impeccable expression. A "stunning ,,, utterly delicious" offering with glowing accolades from several critics, led by Kerin O'Keefe's 96 points and 95 points from Wine Advocate's Monica Larner, the 2021 Fontanabianca Bordini is a no-brainer, razor-sharp buy for Piedmont collectors looking to maximize their collectible bang for the buck.

Showing intensity and elegance, the stunning 2021 Fontanabianca Bordini opens with heady aromas of ripe red berry, mocha, violet and a balsamic whiff of camphor. It’s utterly delicious, with flavors of raspberry compote, red cherry, star anise and cake spice that dance across the palate alongside taut, fine-grained tannins. Bright acidity keeps it beautifully balanced and vibrant while a saline note lingers on the finish.

96 points, Kerin O'Keefe (Apr 2024)

The Fontanabianca 2021 Barbaresco Bordini, in the bottle with the black label, represents a step up in terms of focus and power over the village bottling. This wine is extremely direct and linear with red and purple fruits, crushed stone and herbs. Nebbiolo grapes come from 60-year-old vineyards. This is another historic family parcel near the Tanaro River on clay limestone soils with prominent veins of sand. This location means slightly warmer temperatures and more humidity in certain vintages. Otherwise, the quality of the soils contributes to the finesse and elegance of this wine. Production is 10,000 bottles.

95 points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate (Jan 2025)

The 2021 Barbaresco Bordini displays a medium ruby color with a touch more pigment and is spiced with aromas of red cherries, a delicate touch of licorice, roses, and crushed stones. It takes on a nice amount of tension on the palate, with medium body, ripe tannins, and balanced acidity. While it’s going to benefit from year or two in bottle, it’s appealing now and is going to drink at its best over the next 10-12 years.

94 points, Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck (May 2024)

Fresh and floral in aroma, this medium-bodied wine offers charming rose petal, orange rind and rooibos tea aromas followed by tangy raspberries, citrus and red cherry tones with good depth and length on the finish. Best from 2027.

Lots of black cherries and plums with toasted spices, crushed walnuts, grilled herbs, roasted meat and wet earth. Full-bodied with chewy tannins and a firm, chalky texture. Structured and layered with ground black pepper and blue flower undertones to the vivid blue-fruited palate. Toned and tense in the finish. Drink or hold.
