| 2020 San Vicente (750ml) | ||
| Tempranillo from Rioja, Spain | ||
|
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More San Vicente is as unconventional a project as you'll find in Rioja. When the Eguren family ripped up their vineyard in the early 1980s and replanted it with a massale selection of clones from their lowest-yielding vines, the consternation and ridicule came from all corners of the region. But he who laughs last laughs best, and now the Eguren family's efforts have been totally vindicated, as the wine is coveted Rioja collector's treasure year in and year out. "A nuanced, modern Rioja, this wine is a masterpiece of Marcos Eguren's winemaking technique—a truly elegant Tempranillo."- Joaquin Hidalgo, Vinous At its debut one of the first single-cru bottlings that Rioja had ever seen, San Vicente has changed the region's dynamics over the past few decades, with numerous producers now following the Eguren family's lead and going for a site-specifi, terroir-driven approach to their wines. A true original and still one of the best, San Vicente has once again stunned critics left and right in the 2020 vintage, a "pure, clean, incredibly impressive Rioja" per Jeb Dunnuck's 96-point review, one of a pair along side that of Vinous' Joaquin Hidalgo. The wine's refined, modern style and impeccable class have garnered the San Vicente a devoted following that will no doubt go head over heels for this latest expression, especially at our unmatched private client price that beats the rest of the market by a wide margin.

B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More "Stephan Usseglio has propelled this certified organic and biodynamic estate, named for his father, to among the top ranks of the region." - Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate The name Usseglio is no secret to lovers of top-flight Châteauneuf-du-Pape, but it's typically PIerre that comes to mind for many. However, that's all changing in recent years, as Domaine Raymond Usseglio is stepping into the limelight under the hand of the highly talented Stephan Usseglio. Having been in charge here since 1999 at the ripe age of 22, Stephan straddles that wonderful line between youthful vision, something he's held onto even as his career has entered a new stage of accomplishment and accolades, and respect for his family's traditions, including their exceptional vine holdings. The 2022 reds from Usseglio offer a crystal clear picture of a domaine firing on all cylinders and moving up in the quality heirarchy to the very top echelons, highlighted by the JS95 Cuvée Girard, a "dark and powerful" rendition that "makes a bold statement." Taking Grenache purity to the next level is the 2022 Cuvée Imperiale. "With ultra-fine tannins, flawless overall balance, and a great finish," notes Jeb Dunnuck, "it's a gem in the vintage." | 2019 Mayacamas Cabernet Sauvingon (750ml)
| Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa, California | ||
|
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More "...the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is clearly on another level ... This stunning bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon will drink nicely over the coming 30 years or more." - Jeb Dunnuck The historic Mayacamas estate has been a definitive exponent of Mount Veeder Cabernet for decades, and rising star winemaker Braiden Albrecht, along with Napa icon Andy Erickson consulting, has done a masterful job of expressing the estate's signature terroir and style, no matter the vintage conditions. As a result, few wines in Napa rack up such consistent accolades year after year, and the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is a prime example. The vintage is known for producing ripe, bombastic Cabernets, and the 2019 Mayacamas certainly shows shades of that character, but the familiar classicism that has made it a household name among collectors of the finest Napa cellar gems is all still readily apparent. "Loaded with character and energy" and "showing an old-school touch" according to Wine Spectator, the 97-point 2019 is a showstopper par excellence. Antonio Galloni notes, "the 2019 is shaping up to be majestic." As many of its peers in the cult Napa space have absolutely sky-rocketed in price, Mayacamas remains a relative collectible steal considering the wine's stunning quality, critical acclaim, and formidable cellar potential.

| 2021 Vina Almaviva EPU (750ml) | ||
| Cabernet Sauvignon from Puente Alto, Chile | ||
|
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More Crafted from the same vineyard as Chile's iconic 100-point Viña Almaviva, the WA94+ 2021 Almaviva Epu is a deliciously approachable and age-worthy second wine from Chile's legendary producer of powerful Cabernet Sauvignon blends. First produced in 2018 from the same terroir although usually higher in Cabernet and lower in Carmeñere than Almaviva, the Epu is sourced from the estate's 60-hectare vineyard planted mainly to Cabernet Sauvignon in layers of loamy clay, gravel, and rocks on the left bank of the Maipo River at 650 meters above sea level. Fed by a high-tech, underground drip irrigation system that delivers the precise amount of water required, the vineyard's warm, dry climate is moderated by cooling breezes sweeping down from the towering Andes that preserve freshness and enhance even ripening, the unique terroir contributing a signature earthy minerality to the wines. Described by Vinous critic Joaquim Hidalgo as the "French perfectionist" who is key to Almaviva's bright and nuanced style, winemaker Michel Friou blended 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Carmeñere and 5% Merlot from the vineyard's younger vines and aged the muscular 2021 Epu in 10% new and 90% second-use French oak for 12 months, yielding fresh, luscious dark fruit hinting of peppery spice with a luxurious texture and smooth, harmonious tannins promising to reward time in the cellar with over a decade of evolution. "An excellent Epu," according to Jane Anson, the 2021 expresses the exceptional Almaviva terroir in an approachable, enticing style, ready to enjoy over the next decade at an incredible value.

B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More Andrea Mufatto and Gerardo Michelini are fashioning some of the brightest boutique gems in the Argentine wine scene, and since they branched out to Spain's Bierzo region a few years back, they've made quite the mark there too, as evidenced by a mountain of consistent, glowing acclaim from Wine Advocate's Luis Gutierrez, as well as 2024 Winemaker of the Year honors from Tim Atkin, MW. After introducing our customers to their spectacular, critically acclaimed trio of Bierzo reds, made from old-vine Mencia, we were thrilled to learn they also make an equally compelling, single-vineyard white from old-vine Godello, which has already caught the attention of the critical press to the tune of 96 points from Vinous and 93 points from Wine Advocate. The Paraje la Mata vineyard's 80-year-old, head-trained vines are planted in a mix of slate and quartz soils, imbuing the wine with tensile balance, while the north-facing aspect keeps the ripeness in check, crucial in a warm vintage like 2022. Aged in barrel for an extra winter, the 2022 MA's profile is "tense, delicate, and medium-bodied," according to Vinous. The Spanish white wine scene is full of spectacular, hidden-gem overachievers like this, if you know where to look. And fortunately, we were able to secure a jaw-dropping price that brings this utterly charming, singular expression to you for under $30, so all you have to do is make room in the cellar.

B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More Bodegas Muga's status as an all-time Rioja reference-point is reaffirmed with this sterling foursome of releases that we just secured at razor-sharp pricing. Leading off we have a Prado Enea for the ages. "The expressive, complex and nuanced 2016 Prado Enea Gran Reserva is a textbook traditional Rioja in the making ... with all the components in the right proportion to age superbly in bottle." - Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate Muga's flagship bottling is always a coveted item, and this WA97+ rendition is already showing legendary pedigree that will thrill collectors and connoisseurs of Spain's finest. A universally lauded expression of this classic Rioja Gran Reserva, the 2016 boasts towering press including no fewer than four 97-point scores, putting it in rarified air among the greatest vintages of this Spanish icon in the 21st century. "A brilliant wine with a solid two decades of prime drinking ahead of it" per Jeb Dunnuck, this is collectible Rioja class at its very best, and it's now available to our private clients at a must-see price that you won't find anywhere else. The Selección Especial Reserva is always a crowd and collectible favorite in the range and always priced well for a broad audience yet offering the kind of cellar-worthy appeal that serious collectors are looking for. The 2020 rendtion ramps up the collectible appeal thanks to a particular feature of the vintage itself – no Prado Enea was made in 2020, so all the fruit and juice that would normally comprise that flagship icon has instead gone into the Selección Especial. So, it's no surprise that the 2020 picks up right where the 2019 leaves off, led by Jeb Dunnuck's 95-point review that highlights its "medium to full-bodied richness, a round, layered mouthfeel, and silky tannins," which makes it "already hard to resist." Finally, the newly released 2021 Reserva Rioja is one of the sharpest values in Spanish wine, "a textbook example of [Muga's] style in a very good year, with power, concentration and clout, elegance and freshness" perGutiérrez' 94-point review in Wine Advocate.It's a perfect candidate to stack by the case, since it will not only cruise for several years in the cellar, but it will quench your thirst for Muga excellence anytime over the next decade while the you wait for the big boys to reach their prime drinking windows. For fans of Spanish wine and of Rioja in particular, this is a spectacular opportunity to load up on proven performers that will put many smiles on your face for countless years to come, at market-best pricing.

After all, Sébastien is a staunch adherent to the "no oak" style, à la Louis Michel, and his wines reflect the kind of terroir purity that fetches a high premium from hardcore fans of classic, "old school" Chablis. Antonio Galloni, Vinous Savvy Bordeaux collectors won't need convincing – the thrilling 100pt. 2019 Chateau Lynch-Bages continues this estate's epic run of exceptional quality, elegantly balancing concentrated lush dark fruit with grippy, mouth-coating tannins on "an extremely persistent, almost Lafite-like finish" according to Inside Bordeaux's Jane Anson who declares it "a great Lynch-Bages of the modern era," offered at an equally spectacular value and delivered ex-Chateau in original wooden cases of six. Owned by the Cazes family for nearly a century, visitors to Chateau Lynch-Bages encounter an almost fairytale-like village complete with a Michelin-starred restaurant and luxury hotel, its stunning new contemporary winemaking facility designed by noted architects and sons of the masterful architect I.M. Pei, creator of the once controversial glass Louvre pyramid in Paris. Spanning 100 hectares planted mostly to Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller parcels of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the vineyards are located on a range of terroirs across Pauillac, from close to the Chateau on the gravelly Bages plateau to bordering St. Julien next to Chateau Pichon Lalande, the estate's vines for the Grand Vin averaging 30 years of age with some as old as 60 years. Under the direction of fourth generation Jean-Charles Cazes, the powerful 2019 Chateau Lynch-Bages was aged for 18 months in 75% new French oak, revealing intense, dark Cabernet aromatics described as "gorgeous from the start" by the Wine Spectator's James Molesworth, embodying the hedonistic Lynch-Bages style with a core of fresh opulent fruit layered over rich, ripe tannins that according to Decanter's Georgina Hindle give "no doubt that this is going to age slowly and for many decades."

B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More "The team [at Lingua Franca] led by winemaker Thomas Savre is producing a portfolio of wines that show the power and complexity possible to obtain in Oregon." - Eric Guido, Vinous Renowned for crafting top-scoring Burgundy for his family's Côte-de-Beaune estate, master winemaker Dominique Lafon worked as a consultant to Oregon's Evening Land Vineyards before collaborating with master sommelier and Evening Land general manager Larry Stone to co-found Lingua Franca in Willamette Valley's Eola-Amity Hills in 2015. Lafon's expertise at crafting exceptional Burgundy was credited with driving Evening Land's rising reputation early on. Purchasing the 140-acre Janzen Farm, a prime parcel situated next to Evening Land's Seven Springs site and adjacent to Domaine Serene's Jerusalem Hill Vineyard, Stone and Lafon then worked with renowned Willamette viticulturist Mimi Casteel to determine the precise mix of clones to plant based on the site's varied soils, utilizing organic and biodynamic viticulture throughout the estate's 66-acre vineyard and hiring Evening Land's former assistant winemaker and Lafon protege Thomas Savre to craft its vineyard-driven wines. Boasting experience at legendary Burgundy estates including Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, Domaine Dujac, and Maison Nicolas Potel, Savre employs a transparent, minimal-intervention approach in the cellar, resulting in wines that now boast an impressive track record of world-class quality and glowing acclaim from the critical press. The 2022 vintage continues this upward trajectory in spades, showing why Lingua Franca remains one of Oregon's most exciting producers.

Read More "This is great Mâconnais chardonnay!" - John Gilman, View From the Cellar B-21 Burgundy fans are well familiar with Pascal Bonhomme's Vire-Clesse Vieilles Vignes, making it an undisputed best-seller in the category over several vintages, but as happens from time to time, the wine fell off our radar for a few vintages. Recently, we went back to the importer to get a look at the newly arrived 2023 rendition, and we were thrilled (but not surprised) to find that it's better than ever. Bonhomme sources this wine from his oldest parcels, now approaching 70 years in age, so it exudes a quintessential combination of concentrated aromatics and flavors, along with "all of the vibrancy and freshness inherent in this lovely vintage" as Gilman notes. Our own Burgundy buyer Andrew Kitz also found the 2023 to be "a statement in grace and elegance ... [with] super-fine limestone minerality, fantastic balance and textural precision, medium weight, and excellent definition." Bonhomme's style is the classic white Burgundy profile that captures something for everyone. | 2021 Albino Rocca Barbaresco (750ml)

|
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More "I was deeply impressed with the 2021 Barbarescos at Albino Rocca. The wines are aromatic, vibrant and bristling with site character ... More than anything else, these wines are defined by superb purity." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous For four generations, the Rocca family has been producing stupendous Barbarescos from several of the region's most prized holdings. The late Angelo Rocca had propelled the estate to prominence over the past few decades, and his untimely death left a huge void in the Barbaresco landscape, but his three daughters have admirably carried on his visionary winemaking and track record, which is on full display in this duo of 2021s. The fun starts with the appellation Barbaresco that notched 94 points from Wine Advocate's Monica Larner, who dubbed it "a big surprise ... fresh and bright, showing enormous focus and purity," but the real showstopper is a single-cru masterpiece that checks every box. Ronchi is the family's most historic and important cru, with some vines approaching 75 years old. The southeast exposure and marl limestone soils, resulting in a "vivid, sculpted Barbareso [that] is hugely promising," according to Galloni. These are unequivocally wines of superior class and sophistication that Piedmont enthusiasts will want to own in quantity, but they're also quite limited. This parcel is all we're going to get at pre-tariff pricing, so the time to load up is now.

| Chardonnay from Bourgogne, Burgundy, France | ||
|
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More Vincent Girardin's rise from reference-point négociant to powerhouse domaine has been one of the more interesting stories in Burgundy over the past 20 years. These days, Domaine Vincent Girardin holds a truly enviable stable of vineyard parcels up and down the Cote d'Or, but their bread and butter, as it were, are still their prime vineyards in and around their home base of Meursault. When we visited the domaine in April, it was clear that these Meursault wines were the highlights, and that unimpeachable pedigree extends all the way to the "humble" entry-level 2023 Bourgogne Blanc, which is actually anything but humble. "Girardin's Cuvée St-Vincent Bourgogne Blanc over-delivers in a big way ... If you have a yen for Meursault on a budget, this one is a must-try." - Andrew Kitz, B-21 Burgundy Buyer The Cuvée St-Vincent is, in fact, made mostly from declassified Meursault vines, with small balance of Puligny and Chassagne fruit rounding out the composition, so there's no question where the wine derives its hugely overperforming class and character. B-21 Buyer Andrew Kitz explains, "We came across a number of great value reds on our last trip to Burgundy, but nothing held a candle to this one when it came to Chardonnays in this price tier." With an aromatic profile that screams Meursault and a palate to match, even the most seasoned Burgundy aficionados would be hard-pressed to deny the exceptional quality and value of this sub-$30 gem.

| 2020 Moulin du Cadet (750ml) | ||
| From Saint-Emilion, Bordeaux, France | ||
|
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More "The 2020 Moulin du Cadet marries intensity with energy, a combination that works so well ... This is very nicely done. In a word: terrific." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous We love Bordeaux for several reasons, but chief among them is the incredible value that the region turns out, year after year. Sure, the iconic châteaux and collector's trophies often fetch prices that defy the laws of gravity, but there's so much great wine in Bordeaux at such fair prices that it's almost daunting to try to dig into it. That's why we do it for you. Our latest find is the sensationally overperforming 2020 Moulin du Cadet St-Émilion, a remarkable wine of "terrific purity" with a "gorgeous perfume" as Jeb Dunnuck notes in his review of 94+ points. He's not the only, as James Suckling, Antonio Galloni, and Neal Martin have all chimed in with glowing compliments. Sourced from a small parcel on the upper part of the St-Émilion plateau, the 2020 is a classic example of the ideal balance that Merlot can achieve on the right limestone terroir. "Hedonistic yet without compromising delineation or terroir definition," it's a quintessential Right Bank beauty in every sense, from a vintage that really brings out the best in this small, under-the-radar property.

| 2023 Domaine Sebastien Dampt Chablis (750ml) | ||
| Chardonnay from Chablis, Burgundy, France | ||
|
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More We've been working with the wines of Sébastien Dampt for a few vintages now, and the scion of one of Chablis' most prominent winemakers has found a strong following among our long-time Burgundy aficionados. After all, Sébastien is a staunch adherent to the "no oak" style, à la Louis Michel, and his wines reflect the kind of terroir purity that fetches a high premium from hardcore fans of classic, "old school" Chablis. These newly arrived 2023s are clearly reflective of Dampt's style, starting with the 92-point 2023 Vaillons 1er Cru. "Very disciplined though still with the generosity of the vintage," the 2023 is understated when it needs to be while giving up just the right level of approachability to be enjoyable right out of the gate. The Cote de Lechet likewise shows its 1er cru pedigree in spades, with "excellent volume and richness to the succulent and sappy middle weight flavors" as described by Burghound's Allen Meadows. Finally, the village level Chablis stands as an unbeatable value in its category, an "easy-going effort" with "cool and pretty aromas ... textured, even succulent, medium-bodied flavors." Working directly with the domaine, we were able to source this parcel at a by-far market-best pricing, so our private clients can jump on these true exponents of pure Chablis terroir for a downright steal.

Spanning over 17 hectares spread over 64 separate parcels across the appellation, Giraud's estate owned vineyards are planted with vines averaging 60-80 years of age in a diverse mix of pebble, sand, clay, and limestone soils, each parcel farmed organically with minimal treatments and managed manually from harvesting to sorting. Sourced primarily from old-vine Grenache including parcels in Les Gallimardes and La Crau, the elegant 2020 Domaine Giraud Chateauneuf-du-Pape Tradition Rouge is a blend of 80% Grenache and 5% Mourvedre aged for 18 months in cement vats and 15% Syrah matured in used Bordeaux barriques and bottled without filtering or fining, crafted in a vineyard-driven style with "relatively simple, unadorned winemaking" according to Wine Advocate's Joe Czerwinski with fine-grained tannins that frame the intense, luscious fruit and predict a long and satisfying evolution in the cellar. A small-production cuvee that wasn't produced at all in 2021 due to frost damage, the enticing 95-point 2020 Domaine Giraud Chateauneuf-du-Pape Les Gallimardes Rouge comes from a terroir-expressive vintage "producing athletic, elegant wines of intensity and panache" according to Decanter's Matt Walls, an under-the-radar gem priced far below the region's higher profile estates and expertly crafted to reward savvy collectors with over a decade of pleasurable drinking ahead.
