The wine is/was great! B‑21 lets you know the rating (and the prices which are usually great) so you know what you are getting. I also try to order on a free shipping day. This time it made me a little nervous since the wine box was 10 or so hours late. But it got here, which is what counts (all bottles intact). A local G‑Store has wine sales for 25% off but rarely have wine as good as B‑21's

"Two thousand twenty-one is a superb vintage for Barolo." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

The hype has been going for some time now, but you never know just how good or great a vintage can be until the wines hit the market. Now that the 2021 Barolos are here, it's clear that the early praise and accolades are well warranted.

Apart from a few isolated weather events, the growing season was ideal by modern Barolo standards, with a long cycle and normal harvest time. Normal diurnal temperature shifts and heat patterns also contributed to the incredible overall quality that is becoming evident in the finished wines. As Galloni notes in his comprehensive vintage report, "The 2021 Barolos are finessed, elegant wines that will delight Piedmont fans."

Against this backdrop, we present a staggering array of the vintage's most compelling recent releases, over forty wines spanning entry-level gems and values for near-term enjoyment to cult-caliber cellar performers that will show the 2021 vintage in all its glory decades down the road. Names like Vietti, Vajra, and Gaja dot the landscape, as well as under-the-radar winners like Brezza, Manzone, and Elio Grasso. If this introductory list below tells us one thing, it's that the 2021 Barolo campaign is going to offer immense enjoyment for collectors and Piedmont fans as they stock the cellar with one incredible wine after another.

95V 95JS 94D 93WA 93JD 93WS

The 2021 Barolo Bussia is a heady, beguiling wine. Dark fruit, spice, herbs, licorice and balsamic notes open in a mysterious, complex Barolo that reveals myriad shades of nuance over time. Muscular tannins appear on the mid-palate and finish as this deceptively mid-weight Barolo opens with a bit of coaxing. There's a lot of wine here. I can't wait to see how this ages.

95 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Sep 2025)

A complex and austere wine with sleek aromas of red cherries, red currants, wax, violets and licorice. Full-bodied, it shows velvety tannins, a full-bodied palate, integrated and refreshing acidity and a crisp, chewy finish. A graceful interpretation of Bussia. Drink or hold.

95 points, James Suckling (Oct 2025)

This latest release is progressing beautifully, divulging a little more of its intricacies since I tried it almost a year ago. It offers a heady mélange of alpine blossoms, dusty sage, sweet earth and vanillin. The palate is well endowed with classic Nebbiolo architecture but graciously leaves space for the fruit to expand. Raspberry liqueur is countered by a distinct salinity on the attack. The tannins are taut yet sweet, stretching out to the baking spice finish. Tempting now but should benefit from another year in the bottle.

94 points, Michaela Morris, Decanter (Oct 2025)

The Prunotto 2021 Barolo Bussia (with 20,000 bottles released) is a little shy or closed on first nose and will require extra time in bottle before you pop the cork. This estate has eight hectares of vines in Bussia to source fruit from. It exhibits a lean and delicate consistency with blue flowers, orange peel and redcurrant. There are hints of grilled herb as well. Winemaking is simple, with phases in stainless steel and oak.

93 points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate (Jun 2025)

The 2021 Barolo Bussia is also a medium red color and has a more introspective and serious nose with notes of licorice, dark stones, red cherries, and leather. It fills the palate with ripe tannins, a ripe mid-palate, and a good finish with a note of sweet fruit and a light meaty feel, although it’s very well-integrated into the fabric of the wine. It has a bit more depth in the range and should drink well over the coming 12-15 years.

93 points, Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck (May 2025)

This is light and more on the elegant side, offering cherry, strawberry, hay, green olive and iron flavors. It's lively and resonant, picking up a line of powdery tannins as it winds down on the finish. Vibrant and long in the end. Best from 2029 through 2045. 300 cases imported.

93WS 91JD

Light in color but not intensity, this red is elegant, lacy and well-structured. Green olive, cherry, rose and wild rosemary flavors are underscored by a mineral element, while the texture remains silky and the aftertaste long and juicy. Best from 2028 through 2043. 1,947 cases imported.

93 points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator (Dec 2025)

An elegant and sweetly perfumed offering, the 2021 Barolo pours a transparent medium red color and is a bit shy on opening, with notes of clove, strawberries, cedar, and fresh herbs. The palate has a nice level of tension to balance out its more supple Grenache-like fruit, and it has a zesty lift and light saltiness on the finish. It’s a very charming Barolo to drink over the next 10 years.

96JS 94WA 94WE

This is very powerful and structured, with aromas of black truffles, graphite and hints of dried thyme and cedar. Medium- to full-bodied and chewy yet polished. Hints of terra cotta and dark fruit. The finish goes on and on. March 2024 release. Best after 2028.

96 points, James Suckling (Aug 2024)

The Pio Cesare 2021 Barolo draws fruit from various sites, and like the Barbaresco, you get an excellent portrait of the vintage with balanced acidity, firm tannins and bright primary fruit. There is energy and vitality in this pretty Barolo with dried cherry, iris and subtle dustings of iron ore or rust.

94 points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate (Jun 2025)

Piedmont's stage opens with an elegant pas de deux of blueberries and cherries, pirouetting into a garden scene of just harvested herbs and violet petals. The performance continues as delicate spices weave through the air. Fine but commanding tannins conduct a symphony where fruit takes center stage, framed by earth and saline mineral notes in perfect harmony. A masterful composition that will enchant audiences for years to come. Drink Now - 2040

2021 Petrolo Galatrona (750ml)
Merlot from Val d'Arno di Sopra, Tuscany, Italy
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

Widely considered one of the world's finest collectible Merlots, Petrolo's Galatrona hits astounding heights in this three-vintage mini-vertical. The Galatrona vineyard in the southeast Chianti hills is ideally suited to Merlot, with southeast exposure and loamy clay soils rich in marl, shale, and sandstone that retain plenty of moisture in the hot Tuscan summers. This superb terroir allows for a beautifully expressive wine seemingly regardless of vintage conditions, and what's more it routinely stands along side iconic bottlings like Masseto and Messorio at a mere fraction of their prices.

"The 2023 Galatrona,100% Merlot, is soft, plush and sensual ... not a huge Galatrona
but is instead a wine that impresses with its finesse." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

The 2023 Galatrona is another highlight-reel effort from this elite estate, with 98 points from James Suckling, as well as effusive praise from Antonio Galloni and Decanter. "Absolutely delicious" and "a gorgeous wine" are but a few of the accolades the 2023 has already racked up. The vintage gives us a refined and precise expression of Tuscan Merlot that is built to cruise on finesse rather than power - "One for the cellar," as James Suckling calls it.

"This is just a tremendous wine by any measure." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

The 2021 Galatrona has garnered huge press from across the critical spectrum, with a pair of 98-point scores and a pair of 97-point scores for good measure. Antonio Galloni describes "a feeling of vertical, explosive energy that catapults the 2021 into the stratosphere," while Wine Spectator calls it "seamless and luxuriously saturated ... more about finesse and elegance than power, with a vibrant profile and superlong finish."

"The Petrolo 2019 Galatrona is soft and luscious ... with elegance and sweeping intensity." - Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

Finally, the 2019 Galatrona is a hallmark modern rendition that flirts with perfection to the tune of 99 points from James Suckling, who calls it "muscular, yet agile. Pure and poised. A unique definition of merlot in Tuscany." This exceptional Tuscan vintage is on full display in the balanced, graceful, plush character of the wine, even as it carries the substance to age with the world's best Merlots. The only drawback is the miniscule quantity we have left.

Galatrona's track record is iron-clad, one of the finest in the region and certainly in the top echelon of Italian Bordeaux-varietal wines, and this trio is all teed up to become legends in the making for this iconic Tuscan superstar, at a razor-sharp pricing that's nearly unbeatable in the market.

100FS 98V 98JS #90 Top 100 97WA 97WE 97D 96WS

Dark ruby red colour. Finely spicy on the nose, blackcurrants, fine earthy notes, plus a hint of dried rose petal, some cigar box. On the palate a fruity texture, entwined with hearty, juicy tannin, elegant flow, comes back long and juicy in the finish on fine spicy tones, still a bit young.

100 points, Falstaff (Feb 2024)

The 2021 Galatrona is a fine follow-up to the 2020. In most vintages, Galatrona is very showy right out of the gate. That is not at all the case with the 2021, a wine that is going to need a number of years to be at its finest. Black cherry, plum, mocha, leather, licorice and incense infuse the 2021 with tremendous complexity. More than anything else, I admire a feeling of vertical, explosive energy that catapults the 2021 into the stratosphere. This is a tremendous wine by any measure.

98 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Aug 2023)

The aromas here are very distinct with dried flowers such as lavender and violets. Some sage as well. Black berries and black olive skin. Full-bodied yet linear and energetic with very fine tannins and fantastic length. Fresh and lively in the finish. Merlot. Best after 2026.

98 points, James Suckling (Aug 2023)

#90 - James Suckling Top 100 of 2023

The 2021 Val d'Arno di Sopra Galatrona shows extremely focused aromas, but very generous ones all the while, with soft mint, cherry and stracciatella over a full-bodied texture with soft layers of spice and cedarwood. The wine boasts an elegantly chalky quality to the tannins, but the mouthfeel is so generous, everything irons out beautifully over the palate. It ages in a combination of new and used barrique. Annual production is about 30,000 bottles.

97+ points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate (Mar 2024)

The nose showcases a vast world of savory aromas, from sanguine to metallic to woody to earthy, with cranberries, currants and dark berries providing sweet contrast. A lively palate runs with the warmth of earth and just-ripened fruit, alongside austere tannins that promise ageworthiness. An absolutely acrobatic feat in Merlot.

97 points, Danielle Callegari, Wine Enthusiast (Dec 2023)

Vivid purple in the glass, gorgeous black cherry and blackcurrant aromas with touches of florality - this 100% Merlot smells wonderfully scented and inviting. Smooth, ample, really quite seductive on the palate, sensual almost in the silky but gripping tannins, beautifully ripe blackcurrant and cherry fruit and crunchy, crisp acidity that is not too sharp or too obvious but lifts the palate and gives a thrill and wonderful freshness to the overall expression. Beautifully presented, harmonious, balanced and totally enjoyable from the first to last sip. A gorgeous wine, intense yet energetic, full of flavour and textural nuance. Totally unputdownable, although with lots of potential for improvement over ageing. The wine spent 18 months in French oak tonneaux and barriques, 30% new. 3.56pH.

97 points, Georgina Hindle, Decanter (Jul 2023)

Though seamless and lusciously saturated with black currant, blackberry, violet, iron, tobacco and spice aromas and flavors, this red is also solidly built, with polished tannins. Nevertheless, this is more about finesse and elegance than power, with a vibrant profile and superlong finish. Merlot. Best from 2025 through 2042. 2,917 cases made, 150 cases imported.

98KO 97WA 97WS 97JS 96JD

The 2021 Parafada from Massolino captures the essence of the cru and the vintage thanks to its intensity, structure and radiance. It opens with heady scents of crushed rose petal, camphor, new leather and dark spice while the full-bodied palate delivers succulent raspberry, ripe cherry, licorice and tobacco before a long, savory finish. Firm, fine-grained tannins provide the framework while fresh acidity keeps it vibrant. The best Parada I've had in years from this estate, this is a wine I'd love to have in my own cellar.

98 points, Kerin O'Keefe (Jan 2025)

The Massolino 2021 Barolo Parafada is also from Serralunga d'Alba, although this MGA site reveals a different profile based on flowers and dried herbs. The wine has a botanical feel with crushed oregano that frames cassis, wild cherry and plum. There is a ferrous note of rusty nail that is characteristic of this site and adds another level of complexity. This wine is structured, taut and shows incredible tension.

97 points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate (Jun 2025)

Rich and laced with strawberry, cherry, raspberry, licorice, tar, menthol and mineral flavors, this Barolo is juicy and bursting with energy. Solidly built yet remains harmonious, its dense tannins tempered by the ripe berry aftertaste. Shows fine complexity and freshness. Best from 2030 through 2050. 410 cases made.

97 points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator (Jan 2026)

This is really perfumed, with violets, bark, attractive blue fruit and a touch of cedar. The palate is medium- to full-bodied with some juicy, pleasant fruit that is dominated by youthful, austere tannins that should resolve with time. This should come together in four to five years.

97 points, Jacobo García Andrade, James Suckling (Jan 2025)

A similar red ruby color, the 2021 Barolo Parafada shows off a more contemplative and serious side, opening with aromas of fresh tobacco, ripe cherries, fresh leather, anise, and toasted baking spices. The palate is compact, with a more chiseled structure, featuring ripe tannins that are well-defined, an even spine of acidity, and a good deal of length, along with a more noble feel through the finish. It needs another year or more of cellaring and will keep for two decades. Drink 2027-2047.

The Massolino 2021 Barolo Margheria draws its fruit from Serralunga d'Alba. It reveals aromas of forest berry and wild cherry with candied orange, flint and crushed granite. I also find toasted aniseed at the back. The team at Massolino has done great work managing the tannins that feel quite silky and long, rendering a glossy sheen to the finish.

96 points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate (Jun 2025)

This has lovely aromas of blueberries, pine resin, orange rind and a touch of lavender. The palate is medium- to full-bodied with supple tannins in the context of the vintage. It has a seductive, tender, well-integrated fruit profile that makes it very attractive. Drink or hold.

96 points, Jacobo García Andrade, James Suckling (Jan 2025)

Always the most elegant of the Massolino Barolos, the fragrant 2021 Margheria stuns with enticing scents of wild roses, perfumed berries, botanical herbs and whiffs of freshly tilled soil. Classy and utterly delicious, the radiant palate is loaded with weightless finesse that wraps around raspberry compote, crushed strawberries, star anise and crushed mint while a hint of blood orange lingers on the close. Refined tannins and fresh acidity keep it beautifully balanced.

96 points, Kerin O'Keefe (Jan 2025)

Enticing cherry and raspberry fruit is framed by rose and mineral flavors, all wrapped in a dense texture. There’s a vibrant beam of acidity, and this red is beautifully balanced and well-supported by refined tannins. Shows excellent succulence and length. Best from 2029 through 2049. 716 cases made, 150 cases imported.

95 points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator (Jan 2026)

The 2021 Barolo Margheria has a transparent red hue and reveals a sweetly perfumed bouquet of preserved strawberries, purple flowers, herbes de Provence, and sweet herbs. The palate has more tension than the nose would suggest and has fine, coiled tannins, even acidity, and a refreshing feel with a chalky texture through its balanced and elegant finish. This is a lovely medium-bodied and weightless feeling wine from Massolino to drink over the coming 12-15 years.

The Massolino 2021 Barolo reveals a shiny ruby color and a core of dark fruit. Beyond the plummy fruit is tar, licorice, pressed flower and campfire ash. This wine has a pronounced savory side, yet it all fits squarely into a very delicate and finessed delivery. This is a pretty example of the vintage.

94 points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate (Jun 2025)

Intense, smoky style to this Barolo, dominated by floral aromas, with citrus notes allied to red fruits and gentle spice. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy acidity and tannins which are flexible and not dry, despite the austere finish. Try from 2027.

93 points, James Suckling (Jan 2025)

Engaging from the get-go, the nose offers scents of wild strawberry, violets, tarragon and liquorice. Lovely depth of plush red fruit intertwines with tangy minerals. The tannins are polished and long, drawing from the front of the mouth with graceful ease through to the finish. So elegantly composed. Massolino has put out a beautiful set of 2021s, starting with the estate’s not-to-be missed ‘classic’ Barolo. It is built around the Collaretto MGA with various other holdings in Serralunga. In some vintages, a small part of Parussi makes it in which is why this isn’t declared as a village Barolo.

93 points, Michaela Morris, Decanter (Jan 2025)

The 2021 Barolo from Massolino is a lovely wine. It opens with heady aromas of dog rose, wild red berry and whiffs of botanical herb and new leather. On the elegant, savory palate, taut, fine-grained tannins accompany ripe Morello cherry, star anise and orange peel that give it a tangy finish.

93 points, Kerin O'Keefe (Jan 2025)

A jeweled ruby red color, the 2021 Barolo is expressive on the nose with notes of polished leather, ripe cherries, fresh herbs, and mossy earth. The structure is quite appealing, with mouthwatering, ripe acidity, sweet tannins, and an even feel in a medium-bodied frame that’s gently rounded. It’s a very pretty wine and a nice calling card for the estate in this vintage. Drink 2025-2035.

92 points, Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck (May 2025)

The 2021 Barolo is a fabulous wine that shows both the quality of the year and the very high standards at Massolino. Pliant and expressive, with notable depth, the Barolo is super-impressive. Macerated dark cherry, spice, lavender, menthol and blood orange all build in the glass. What a gorgeous and complete wine this is. The straight Barolo is, without question, the hidden gem in this range.

2021 Marques de Murrieta Reserva (750ml)

"It's very Rioja, with clout, elegance and freshness and the elegant tannins that are the signature of 2021 ... Bravo!" - Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate

Declared "one of Rioja's most iconic labels" by Decanter's Clive Pursehouse, Marques de Murrieta is a bastion of classically styled Rioja. These top-scoring flagship Reserva, the signature Gran Reserva, and the highly coveted Castillo Ygay are all emblematic of the estate's reputation for benchmark Rioja expressions with top-tier cellar potential.

A standard bearer for value every vintage, the double 96-point 2021 Rioja Reserva seems to have hit a new benchmark for this flagship cuvée in "one one of the finest vintages in recent times," as Luis Gutiérrez describes the 2021 campaign in Rioja. "Even more outstanding than the 2020" (which garnered big press in its own right), this rendition is the epitome of an overachiever. For under $30, you can enjoy a world-class Rioja tonight or you can stack the cellar. "Elegant yet perfectly structured ... It offers immediate appeal but will age gracefully for many years to come," declares Decanter. Simply put, wine lovers of all stripes will be hard pressed to find better bang for their buck.

96JD 96D 95WA 94V 94JS

Even more outstanding than the 2020, the incredibly priced 2021 Reserva is young in boisterous blue fruit, with a generous, full-bodied palate of richness and upfront power. The tannins add length and breadth to the wine, which is tasting great and could go another 10-15 years.

96 points, Virginie Boone, Jeb Dunnuck (Jan 2026)

Elegant yet perfectly structured, this is the most floral of the Murrieta Reservas I’ve tasted in recent years. With 8% Graciano and 4% Mazuelo, the nose is perfumed with pretty rose petal and delicate red berry fruit, as well as wild herbal aromas. Blueberry fruit typical of Tempranillo directs the palate, rounded out with a little fleshy Garnacha, and framed by subtle American oak. It offers immediate appeal but will age gracefully for many years to come.

96 points, Beth Willard, Decanter (Feb 2025)

Their flagship wine comes from one of the finest vintages in recent times. The 2021 Marqués de Murrieta was previously called the Reserva and still qualifies as such, but it's not included in the name now. It was produced with 86% Tempranillo, 8% Graciano, 4% Mazuelo and 2% Garnacha Tinta from their 300 hectares of vines in their Ygay estate on limestone and clay soils with alluvial influence. The grapes were picked between the 27th of September and the 15th of October, and each plot and variety was vinified separately in stainless steel, matured in American oak barrels for 26 months, then blended and kept in concrete for a few months until bottling, which was a longer élevage this year. It's very spicy, peppery, with a combination of berry fruit and some incipient tertiary aromas, hints of forest floor and truffle. It's very Rioja, with clout, elegance and freshness and the elegant tannins that are the signature of 2021. It comes in at 14.3% alcohol with a pH of 3.6, denoting ripeness and balance. It's delicious, fresh and available. Bravo! This will be released in May 2025. 900,000 bottles produced. It was bottled from May to July 2024.

95 points, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate (Feb 2025)

The 2021 Marqués de Murrieta blends 86% Tempranillo, 4% Mazuelo, 8% Graciano and 2% Garnacha. This aged for 26 months in barrels. The complex nose offers cherry, traces of camphor and cassis, dried flowers and blood orange. In the mouth, it's juicy, supple and layered, with flexible tannins and a rich, sustained finish. The 2021 is a refined, expressive red enhanced by an elegant vintage.

94 points, Joaquín Hidalgo, Vinous (May 2025)

This shows vibrant cherries, spiced plums, blue fruit and superb balance with well-hidden oak. Firm and really harmonious, it has a bit more prominence of fruit and fine-grained tannins than the 2020. Drink from 2026.

If this introductory list below tells us one thing, it's that the 2021 Barolo campaign is going to offer immense enjoyment for collectors and Piedmont fans as they stock the cellar with one incredible wine after another.

This wine is transparent and complex, with an intoxicating floral profile enhanced by mint, red currants and sweet spices. The wine is full-bodied, fruity and savory, with a powerful structure of firm, grainy tannins and ripe, refreshing, lifted acidity. Try after 2027.

97 points, Aldo Fiordelli, James Suckling (Jan 2025)

Always one of my favorites in this portfolio, the M. Marengo 2021 Barolo Bricco delle Viole manages a beautiful balance between intensity and elegance. The wine is not timid, nor does it reveal all its secrets at once. It offers a slow-motion performance of redcurrant, crushed flower and sweet violet. As always, this Barolo produces a floral signature that makes it unique. That delicate characteristic is especially defined and vibrant in this vintage.

The 2021 Barolo Cerretta sports a bright red hue and is deeper aromatically, offering notes of candied flowers, raspberry liqueur, hints of tiny blue flowers, and a quiet note of polished leather underneath that will come through with time. The palate offers broader tannins, more rounded fruit on the midpalate, and more depth and remarkable transparency. Its noble structure comes through on the finish, and while it has a complete feel all around, it demands more time. Cerretta was harvested on the 13th of October and saw a 42-day maceration on the skins before aging 23 months in cask. Drink 2027-2050.

97 points, Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck (May 2025)

A pretty red, this evokes strawberry, cherry, pomegranate, rose, mineral and menthol aromas and flavors. Elegant yet firmly built and layered, this should evolve nicely as all of its elements integrate and the tannins soften. Terrific length. Best from 2028 through 2048. 250 cases made, 150 cases imported.

97 points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator (Dec 2025)

Starting off a bit slower than the other wines in this flight, the Luigi Baudana 2021 Barolo Cerretta is quite nervous and tightly wound at this point. Cerretta in Serralunga d'Alba is known for its powerful, age-worthy wines. Despite that initial shyness, this bottle does reveal layers of sweet fruit, grenadine and tart cherry. The wine is nicely balanced with chalky, elegant tannins.

95+ points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate (Jan 2025)

The 2021 Barolo Cerretta is the most classically Serralunga of the three wines this year. Bold, searing tannins support a core of dark-toned fruit. Graphite, lavender, cloves, incense and licorice add to an impression of virile intensity. All this needs is time to soften a touch.

95 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Jan 2025)

Crafted from two distinct plots on opposite sides of the hill with varying soil and exposure, the 2021 Cerretta is so classically and evocatively Serralunga that the sense of place alone is worth the price of entry – but it's also pristine and masterfully balanced. Youthfully austere, it hints at savoury spice with forest herbs and ginseng. The palate is densely packed with pomegranate, black cherry and earthy liquorice root. Acidity races, and steely tannins grip assertively. This is simmering with energy.

2021 Le Cinciole Petresco (750ml)

Described as a "gem of a producer" by Decanter, Podere Le Cinciole may well be the ultimate insider's Tuscan estate, these high scoring, under the radar selections expressing the estate's exceptional "golden" terroir in Chianti Classico's high altitude terrain and quietly gaining the lesser known Le Cinciole a reputation among critics including Antonio Galloni of Vinous as "one of the leading estates in all of Italy," each of these artisan-crafted red wines also among the region's top values.

Situated on a biodiverse 30-hectare hilltop estate that includes an olive grove of 1,000 trees, Le Cinciole owners Luca Orsini and Valeria Vigano produce their measured, thoughtful wines from 11-hectares of biodynamically farmed vineyards in the Conca d'Oro, the amphitheater-shaped "golden basin" considered the Grand Cru of the region, planted in galestro soils of clay and schist ranging from 400 to 450 meters above sea level at one of the highest elevations in the region. Described as "one of the most distinctive wines in the appellation" by Vinous critic Antonio Galloni, the remarkably expressive 93 pt. 2019 Le Cinciole Chianti Classico and 92 pt. 2020 Le Cinciole Chianti Classico entry level cuvees were crafted from 100% Sangiovese and aged for 12 months in medium French oak barrels and a year in concrete before bottling, yielding seductive, earthy fruit and elegant tannins and described as "a perennial overperformer" by Decanter's Michaela Morris that's not to be missed. Crafted from 100% Sangiovese and aged well beyond the minimum requirement of 30 months for Chianti Classico's elite Gran Selezione category, Decanter critic Morris named the elegant 96 pt. 2016 Le Cinciole Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Aluigi one of her Top 10 wines of 2021, its luscious core of rich Sangiovese fruit and balanced mineral driven acidity boasting "quite a wow factor," while Monica Larner of the Wine Advocate describes the "bold" 95 pt. 2018 Gran Selezione Aluigi as having "a lovely defined character" and Antonio Galloni of Vinous praises the 96 pt. 2019 Gran Selezione Aluigi as setting the gold standard for the classification, exclaiming "what a gorgeous wine this is." A deeply layered blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with Syrah and Merlot, the exquisite 95 pt. 2016 Le Cinciole Camalaione is "absolutely gorgeous" according to critic Galloni, boasting lush dark fruits with remarkable persistence and balanced acidity, while the powerful 94 pt. 2017 Le Cinciole Camalaione "packs a huge punch" and the enticing 96 pt. 2018 Le Cinciole Camalaione is "a knockout," describing the atypical blend as offering "stunning depth and textural intensity." Sourced from 100% Sangiovese grown in a single vineyard at the estate's highest elevation, Antonio Galloni calls the flagship 97 pt. 2017 Le Cinciole Petresco "breathtaking" while the 98 pt. 2019 Le Cinciole Petresco boasts "notable depth and intensity," and like all Le Cinciole's top cuvees, both are built to deliver pleasurable drinking over the next decade and beyond.

While Panzano and the Conca D'Oro have gained notoriety among collectors as the home to high profile producers like Fontodi, Le Cinciole's top scoring wines remain among Tuscany's hidden treasures, still seeming "to fly under the radar" according to Antonio Galloni and a rare opportunity for lovers and collectors of bold Tuscan reds to "strike gold" and scoop up a stash of Le Cinciole's purely irresistible wines at unbeatable prices.

96JS 95V

A restrained and complex wine with rare depth and vibrancy. Aromas of red and black cherries, licorice, cocoa powder and Earl Grey tea with touches of pepper and ash. Fruit sweetness on the palate, with crisp acidity, a tight-knit structure and firm, extracted yet sleek tannins. From organically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but best in two or three years.

96 points, James Suckling (Jul 2025)

The 2021 Petresco is a huge, dense red. The dark, virile side of Sangiovese soars from the glass. Black cherry, lavender, sage, menthol and licorice stain the palate. Aeration releases the wine's lifted, expansive aromatics. This is an especially dense, powerful vintage for Petresco. I find the new oak a bit prominent at this stage, but that should be less of an issue in a few years' time. Petresco spends two years in wood (equal parts cask and barrique) followed by a year in cement.

The 2021 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Aluigi Campo ai Peri is another stunning wine from Le Cinciole. Detailed and vibrant in the glass, with captivating energy, the Aluigi sizzles with tension. The 2021 Chianti Classico is a fabulous introduction to this range from Le Cinciole. Brisk acids and veins of tannin give the 2021 its shape and plenty of overall energy.

Beguiling and persistent fragrances of sandalwood, mocha and cherry lead to undertones of wet forest flora and alpine herbs on the lively, lithesome palate. Sandy-textured tannins are speckled throughout, coming together in a graceful grip. The fruit is juicy and sapid. The least expensive and most approachable in the range, though not without signature tension. Referencing the estate’s rich truffle hunting ground, La Tartufaia is the lowest parcel (still a lofty 460m) looking west towards the imposing snow-capped Alps.

Ripe blackberries and black plums wait patiently in their bowl, their sweetness mingling with wild mint, bay leaf, and allspice's peppery warmth. This wine carries itself like a five-star prospect in triple-A ball: all the raw talent is there, structured with fine-grained tannins and pure fruit, just waiting for its moment. Give it time in your cellar's minor leagues and watch this rookie develop into a perennial all-star, delivering greatness for decades to come. Drink from 2027

96 points, Jeff Porter, Wine Enthusiast (Sep 2025)

Showing its Serralunga structure as well as elegant restraint, the Giovanni Rosso 2021 Cerretta opens with alluring aromas of camphor, woodland berry, fine tobacco blend and fragrant blue flower. It shines on the palate, delivering succulent Marasca cherry, raspberry compote, crushed mint and star anise framed by fine-grained tannins that give the finish some grip. Fresh acidity provides energy and balance.

96 points, Kerin O'Keefe (Apr 2025)

A graceful wine despite its power. Intoxicating aromas of violets, roses, cherry stones and blood oranges enhanced by licorice and smoke notes. The palate is firm, with ripe, velvety tannins, crisp acidity, a full body and a polished finish despite its youth and extraction. Drink from 2027.

95 points, James Suckling (Jan 2025)

A bright red brick hue, the 2021 Barolo Cerretta has a floral and spicy feel, with perfumed notes of preserved strawberries, wild raspberries, minty herbs, pressed flowers, sweet spices, and rhubarb. The palate has more medium-bodied richness, although it remains ripe and graceful, with refined tannins, even acidity, and a floating feel on the finish. It’s a very pretty wine to drink over the coming 10-15 years.

94 points, Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck (May 2025)

Grilled campfire, licorice root, crushed raspberries, savoury and mouthwatering, excellent quality, great lift on the finish, underbrush and cured leather, soy broth, fine, stretched out tannins.

The 2021 Barolo Gramolere is deep, layered and super-expressive. Blood orange, cinnamon, star anise and cedar give the 2021 a gorgeous, exotic aromatic flair. Plush and layered in the glass, with exceptional resonance, the Gramolere is a drop-dead gorgeous beauty. The long, explosive finish invites a second taste, and then a third.

The 2021 Barolo Castelletto is another absolutely stellar wine in this lineup. Ample and broad on the palate, the Castelletto offers a beguiling mix of aromatic intensity, fruit depth and structure. Time in the glass works wonders here. This poised, dramatic Barolo has it all. It's one of the very finest wines I have tasted at this address in a very long time. Don't miss it.

Sixty five year old vines bring exceptional depth here. Fresh turned earth and dark cherries give way to waves of wild strawberry, forest mushrooms, and subtle mint. The texture balances strength with finesse. This is a wine that makes you reconsider what Barolo can be, serious without being severe, profound without pretense. A future legend. Drink from 2027

97 points, Jeff Porter, Wine Enthusiast (Dec 2025)

Dark aromas of graphite, potpourri, smoke, bergamot and dried cherries. Firm tannins on the palate, with a full body, a dusty texture, refreshing acidity and a powerful finish. Extracted, meaty, concentrated and balanced for the long haul, with an amazing minty aftertaste. Try from 2027.

97 points, Aldo Fiordelli, James Suckling (Jan 2025)

The 2021 Barolo Villero is laced with spice, new leather, herbs, menthol and licorice. It exudes depth, structure and classicism, with plenty of the balsamic inflections that are such signatures of Villero. I admire the wine's virile intensity and overall power. This is a superb showing.

96 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Jan 2025)

My top pick from this estate in 2021, the Villero bottling is crafted from 65-year-old vines. The southwest-facing plot is characterised by calcareous clay rich in iron, which typically gives solidly structured wines. The house’s confidently extracted style accentuates this but is so well honed that the wine remains in brilliant balance. It is as expressive as it is textured: entrancing aromas convey smoke, cinnamon, sarsaparilla and a burst of violet. While tight and vertical to begin with, a mouthful of stoniness makes way for a richness of dark fruit through the mid-palate, all hemmed in by sophisticated, grainy tannins while sappy acidity lends a cleansing quality.

96 points, Michaela Morris, Decanter (Jan 2025)

A similar bright red with orange highlights, the 2021 Barolo Villero has a fabulous floral and layered nose of fresh blood orange, bright red berries, cinnamon, clove, mint, and cedar incense. The palate is linear and medium-bodied, with refined tannins, refreshing ripe acidity, and a gently tapering finish. It had a more delicate feel on the palate at this tasting, yet I anticipate this being a lovely wine to check in on over the coming 10-15 years.

Cannubi's light sandy soils give this wine its signature grace. Wild roses, crushed cherries, and subtle orange peel create an aromatic spell. Each sip reveals new layers, bright red fruits and subtle spices flow with remarkable clarity. The texture feels like silk wrapping around your tongue. This is Cannubi showing why it has enchanted wine lovers for generations. Drink Now - 2045

96 points, Jeff Porter, Wine Enthusiast (Dec 2025)

The 2021 Barolo Cannubi pours a reflective ruby red hue and leads with a lovely floral and fruity perfume with an elegantly layered feel, revealing notes of fresh leather, raspberry liqueur, wild strawberries, fresh violets, and candied licorice. It moves seamlessly to the palate, with a juicy and approachable feel upfront before its more compact structure and energy reveal themselves through the mid-palate and finish. It has refreshing acidity, well-defined, ripe tannins, and a nice element of nervous energy through the finish, suggesting its ability to age and improve over the next 12-15 years. It’s a joyful and fantastic wine from Cannubi in this vintage.

95 points, Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck (May 2025)

The 2021 Barolo Cannubi is another stellar Barolo in this range from Claudio Fenocchio. Aromatic and lifted, the 2021 is classic Cannubi. Bright acids cut through a core of sweet red-toned fruit, mint, orange peel, cinnamon and new leather. This chiseled, nuanced Barolo is a winner.

95 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Jan 2025)

A restrained Barolo with red currants, red cherries, bright violets and a balsamic touch on the nose. More elegant than powerful, it’s medium- to full-bodied with enjoyable thick yet ripe tannins, crisp acidity and cherry stones in the finish. Drinkable now, but best from 2027.

95 points, Aldo Fiordelli, James Suckling (Jan 2025)

On the opulent side, this red exhibits plum, cherry, earth, iron, eucalyptus and spice flavors. Builds in intensity to the long, expansive finish while remaining balanced and expressive. There’s a fine grain and strong grip on the finish courtesy of dense tannins. Best from 2029 through 2045. 250 cases made, 50 cases imported.

94 points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator (Jan 2026)

While based in Monforte d’Alba, the Fenocchio family has owned a small 0.5ha slice in Cannubi Boschis for over 50 years and it has been bottled separately since 1980. Striking scents are redolent of rhubarb compote, cherry bark, toasted hazelnut and warm, dusty earth. This is full, dense and even a bit chewy as supple fruit fuses with seemingly pliant tannins which build with dry, sandy texture, providing a firm, well defined frame. Citrussy acidity is direct and penetrating, with a thrillingly crisp finish. I wouldn’t touch it for at least a couple of years – Fenocchio’s wines age exceptionally well.

The 2021 Barolo Sperss is a jeweled ruby color and has a beguiling matched balance of power and finesse. Seamless from start to finish, it offers notes of black raspberries, sweet flowers, fresh herbs, and apricot. It’s saturating with a medium-bodied richness that expands through the palate, with refined, polished tannins, even acidity, and a profound length on the finish. It’s a harmonious and resonating wine with a lot to enjoy over the next several decades.

100 points, Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck (May 2025)

With fruit from Serralunga d'Alba, the Gaja 2021 Barolo Sperss is marked by a distinctive ferrous note of rusty nail or soft earth that frames a core of dark fruit. The wine is exceptionally balanced and beautiful with depth and a high level of fruit purity. Unlike the Conteisa, which ends with a sweeter floral note, this wine is decidedly salty and stony on the finish, giving it a harder edge in terms of structure.

Fruit for the Fratelli Alessandria 2021 Barolo del Comune di Verduno comes from five vineyard sites in Verduno: Riva Rocca, Rocche dell'Olmo, Campasso, Pisapola and Boscato. This was the first Barolo del Comune di Verduno to hit the market (with the 2017 vintage). The bouquet focuses on redcurrant and tart cherry, and there is a pinch of cinnamon buried in there as well. This is a pretty Barolo that manages elegance and an easy-drinking style. This 20,000-bottle release ages in Slavonian and French oak botti for three years.

94 points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate (Jun 2025)

Bottled only a month before I tasted it and coming from five vineyards in Verduno, the 2021 Barolo Del Comune Di Verduno is very pretty on the nose, with a good deal of complexity and purity lifting from the glass with aromas of fresh raspberries, strawberry, fresh spices, fennel, incense, and roses. The palate is focused and energetic, with bright acidity, finely coiled tannins, a salty, mouthwatering feel, and a light, savory finish. It is both tension-packed and has the finesse of Verduno throughout this Comune bottling. Drink over the next 15 years.

The 2021 Barolo Ginestra Casa Mate displays a bit more ruby and deeper pigment in the glass and has notes of raspberry liqueur, sweet sage, pressed flowers, cedar, and licorice. It’s very pretty on the nose and carries more sapidity to the palate while also retaining lovely purity, with ripe tannins, slightly broader shoulders, and a long finish. Both of the Barolo have a tremendous amount to offer, but with distinctive personalities, and for my taste, this one has a slight edge. (I also wouldn’t be surprised if that were to flip with a different mood and tasting.) The perfumes of both the wines are exceptional in this fantastic vintage. Drink 2027-2057.

97 points, Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck (May 2025)

The 2021 Barolo Ginestra Casa Matè is fabulous. Bright and transparent, with captivating depth, the 2021 is a stunning beauty. Enveloping balsamic notes make a strong opening statement that remains a theme here. Blue/purplish fruit, lavender, spice and blood orange all come alive in the glass. What a wine!

97 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Jan 2025)

A complex Barolo with a layered nose of licorice, vibrant red cherries, blood oranges, sweet violets and earthy minerality. Full-bodied, it shows elegance of extraction with red fruit flavors, freshness and integration. Velvety and savory tannins with excellent length. Try from 2026.

96 points, James Suckling (May 2025)

Just 300m away from Gavarini Chiniera, Casa Matè sits slightly lower, between 300 to 350m. Characterised by richer clay soil and full south exposure, it is always the first to bud and to be picked, usually 10 days earlier than Gavarini Chiniera. Intense aromas of liquorice, bay leaf and rosemary make for a pungent introduction. Laden with dark cherry and black raspberry, the palate is luscious on the entry, becoming more rigid as virile, commanding tannins take hold. Remarkably balanced in its girth, power and concentration.

The 2021 Barolo Gavarini Chiniera is a deep, powerful wine. In most vintages, the Gavarini Chiniera is a bit more linear, but the 2021 has an extra kick of textural depth that is such a hallmark of the year. Iron, chalk, dried flowers, mint and red cherry fruit build with a bit of coaxing. Readers will find a potent, explosive Barolo that hits all the right notes.

97 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Jan 2025)

Coming from the highest plot on the hill at 450 meters elevation, with a southeast exposure and sandy limestone soils, the 2021 Barolo Gavarini Chiniera pours a bright ruby red color and is the more lifted and linear of the two Barolo in the range. In the glass, it’s spicy and focused on the nose, with notes of red cherries, floral perfume, minty fresh herbs, and bright spices. Raised for 30 months in Garbelotto barrels, the palate is also focused and medium-bodied, with bright acidity that drives the wine, ripe but coiled tannins, and a stony texture through the finish. It offers fantastic energy throughout, and I would love to have a few of these stashed away in my cellar. Drink 2027-2047.

96+ points, Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck (May 2025)

Reaching 400m, Gavarini Chiniera sits on slightly sandy, limestone-rich clay. The 2021 saw a 40-day submerged cap maceration and, like its sister bottling Casa Matè, was matured in 25-hectolitre untoasted Slavonian oak casks. It is redolent of pine forest, spice, rose and violet. With cherry and black currant depths, the full-bodied palate brings in earthy truffles, making for a thoroughly captivating expression. A crisp backbone of acidity counters the fleshy fruit and fine, granular tannins provide a well-drawn frame.

96 points, Michaela Morris, Decanter (Jan 2025)

A graceful Barolo with cinnamon, cherry pits, Parma violets and subtle blood oranges on the nose. Delicate on the palate, with a medium body, refined velvety tannins and integrated long acidity. Red currants in the finish. Drink or hold.

This wine represents a blend of fruit from various sites, and 15,000 bottles were created. Showing a classical profile, the E. Pira e Figli - Chiara Boschis 2021 Barolo Via Nuova delivers a firm sense of inner fiber and richness with dark blueberry and black fruit. These aromas are enhanced by ethereal tones of blue flower and aniseed. The tannins are slightly more approachable in this wine compared to the Mosconi, but the intensity and richness of the mouthfeel is about the same.

96 points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate (Jan 2025)

A lifted and energetic Barolo, the 2021 Barolo Via Nuovais boasts a jeweled ruby color and has a fantastic, balanced nose with notes of ripe peaches, sweet sandalwood, floral perfume, and wild strawberries. Medium-bodied, the palate is refreshing and focused, with vibrant acidity, finely coiled tannins, and a long and linear finish. It has a bit more open feel at this stage, but it should have solid aging potential and improve over the next 20 or more years.

96 points, Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck (May 2025)

The 2021 Barolo Via Nuova is a gorgeous, poised wine . Bright and energetic, with tons of drive, the 2021 has so much to offer. Brisk acids and veins of tannin shape this dynamic mid-weight Barolo. Blood orange, plum, chalk and rose petal are some of the many notes that come alive with aeration. The Via Nuova is a gorgeous wine in the making, but it needs a few years to be at its most expressive.

96 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Jan 2025)

A fleshy, vibrant red, featuring cherry, plum, green olive, iron, tar and tobacco flavors. There’s intensity and viscosity midpalate, while the aftertaste stretches out, echoing the fruit, savory and mineral components. Shows superb balance and length; this just needs time. Best from 2029 through 2048. 375 cases made, 150 cases imported.

96 points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator (Dec 2025)

An intense Barolo with aromas of Parma violets, cinnamon, restrained blood oranges, cherries and licorice. Incredibly precise and defined. Full-bodied on the powerful and graceful palate, with velvety tannins and refreshing, lifted acidity. A lot of substance, with a crunchy style and balance. Long, licorice aftertaste. Best after 2027.

Complex, fruity and solidly built, this red features cherry, strawberry, rose, green olive, leather, iron and tar flavors. Succulent and beautifully balanced, with dense, assertive tannins that are well-integrated, ending with a detailed, mouthwatering aftertaste. Best from 2030 through 2050. 392 cases made, 150 cases imported.

98 points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator (Dec 2025)

This Barolo opens up with aromas of bright cherries, cedar and a touch of sliced mushrooms. Medium-bodied with incisive freshness. The tannins are restrained, almost timid. The wine is overall compact and solid. Very well constructed and cohesive. Needs three years to soften, but it’s really enjoyable to taste.

98 points, Jacobo Garcia Andrade, James Suckling (Jan 2025)

The E. Pira e Figli - Chiara Boschis 2021 Barolo Mosconi is structured, linear and ultimately quite mineral in character compared to the Cannubi. Its firm underlying architecture is rendered light and fragrant thanks to aromas of blue flower, grilled herb (with both rosemary and aniseed) and pulverized stone. Fruit comes from a site in Monforte d'Alba at a cool 370 meters in elevation. I came back to this bottle 24 hours after my first tasting and remarked on the elegant, chalky nature of the tannins. 9,000 bottles were produced.

97+ points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate (Jan 2025)

Selected from the estate’s oldest plot within Mosconi, this is the only one of Chiara Boschis’ Barolos still aged exclusively in barriques. The cool, fresh site sees significant diurnal temperature differences typically giving a powerful wine that needs tempering and, above all, time. The 2021 harnesses that vigour and potential masterfully. A marvellous mix of sweet spice, forest roots and stony minerals evoke a palpable sense of territory. Profound in its depths, it boasts juicy acidity with plush tannins you can sink your teeth into. Long, textural and enveloping with dark cherry, plum and hints of bitter cocoa, this is a complete and compelling package.

97 points, Michaela Morris, Decanter (Jan 2025)

With a slightly deeper jeweled ruby hue, the 2021 Barolo Mosconi is more contemplative, offering layered notes of cedar, cherry cordial, Asian spices, sweet herbs, and pressed flowers. It reveals broader polished depth on the palate, with ripe, refined tannins, and a long, even-keeled finish with persistent mineral underpinnings. It is only going to improve as it leans into these more brooding tertiary layers of truffle and leather, and it will be worth waiting for. Drink 2026-2056.

96+ points, Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck (May 2025)

The 2021 Barolo Mosconi is ample, creamy and resonant in the glass in its first impression. Dark red/blue fruits, leather, lavender, spice and menthol build with some coaxing. There's plenty of Mosconi substance, but Chiara Boschis has done a terrific job in taming the tannins here. This is one of the most refined wines I have ever tasted from the Mosconi cru. Time in the glass brings out the wine's structural presence, while floral overtones and insistent tannins support the driving finish.

This is a phenomenal wine that highlights the hard work and expertise of Chiara Boschis and her brother Giorgio. The E. Pira e Figli - Chiara Boschis 2021 Barolo Cannubi is made with organic Nebbiolo clones of Michet and Lampia planted in a tiny 0.7-hectare plot at 300 meters above sea level on the powdery white limestone soils from the Miocene epoch that characterize this celebrated cru. The wine is refined and delicate with rose hip, violet and pure cherry essence. The aromas are stacked with soaring vertical intensity, and they give this wine an especially bright and lifted bouquet. The mouthfeel outperforms most of its peers thanks to its tight and silky essence and the clean powdery feel of its tannins. The Cannubi is showing very nicely now, but the Mosconi could benefit from more time in bottle. This is a limited release of 4,000 bottles.

98 points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate (Jan 2025)

Aromas of red fruit, dried herbs, cola, earth and a touch of licorice. Medium- to full-bodied with chewy but not overbearing tannins, neat fruit flavors and a subtly chewy finish. A very absorbing wine. Already approachable, but it will improve with a year of cellaring. Best from 2026.

98 points, Jacobo Garcia Andrade, James Suckling (Jan 2025)

The 2021 Barolo Cannubi is a jeweled ruby color and is fragrant, floral, and complex with aromas of fresh flowers, black raspberries, cherries, fresh spice, and sweet orange citrus. Medium-bodied, the palate is highly elegant and graceful, with refined, even tannins, ripe acidity, and a long finish with a great feel throughout. This continues to be one of the top expressions coming out of Cannubi and offers both immediate pleasure and a wide window for enjoyment over the coming decades.

97 points, Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck (May 2025)

The 2021 Barolo Cannubi is pure sensuality. Creamy, silky tannins wrap around a core of dark red/purplish fruit, rose petal, mint, spice, blood orange and lavender. Everything here speaks to balance. Pretty floral top notes lift the eternal, saline finish. The 2021 is impeccably done. It’s a very pretty and complete Barolo from Chiara Boschis.

97 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Jan 2025)

Menthol, eucalyptus, sweet spice and salty, mineral flavors swirl around the core of macerated cherry and plum in this lively, sophisticated and finely textured version. Tips toward the tannins in the mix today, with a savory aftertaste, yet this red is all about finesse. Beautifully balanced and long. Best from 2029 through 2047. 275 cases made, 100 cases imported.

Bold and beautiful, the 2021 Le Cinquevigne boasts intense aromas of violet, rose, perfumed berry, star anise and a balsamic whiff of eucalyptus. Smooth and vibrant, the savory, elegantly structured palate doles out ripe Morello cherry, raspberry, mint and licorice accompanied by taut, fine-grained tannins. Bright acidity keeps it balanced.

95 points, Kerin O'Keefe (May 2025)

A fine-tuned, elegant Barolo with aromas of dried cherries, dried roses, licorice and mint. Full-bodied, it shows smoothness, density, weight and soft tannins despite the structure, with refreshing acidity and a long, vibrant finish full of savory flavors. Drinkable now, but best from 2026.

95 points, Aldo Fiordelli, James Suckling (May 2025)

A blend of fruit from five MGA sites (Brunate, Liste, Cerequio, Cannubi and Raviole), this is an ample release of 70,000 bottles. The Damilano 2021 Barolo Lecinquevigne offers nice intensity and standard Nebbiolo complexity with dark fruit, cassis, spice and toasted tobacco leaf. You do not taste the personality of any one site, but that's not the point. Aged in large botte, the wine is open-knit in texture and immediate. You can wait longer or pull the cork now.

93 points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate (Jun 2025)

Laced with cherry, strawberry, rose, mineral and white pepper flavors, this red is expressive despite being linear and taut. Firms up on the finish, where lively acidity drives the fruit and savory elements. Shows excellent harmony and potential. Best from 2028 through 2045. 12,500 cases made, 8,000 cases imported.

An intense, deep, vibrant wine full of spicy aromas of mint, licorice, balsamic, eucalyptus, dried violets and prunes. The attack is supple and dense, with a full body, refreshing acidity and firm tannins that are velvety and refined. Still austere in the finish, with the potential for aging. Try from 2027.

95 points, Aldo Fiordelli, James Suckling (Jan 2025)

The Cordero di Montezemolo 2021 Barolo Monfalletto comes from various vineyards near the winery in La Morra. This wine offers a plump, slightly ripe fruit profile with black cherry, damson plum and menthol. This remains genuine and pretty all the while. It doesn't show the exacting depth of the top wines, but this well-priced Barolo delivers good cheer over a more accessible style. This is a release of 54,000 bottles.

93 points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate (Jun 2025)

The 2021 Barolo Monfalletto is gorgeous. Deep, pliant and expressive, the 2021 has a lot to offer. I would give this a few years in the cellar, as it is quite concentrated and deep. Black cherry, leather, spice, incense and licorice build nicely, leading to a rich, sumptuous finish. The Monfalletto is a beautiful, highly pleasing Barolo. All it needs is a bit of time to shed some of its considerable baby fat.

93 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Jan 2025)

This is supple and spicy, its cherry, raspberry and rose flavors framed by a light touch of oak. Balanced and elegant, with refined tannins. Fine length. Best from 2028 through 2043. 4,600 cases made, 2,100 cases imported.

93 points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator (Dec 2025)

Dark cherries and ripe forest fruits emerge with brooding intensity, showing Monfalletto's robust personality. The wine flexes its muscles across the palate, where dusty tannins build steadily before exploding on the finish, demonstrating a powerful yet controlled expression of Barolo's classic structure. The Avril family, their renowned parcels planted adjacent to the ruins of the old papal towers in Chateauneuf-du-Pape, have been consistently bottling brilliant wines for decades. Among my very favorites – my personal collection spans multiple vintages – these are wines of unmistakable breed and character; a complete joy to experience. Originally established in the 18th century, their primary parcel is augmented by seventeen old vine plots throughout the appellation, adding further dimension to a wine already at the very highest levels of quality. Over the last few vintages, my notes indicate ever improved character. Paul-Vincent has bottled even more in a long line of rock stars. Draconian selections followed daily passes through each of his parcels, painstakingly clipping each vine for nothing but the very finest berries.

96WS 95WA 95JD 95D 94V 94JS

Elegant, stunning and approachable, with seductive aromatics of smoked incense and red tea, plus floral high notes, followed by a well of cassis, licorice and red currant coated in graphite. Dusty in feel, with fine-grained tannins bringing structure and textural complexity. An iron element lingers on the very long finish. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Drink now through 2035.

96 points, Kristen Bieler, Wine Spectator (Nov 2023)

Cherries, raspberries and truffles appear on the nose of the 2021 Chateauneuf du Pape, which weighs in at 15.1% alcohol. Showing ample concentration and length, this medium to full-bodied effort isn't quite as well endowed as the 2022, but it's still a gorgeous wine, framed by silky tannins and finishing with bright, pomegranate-like fruit.

95 points, Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate (Sep 2023)

One of the standouts in the vintage is the 2021 Châteauneuf Du Pape, a ripe, round, medium to full-bodied 2021 offering a beautiful array of black cherry and darker berry fruits, ample Provençal spice, and dried flower nuances. Wonderfully textured and balanced, with ripe tannins, as usual, Vincent has made one of the wines of the vintage. This will evolve gracefully for 15+ years.

95 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Oct 2023)

Defined raspberry and redcurrant fruits, some woody spices in the background. Quite a rounded, fluid style, the acidity is really quite marked this year. Tannins are gentle, and it finishes on raspberry and redcurrant coulis. There's a silky touch on the palate. It's built around the acidity, the tannins are just gently sandy. Good sense of purity, quite a Burgundian vintage. Less Grenache in the blend this year as it was particularly hit by the frost.

95 points, Matt Walls, Decanter (Sep 2022)

The 2021 Châteauneuf-du-Pape is made with slightly more Grenache and less Syrah than previous vintages. Intermixing aromas of red and black fruits, dried herbs, white pepper and crushed rocks, this 2021 shows slightly less intensity than either the 2020 or 2019. Full-bodied, elegant and framed by smooth tannins, it is well-balanced by fresh acidity and closes with a savory finish.

94 points, Nicolas Greinacher, Vinous (Jun 2023)

A perfumed nose of cherries, dark berries, baking spices, violets, licorice and some incense as well. It's medium-bodied with finely grained tannins. It's well-balanced with finesse and harmony. Crunchy and fresh with a velvety texture and great drinkability. Juicy, precise finish with excellent length. Drink or hold.
