I very much like the convenience of B‑21's service. One complaint is that it takes longer than I am used to with other online retailers to get a confirmation, which resulted in my placing a "double order" on my recent purchase. From now on I will know to be patient.

Sonoma's standard-bearer Ferrari-Carano needs little introduction. These quintessential California classics have been all-time best sellers at B-21 for years, and it's always nice to see a standard bearer continue to hit the mark. These 2021s and 2022s showcase winemaking duo Rebecka Deike and Natalie West at their best, all notching solid press from James Suckling and offering outstanding value and consistent excellence. The "Ripe yet elegantly balanced and refreshing" 2023 Chardonnay is a top-shelf value performer at 91 points & under $16, a perfect option for your next go-to house white. A step (or two) up at 94 points, the 2022 Tre Terre is "full bodied with lovely texture and tension" per Suckling, outpacing it's sub-$25 price. For the reds, the 2021 Siena hits on all cylinders for fans of this QPR best seller, while the 2021 Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon catches 92 points from Suckling, who notes, "Medium-bodied with fine tannins and beautiful length. Bright and vivid. Plenty of cabernet character." If you're looking for surefire quality at an easy price, you almost have too many good options with these Sonoma classics.

Black currant, graphite, spice and violets. Aromatic, full-bodied and creamy with dark chocolate, berries and hints of cedar and vanilla. Lots of fruit going on here. Needs to come together a bit. Better in 2026 and beyond.

2021 Andremily #10 Syrah (750ml)
Syrah from Central Coast, California
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

"Jim Binns continues to expand in impressive fashion ... As always, the wines are done in a rich, unctuous style, with extended maceration and tons of depth. With the right sites, that style can be incredibly exciting." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

After achieving a staggering twenty-seven 100-point scores during his tenure with winemaker Manfred Krankl at Sine Qua Non, Jim Binns established Andremily in 2012 on the outskirts of Ventura County, just south of Santa Barbara, naming it after his two children, Andrew and Emily. Sourcing grapes from top Santa Barbara vineyards including the legendary Bien Nacido and White Hawk, Jim has also expanded his use of estate-grown fruit since his recent purchase of the 39-acre Slide Hill Vineyard in Edna Valley, a move that has had “a profound impact on the wine” according to Galloni.

"This roster delivers a comparable style [to SQN] in its density and opulence, albeit with even more chocolate-tinged richness and, somewhat paradoxically, more finesse." - Matthew Luczy, Wine Advocate

We've just received our first allocation of the 2022 reds – a "brilliant" Mourvèdre and a #11 Syrah that's "heavenly stuff" – and if they're any indication, this vintage is shaping up to be another gangusters set, with both wines coming in at 96-98 points from Jeb Dunnuck. Needless to say, fans of Andremily, or full-throttle, luxury California reds in general, will not want to miss these. And if you need to reload on previous vintages, be sure to lock in on the highly acclaimed 2021s, as well as a handful or rare magnums from 2019 and 2020!

98WI 97WA

The 2021 Andremily No. 10 sports a deep garnet-purple color. Notes of tar, black plums preserve, and black cherries slowly emerge from the glass, followed by hints of mossy tree bark and anise. Full-bodied, rich, and concentrated, the palate is skillfully structured with firm, ripe, rounded tannins and bold freshness, finishing long with bags of energy.

98 points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Independent (Oct 2024)

The 2021 No. 10 is a blend of 93% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre and 2% Viognier. Grapes come from several vineyards, including Andremily's new Slide Hill estate in Edna Valley, White Hawk, Larner, Harrison-Clarke, Kimsey and Alta Mesa Vineyards in Santa Barbara County. It was vinified with 50% whole clusters and matured for around 22 months in 65% new French barriques. Bottled August 12 and tasted October 25, it boasts a supermassive black hole of dark, perfumed fruit at the core. With time in the glass, it reveals pure accents of mint chocolate, vanilla bean, olives, lilac, tar and botanical nuances. The palate is incredibly concentrated, its graphite-laced fruit waiting to explode. All that depth of fruit is balanced by fireworks of fresh acidity and velvety tannins, and it has a highly latent finish. 900 cases were made, which will be sold as part of a three-bottle box set for $330. A few magnums were also made, which will be sold as part of a two-bottle set with the 2021 Mourvèdre.

2010 Chateau Suduiraut (375ml)
Semillon from Sauternes, Bordeaux, France
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

Featured in a range of formats and vintages cellared in perfect conditions, Sauternes fans and those looking to explore them won't need an excuse or special occasion to enjoy this thrilling, top scoring selection from Chateau Suduiraut, boasting fresh, opulent honeyed fruit perfectly balanced by savory acidity, offering a not to be missed opportunity for both collectors and newbies to stock up on at bargain pricing and enjoy over the next decades.

Set among exquisite gardens designed by the creator of the Sun King’s grounds at the Palace of Versailles, the majestic two-story turret-flanked Chateau Suduiraut is one of Bordeaux’s most beautiful estates, located just to the north of Chateau d’Yquem with 92 hectares of sloping organically farmed vineyards planted with mostly Semillon vines averaging 30 years of age. After harvesting the botrytized grapes over multiple passes with strict selection employed in the vineyard, longtime technical director Pierre Montegut vinified the Chateau Suduiraut Sauternes in French oak, blending mostly Semillon with small amounts of Sauvignon Blanc, then aged it on the lees in 50% new French oak barrels for 18-24 months, yielding its signature perfumed aromas with rich and decadent spiced fruit, balanced with energetic acidity and epic length. Describing it as “a mood altering wine,” the 95 pt. 2004 Suduiraut boasts “a range of honeyed flavors that never seems to stop” according to Wine and Spirits, while the Wine Advocate’s Robert Parker Jr. declares the 95 pt. 2006 Suduiraut “unctuously textured, with superb, full-bodied richness, good underlying acidity, and a stunning finish.” Boasting “a beautiful razor-sharp line of acidity that effortlessly slices through all that pure botrytised fruit,” Neal Martin of Vinous calls the 98 pt. 2009 Suduiraut a “benchmark Suduiraut” and declares the 96 pt. 2010 Chateau Suduiraut “simply magnificent” and “a candidate for best Sauternes of the vintage." Vinous critic Antonio Galloni declares the “fabulous” 97 pt. 2016 Suduiraut “such a gorgeous wine,” delivering a remarkable combination of flavor and intensity yet remaining “gracious and classy," while the Wine Enthusiast’s Roger Voss calls it “a great wine with a long-term future.”

Whether selecting a few favorites or mixing a case, these magical vintages of Chateau Suduiraut are crafted to reveal their layered complexity over the next decades, their rich palate deftly balanced by an energizing lift of acidity, guaranteeing a pleasurable evolution for years to come. Christian Seely, AXA's charismatic managing director behind Chateau Suduiraut, describes tasting these elegantly crafted Sauternes well: “It is above all a supremely pleasurable wine, and one that needs no excuse, context or pairing: You can just open it for the sheer pleasure of the thing.” Never more true at these exceptional bargain prices.

98WA 96V

One of the highest points of this vertical tasting, the 2010 Suduiraut reveals a dense, powerful bouquet of ripe apricots, exotic fruit, mango, pineapple, saffron and spices. More solar than the 2009 and with a full-bodied structure, it’s rich and concentrated, layered and seamless with a fleshy core of fruit and stunning controlled power, finishing long and mineral with bright acids. This stunning blend of 90% Sémillon and 10% Sauvignon Blanc, harvested between September 22 and November 9 in five tries, was matured for 20 months in oak barrels (50% new, 50% one year) and contains 145 grams per liter of residual sugar.

98 points, Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate (Jun 2024)

The 2010 Suduiraut, picked from 22 September until 9 November in five tries through the vineyard, has a drop-dead gorgeous bouquet that is delineated and detailed. There are copious scents of dried honey, apricot, white peach and just a hint of melted candle wax. The palate is very well balanced with great depth. It boasts layers of rich botrytised fruit, you can feel the weight here but not the heaviness thanks to that killer line of acidity. This 2010 has long been one of the finest Sauternes of the vintage and continues to amaze. Fabulous, even if not quite up there with the imperious 2009. 13.8% alcohol, 145gm/L residual sugar. Tasted at the Suduiraut vertical at the château.

100WA 100WI

The 2021 Mourvèdre is another archetypal example of the variety from Andremily, where winemaker Jim Binns manages to polish what can be a naturally rustic variety into a shining, sapphire-like expression. Bottled on August 26 and tasted on October 25, it shows the elegance and juiciness that is characteristic of a cooler growing season. It's explosive and electrically blue on the nose, with incredibly pure aromas of blueberry candy, violet, juniper and accents of coffee beans, warm chocolate, aniseed and grilled Wagyu beef—it continually unfurls to reveal new scents with each return to the glass. The palate is just as impressive with its balance of concentrated, fragrant fruit, fireworks of fresh acidity and finely chalky tannins, and it has a tremendously long, perfumed finish. The 2021 is blended with 12% Syrah, and fruit comes from Andremily's new Slide Hill estate vineyard, plus the Alta Mesa Vineyard and White Hawk Vineyard in Santa Barbara County. It was vinified using 75% whole clusters and matured around 21 months in 50% new French barriques and 600-liter demi-muids. 500 cases were made, which will be sold as part of a three-bottle box set for $330. A few magnums were also made, which will be sold as part of a two-bottle set with the 2021 No. 10 Syrah.

The 2021 Mourvedre has a deep garnet-purple color. Wow—the nose erupts with licorice, wild sage, violets, and tar scents, leading to a core of blackberry preserves, minted blackcurrants, and stewed plums. Full-bodied, the palate has a firm, very fine-grained texture with amazing tension and purity, finishing long and fragrant. Gorgeous.

2022 Lingua Franca The Plow Eola-Amity Hills Pinot Noir (750ml)
Pinot Noir from Willamette, Oregon
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

"The team [at Lingua Franca] led by winemaker Thomas Savre is producing a portfolio of wines that show the power and complexity possible to obtain in Oregon." - Eric Guido, Vinous

Renowned for crafting top-scoring Burgundy for his family’s Côte-de-Beaune estate, master winemaker Dominique Lafon worked as a consultant to Oregon’s Evening Land Vineyards before collaborating with master sommelier and Evening Land general manager Larry Stone to co-found Lingua Franca in Willamette Valley’s Eola-Amity Hills in 2015. Lafon's expertise at crafting exceptional Burgundy was credited with driving Evening Land’s rising reputation early on. Purchasing the 140-acre Janzen Farm, a prime parcel situated next to Evening Land’s Seven Springs site and adjacent to Domaine Serene’s Jerusalem Hill Vineyard, Stone and Lafon then worked with renowned Willamette viticulturist Mimi Casteel to determine the precise mix of clones to plant based on the site’s varied soils, utilizing organic and biodynamic viticulture throughout the estate’s 66-acre vineyard and hiring Evening Land’s former assistant winemaker and Lafon protege Thomas Savre to craft its vineyard-driven wines. Boasting experience at legendary Burgundy estates including Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, Domaine Dujac, and Maison Nicolas Potel, Savre employs a transparent, minimal-intervention approach in the cellar, resulting in wines that now boast an impressive track record of world-class quality and glowing acclaim from the critical press. The 2022 vintage continues this upward trajectory in spades, showing why Lingua Franca remains one of Oregon's most exciting producers.

97JD 96D

A jeweled ruby/red hue, the 2022 Pinot Noir The Plow is an exceptional wine all around and its name pays tribute to all of those who work in the vineyard for the estate. In the glass, it reveals a spiced and complex nose with aromas of black cherries, anise, sappy forest herbs, fresh leather, and crushed flowers. As it opens, it continues to evolve and bring forward more sanguine notes of blood orange that frame the wine beautifully. The palate offers outstanding depth and intensity with a characteristic elegance and weightless feel, plush tannins, refreshing salinity, and mineral underpinnings. I would recommend stashing this one away for a few years and drink 2026-2040.

97 points, Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck (Aug 2024)

Smoky, earth-driven umami marks this aromatically intense bottling of The Plow from Lingua Franca. Sourced from choice blocks in the Lingua Franca estate Block 1, with a special massal selection of 777 as well as 115 in Block 3, Calera Clone in Block 6, and structure from clone 943 in Block 4. Gravelly soils give this wine all the earthen intensity you can handle. Turned soils and singed violets come together with notes of smoky clove and salty soy. The palate delivers ripe blackberries, savoury sesame oil and rich ferrous minerality that carries the finish with a touch of iron and blood. Wow.

2020 San Vicente (750ml)
Tempranillo from Rioja, Spain
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

San Vicente is as unconventional a project as you'll find in Rioja. When the Eguren family ripped up their vineyard in the early 1980s and replanted it with a massale selection of clones from their lowest-yielding vines, the consternation and ridicule came from all corners of the region. But he who laughs last laughs best, and now the Eguren family's efforts have been totally vindicated, as the wine is coveted Rioja collector's treasure year in and year out.

"A nuanced, modern Rioja, this wine is a masterpiece of Marcos Eguren's winemaking technique—a truly elegant Tempranillo."- Joaquin Hidalgo, Vinous

At its debut one of the first single-cru bottlings that Rioja had ever seen, San Vicente has changed the region's dynamics over the past few decades, with numerous producers now following the Eguren family's lead and going for a site-specifi, terroir-driven approach to their wines. A true original and still one of the best, San Vicente has once again stunned critics left and right in the 2020 vintage, a "pure, clean, incredibly impressive Rioja" per Jeb Dunnuck's 96-point review, one of a pair along side that of Vinous' Joaquin Hidalgo. The wine's refined, modern style and impeccable class have garnered the San Vicente a devoted following that will no doubt go head over heels for this latest expression, especially at our unmatched private client price that beats the rest of the market by a wide margin.

96V 96JD 94JS

If there is a wine that embodies the terroir-driven focus since the 1990s, it's San Vicente. The 2020 San Vicente is 100% Tempranillo Peludo, distinguished by its velvety leaves. Sourced from the San Vicente vineyard in the Canoca Valley, San Vicente de la Sonsierra, it aged for 20 months in French (90%) and American (10%) oak barrels. This purplish wine offers ripe black fruit aromas and wild herb notes against an oak backdrop. Dry, juicy and taut, the light and fine-grained tannins linger long. A nuanced, modern Rioja, this wine is a masterpiece of Marcos Eguren's winemaking technique—a truly elegant Tempranillo.

96 points, Joaquín Hidalgo, Vinous (Apr 2024)

Coming all from a massale selection of Tempranillo (Peludo Tempranillo) and aged 20 months in new barrique, the 2020 San Vicente is deep purple-hued and reveals a beautiful nose of cassis and assorted darker, almost blue fruits supported by classy oak, graphite, and crushed stone-like minerality. It's beautifully concentrated, medium to full-bodied, has fine tannins, and a great finish. This pure, clean, incredibly impressive Rioja will benefit from 3-4 years of bottle age and evolve for two decades.

96 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Jul 2024)

A plush, complex Rioja with powdery tannins that coat the palate nicely. Deep nose with lots of blackberries, Mexican chocolate, iodine and fine spices. Excellent quality and quantity of tannins that melt away with the ripe but fresh fruit. Very long and tight but really silky. Drink or hold.

2009 Chateau Lynch-Bages (750ml)
Cabernet Sauvignon from Pauillac, Bordeaux, France
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

Lynch-Bages is pure magic in 2019....A towering Pauillac, the 2019 Lynch Bages will make a great addition to any cellar…Don’t miss it.

Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Savvy Bordeaux collectors won’t need convincing – the thrilling 100pt. 2019 Chateau Lynch-Bages continues this estate’s epic run of exceptional quality, elegantly balancing concentrated lush dark fruit with grippy, mouth-coating tannins on “an extremely persistent, almost Lafite-like finish” according to Inside Bordeaux’s Jane Anson who declares it “a great Lynch-Bages of the modern era,” offered at an equally spectacular value and delivered ex-Chateau in original wooden cases of six.

Owned by the Cazes family for nearly a century, visitors to Chateau Lynch-Bages encounter an almost fairytale-like village complete with a Michelin-starred restaurant and luxury hotel, its stunning new contemporary winemaking facility designed by noted architects and sons of the masterful architect I.M. Pei, creator of the once controversial glass Louvre pyramid in Paris. Spanning 100 hectares planted mostly to Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller parcels of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the vineyards are located on a range of terroirs across Pauillac, from close to the Chateau on the gravelly Bages plateau to bordering St. Julien next to Chateau Pichon Lalande, the estate's vines for the Grand Vin averaging 30 years of age with some as old as 60 years. Under the direction of fourth generation Jean-Charles Cazes, the powerful 2019 Chateau Lynch-Bages was aged for 18 months in 75% new French oak, revealing intense, dark Cabernet aromatics described as “gorgeous from the start” by the Wine Spectator’s James Molesworth, embodying the hedonistic Lynch-Bages style with a core of fresh opulent fruit layered over rich, ripe tannins that according to Decanter’s Georgina Hindle give “no doubt that this is going to age slowly and for many decades.”

Embodying the terroir of Pauillac with magnificent aging potential, the long-lived, benchmark 100 pt. 2019 Chateau Lynch-Bages is “a true classic from this estate” according to the Wine Advocate’s William Kelley, among only a handful of perfectly rated 2019 Bordeaux standing shoulder to shoulder with the First Growths at a fraction of the price. As British wine critic Oz Clarke famously declared, "Lynch Bages is impressive at five, beautiful at ten, and irresistible at twenty" - secure yours while they last and prepare to enjoy the remarkable odyssey ahead.

98WI 96WA 96WS #93 Top 100 96WE 96JS

Powerful, rich, tannins that are chewy and physical in the mouth. Liquourice bud, turmeric root, cloves, rose stems, with tight blackcurrant and softer blackberry fruits. The muscular structure of the appellation and the concentration of Lynch Bages add a more serious side to the generosity of the 2009 vintage, and together they make something very special. This is begining to open up, with plenty more to give. 70% new oak.

98 points, Jane Anson (Apr 2022)

The medium to deep garnet colored 2009 Lynch Bages is boldly scented of crème de cassis, blackberry pie and baked plums with chocolate box, incense and underbrush suggestions plus a waft of bay leaves. Medium to full-bodied, taut and well sustained in the mouth, it has a firm, grainy texture and a lively backbone lifting the black fruit core to a nice long finish.

96 points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate (Mar 2019)

Tight and backward, this has dense, almost chewy layers of fig, currant and plum cake behind a very solid wall of cedar, roasted vanilla and charcoal notes. There's serious grip on the finish, with an iron edge that won't quit. Best from 2015 through 2035. 31,500 cases made.

96 points, James Molesworth, Wine Spectator (Mar 2012)

#93 - Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2012

A dense, immense, solidly powerful wine. The ripest fruit overflows, paralleling the dark, solid tannins. As so often, Lynch-Bages is a blockbuster, dark and concentrated, with immense aging potential.

96 points, Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast (Feb 2012)

A powerful and ripe wine with a wide-screen personality, this makes a very bold statement without becoming a jot heavy. Serious tannins at the long finish suggest this has long-term aging potential. Drink now with a big steak or hold. (Horizontal Tasting, London, 2019)

Paul-Vincent Avril sets the bar for classic, age-worthy style year after year, and the 2022 Clos des Papes is another entry in the pantheon of legendary wines to emerge from this storied address.

“The 2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape is showing beautifully, with the sun-kissed style of the vintage yet more depth and density than most ... It's one of the wines of the vintage and will have two decades of longevity.” - Jeb Dunnuck

The 24 different parcels that comprise the wine are located in a diverse range of terroirs, from the rocky La Crau to areas of sand, limestone, and gravel, giving Avril the ability to maintain a consistency of style and quality that few in the region can match, while also mitigating any difficulties the growing season may bring. The 2022 is everything collectors expect from this benchmark icon, with critics across the board hailing its long-haul pedigree and perfectly composed profile. Best of all, our razor-sharp, market-leading pricing allows you to stock the cellar with confidence.

The 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape is showing beautifully, with the sun-kissed style of the vintage yet more depth and density than most in the vintage. Blackberries, Provençal garrigue, spice, and saddle leather all define the aromatics, and it hits the palate with the classic elegance of the estate in its medium to full-bodied, layered, multi-dimensional style. It's one of the wines of the vintage and will have two decades of longevity.

98 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Oct 2024)

Despite a hailstorm that destroyed approximately one-third of the crop this year, Paul-Vincent Avril managed to produce a wine with the same grape proportions as in previous years, thanks to his vineyard's diverse and fragmented nature. So, the 2022 Chateauneuf du Pape from Clos des Papes reveals a delicate, aromatic bouquet of peony, gooseberry, lilac, flowers and cherries mingled with delicate notes of fennel and menthol. Medium to full-bodied, sappy and layered, it's perfectly textured with velvety, delicate tannins enhanced by bright acids and a long, ethereal finish. Although the Mourvèdre is slightly dominant at this stage, this wine is unquestionably poised for great aging potential.

97 points, Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate (Sep 2024)

The alluring 2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape won me over in a heartbeat. Vivid licorice, sage, blueberry, lavender, red and black cherry as well as crushed flowers hail from the glass. Full-bodied and intense, the 2022 packs ample flavor concentration yet always maintains balance through lifting freshness. Polished tannins neatly structure this ambitious 2022 that has the potential to age gracefully for at least two decades.

96+ points, Nicolas Greinacher, Vinous (Jun 2024)

A richly styled, opulent Châteauneuf that offers a streamlined cascade of ripe cherry, licorice root and toasted chestnut. Mineral energy keeps this powering long distance, with a smoldering foundation of iron. Starts off silky in feel, with a caressing texture quickly firmed up by fine tannins that hold real power. Hints of wet soil and baking spices detail the long, winding finish. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Best from 2026 through 2042.

96 points, Kristen Bieler, Wine Spectator (Jan 2025)

A silky, textural and harmonious red with notes of dark cherries, fresh blackberries, dried thyme, currants and some mild spices. It's medium-bodied with finely grained tannins. Elegant and graceful, silky and bright. Fresh center palate with plenty of vitality and a caressing texture. Precise and harmonious with a pure expression of fruit at the center and a vibrant, spicy finish. Drink or hold.

96 points, James Suckling (Apr 2024)

A touch less Mourvèdre this year, but not enough to change the profile of the wine, which is fairly classic albeit pretty bombastic in 2022. Raspberry and black cherry, ripe and exuberant. Full but not massive, the alcohol is present, slightly warming the finish. Tannins are a little grainy, so I would give this time to settle before broaching. Succulent and juicy, with a touch of liquorice. Vincent Avril believes the wine could close down quite early on. So drink young, or (even better) wait until 2030. All destemmed, aged in old foudres.

Savvy bargain hunters are by now well aware of the stellar quality for price to be found in the relatively new Cairanne appellation. Since its promotion to full cru status, the region has captured the attention of Southern Rhône insiders, and it’s Domaine Alary leading the way.

Father and son Denis and Jean-Etienne Alary are renowned for their track record of consistent excellence, and the flagship Estevenas Rouge defines the domaine’s style and reputation in the market. The 94-96 point 2022 rendition “features stunning aromas ... Full-bodied, creamy and lush on the palate, it finishes long and silky” according to Wine Advocate’s Joe Czerwinski, the Syrah-dominant blend benefitting from some of the oldest Syrah vines in the Southern Rhône. The 2022 La Brunote is a prime example of the Alarys’ wide-ranging repertoire and skill set. The 92-94WA, Mourvèdre-based blend excels in the warm vintage, especially at our market-best price. “Full-bodied and richly concentrated, it's almost creamy in texture, with a lingering finish. Yum,” declares Czerwinski. Finally, the 2022 Jean de Verde continues this cuvée’s track record as a benchmark Cairanne collectible. Garnering a whopping 95-97 points as a potential best-ever effort from Denis and Jean-Etienne, it's "amazingly complex on the nose ... [with] wonderful harmony. It's full-bodied and rich, concentrated and velvety, with a long, zesty finish." In short, you'll be hard pressed to find a better bang for your buck in the southern Rhone. Alary is back at B-21 in a big way, with 2022s that set the pace for the appellation and offer world-class value.

The 2023 Cairanne L'Estevenas Blanc is very clean and pure, offering a kiss of minerality, sliced apple, orange blossom, and floral notes. Medium-bodied, focused, and balanced with integrated acidity, this terrific even split of Clairette and Roussanne was aged eight months in stainless steel and oak barrels. Drink bottles over the coming 3-5 years.

93 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Apr 2025)

A ripe, fairly tropical style of Cairanne blanc, with pineapple and pear flavours. Opulent texture, but it's really fresh and lively, with good acidity. Ends dry, on a sandy mineral touch.

2022 Samuel Billaud Chablis (750ml)

"Let’s cut to the chase. Samuel Billaud is one of the most exciting winemakers in Chablis. He has the 'touch' that elevates wines to another level ... Would I put him in the same tier as Vincent Dauvissat and Raveneau? I would." - Neal Martin, Vinous

There's not much we can say that isn't already perfect captured in the above quote from Martin. Samuel Billaud is firmly ensconced in the elite tier of Chablis producers. With huge press from Martin and Jasper Morris, including several Five Star designations, the 2022 range is a resounding triumph for Billaud, with vintage-best efforts in every tier of the quality heirarchy. While his wines can still be had for a fraction of the price of his cult-status contemporaries, they're starting to become almost as difficult to find in stock. This latest parcel is now available in limited quantities, so anyone who hasn't already locked in their allocation should take full advantage of this opportunity.

Pretty forceful, direct acidity here. Classic Chablis style. Will age. Comes from two plots situated on the left bank of the Serein, with one positioned below Montée de Tonnerre. They are fermented and kept separate before blending. Mostly hand-harvested.

92 points, Andy Howard, Decanter (Oct 2023)

A blend of three great sites, Les Pargues (35 year old vines), Bas de Chapelot (40), and Les Quarts (90 year old), and some Fontenottes. Bright pale colour. Excellent tension, even bitterness. This definitely needs more elevage so will be bottled later than the Petit Chablis. Some riper notes before a much more saline finish. Impeccable and totally Chablis. Drink from 2025-2028.

2023 Kelley Fox Pinot Noir Mirabai (750ml)
Pinot Noir from Willamette, Oregon
B-21 Top Recommendation

Declared “one of the most exciting portfolios of wines made in the United States” by Eric Guido of Vinous, these Kelley Fox selections from Willamette Valley include a top scoring range of elegant vineyard-expressive Pinot Noirs and a rich, energetic Chardonnay, her record of exceptional quality earning the portfolio a devoted cult following worldwide and available in limited quantities outside her exclusive winery list.

Establishing her winery in 2007 with her father Gus Stearns, Kelley Fox was mentored by David Lett of The Eyrie Vineyards before spending a decade as the winemaker at Scott Paul Wines, crafting her wines as a transparent expression of their vineyard origins with limited intervention in the winery and gaining access over her career to some of Oregon's top vineyards. Employing small lot fermentations with all native yeasts and aging in in used barrels, Eric Guido of Vinous describes Kelley’s 2022 Pinot Noirs as “lifted, finessed and ethereal yet still vibrantly fruit-focused and nearly spiritual in the way that seemingly only Pinot Noir can be,” while the white wines are “potent and rich yet driven by an energetic mineral core that adds remarkable depth.” Sourced from the Dundee Hills AVA, the entry level 92 pt. 2022 Kelly Fox Pinot Noir Mirabai offers “soft elegant fruit as well as a supple texture and fresh acidity” according to Audrey Frick of Jeb Dunnuck, while the beautifully aromatic 96 pt. 2022 Kelley Fox Liminal Maresh Vineyard Pinot Noir has “approachable, fine tannins, vibrant, mouthwatering, even acidity, and crystalline purity” and promises to evolve for over a decade. Vinous critic Eric Guido calls the rich and juicy 96 pt. 2022 Kelley Fox Durant Vineyard Pinot Noir “a model of purity, silken to the core” with “unbelievable freshness,” while the fresh and zesty 96 pt. 2022 Kelley Fox Maresh Vineyard Golden-Crowned Sparrow Blocks Pinot Noir is “darkly alluring” with “silky textures and simulating acidity,” both built for a decade or more of enjoyment. Sourced from the Freedom Hill Vineyard and aged in stainless steel for six months, Audrey Frick of Jeb Dunnuck calls the 93 pt. 2023 Kelley Fox Willamette Valley Chardonnay “hard to resist,” offering fresh, spiced fruit with “outstanding energy propelling it through the lovely, savory, mineral-noted finish” and declaring it “a tremendous value.”

Focusing on the clearest expression of a vineyard's character, Kelley Fox is a name for Oregon wine fans to add to their must try list, or as succinctly stated by Vinous critic Eric Guido, “Anyone looking for Oregon Pinot Noir purity and transparent communication of terroir from the soil to the vine to the bottle must explore Kelley Fox Wines.”

93WA 93JG

Despite its modest price point, the 2023 Pinot Noir Mirabai (a barrel selection) comes from some of the top vineyards in the Dundee Hills. Fifty-two percent comes from own-rooted vines in the Weber Vineyard planted in 1983; 28% comes from Stater Vineyard, where vines were planted on rootstock in 1990; 11% comes from own-rooted vines planted in 1974 and 1984 in Durant Vineyard; and 9% comes from own-rooted vines planted from 1970 to 1988 in the Maresh Vineyard. It was fermented with around 15% whole clusters, and the wine was matured for 10 months in used French oak. It has ringing aromas of rhubarb, blackberry, raspberry, lavender and Angostura bitters, offering botanical undertones as it airs in the glass. The light-bodied palate is vibrant and expressive with wonderfully perfumed fruit, chalky tannins and a long, tremendously layered finish. 1,808 cases were made.

93 points, Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate (Dec 2024)

The 2023 Mirabai bottling of pinot noir from Kelley Fox hails from different vineyards in this vintage than was the case last year. The fruit composition of the 2023 version is fifty-two percent from the Weber Vineyard, twenty-eight percent from the Stater Vineyard, eleven percent Durant Vineyard and nine percent Maresh Vineyard; hence the Dundee Hills AVA for the wine this year. It tips the scales at 13.5 percent in 2023 and included about fifteen percent whole clusters. The wine offers up a beautifully pure and sappy nose of red and black cherries, sweet beetroot, roses, peonies, gamebird, a complex base of soil tones just a hint of black tea and gentle savory notes in the upper register. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, precise and vibrant, with a lovely depth of sappy fruit, an excellent foundation of soil, beautifully integrated tannins, excellent balance and a long, complex and lifted finish. This is meant to be Kelley’s most user-friendly bottling of pinot noir out of the blocks and the 2023 is certainly already very easy to enjoy. That said, it is still effectively quite primary in personality and truly deserves at least five or six years in the cellar to allow its secondary layers of complexity to emerge. It is a beautiful wine in the making.

2022 Lingua Franca Estate Eola-Amity Hills Pinot Noir (750ml)
Pinot Noir from Willamette, Oregon

The 2022 Pinot Noir Estate saw 20% whole clusters and 20% new oak. A representation of the vineyard, the blend can vary from year to year. The 2022 is a ripe ruby color and opens to notes of spice and ripe raspberries. Medium-bodied, it’s a great appellation wine, with ripe tannins and a great finish. Drink 2024-2036. A few thousand cases were produced.

94 points, Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck (Aug 2024)

So elegantly structured that its deep complexity sneaks up on you. Flavors of raspberry and cherry mix with crushed stone and black tea accents as this builds tension toward refined tannins. Drink now through 2033. 1,770 cases made.

94 points, Tim Fish, Wine Spectator (Feb 2025)

The 2022 Pinot Noir Estate lifts from the glass with a flower shop bouquet complicated by incense, crushed stones and lavender-laced blackberries. This is soothingly round with cool-toned red berry fruits and tactile mineral tones elevated by brisk acidity. Inner violet and rose tones resonate through the long and potent finale as the 2022 finishes gently tannic and spicy.

93 points, Eric Guido, Vinous (Aug 2024)

Fleshy and blue-fruited, this Estate Pinot Noir comes from an array of blocks in the Lingua Franca estate sites. Smoky violets and turned earth leap forth with savoury notes of raspberry leaf and a mineral tone of wet cement. The palate is lushly fruited with fleshy blue bramble fruits, alongside flavours of plum skins, black tea and a mouthful of dried lavender and mountain herbs. Delightfully savoury and fresh.

Really beautiful and so clear and vivid. Plum, peach, strawberry and stone aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied with clear and poised fruit and fine and polished tannins and a refined and crafted finish. Already so beautiful to taste (drink) but there’s such balance and presence in the wine. Drink after 2028 but hard not to touch now.

This MGA is located on the steep hill that rises from Barolo toward the village of La Morra, and vines sit between 390 to 480 meters in elevation. The M. Marengo 2020 Barolo Bricco delle Viole offers a delicate bouquet with proverbial violet-like aromas that filter through redcurrant and ripe cherry. There is a hint of something spicy in this vintage that recalls pink peppercorn or toasted herb. The tannins are strong, and there's good acidity with a velveteen close. Arguably the most dynamic producer in southwest France, Gerard Bertrand's stable of estates form the backbone of the winegrowing traditions in the regions around the foothills of the Pyrenees. As dramatic a winegrowing landscape as you'll find, this region has been home to the vine since the ancient Romans and Phoenicians fought over it. Chateau l'Hospitalet in the coastal La Clape AOC is a marvelous property, part resort, part vineyard, and part nature preserve, where you'll find some of the most definitive wines of the appellation.

The 2021 l'Hospitaliet Rouge, a blend of Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvedre, is "a gorgeous wine that is dripping with finesse" per Wine Enthusiast and "a classic at this address" according to Wine Advocate. Likewise, the 2021 Blanc, made from Bourboulenc, Grenache Blanc, Vermentino, and Viognier, is "plush and inviting, with warm spice details and a honeyed note on the mineral-rich, racy finish" as described in Wine Spectator's 92-point review. If you're a fan of eminently classic Rhone-style wines with their own signature character, look no further.

This poised red blend alternates between black cherry and blackberry on the nose with smoky undertones of sage brush, rosehip and red currant peppered throughout. Concentrated red fruit takes center stage on the palate of this gorgeous wine that is dripping with finesse and is supported by savory notes of dried rosemary and garigue.

A blend of unknowns proportions of Grenache Noir, Mourvèdre and Syrah, all vinified separately, the 2021 La Clape Chateau L'Hospitalet Grand Vin reveals a dark, complex bouquet of ripe dark berries, spices, licorice and chocolate mingled with delicate notes of oak. Described over recent vintages as “one of Bordeaux’s stars” by Antonio Galloni of Vinous, these high scoring 98-100 pt. selections from Chateau Les Carmes Haut-Brion are among Pessac-Leognan’s most unique and age worthy blends from three top vintages, reflecting Les Carmes Haut-Brion’s “distinctive, Cabernet Franc-driven DNA” according to the Wine Advocate’s William Kelley and all incredibly priced well below its First Growth neighbors.

Situated just a few rows of houses away from Chateau Haut-Brion, Les Carmes Haut Brion was once part of the First Growth with roots dating back to the 16th century, enjoying a stratospheric rise in quality led by the former winemaker of iconic Rhone producer M. Chapoutier Guillaume Pouthier along with renowned consultant Stephane Derenoncourt under the ownership of Patrice Pichet since 2010. Described as “a magical terroir” by Jeb Dunnuck, the Grand Vin is sourced from the top 7.6 hectares of the estate’s sustainably farmed 30 hectares of vines planted mostly to Cabernet Franc and Merlot with about a fifth Cabernet Sauvignon, the best terroir near the Chateau boasting Cab Franc vines dating back to World War II. Declared “a dead ringer for Haut-Brion” by Jeb Dunnuck, the magnificent 100 pt. 2018 Chateau Les Carmes Haut-Brion is a blend of 37% Cabernet Franc, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon and 29% Merlot matured in 75% new French oak barrels along with 16% foudres and 9% in terracotta amphoras for 24 months, revealing intensely aromatic, concentrated earthy black fruit with crushed stone and seamless, supple tannins, described as a “wine of dazzling intensity and stature” by Antonio Galloni of Vinous and summed up as “a total knockout” built to deliver the goods over the next 30 plus years. A blend of 48% Cabernet Franc, 28% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24% Merlot aged for 24 months in 84% new French oak barrels with 7% in foudres and 9% in terracotta amphoras, the elegant 98 pt. 2019 Chateau Les Carmes Haut-Brion is called “a gorgeous 2019” by Inside Bordeaux’s Jane Anson layering fresh, luscious aromatic fruit with refined, integrated tannins and boasting “a drinkability that makes you want a glass now, but could happily be enjoyed decades from now” according to Decanter’s Georgina Hindle, ranking #18 on Decanter’s Top Wines of 2023. Described as a “heavenly wine” that “you probably couldn't have too much of in the cellar” by Jeb Dunnuck, the full-bodied 2020 Chateau Les Carmes Haut-Brion is a blend of 40% Cabernet Franc, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon and 26% Merlot aged in 80% new French oak barrels along with 11% in foudres and 9% in terracotta amphoras for 24 months, yielding a thrilling and exquisitely balanced blend summed up by Vinous critic Neal Martin as “a serious Les Carmes Haut-Brion with a very long future ahead.”

Summing up the magical, riveting qualities of Chateau Les Carmes Haut-Brion, Jeb Dunnuck offers unequivocal advice: “Believe the hype,” these top vintages of Chateau Les Carmes Haut-Brion promising the epic ageability of its First Growth neighbor and value priced for Bordeaux collectors to stock the cellar at a fraction of the price.

98WI 98JD 97V 97JS 97JA 96WA

The 2019 Les Carmes Haut-Brion is made from 50% Cabernet Franc, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 16% Merlot, with 70% whole-bunch fermentation. It has undergone two years' aging in 90% new oak, and 10% amphorae. Deep garnet-purple colored, it slowly emerges from the glass to offer a powerful nose of pure cassis, fresh, juicy blackberries, and plum preserves with hints of pencil shavings, fallen leaves, crushed rocks, and rose petals, plus a hint of charcuterie. Medium-bodied, the palate really packs a punch of fruit, supported by fantastic tension and very firm, ripe, grainy tannins, finishing very long and layered. A tongue-tingling wine, it has lots of texture interest from grapes, stems, and oak.

I wasn't able to taste the 2019 Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion from barrel, but it certainly brings the goods from bottle. Deep ruby/purple-hued, with a smorgasbord-like array of red, blue, and black fruits as well as violets, candied flowers, tobacco, and sappy herbs, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a deep, layered, concentrated mouthfeel, flawless balance, and that rare mix of power and elegance that truly great Pessac can deliver. Showing the more elegant style of the vintage, it checks in behind the magical, perfect 2018 but is very much in the style of the 2016. Readers will love having this beauty in the cellar, and it will evolve for 40-50 years if stored correctly. Hats off to winemaker Guillaume Pouthier for another thrilling wine.

98 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Apr 2022)

Technical Director Guillaume Pouthier turned out another stellar wine with the 2019 Les Carmes Haut-Brion. Elegant, polished and wonderfully nuanced to the core, the 2019 dazzles right out of the gate. Whole clusters enhance a whole range of Cabernet Franc inflections in a wine that is immediately seductive. On the palate, the 2019 is creamy and textured. Plum, blood orange, spice, mocha and dried herbs lend an exotic quality that is so alluring. The 2019 is a mysterious, totally seductive wine that no one who is serious about Bordeaux will want to miss. To be sure, Les Carmes is far from typical, but it is incredibly unique. Its longevity is likely to be measured in multiples of decades. Quite simply, I loved it.

97+ points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Feb 2022)

What a great nose with such complexity of blackberry, forest floor, mushroom and bark. Like walking in a deep forest. Full-bodied with a dense palate, yet it remains energetic and focused. Very fine texture. Flavorful finish. Extremely persistent. Fantastic young 2019. Try after 2028.

97 points, James Suckling (Dec 2022)

Rippling violet and peony waves alongside creamy blueberry and raspberry fruits, this is a gorgeous 2019 that continues a strong run of vintages at the estate. Slate-textured, salt-licked stones, rosemary and saffron-edged, white truffle spice. Takes its time and stretches out through the palate, tingling and enticing. Technical director Guillaume Pouthier has created something here that stands on its own, with complexity and nuance. Give it a full five or six years before opening. 3.59ph. 60% stems, and once again you see the difference it makes not only in nuance and philosophy but also in the actual physical properties of the wine.

97 points, Jane Anson (Feb 2022)

The 2019 Les Carmes Haut-Brion has turned out very well in bottle. Mingling aromas of plums and cassis with notions of blood orange, warm spices and new oak, it's full-bodied, velvety and seamless, with an ample core of bright, succulent fruit that's framed by an elegantly muscular chassis of ripe, powdery tannins and lively acids. Concluding with a long, expansive finish, it's reminiscent of a more giving, extroverted version of Pouthier's superb 2016. As is now the rule at this address, some whole bunches were retained during maceration, and the wine saw a long élevage in a variety of vessels, from classic 225-liter Bordeaux barriques to foudres and amphorae. The blend is dominated by 42% Cabernet Franc, complemented by 31% Cabernet Sauvignon and the balance Merlot.

2020 Mario Marengo Barolo (750ml)
Nebbiolo from Barolo, Piedmont, Italy
B-21 Top Recommendation

Described as “consistently outstanding” by Vinous critic Galloni, these top scoring 95 plus point 2020 Barolo selections from Mario Marengo are among the region’s best values, an array of vineyard expressive Barolo from entry level to Cru reflecting the characteristic “grace, elegance and understatement” of an outstanding Piedmont vintage according to critic Galloni and unbeatably priced whether choosing a favorite or mixing a case.

Boasting a history in the region dating back over a century, Marengo’s small 6-hectare estate includes old vine holdings in the Brunate and Bricco delle Viole Cru’s, its new cellars in Serradenari now run by fourth generation Marco and his wife Jenny along with their son Stefano. Crafted under the advisement of legendary consulting enologist Beppe Ca’Viola, the elegant 95 pt. 2020 Mario Marengo Barolo is a blend across the estate's four top La Morra vineyards, yielding “a very authentic portrait of this Barolo village known for delicate, floral and softly graceful expressions of Barolo” according to the Wine Advocate’s Monica Larner. Sourced from a steep one hectare parcel in one of Barolo’s highest-elevation vineyard Cru’s, the ethereal 97 pt. 2020 Marengo Barolo Bricco delle Viole comes from Nebbiolo vines averaging over 70 years of age, its intoxicating aromatic spiced fruit beautifully balancing powerful, supple tannins that’s “hard not to touch now” according to James Suckling while promising another decade or more of pleasurable drinking. Reflecting “the characteristic power and determination of the Brunate Cru” according to the Wine Advocate’s Monica Larner, the full-bodied 97 pt. 2020 Mario Marengo Barolo Brunate was sourced from 1.2 hectares of Nebbiolo planted in 1942, offering dark and sultry fruit with earthy aromas and fresh minerality and solidly built for decades of evolution.

An array of artisan crafted gems produced in small amounts, Antonio Galloni of Vinous describes these 2020 Mario Marengo selections as “stylish Barolos that stand out for their supreme balance,” this offer a rare opportunity for Barolo collectors seeking outstanding value to stock the cellar with stunning Barolo for an incredible bargain price.

Lovely candied strawberry, rose petal, citrus and sandalwood aromas follow through to a medium to full body with chewy and rich tannins and a vivid finish. Nicely done. Drink after 2027.

With a hint of hot-vintage ripeness on the nose, the M. Marengo 2020 Barolo wraps up nicely over the senses with pleasant aromas, soft fruit, cherry, cranberry and broader sensations that envelope the senses in an impactful way. The wine has a clean minerality or earthy note that dovetails into gentle tannins. There is a pretty floral profile to match, with hydrangea and violet. Production is 12,500 bottles.

What happens when you combine one of Napa's great modern vintages and one of its most beloved cult collectible icons? Pure perfection, also known as the 2021 Quintessa Proprietary Red. This towering expression of a Napa standard bearer has racked up one superlative after another in the critical sphere, led by a 100-point mark from Wine Enthusiast.

"An exquisite wine ... refined, detailed and delicious, with as much elegance as energy." - Wine Enthusiast

Augustin Huneeus' superb estate just off the Silverado Trail in Rutherford is perfectly suited to spectacular Cabernet Sauvignon wines, and the Proprietary Red blend is always a ringing testament to the Rutherford AVA's singular style. Adding icing to the cake, the now benchmark 2021 vintage gave the winemaking team virtually perfect raw materials from which to craft this legend in the making. Backing up that triple-digit score, the 2021 also boasts near-perfect praise from James Suckling, Jeb Dunnuck, and Decanter, further affirming it as "another gorgeous wine" and one of the top cellar-worthy buys of the 2021 Napa campaign. As if you needed any more convincing, we've also sourced this parcel at an unheard-of price that you won't find anywhere else in the country, so best make room for a new centerpiece in the California section of your cellar, as you're going to want to stack this one in multiples.

100WE 99JS 98JD 98D

An exquisite wine, relying primarily on Cabernet Sauvignon from a single estate. Aromas of lavender, dried herbs and grapefruit pith combine with flavors of firm fruits and cocoa on a structure of abundant, powder-fine tannin and a mouthwatering finish. This wine is refined, detailed and delicious, with as much elegance as energy. Best 2026–2040.

100 points, Elaine Chukan Brown, Wine Enthusiast (Jul 2024)

So much graphite and volcanic character on the nose with metal shavings and gunpowder. Black ink, iron and rust, too. Blackberry and blackcurrant undertones. Full-bodied but not overpowering, with chewy and juicy tannins that are long and very subtle. Superb finish. From biodynamic grapes with Demeter certification. 91% cabernet sauvignon, 4% cabernet franc, 3% carmenere, 1% merlot, and 1% petit verdot. Drinkable now, but better in 2027.

99 points, James Suckling (Dec 2023)

Lastly, the 2021 Proprietary Red was just bottled in July of this year and checks in as 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, 3% Carmenere, and the rest Petit Verdot and Merlot, brought up in 64% new French oak. It offers pure blue fruits, spring flowers, violets, and spicy oak, with a beautiful chalky, mineral note that comes through more on the palate. It's elegant, full-bodied, has ultra-fine tannins, good acidity, and terrific length. It's another gorgeous wine that will evolve for 15+ years.

98 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Feb 2024)

The 2021 Quintessa Red Wine is a compact, coiled-up, polished red. Intensely aromatic and perfumed, it leads with a distinct burst of cast-iron minerality, dusty sage, red and blackberry fruits, and perfumed rose petals. Medium to full-bodied with a dense core of succulent boysenberry fruit, plums, and kirsch, all of which have tremendous staying power matched only by the wine's burly, robust and muscular tannins, which offer a real contrast to the supreme elegance of this wine. More time in the bottle is needed to let these tannins soften. If you open it before 2025, let it breathe several hours ahead of time, perhaps even double-decant it. 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, 2% Carmenere, 1% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot aged 22 months in 65% new French oak and 3% terracotta amphora.

Described by Jeb Dunnuck as an estate “firing on all cylinders,” there's no doubt that Super Second Chateau Rauzan-Segla ranks at the top of the Margaux appellation, these high scoring Left Bank blends from outstanding recent vintages offering First Growth depth and cellar worthy complexity at a fraction of the price.

Located a short walk from the village of Margaux, Chateau Rauzan-Segla has been owned by the Wertheimer family of the fashion house Chanel since 1984, the estate undergoing a “no expense spared” restoration and revitalization that has fueled its steady rise in quality over the past two decades. Crafted by former Krug and Cheval des Andes winemaker Nicolas Audebert, the Grand Vin was sourced from the estate’s 70 hectares of organically farmed vineyards throughout the appellation with some parcels close to First Growth Chateau Margaux and aged in mostly new French oak for 18 months.

Living up to the Chateau’s rising star reputation as “an estate that can do no wrong” according to Jeb Dunnuck, these lush Chateau Rauzan-Segla blends boast refined, polished tannins that promise longevity, this offer a perfect opportunity for Bordeaux fans to stock the cellar with top scoring values rivalling its First Growth peers at a best on the market price.

The 2020 Rauzan-Ségla is showing brilliantly in bottle. Wafting from the glass with aromas of cassis and minty blackberries mingled with violets and licorice, it's medium to full-bodied, suave and seamless, with a deep core of vibrant fruit, beautifully refined tannins and a harmonious, integrated profile that exudes elegance. A wine of immense character and refinement, it's the best vintage from this estate in recent times.

98 points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate (Apr 2023)

The 2020 Château Rauzan-Ségla is pure Margaux brilliance, and this beautifully elegant wine embodies the best of the vintage. Revealing a deep ruby/purple hue as well as a great bouquet of blackcurrants, black cherries, lead pencil, sandalwood, smoked tobacco, and hints of incense, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a layered, seamless mouthfeel, integrated acidity, and a great finish. It offers pleasure today (although it closes down with extended air) but deserves 5-7 years of bottle age and will evolve for 30 years or more. This is clearly in the same league as the 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2019. Tasted on multiple occasions with consistent results.

98 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Mar 2023)

Juicy and lively fragrance on the nose – so perfumed and alluring. Delicate and pure on the palate, crystalline yet with such intensity. A rush of creamy tangy strawberries, herbal-edged raspberries and plum fruit lined with salty minerality gives the nuance and detail. It’s lightly framed with well integrated tannins that are fine and firm, tense just giving some tightness on the mid-palate, a sense of compactness, but then it opens again towards the finish. Cool and ethereal, this exudes charm and confidence. Extremely well made and totally seductive. I love the juiciness and sense of joyfulness, but it’s also beguiling as it deepens and grows in layers of chalk, slate, bramble fruits, perfume and florality. Another excellent wine from Rauzan with delicacy, detall and drinkability. Stunning.

98 points, Georgina Hindle, Decanter (Jan 2023)

The 2020 Rauzan-Ségla is a huge, explosive wine. Black cherry, plum, chocolate, licorice, smoke and incense are some of the many notes that infuse the 2020 with tremendous richness. With élevage, the 2020 has grown into a huge, brooding wine endowed with notable presence. There's great purity and class here. The 2020 is a powerful, brooding Rauzan-Ségla for readers who can be patient. Very patient. Tasted two times.

97 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Feb 2023)

A very polished red with blackberry, black olive, walnut, and crushed stone aromas that follow through to a medium to full body with polished, velvety tannins that go on for minutes. Surprisingly open and so attractive. Wonderful length to this. Needs four to five years to open. Best after 2026.

97 points, James Suckling (Nov 2023)

A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, and 1% Cabernet Franc, the 2020 Rauzan-Segla has a deep garnet-purple color. It charges out of the gate with energetic notes of fresh blackberries, cassis, and black cherries, leading to hints of clove oil, violets, and underbrush. The medium-bodied palate has a plush, fine-grained texture and seamless freshness supporting the classically styled flavors, finishing long and perfumed.

97 points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Independent (Mar 2024)

This wine has a fine structure, with dense tannins from the Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend. It is a full wine, the spicy character mingling with black currant flavors. The wine has an excellent future. Drink from 2027.

Edge of smoked and salted caramel, along with blackberry, cassis, bilberry, liquourice root, incense, giving depth and character. "...there's a compact feel to this firm red but also a sense of balance and integration." - Alison Napjus, Wine Spectator

As dominant as Rioja is in the Spanish collectible space, its penchant for delivering outstanding everyday values is also unmatched. The latest entry proving the point is Ramirez de la Piscina's charming 92-point 2020 Selección Reserva, a rock-solid performer for the cellar or the table at an easy case-buy price. The estate's style is purely reflective of the terroir in Ábalos and San Vicente de la Sonsierra, yielding wines of chalky finesse, refined tannins, and old-school complexity. For the Reserva, however, they take a decidedly New World approach in the oak regimen and fruit profile. James Suckling sums it up as "A dense and full-bodied Rioja ... Chewy and firm, with wood-soaked tannins, yet it doesn’t overpower the rich dark berry and plum fruit." If you're a fan of Rioja, this is a razor-sharp buy to add to the cellar for future enjoyment, but it can also occupy a starring role in your regular rotation thanks to our must-see, sub-$20 price.

Up front there's a compact feel to this firm red but also a sense of balance and integration. Opens in the glass, revealing a fragrant overtone of dried flowers, eucalyptus, star anise and mocha, with flavors of plumped cherry and baked plum that linger on the finish. Best from 2026 through 2035. 1,000 cases made, 300 cases imported.

92 points, Alison Napjus, Wine Spectator (Mar 2025)

The 2020 Reserva Selección is Tempranillo sourced from San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Ábalos, Rioja Alta. Aged for 16 months in new oak barrels (50/50 American and French), this purple wine presents caramel and lactic notes, along with enveloping vanilla, cedar and coconut tones atop a black-fruited core. Dry, creamy and juicy on the palate, the fine-grained, fairly chalky mouthfeel lingers with an oaky flavor. This is a New World expression of Rioja red.

2023 Domaine Joblot Givry Clos du Cellier Aux Moines 1er Cru (750ml)
Pinot Noir from Givry, Burgundy, France
B-21 Top Recommendation

"...the Joblot family produces serious wines with substance and structure that develop beautifully in bottle ... this reference-point domaine is at the top of its game." - William Kelley, Wine Advocate

During our November trip to Burgundy last year, we got acquainted with a number of new discoveries, but we also checked in with a few old favorites, among them the Givry benchmark Domaine Joblot. As sharp Burgundy collectors know, the scarcity and high prices in the Côte d'Or offer the perfect motivation to look further afield for smart buys that maximize your collectible dollar, and the "satellite appellations" of the Côte Chalonnaise are getting an increasing level of attention.

Now under fourth-generation proprietor Juliette Joblot and domaine director Hélène Sarkis, Domaine Joblot continues to set the pace in the Givry appellation. Tasting the line-up of excellent 2023s with Hélène, we'd have to agree with William Kelley's assessment above: this domaine is firing on all cylinders. Among the red 1er crus, the going theme is "lovely and understated" as Burghound's Allen Meadows puts it, although each wine has its individual charm (and its own Sweet Spot and Outstanding designations from Meadows).

The 2023 Servoisine 1er Cru and 2023 Clos du Cellier Aux Moines 1er Cru are quintessential expressions of the vintage at Joblot, sculpted iterations of a classic red Burgundy built for the cellar. The difference comes in the slightly darker personality of the Cellier Aux Moines. Where the Servoisine is a bit brighter, more effusive, and more approachable in youth, the Cellier Aux Moines is coiled up in its deeper, more concentrated fruit, needing a few years to unwind and start to show its cards. But when it does, you'll find a thrilling Givry 1er Cru that Burgundy purists will love.

In a market where 1er cru red Burgundies with real class and terroir signature are typically found in the triple-digit price range, these sub-$45 specimens are razor-sharp buys are now in stock and offering tons of upside potential, at domaine-direct, market-best pricing.

92AK 92BH

Prior to our visit to the domaine in early November, I hadn’t experienced Joblot’s wines in at least a decade, so I was eager to check the current renditions against my memory of the classic vintages from the 2000s and 2010s. The 2023s met my expectations and then some. Like all the 1er cru 2023s, the Cellier aux Moines starts off shy but not without its austere charm, with latent aromatic depth giving a clear indication of its pedigree. Deeper red fruit than the Servoisine on the nose, it’s nonetheless also more closed, but give it an aggressive swirl and the south-facing vineyard site shines through beautifully. The depth carries through to the palate, with pure but closed fruit showing darker inflections (black cherry and red plum), very fine balance, and a firm mineral core to support cellaring. Like the Servoisine, this will be a fascinating expression in the due course of time.

92 points, Andrew Kitz, B-21 Burgundy Buyer (Nov 2024)

Here too the nose is completely dominated by pungent oak and reduction. The delicious and vibrant medium weight flavors possess a beguilingly supple, even velvety texture that contrasts moderately with the dusty, firm, and youthfully austere bitter pit fruit-inflected finale. This is also lovely and understated. *Sweet Spot, Outstanding*

2023 Zilliken Riesling Saarburger Rausch Kabinett (750ml)
Riesling from Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, Germany
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

"Dorothee Zilliken once again managed to portray the ethereal, almost weightless and veil-like style of Saar Riesling for which the house is famed." - Anne Krebhiel, Vinous

The Middle Mosel gets the lion's share of attention in the region, but German Riesling insiders know that some of the finest expressions for the money can be found along the Saar tributary, a narrow river valley meeting the Upper Mosel from the south. The steep cliffs and high winds are perilous viticultural challenges, and the small Saar river doesn't provide any of the meso-climatic advantages found on the Mosel itself. But the south-facing vineyards enjoy the ideal exposition and slope to ripen grapes, and the results are some of the most crystalline, elegant Rieslings in the world.

The 2023 vintage played perfectly to the Saar's advantage, with the valley avoiding much of the harvest rains that fell on the rest of the Mosel. Rausch's south-southwest facing parcels of broken Greywacke and Devonian slate are the perfect foundations for Zilliken's style. The JS95 Kabinett is "intense and complex, gorgeously saline and filigreed" according to Wine Advocate, while the double 96-point Spätlese is "elegant, beautifully clear, luminous, intense and yet so light," perfectly encapsulating what makes the finest Saar expressions stand out from the their contemporaries. Zilliken's wines from this famed vineyard are always exemplary offerings that stand at the pinnacle of the quality pyramid, so collectors and enthusiasts shouldn't miss these two cellar contenders that will shine for decades.

95JS 94WA 94V

A great riesling kabinett with terrific vitality and extremely elegant acidity that give this a fantastic balance and accentuate the purity. Glides over the finish dispensing chamomile, mint and lemon balm aromas like a shower of rain. A delicate wine with great aging potential. Drink or hold.

95 points, Stuart Pigott, James Suckling (Oct 2024)

The 2023 Rausch Kabinett is very precise and clear on the well-defined, precise and filigreed nose that intermingles very fine slate and bright fruit aromas. Juicy and savory on the palate, this is an intense and complex, gorgeously saline and filigreed Kabinett with black tea with milk and brown rock sugar aromas. It is weightless yet intense and irresistible. 8% stated alcohol and just below 50 grams per liter of residual sugar. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in August 2024 from AP 4 24.

94 points, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate (Oct 2024)

The 2023 Riesling Saarburger Rausch Kabinett is like a sun-ripened, red-cheeked peach: aromatic, juicy and so scented. The palate drips with juice, ripe and smooth, yet always understated despite its exquisitely pure aroma. Zestiness channels the finish, but the shining, aromatic peach absolutely defines the character of this tender wine.

Domaine Charvin is a first-rate, under-the-radar favorite that routinely lands on the short lists of Châteauneuf insiders everywhere. The domaine's vineyard in the south of the appellation could produce a ripe, powerhouse style, but Laurent Charvin's methods make these wines some of the region's most elegant and refined, vintage after vintage.

"Laurent Charvin is, in an inexplicable way, one of the most underappreciated vignerons in Châteauneuf-du-Pape." - Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate

His Midas touch is amply evident in this stunning 2022 Châteauneuf that notched a whopping 98 points from James Suckling's Rhône critic, Stuart Pigott, who captures the style perfectly: "This astonishing Chateauneuf-du-Pape has the enormous aromatic complexity and subtlety that we expect from Grand Cru red Burgundies." Yohan Castaing likewise lauds it as "one of my favorites this year," going on to extol its "long and ethereal" finish and "delicate tannic frame."

Not only will hardcore Rhône fans go head over heels for the "sensuality, elegance, finesse and an ethereal character" of this beguiling red, but Burgundy fans and collectors can find much to love in a beautiful expression with tons of cross-over appeal.

This astonishing Chateauneuf-du-Pape has the enormous aromatic complexity and subtlety that we expect from Grand Cru red Burgundies. Enormous concentration and ample richness on the palate, and the structure behind this is no less impressive. Stacks of very fine tannins. The black and red berry fruit washes over you in a huge wave in the breathtaking licorice finish. So much drive and freshness. Enormous aging potential. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

2022 François Chidaine Montlouis Clos du Breuil (750ml)
Chenin Blanc from Montlouis, Loire, France
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

"... the most celebrated domaine in the appellation of Montlouis-sur-Loire." - Rebecca Gibb, Vinous

Once an eager upstart in a largely unheard-of Loire appellation, François Chidaine now enjoys quasi-cult status among Loire enthusiasts, and for good reason. His early adoption of organic and biodynamic farming, combined with incredible old-vine plots of Chenin, have resulted in wines that are "impeccably balanced, textured, and layered" and can compete on every level with those of the more famed appellations of Vouvray and Savennières. Thirty years in, Chidaine is fully dialed in on his viticulture, having fully abandoned plowing and tilling, which now allows his singular vineyards to express themselves fully in the wines.

Today's pair of 2022 standouts is emblematic of Chidaine's style and masterful touch with the Chenin varietal, as well as the spectacular terroirs that make up his portfolio. The double 93-point Clos du Breuil, sourced from 40- to 80-year-old vines on clay and flinty silex over a chalk bedrock, is classically mineral-driven, "a sophisticated dry Chenin – pure yet precise, with the influence of flint playing its part." The WS93 Les Choisilles, named for a particular type of black flint that permeates the three plots, shows somewhat riper, rounder edges to its fruit, while still maintaining "wonderful balance and elegance, with the lightness of texture that Chenin achieves in Montlouis," as described by Decanter.

Like all great Chenins, Chidaine's wines are made for the cellar and will certainly benefit from patience, but if you're the impatient type, you'll still be richly rewarded by popping a cork today. If anything, it'll show you just how much you have to look forward to as you let the rest of the bottles in your cellar reach their full potential.

93V

The 2022 Montlouis Clos du Breuil is a sophisticated dry Chenin Blanc—pure yet precise, with the influence of flint playing its part. Ripe pear, peach and floral flavors make this an attractive style. Eleven months on lees contributed to an appealing texture, followed up with well-handled phenolics—a feat, considering the skins were so thick and there was so little juice in the berries due to drought.

2022 Bernard Fouquet Domaine des Aubuisieres Le Petit Clos (750ml)
Chenin Blanc from Vouvray, Loire, France
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

Over his many decades at the renowned Domaine de Aubuisieres, Bernard Fouquet has done as much as anyone to define the Vouvray appellation on the world stage, and the wines have long been fan-favorite best-sellers at B-21. Having entered retirement in 2023, Fouquet handed his treasured domaine to a new generation of talent in winemaker Charles Lesaffre, who continues Fouquet's excellent track record for quality and value.

We've cultivated quite the fanbase for the domaine's entry-level Cuvée de Silex, and after a recent tasting of the newly arrived 2023 vintage, we can confidently say it's another value standout that will thrill long-time fans.Made from 60-year-old vines on ... you guessed it, silex soils. Flinty and mineral to the core, the 2023 Silex conveys its terroir in exceptional fashion. We'd also be remiss if we didn't highlight the domaine's marvelous single-vineyard bottlings, like the 2022 Le Peitt Clos. Made from a coveted, two-hectare site on argilo-calcaire (limestone) soils, which was reaquired from Domaine Huet in 2013, the 2022 Le Petit Clos likewise shows its origins in spades. Rounder and riper than the Silex (thanks in part to vinification in sandstone amphorae), this wine displays the fuller side of Chenin Blanc – "deep, full-bodied, focused and complex, with superb depth at the core, lovely soil reflection and grip, zesty acids and just a kiss of sweetness on the attack," as described by John Gilman of View From the Cellar.

Not often do we find benchmark examples like these with top-tier pedigree for under $25, but this pair more than maintains the world-class value reputation that has made Aubuisieres such an admired domaine for our clients over the years.

The 2022 Vouvray “le Petit Clos” from Monsieur Fouquet is a lovely wine that seems to hover between Sec and Demi-Sec in style in this vintage, as it comes in at 12.5 percent octane, but seems to carry just a touch more residual sugar on the palate than the lovely le Marigny bottling. The bouquet is deep and complex, offering up scents of sweet quince, a touch of pineapple, a refined base of chalky soil, lemon peel, incipient notes of honeycomb and a lovely topnote of orange blossoms. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, focused and complex, with superb depth at the core, lovely soil reflection and grip, zesty acids and just a kiss of sweetness on the attack. The finish is long, beautifully balanced and vibrant. This is another excellent example of the lovely 2022 vintage in Vouvray.

2013 Chateau Suduiraut Ex-Chateau 2022 (750ml)

Pale to medium straw-gold in color, the 2013 Suduiraut slides seductively out of the glass with opulent notions of Seville orange marmalade, apricot preserves, and allspice, followed by wafts of jasmine tea, chamomile, and almond croissant. The palate is decadently rich yet light on its feet, with intense exotic spice and stone fruit preserves flavors and a very long finish.

2021 Beaulieu Vineyards Georges de Latour Private Reserve (750ml)
Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa, California
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

Today's private offer needs little to no introduction. The 2021 Georges de Latour Private Reserve from Beaulieu is another major milestone in one of the most legednary track records in Napa Valley history.

"The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Georges de Latour is outrageously beautiful. A wine of statuesque build and class, the 2021 represents another major step forward for BV." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Following on the heels of star-studded vintages like 2018 and 2019, the 2021 is another example of how this iconic estate continues to evolve and refine even its flagship bottling, a wine that could rest on its laurels, if ever there were one. Antonio Galloni asserts "BV is arguably one of the most improved estates in Napa Valley over the last few years" under winemaker Trevor Durling, and the Georges de Latour is exhibit A. Shorter maceration times and fewer barrels used during vinification have tempered the wine's famously stern and tannic character, but this by no means indicates that its famous longevity is in question. Instead, the 2021 Georges de Latour offers collectors a level of sophistication and elegance that simply adds one more dimension to one of the world's great Cabernets. With three 98-point scores carrying the critical line, the 2021 "does everything right" according to Jeb Dunnuck, and avid collectors of this Napa legend will be thrilled to have it in their cellars.

Lastly, the flagship 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Georges De Latour Private Reserve is in the same ballpark as the 2019 and is an incredibly elegant yet concentrated 2021 that does everything right. Purple-hued, with ample cassis, wild sage, graphite, and darker chocolate-like aromatics, it picks up a Graves-like gravelly earth character with air and is full-bodied, has ripe, polished tannins, beautiful overall balance, and a great finish. As with many of the top 2021s, it s a touch reserved and closed and needs 4-5 years of bottle age, but will drink well for 30 years.

98+ points, Jeb Dunnuck (Dec 2023)

The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Georges de Latour is outrageously beautiful. A wine of statuesque build and class, the 2021 represents another major step forward for BV. Black cherry, plum, spice, new leather, menthol, mocha and gravel soar from the glass. This is an especially refined vintage for this flagship wine. Here, too, there is plenty of tannin, but it is not anywhere near as perceptible as it was in the past. Shorter macerations and gentler overall winemaking, including fewer lots vinified in barrel, have elevated the Georges meaningfully.

98 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Dec 2023)

Intense aromas of iodine, blackcurrants, cedar, sandalwood and mint follow through to a medium to full body with silky tannins that spread across the palate and expand in a balanced and harmonized way. Hints of chocolate and fruit at the end. Some tar. Drinkable but better in a few years. Try in 2027 and beyond.

98 points, James Suckling (Jan 2024)

What a spectacular showing of this iconic wine in the terrific 2021 vintage. Deep ruby with a purple hue, it just exudes elegance and statesmanship. It has a noble quality to it that begins with its precise and lifted bouquet of dried rose petals, kirsch, Blackberry, and cassis fruit interlaced with sagebrush, sandalwood, and toasty cedarwood. Perfectly medium to full-bodied, showcasing a dazzling spectrum of silken red and black fruits redolent of strawberry, cherry, plum, and blackberry atop a substantial bed of taut, mineral-tinged tannins. A spine of racy acidity lifts the panoply of fruit, and the finish reveals a plethora of wild herbs, cast iron notes, pastille, and white pepper, nuanced by rich, toasty oak infused with toffee and vanilla bean. It is one of the most satisfying and immediately enjoyable expressions of the Georges de Latour Private Reserve in the last decade. Produced by Trevor Durling, the fourth winemaker to follow in the footsteps of the great André Tchelistcheff.

98 points, Jonathan Cristaldi, Decanter (Apr 2024)

Excellent quality, full of flavour, balanced, cassis, liqourice and cocoa bean, espresso, sage, drawn out through the palate. A wonderful example of an intense, concentrated BV, full of estate signature. Tasted twice. 95% new oak for ageing, 3.64ph, harvest September 25 to October 13.

2022 Bodegas Muga Anden (750ml)
From Rioja, Spain
B-21 Top Recommendation

As a bastion of collectible Rioja, Bodegas Muga produces many of the region's most acclaimed and sought-after collectibles, but their extensive history of reference-point quality extends throughout their line-up, all the way into their entry-level, everyday value standouts.

The 2022 Muga Andén de la Estanción, a blend of Tempranillo and Garnacha, is a classic bang-for-the-buck Spanish red. "Serious despite being approachable," as Wine Advocate's Luis Gutiérrez describes it, the 2022 Andén is a hallmark representaiton of what Rioja does best at the value end of the spectrum. With the vibrant, fresh red fruit character of Tempranillo, touches of spice from the Garnacha, and a pliant, tensile structural base, it's tailor-made for versatility and pleasure, a food-friendly performer and crowd-pleaser par excellence that's easy on the palate and the wallet.

91WA 90JS

The red 2022 El Andén de la Estación comes from their earliest harvest ever. They define it as a modern blend of Tempranillo with 30% Garnacha fermented in stainless steel and concrete and matured in French and Central European oak barrels for 14 months. It has good ripeness and 14.5% alcohol, notes of cassis, licorice and black berry fruit, with a touch of smoke, toast and spice that is quite integrated. It's juicy and young and has a medium to full-bodied palate with abundant, slightly dusty tannins that give it an earthy touch. It's serious despite being approachable, a wine for the by-the-glass and gastronomy markets. It keeps the poise despite the warm and dry conditions from the year. This is produced in a separate winery they bought in Labastida, the first year it was produced there. This is not a small-production cuvée: 298,870 bottles were filled in May 2024.

91 points, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate (Feb 2025)

Lots of dark cherries, spices, ink and a touch of chocolate on the nose. Juicy and slightly chewy on the palate, with a medium body and a medium-long finish. Tempranillo and garnacha. Drink now.
