You said my order would be received by 3/3, and although I missed it that day and got it the next, that was due to a doctor and vet appt so it's all good. B‑21Fine Wines & Liquors is fantastic. They had in stock a Chianti Classico Riserva I had been looking for, at a very good price. I ordered 6 bottles, and was impressed the shipping was only $12.00. They shipped fast in an extremely well packed box. Since an adult signature is required upon delivery, and unsure if anyone would be home, I had the package delivered to my local Walgreens store...worked flawlessly. I will definitely buy from them again.

2023 Domaine Clos de la Chapelle Beaune Les Champs Pimont 1er Cru (750ml)
Pinot Noir from Beaune, Burgundy, France
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

Of all the new direct-import discoveries to join our portfolio this year, perhaps none reach the heights of quality that Domaine Clos de la Chapelle does. This remarkable domaine under the direction of Pierre Merguey and his American partner Mark O'Connell is still flying under the radar, but based on the stunning quality of what we tasted at Wine Paris and again at the domaine earlier this year, they're poised for a big breakout into the elite echelon.

The domaine's vineyard holdings are impressive to say the least, centered around their monopole Volnay Clos de la Chapelle 1er Cru. Top to bottom, the 2023s were incredibly impressive on both occasions we tasted them, at Wine Paris in February and again at the domaine in April. The critical press is equally impressed on a consistent basis, as the domaine has racked up solid accolades from Wine Spectator, Burghound, Inside Burgundy, and View From the Cellar.

Every bottling is worth a place in your cellar, but it's the Volnay Taillepieds that truly steals the show in 2023. Notching 95 points from the notoriously stingy John Gilman, it's a world-class expression of this hallowed site that can stand toe-to-toe with the likes of d'Angerville and Montille at a fraction of their prices. Gilman exclaims, "I have always loved this terroir since my very earliest days drinking Burgundy and it seems pretty clear to me that today, no one makes a better example of Taillepieds than the team at Clos de la Chapelle!" The JG94 Volany Santentots du Milieu is a bona fide gem in its own. "Remarkably sensual," the 2023 is "a simply great bottle of Santenots du Milieu in the making." The sleeper gem, however, is the Beaune Champs Pimot 1er Cru. The lesser-know lieu-dit turned out a fantastic 2023 with a "complex aromatic constellation" and a "a very good core of fruit, tangy acids, fine focus and balance and a long, suavely tannic finish."

It's safe to say we haven't been this excited to introduce a new producer in a long time, and our direct access to the domaine's cellars makes the entire line-up some of the sharpest collectible buys in our Burgundy inventory.

92JG

The 2023 Champs Pimont from Clos de la Chapelle was raised in fifteen percent new casks this year. Additionally, ten percent of the cuvée was raised in amphora. The wine has turned out beautifully, offering a complex aromatic constellation of red and black cherries, pigeon, coffee bean, a nice touch of whole clusters, a fine base of soil, cedar and a lovely smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, complex and very transparent down to its soil, with a very good core of fruit, tangy acids, fine focus and balance and a long, suavely tannic finish. Lovely juice in the making.

2021 Barone Ricasoli Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Gaiole CeniPrimo (750ml)
Sangiovese from Chianti Classico, Tuscany, Italy
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

There's arguably no name more important to the history of Chianti Classico wine than Ricasoli. After all, it was one Bettino Ricasoli, an accomplished Italian statesman and baron, who first devised what would become the Chianti "recipe" in the mid-1800s. That is to say, he was the first to turn the region's focus to Sangiovese, where it has remained ever since.

Now his descendant Francesco Ricasoli runs the family's iconic Castello di Brolio property from which the Chianti category was born, and he has done as much as anyone in guiding the Chianti Classico DOCG into its next era, one where quality and style are rigorously maintained through new rules for production and labeling. The most important of these new steps has been the establishment of the Gran Selezione classification and its attendant regional designations or UGAs. Ricasoli's estate vineyards provide some of the best qualitative expressions of the Gaiole UGA while exemplifying the visionary genius behind the new classification system.

The 2021s take full advantage of this generational benchmark vintage, with a trio of critically acclaimed standouts. The 97-point Gaiole Colledila landed on last year's Wine Spectator Top 100 list. This cru is classic clay-limestone terroir for Sangiovese, resulting in a wine that "shows superb balance and grace, with the best yet to come." The Gaiole Ceniprimo, from sand and silt soils, takes on a fleshier fruit profile from its micro-climate, but the structured tannins suggest cellaring will be immensely beneficial. Finally, the WA97 Gaiole Roncicone "offers energy and a great sense of focus." More linear, refined, and reticent than its stablemates, this wine represents the new era of collectible Chianti Classico at its finest.

As prices for Italy's most renowned collectible wines continue to rise, we expect the Gran Seleziones to take a big step forward in this space, thanks to their skyrocketing quality and relatively affordable prices, with iconic estates like Ricasoli leading the way.

A beam of acidity cuts through this scintillating red, lending energy and driving its cherry, strawberry, mineral and spice flavors. Both ripe and supple, this firms up while playing out on the long and lively finish. All of the elements add up to great potential in 5–7 years. Best from 2027 through 2047. 916 cases made, 500 cases imported.

96 points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator (Oct 2024)

This has lots of energy with a crunchy and vivid sense to it. Sour cherry, orange peel and cedar undertones. It’s medium-bodied, sleek and racy. Super vivid. Drinkable now, but better in a year or two when it comes together. Try from 2026.

96 points, James Suckling (Apr 2024)

The last of Ricasoli's vineyards to be picked, Ceniprimo is located on an ancient fluvial terrace of sand and silt. At 300 metres above sea level, it faces west to southwest. As with all three of Ricasoli’s cru bottlings, this is fermented with selected yeasts indigenous to the Brolio estate, and ages in 500-litre tonneaux of which 30% are new. Medicinal herbs and vanilla weave through dark red cherry. The ripe, dense, fleshy fruit is coated with ample dusty tannins, while zesty, citrussy acidity gives a refreshing, countering lift. It leaves behind resounding suggestions of leather, chinotto and earthy forest roots, and deserves cellaring.

95 points, Michaela Morris, Decanter (Feb 2024)

The Barone Ricasoli 2021 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Gaiole CeniPrimo show softly textured fruit with lots of sweet cherry and raspberry up front. Grapes for this wine come from a vineyard planted in a silty riverbed. As a result of these warm growing conditions, the CeniPrimo usually shows more pulpy fruit, and in the case of this vintage, you also get a high 15% alcohol content.

Packed with cherry, raspberry and pomegranate flavors, this red is also succulent and verging on racy in profile, with a deep vein of mineral and peppery spice notes that intensify on the extended finish. Shows superb balance and grace, with the best yet to come. Best from 2027 through 2048. 1,166 cases made, 700 cases imported.

#50 - Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2024

The Barone Ricasoli 2021 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Gaiole Colledilà opens to dark fruit, but perhaps more significantly, you get a slate-like mineral note that adds focus. That mineral note appears in all these beautiful Gran Selezione wines from vintner Francesco Ricasoli, but in the case of this bottle, it adds a dark or slightly brooding personality. The finish is absolutely savory and salty.

96+ points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate (Jul 2024)

Fresh and crunchy with orange peel, cherries, raspberries and hints of raw meat. It’s medium-bodied with medium-round tannins and a succulent finish. Polished and creamy. Lightly chewy and crisp at the end. Drink or hold.

Once again, this is my favorite of the three Gran Selezione wines made by Barone Ricasoli. The 2021 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Gaiole Roncicone offers energy and a great sense of focus thanks to the elegant mineral tones of crushed seashell and chalk that frame a core of elegant berry fruit. Indeed, marine fossils are often discovered in this 10-hectare vineyard site. I love the precision and linearity of the silky and long-lasting finish. The personality is finessed and fine.

97+ points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate (Jul 2024)

This red is a bit shy today, revealing a core of ripe cherry, strawberry, rose and iron flavors backed by vivid acidity. Its tannins are refined and well-integrated, while the finish is super long, salty and intense. Best from 2027 through 2047. 833 cases made, 400 cases imported.

96 points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator (Oct 2024)

There’s a freshness and zesty character to this Chianti Classico, with notes of oranges, cherries and sandalwood. Medium-bodied with fine tannins and a creamy finish. Tannins are very bright. Drinkable now, but a year or two will give it time to get even better.

2020 Mario Marengo Barolo Brunate (750ml)
Nebbiolo from Barolo, Piedmont, Italy
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

Described as "consistently outstanding" by Vinous critic Galloni, these top scoring 95 plus point 2020 Barolo selections from Mario Marengo are among the region's best values, an array of vineyard expressive Barolo from entry level to Cru reflecting the characteristic "grace, elegance and understatement" of an outstanding Piedmont vintage according to critic Galloni and unbeatably priced whether choosing a favorite or mixing a case.

Boasting a history in the region dating back over a century, Marengo's small 6-hectare estate includes old vine holdings in the Brunate and Bricco delle Viole Cru's, its new cellars in Serradenari now run by fourth generation Marco and his wife Jenny along with their son Stefano. Crafted under the advisement of legendary consulting enologist Beppe Ca'Viola, the elegant 95 pt. 2020 Mario Marengo Barolo is a blend across the estate's four top La Morra vineyards, yielding "a very authentic portrait of this Barolo village known for delicate, floral and softly graceful expressions of Barolo" according to the Wine Advocate's Monica Larner. Reflecting "the characteristic power and determination of the Brunate Cru" according to the Wine Advocate's Monica Larner, the full-bodied 97 pt. 2020 Mario Marengo Barolo Brunate was sourced from 1.2 hectares of Nebbiolo planted in 1942, offering dark and sultry fruit with earthy aromas and fresh minerality and solidly built for decades of evolution.

An array of artisan crafted gems produced in small amounts, Antonio Galloni of Vinous describes these 2020 Mario Marengo selections as "stylish Barolos that stand out for their supreme balance," this offer a rare opportunity for Barolo collectors seeking outstanding value to stock the cellar with stunning Barolo for an incredible bargain price.

97JS 95WA

Aromas of strawberry, orange peel and cedar with dried flowers follow through to a medium body with solid and muscular tannins that run the length of the wine. Flexing. Spice, chocolate, strawberry and cedar at the end. Chewy. Needs time to soften but all here. Better after 2028.

97 points, James Suckling (Sep 2024)

A note of iron or crushed stone lifts from the bouquet of the M. Marengo 2020 Barolo Brunate. After that, it shows a very firm and compact fruit profile with dark currant, licorice root, rosemary and cola. The more austere side of this celebrated vineyard comes through nicely in this hot vintage. The fruit is quite bold but not overripe. It needs more time in bottle to flesh out. Production is 5,000 bottles.

Signatory 2013 Linkwood 11yr 2nd Fill Oloroso Sherry Butt Single Malt Scotch
From Pitlochry, Highlands, Scotland
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

"If you’re a fan of Linkwood, you’ll love this take on the distillery’s hallmark style." - Andrew Kitz, B-21 Spirits Buyer

The Speyside faithful go head over heels for Linkwood, but finding a top-quality example on the market is always a stroke of luck. Just 2% of the distillery's production is bottled on its own, with the vast majority of the production playing a crucial part in Diageo's flagship blends like Johnnie Walker. That would partially explain why we see a heavy interest in our offers on this distillery in particular. There's simply nothing else like Linkwood.

While our previous versions were either in ex-bourbon or brand new hogshead, our latest cask from independent stalwart Signatory gets back to the sherried Linkwood style that many fans are most familiar with. This 11-year-old gem is a second-fill oloroso butt, an ideal accompaniment to the Linkwood profile, as those who've had it from a first-fill butt know that this type of cask can sometimes overpower the malt's signature character. Instead, this one offers an aromatic profile that perfectly displays "the tension between the whisky and the butt, with characteristics of both showing up in real harmony," as Andrew notes. Surprisingly round and textured for a young whisky, it's "extremely well balanced with no heat or rough edges whatsoever, fanning out in broad, even waves across the entire palate." For fans of Speyside, Linkwood specifically, or just any great single malt of individual character, this cask is a bona fide winner and an easy choice at our razor-sharp price.

93AK

Linkwood has a devoted following at the moment, and it’s easy to see why. The distillery’s signature style lends itself so well to a variety of barrel treatments without ever losing its core identity. We’ve seen it in new hogshead, ex-bourbon cask, and now in this second-fill oloroso butt from Signatory, and it seems to shine in a particular fashion each time, while always remaining true Linkwood juice. Tight and youthful at first, the nose on this one opens into salty Speyside sea breeze and subtle nutty sherry notes – the barrel influence is there but stays in check all the way. Bruised apple, black raisins, marzipan, melon rind, new leather, sesame seed cracker, and coconut macaroons give you an idea of the tension between the whisky and the butt, with characteristics of both showing up in real harmony. This cask is the richest, roundest Linkwood we’ve seen so far, full on entry and well through the mid-palate. The persistent weight and viscosity support flavors of salted marcona almonds, kalamata brine, dark prunes, and anisette cookies. New leather and a wasabi-like punch come out on the medium-long, mentholated finish. For all its weight, the whisky is extremely well balanced with no heat or rough edges whatsoever, fanning out in broad, even waves across the entire palate. If you’re a fan of Linkwood, you’ll love this take on the distillery’s hallmark style.

2022 Kelley Fox Liminal Maresh Vineyard Pinot Noir (750ml)
Pinot Noir from Dundee Hills, Oregon
B-21 Top Recommendation

"Anyone looking for Oregon Pinot Noir purity and transparent communication of terroir from the soil to the vine to the bottle must explore Kelley Fox Wines." - Eric Guido, Vinous

Long-time B-21 Pinot Noir fans are now well-familiar with the spectacular offerings from this boutique darling of the Willamette Valley scene. With a critical track record to rival pretty much anyone else in the appellation, Kelley Fox is a bona fide star these days, and we're thrilled to have such an established relationship with her and her wines.

This outstanding set of releases showcases exactly why Eric Guido calls Kelley's wines "one of the most exciting portfolios of wines made in the United States." Her elegant vineyard-expressive Pinot Noirs and  energetic Chardonnays are sourced from many of the most iconic vineyard in the Valley. The entire line-up is full of must-try masterpieces, from the 94-point "entry-level" Mirabai to the single-vineyard stunners like the 98-point 2023 Shafer Vineyard and the pair of 2022 standouts from Maresh Vineyard, one of the oldest sites in Oregon. Of these two, it's particularly worth noting that Kelley won't be making wine from Maresh going forward, so get your hands on them now. The whites are equally compelling, and not just the Chards (although these do present some of the sharpest buys in the category, all at under $40). Her Grüner and Pinot Blanc are a testament to her unwavering belief in these varietals, and the critics seem to agree.

Any way you look at it, these are among the most consistently excellent wines out there, not only in Oregon but in the entire country. If you haven't jumped on board the Kelley Fox wagon, you have no idea what you're missing.

96JD 94WA

With a jeweled ruby hue, the 2022 Pinot Noir Maresh Vineyard Limnal is a beautifully floral wine on opening and has a gorgeous perfume of pure, ripe raspberries, roses, incense, and sweet spices, with some blue floral tones coming through as it opens. Bright and medium-bodied, it has approachable, fine tannins, vibrant, mouthwatering, even acidity, and crystalline purity, gaining in depth as it opens in the glass. With a beautiful, clean, salty feel, it’s deceptive in its approachability and is only going to gain in intensity and depth as it ages. Drink 2025-2040.

96 points, Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck (Aug 2024)

The 2022 Pinot Noir Liminal Maresh Vineyard comes from own-rooted vines originally established by Jim and Martha Maresh in 1970. “These vines are very self-regulating,” proprietor and winemaker Kelley Fox explains. “When I was doing canopy work out there they didn’t need hardly any of the thinning or shoot positioning that the other vines do.” Grapes were destemmed, and the wine was matured for 10 months in used French oak. The nose is bursting with pomegranate, and with time in the glass, it reveals nuances of mixed tea leaves, bergamot and earth. The light-bodied palate combines tea-like tannins and vibrant acidity with concentrated, fragrant flavors, and it has a long, latent finish. 159 cases were made.

Any way you look at it, these are among the most consistently excellent wines out there, not only in Oregon but in the entire country. If you haven't jumped on board the Kelley Fox wagon, you have no idea what you're missing.

A bright but transparent magenta hue, the 2022 Pinot Noir Durant Vineyard is all about sapidity, with resinous fresh herbs, fresh wild black raspberries, strawberries, and fresh earth, and it has an airy feel, with refreshing sweet earth and self-rooted vines. Medium-bodied, it offers ripe tannins and a lush texture, with a long finish. It stays fresh and lifted, buoyant yet rounded. Drink 2024-2040.

96 points, Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck (Aug 2024)

The 2022 Pinot Noir Durant Vineyard comes from own-rooted vines planted in 1973 and 1984. “I love self-rooted vines,” proprietor and winemaker Kelley Fox says. “Having this graft, there’s something that is lost and fuzzy in that translation.” Grapes were destemmed, and the wine was matured in used French oak. The nose is bursting with pomegranate, blueberry, blood orange and lilac aromas. The palate is slender with lacy, tea-like tannins and vibrant acidity, though its flavors are concentrated and highly perfumed, and it has a long, latent finish. Only 104 cases were made.

No introduction needed here. The iconic Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet is a smash hit in the outstanding 2021 vintage, with 96 points from Decanter making it one of the highest-rated vintages in years for this all-time fan favorite.

"...beautifully layered and highly fragrant, with remarkable precision and focus in this vintage." - Jonathan Cristaldi, Decanter

We just negotiated a spectacular price that we're passing on exclusively to our private clients, so you can load up just in time for the holidays with a perfect performer for gifts and lavish celebrations. "So full-bodied, ripe and robust" according James Suckling's California critic, Jim Gordon, the 2021 is redolent of profound, dark fruit and spicy oak character, but the winemaking team executed everything to pinpoint precision, so nothing is overdone or out of place. It's pure Silver Oak all the way, exactly how the wine's legions of fans like it.

96D

The 2021 Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon from Alexander Valley was harvested between 4 September and 8 October. The blend comprises 96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Merlot and 1% each of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. After blending, it was barrel-aged for 24 months in American oak, 50% of which was new, followed by 14 months of bottle ageing prior to release. The wine is beautifully layered and highly fragrant, with remarkable precision and focus in this vintage. Medium- to full-bodied, it integrates the hallmark Silver Oak American spice character through cedarwood aromatics, elegant whispers of vanilla bean, and nuances of fresh fennel (from more refined American oak barrels crafted after precision trials of both seasoning and toasting from the American oak cooperage they own in Higbee, Missouri). Supple dark-cherry and blackberry fruit are framed by graphite minerality, violets and clove, building in richness and complexity across the palate. Suave and silken, the dark-berry fruit is wrapped in a tapestry of velvety tannins, gliding to a focused finish of brown baking spices and crisp, clean acidity.

2023 Quinta Nova Mirabilis Grande Reserva Branco (750ml)
Viosinho from Douro, Portugal
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

While Portugal's Douro Valley is obviously most famous its fortified port wines, the number of estates gaining serious attention for their dry whites and reds is growing with every vintage, and you can add Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo (or "Quinta Nova" for short) to that list.

This historic property is arguably one of the most visually dramatic places in the wine world (something that can be said for pretty much all of the Douro Valley), and their ancient, terraced vineyard blocks are home to approximately 130 massale selected vine species, rigorously documented, nursed, and cultivated from the estate's original vines planted over 200 years ago. Now under the direction of the Amorim family, the estate has seen a resurgence in investment over the past two decades, which has brought their wines up to a next-level quality and garnered the accompanying critical recognition.

This set of new arrivals is highlighted by the 2023 Reserva Terroir Red, a 92-point blend of Douro's most famous red grapes that showcases the classic winemaking and style of this famed region. The estate also hits the collectible sphere with impressive results both white and red. The 2023 Mirabilis Branco is a true field blend, composed of several varietals of very old vines, all co-planted in a handful of small plots. James Suckling and Luis Gutierrez both make Burgundian comparisons to this singular white wine with a "showy, large nose and personality." Finally, don't miss the "exceptional," 97-point 2019 Centenaria Referencia P29/P21. As the name implies, it's crafted from 100-year-old vines, mainly Touriga Nacional. "Wonderfully expressive, the fruit here is special," notes Wine Advocate's Mark Squires, "The wine is seductive rather than astringent. Perfect balance completes the picture here."

With winners in every price point and quality tier, Quinta Nova is a sure bet for long-time Portugal fans and novices alike to explore the unparalleled variety and style of this historic wine region.

Lemon curd, butterscotch, oyster shells, wet chalk and a touch of pineapple. Full-bodied and luscious, this Burgundian viosinho- and gouveio-based Douro white is powerful and creamy, yet it simultaneously remains fresh and agile. Great balance. Layered and textural on the finish. Drink now or hold.

93 points, James Suckling (Jun 2024)

The 2023 Mirabilis Branco comes in an oversized Burgundy bottle and has a showy, large nose and personality, with spice and ripe yellow fruit, notes of aromatic herbs and a lush and well-oaked palate. It was produced with the field blends from small plots of very old vines where Viosinho and Gouveio tend to dominate. It fermented in 300-liter French oak barrels and concrete vats and matured in used and new barrels and 30% in concrete for 10 months. It's ripe and powerful and comes in at 14% alcohol but keeping good freshness and acidity. It has a little too much oak at the moment, so I'd wait a couple more years for the oak to integrate. 25,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2024.

"...[Chavy] is making brilliant wines that transcend their status." - Neal Martin, Vinous

We still can't believe our great fortune to have established Domaine Chavy-Chouet as a direct-import relationship last year, as the 2023s have proven to be incredibly smart buys that, as Neal Martin implies above, far outpace their price points across the board.

The exceptional village-level crus from Meursault and Puligny are are top-class overachievers from Romaric Chavy, who "continues to impress" as noted by Burghound's Allen Meadows. The true quiet genius of Chavy, however, is readily on display in his range of benchmark-quality 1er crus.

The "high-class Genevrières" leads the way in Jasper Morris' Inside Burgundy reviews, a 94-point expression of a hallowed terroir often seen on labels at twice this price. "Clean yet complex, with real intensity, this is a cut above," he declares of the equally stunning, 94-point 1er Cru Les Folatières from Puligny. For those seeking the vintage's best sleeper stars, look no further than the 93-point 1er Cru Murgers des Dents de Chien, a textbook rendition of a site that is gaining more and more collectible cachet with each passing vintage.

In a market, where true values are rarely found at all points on the price spectrum, this range from Chavy-Chouet bucks the trend and delivers undeniable class and sophistication at unbeatable, domaine-direct pricing.

Chapelle St. Theodoric might not be a household name on the greater Châteauneuf scene, but insiders and savvy collectors have long prized these wines as reference-point classics, and the professional press always seems to be on board with what's going on at this under-the-radar address.

"Chapelle St. Theodoric is turning out some of the most compelling wines from Châteauneuf du Pape ... These are wines worth seeking out..."

- Joe Czerwinski,Wine Advocate

We've just secured our allocation of the remarkable 2022s, and once again they hit the trifecta — top critical acclaim, pristine Southern Rhône class and sophistication, and unbeatable pricing that you likely won't see anywhere else. Sourced from a miniscule plot within the Les Pignan lieu-dit, the 2022 Le Grand Pin is the quintessential expression of the St. Theodoric profile. Notching 96-98 points from Wine Advocate's Joe Czerwinski, it's full of classic garrigue character to go with pure, old-vine Grenache fruit and seamless structure. In short, "it's going to be brilliant," as Jeb Dunnuck declares. Likewise, its stablemate, the 2022 La Guigasse from sandy soils in the eponymous lieu-dit, comes in at a full 98 points from Decanter's Matt Walls, who dubs it "a very complete wine that's hard to fault, showing whole-bunch southern Rhône winemaking at its best." There's no denying the appeal of these two paragons of world-class, traditional Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

98D 97WA 96JD

Herbal notes flow throughout the juicy strawberry fruit. The alcohol is present but it doesn't feel excessive, the balance is good. It’s exceptionally long indeed, with vibrancy and freshness. The tannins are incredibly fine, plentiful and mouthcoating. A very complete wine that's hard to fault, showing whole-bunch southern Rhône winemaking at its best. This is pure Grenache grown on sand at the lieu-dit La Guigasse, aged for 24 months in demi-muids. 4,800 bottles made.

98 points, Matt Walls, Decanter (Sep 2023)

Much like its Grand Pin stablemate, the 2022 Chateauneuf du Pape La Guigasse manages to be full-bodied and concentrated yet simultaneously light and airy in feel. There's less rose petal here and more garrigue, backed by silky notions of ripe cherries and dark chocolate, while gossamer-like tannins provide a wonderfully pliable, gauzy structure.

95-97 points, Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate (Sep 2023)

The 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape La Guigasse is meatier and more savory, with a gorgeous perfume of mulled red fruits, ground black pepper, and Provençal garrigue. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it delivers fine tannins, a seamless, layered mouthfeel, nicely integrated stems, and a great finish.

In certain vintages, I actually prefer this wine—from 35-year-old vines in Pignan (Nord)—to the La Guigasse. The 2022 Chateauneuf du Pape Le Grand Pin offers up compelling aromas of rose petals, exotic dried spices, cherries and raspberries. It's full-bodied and expansive in the mouth but somehow remains light and airy in feel, finishing with a wonderfully silky texture and awesome length.

96-98 points, Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate (Sep 2023)

Relatively pale in the glass. Pine needles and rosemary, very much a garrigue herb inflected nose. Broad and mouthfilling, generous and juicy, with rich strawberry fruit, ending on a sandy mineral note. Well balanced despite its breadth and warmth. Luxurious, languorous style that will drink well young and old. 100% old vine Grenache grown on sand in lieu-dit Pignan, no destemming, aged for 24 months in old demi-muids. 3,200 bottles made.

The 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape Le Grand Pin looks to be outstanding and brings more richness and depth than normal. Black raspberries, mulberries, sappy garrigue, pepper, and some mineral notes all shine in this beauty, which is medium to full-bodied, has a seamless mouthfeel, and enough tannic structure and acidity to benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age. NV Fallet Dart Extra Brut Eocene Disgorgement Jan 2025 (750ml)
Sparkling from Champagne, France
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

A new addition to our direct-import program, Fallet-Dart should be better known than they are, and they would be if they weren't located all the way out at the western end of the Marne Valley in Drachy. Their vineyards are exceptional, and their use of extended sur lie aging adds dimension and depth to their wines that we don't often see in this part of Champagne.

"The Eocene offers further proof that Fallet-Dart is an unsung reference-point for late-disgorgement Champagnes of uncompromising class and value." - Andrew Kitz, B-21 Champagne Buyer

Fallet-Dart's Eocene is named for the geologic era that formed the ancient soils of the La Niclotte vineyard. Made entirely from the 2009 vintage, bottled in 2010, and disgorged in March of this year, the Eocene is every bit the classic late-disgorgement expression. The ripeness of the vintage and the 20% Pinot Noir component give the wine its world-class depth of fruit, but the vineyard's soils and the light dosage (only 2g/L) endow it with absolutely shimmering vinous intensity and mineral vibrance. The lifted, high-toned flavor and aroma profiles offer a fascinating counterpoint to the Clos du Mont's more mature and evolved character (even though this wine spent fifteen years on the lees itself!). Who knew that we'd have to go all the way out to the western end of the Marne Valley to find one of the most compelling Champagnes we've come across in a long time? Hyperbole? Maybe. But once you dive into the specs on the Fallet-Dart Les Hauts Clos du Mont, you'll see where we're coming from.

"...a flat-out stunning new addition to our direct-import stable, and arguably the savviest collectible Champagne buy we've brought on board in a long time." - Andrew Kitz, B-21 Champagne Buyer

Fallet-Dart's prized vineyard, from which this wine comes, sits on a bend of the Marne River with perfect southeast exposition, having been under vine for over a thousand years. The Les Hauts Clos du Mont hails entirely from the now-legendary 2006 vintage and is a masterclass in oak vinification and sur lie aging. As indicated on the label, it was bottled in 2007 and has spent nearly 17 years on the lees! A wine of "head-spinning complexity" as Andrew describes it, this is luxury Champagne at its best, at a price that defies all market conditions and factors. As Andrew succinctly puts it, "If you're a fan of Bollinger's RD, set that one aside and buy three bottles of this for the same price – you won't be disappointed."

Avid collectors and Champagne fans should have no shortage of fun comparing these two benchmark beauties in the years to come.

94AK 93WE

The Eocene offers further proof that Fallet-Dart is an unsung reference-point for late-disgorgement Champagnes of uncompromising class and value. Like their tête de cuvée Les Hauts des Clos du Mont, it’s a single-vineyard expression from an undeclared vintage, in this case from the La Niclotte lieu-dit in 2009. Disgorged in January 2025, the Eocene spent 15 years on its lees, and it’s a masterful execution of the style. The vintage itself shows through in beautiful form – luxurious ripeness without the ponderous weight that can sometimes dull the terroir definition in a warm vintage. The ancient calcareous marine soils of La Niclotte show up in aromas of vivid, high-toned citrus (makrut lime and tangerine zest) and enchanting oyster shell minerality, while the vintage lends notes of deep peach and apricot skin in the background. The aromatic profile is framed by scintillating vinous intensity and toasty brioche and baguette undertones. The palate is all balanced richness, again a hallmark of the vintage, with fully expressive flavors of Bosc pear and red apple, which almost leans toward Calvados levels of depth. Background notes of ripe currant and red raspberry from the Pinot Noir component play against subtle exotic spices, all supported by fantastic mineral balance and textural freshness that lifts the finish on a real high note. Don’t think of Eocene isn’t simply a lesser version of Clos du Mont. This is serious stuff with its own distinct personality and purpose in the Fallet-Dart range.

94 points, Andrew Kitz, B-21 Champagne Buyer (Jul 2025)

Named after the geological period of the producer's vineyard, this Champagne, based on the 2009 harvest, shows maturity as well as richness. The mineral texture gives the wine a fine bite that holds everything together. Drink now.

2023 Weingut Wagner-Stempel Heerkretz Riesling Grosses Gewachs (750ml)
Riesling from Rheinhessen, Germany
B-21 Top Recommendation

"Wagner-Stempel now plays in the top league of dry German wine ... The 2023 Riesling collection is outstanding." - Anne Krebiehl MW, Vinous

The Rheinhessen is the largest region in Germany, so when a producer stands out as one of the very best here, they really stand out, and that's certainly the case with Wagner-Stempel. Winemaker Daniel Wagner is one of the region's most accomplished, but the estate is still under the radar on the global scene. Nonetheless, these are some of the most exquisite and artfully crafted dry Rieslings in Germany, and the 2023 vintage gave Daniel plenty of great material to flash his mettle.

The estate's crown jewels are unquestionably the renowned Grosses Gewächs (or "grand cru") vineyards of Höllberg and Heerkretz, each of which turned out a stunning expression in 2023 with superlative accolades from Vinous' Anne Krebiehl and James Suckling's Riesling critic, Stuart Pigott. The 97-point Höllberg GG offers up a masterclass in terroir with its "astonishing aromas" and its "fluid, slender, full-fruited, even exuberant stoniness." The 98-point Heerkretz GG is an equally masterful achievement of "extraordinary beauty ... with a combination of coolness and gracefulness that’s extremely rare in the world of dry riesling, or anywhere else." Finally, if you want a glimpse of the spectacular style of the estate and these two exceptional vineyards without having to open one of the GGs before it's ready, dive right into the 2023 Estate Riesling, a 94-point gem made from the younger vines of Heerkretz and Höllberg. "So amazingly fresh and delicate, so sleek and filigreed," it's a profound expression and an unbeatable value all in one sub-$20 package.

Dry German Riesling is certainly having its moment in the limelight, and these "crystalline, supremely aromatic and taut" examples give fans of the category all that they're looking for.

How can you resist this extraordinary beauty that’s the essence of white peaches and wild roses? Extremely concentrated, yet also very delicate and subtle, with a combination of coolness and gracefulness that’s extremely rare in the world of dry riesling, or anywhere else. The purity of a mountain stream as it flies over the edge of cliff and plunged hundreds of meters into the depths. From organically grown grapes. Drink from release.

Here's an exciting opportunity to enjoy a vertical of outstanding new releases from Chateau Troplong Mondot, three incredibly promising vintages garnering multiple 100 pt. scores and wowing critics across the board, each built for three decades of pleasurable drinking and unbeatably priced to over deliver value.

Perched in a spectacular location with a 360-degree view overlooking St. Emilion, Chateau Troplong Mondot is marked by the prominent water tower at St. Emilion's highest point, its stunning new cellars viewed from above on a glass catwalk reflecting the estate's dramatic transformation since its purchase by insurance company SCOR in 2017. Immediately hiring Bordeaux veteran Aymeric de Gironde, formerly of Pichon Baron and Cos d'Estournel, to lead the estate, Troplong Mondot pivoted to a classical, terroir-driven style, identifying the unique qualities of even the smallest parcels of its organically farmed 65 hectares of vineyards and reducing the amount of new oak to allow their rich minerality to shine through, described by Inside Bordeaux's Jane Anson as reflecting "a more evident respect for the powerful terroir that does not need to be overly dressed up" under the guidance of renowned consulting enologist Thomas Duclos. Vinified in vats instead of barrels to preserve freshness, the 98 pt. 2018 Chateau Troplong Mondot is "simply breathtaking" according to Antonio Galloni of Vinous, aged in 60% new oak with a small percentage in large vats and amphorae to yield a Troplong with "brighter red fruit flavors" that's "backed by a distinct flinty minerality" according to the Wine Spectator's James Molesworth. The  100 pt. 2020 Chateau Troplong Mondot is "wonderfully exuberant right out of the gate" according to Antonio Galloni of Vinous, with aromatic, rich dark fruit described as "powerful and dense" by the Wine Enthusiast's Roger Voss that "ends with a whoosh of freshness and lift" according to Jane Anson.

Describing these recent vintages as marking "the upward trajectory and unveiling of the new expression of this very special site at Troplong Mondot," the Wine Advocate's William Kelley declared, "what an exhilarating ride this is!" while Jeb Dunnuck unequivocally declares "there is no denying the incredible quality from this chateau today" – these value priced Chateau Troplong Mondot selections offering an exciting opportunity for Bordeaux fans and collectors to mix a case or pick a few favorites and jump aboard St. Emilion's rising star for the thrilling journey ahead.

The 2017 Troplong Mondot is stunning, just as it was en primeur. Rich and ample, yet endowed with striking energy as well, the 2017 is the first vintage made by new CEO Aymeric de Gironde and consulting winemaker Thomas Duclos. The 2017 takes hold of all the senses and never lets up. All of the power that is typical of this site is evident, it seems to come so naturally, and yet picking earlier and then using a lighter hand in the cellar yielded a Troplong of uncommon energy and vibrancy. The 2017 has been nothing short of thrilling on the four occasions I have tasted it from bottle so far. What a wine!

98+ points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Mar 2020)

This wine is structured, with dense tannins as well as impressively ripe black fruit. Showing lifted acidity, succulent blackberry flavors and elegance, it has a good future and will be ready from 2025.

96 points, Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast (Mar 2020)

Very perfumed and subtle with crushed currants, smoke and blackberries. Medium to full body. Compressed, round tannins and a flavorful finish. Shows focus and finesse with serious structure for the vintage. It grows slowly on the palate. Really beautiful. Drink after 2022.

The 2021 Troplong Mondot is fabulous. It offers up a rush of dark red-toned fruit, crushed rocks, leather, menthol, cedar and blood orange. As always, Troplong Mondot is marked by a strong presence of Cabernet Sauvignon that seems to add brooding intensity, muscle and power. I tasted it three times. A bottle given a brief decant of about 20 minutes showed best. The 2021 spent 13 months in oak (two months less than normal), in a mix of 60% new, 21% 20-hectoliter cask and 19% once-used. The 2021 is a Troplong Mondot of extreme purity and class.

96 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Feb 2024)

Spice, sandalwood and red-berry fruit aromas all come together to produce a fragrant, powerful and rich wine. Its tannins bring a firm structure to this dense wine. It is a luscious wine with a great future. Drink from 2028.

96 points, Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast (Jul 2024)

Delicate and beguiling fragrance with a bright and shiny, sleek expression on the palate. Direct and focused with tangy red berry fruit, acidity on the high side giving an immediate buzz, supportive tannins that give density and structure but retain grace and elegance. A full and serious wine while still being streamlined and on the leaner flavour spectrum. Lots of texture and interest.

96 points, Georgina Hindle, Decanter (Nov 2023)

The 2021 Troplong Mondot unwinds in the glass with aromas of dark berries, cherries and plums mingled with violets, exotic spices and smoke. Medium to full-bodied, deep and complete, the wine is layered and complex, with all the depth and authority that one expects from this clay-driven terroir, its concentrated core of fruit underpinned by sweet tannins and lively animating acids, concluding with a long, resonant finish. A blend of 85% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc with a remarkably low pH of 3.35, it's the first vintage produced in the estate's state-of-the-art new winery.

95 points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate (Feb 2024)

Elegant and refined nose with a classy touch of spices and mineral to the red currants and berries. Very sleek and linear on the palate with super polished, immaculate tannins and a very long finish. Not a powerful vintage for sure, but this is all about finesse and subtlety. Already drinkable, but can hold for a decade.

95 points, Zekun Shuai, James Suckling (Jan 2024)

The natural density and power of Troplong is a huge benefit in 2021. Love the coiled power and the precision that is on display, damson and blueberry fruit, salted cracker, density thorugh the mid palate, liqourice root and fennel signoff. A full of month of harvest, and the first time with the new cellar. One of the few that may just need a 8 to 10 before really coming into its stride.

95 points, Jane Anson (Mar 2024)

The 2021 Troplong Mondot has a deep garnet-purple color. It slowly emerges from the glass with notes of black cherries, juicy blackberries, and fresh black plums, giving way to nuances of licorice and tar, plus wafts of violets and cracked black pepper. The medium-bodied palate has a rock-solid structure of firm, grainy tannins and lively acidity supporting the tight-knit, muscular fruit, finishing long and minerally. Should age beautifully!

2023 Domaine Chavy-Chouet Puligny-Montrachet Les Enseignieres (750ml)
Chardonnay from Puligny Montrachet, Burgundy, France
B-21 Top Recommendation

Pale lemon colour, with a very attractive floral – summer flowers- bouquet, with energy on the palate. The 2023 Enseignères is stylish and classy, with a good thread of acidity running through the middle. Drink from 2028-2032. Tasted Oct 2024.

NV Fallet Dart Les Hauts Clos du Mont Extra Brut (2006) Disgorgement Apr 2023 (750ml)

96AK

Bottled as non-vintage but in reality composed entirely of the epic 2006 vintage, Fallet-Dart’s single-vineyard Les Hauts Clos du Mont is a flat-out stunning new addition to our direct-import stable, and arguably the savviest collectible Champagne buy we’ve brought on board in a long time. Located in the far-flung village of Drachy in the western Marne Valley, the site itself has been under vine for a millennium, first cultivated by the local monks (who always knew best, of course). Again, it’s 2006 vintage, bottled in 2007 (as indicated on the label), so we’re talking 17 or so years on the lees. The nose leads with super concentrated citrus and austere minerality, but it quickly opens up in enormous fashion with head-spinning complexity. Dense apple, pear, and white cherry framed by tons of deep, toasty autolytic character – biscuits, peach pie, and apricot cobbler – followed by exotic notes of candied jasmine and lychee. The palate defies logic between its highly evolved vinosity and flat-out mind-blowing freshness, given the age and sur lie duration. Perfect, bracing acidity and ultra-fine, elegant mousse segue into an emergent, mid-palate richness that offers up flavors of baked apple pie, choux pastry, elderflower liqueur, more white cherry, and wet river stones. I’ve had three vintages of this wine now from my own personal collection (2004, 2005, and now 2006), and this one takes an already astounding profile to the next level. If you’re a fan of Bollinger’s RD, set that one aside and buy three bottles of this for the same price – you won’t be disappointed.

2023 Thibaud Boudignon Savennieres Clos de Fremine (750ml)

"[Boudignon's] attention to detail in the winemaking process, precise viticulture, dedication and passion for the terroirs mark him as one of France's foremost vignerons and winemakers today." - Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate

Few winemakers have achieved such rapid ascent to cult status in the past two decades as Thibaud Boudignon. Once the long-time winemaker at Domaine de la Soucherie set out on his own, the critical and collectible aficionados took quick notice of his utterly uncompromising style and craftsmanship, and demand has been on an upward trajectory ever since. It's rare to find Boudignon's wines in any meaningful quantity, so tight are the allocations relative to their fanbase, so any time we get a chance at a parcel, especially at jaw-dropping pricing such as this, we jump at it without a second thought.

We just landed a small parcel of the newly released 2023 Clos Fremine, which will undoubtedly rack up future critical acclaim like every previous vintage, while a pair of 97-point renditions of the tête de cuvée Clos de la Hutte demonstrate clearly why Yohan Castaing declares, "[Boudignon] offers wines of purity, tension and finesse with virtually no rivals in Savennières." Showstopping terroir clarity and the potential for decades of cellar evolution put this line-up firmly in the company of France's savviest cellar-worthy white wine buys, but as you might guess, our quantities are very limited, so collectors would be wise to strike quickly at this opportunity.

Also a youthful dark ruby/magenta color, the 2021 Barbaresco Albesani reveals impressive depth in its layered notes of preserved red cherries, cedar, dusty earth, potpourri, roses, and raspberries. It’s medium-bodied but expands on the palate with a velvety texture and offers ripe tannins, seamless acidity, and wonderful length. It’s a very impressive and detailed wine to drink over the next 20 years.

95 points, Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck (May 2024)

This powerful red boasts cherry, strawberry, rose, earth, tar and underbrush aromas and flavors. The savory notes emerge as this builds to a long, solidly built finish. Shows excellent harmony, texture and staying power, with a minty finish. Best from 2029 through 2048. 330 cases made, 100 cases imported.

95 points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator (Mar 2025)

Bright and fresh with notes of red berries, dried rose hips and asphalt. Medium-bodied. It has a meaty structure with very fine tannins and bright acidity. Shows tension and focus. Spicy at the end. Try after 2026.

95 points, James Suckling (Apr 2024)

In the bottle with the cream-colored label, the Massolino 2021 Barbaresco Albesani shows redcurrant and tart berry aromas. It also has a hint of something metallic with rusty nail or tin can. The wine reveals a fluid personality with a few exciting aromatic changes along the way. That versatility bodes well for its future evolution. This is a 4,000-bottle release.

94+ points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate (Jan 2025)

The 2021 Barbaresco Albesani is a super-classic wine that is going to need time to come around. It possesses notable structure and the understated depth that is common of Barbaresco. Time in the glass brings out scents of herbs, white pepper, autumn leaves and spice. All this needs is time in bottle.

94 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Jan 2024)

Firm and structured, this wine boasts dark ripe fruits that draw the attention as aromas of blue violets lead deeper into the glass. Juicy dark cherries flavors form the core of the palate as drying blackberries, and hints of plum weave across the firm and tannic palate that is lifted by mouthwatering acidity. The 2023 Estate Pinot Noir captures the full breadth of the vineyard’s clonal diversity, rooted in the Goldridge soils of the Sonoma Coast. With ten clones planted across 21 acres, it’s blended each year to represent the best expression of the site. The 2023 vintage opens with the most floral and bright profile in the lineup: fresh roses, fresh lavender layered with crunchy red berries and tart blackberries, a subtle aroma of forest floor, and savoury herbs like sage.

This is a very linear red and layered at the same time, showing blackberry, blueberry, black-truffle, bark and stone character. Chalk and minerality, too. It’s full-bodied and well framed with gorgeous intensity and freshness. Muscular with wonderful structure and brightness. Salty and savory notes on the finish. Try after 2024.

98 points, James Suckling (Mar 2021)

The 2018 Troplong Mondot will take readers who haven't tasted these wines in a few years aback. Stunning in its aromatic presence, the 2018 is silky, medium-in body and super-refined. Once again, I am blown away by the wine's total sense of precision. The Cabernets are only 15% of the blend, and yet the 2018 is so strongly marked by floral and savory accents. Sweet red cherry, blood orange, mint, rose petal and lavender all build in the glass. The 2018 is regal, refined and absolutely exquisite.

97 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Mar 2021)

The 2018 Troplong Mondot is blended of 85% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc, with 15% alcohol. Deep garnet-purple colored, with considerable coaxing and swirling it slowly emerges from the glass like a waking giant, building to a towering bouquet of preserved plums, blueberry pie and Morello cherries with gentler wafts of violets, star anise, fruitcake and cast-iron pan. The concentrated, full-bodied palate possesses impressive purity and brightness of fruit commingled with richer, riper elements and supported by firm, velvety tannins, finishing with lovely freshness and on a lingering ferrous note. It's a wine that's not just delicious, it's seriously interesting too.

96 points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate (Mar 2021)

The 2018 Château Troplong Mondot showed beautifully. Based on 85% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Cabernet Franc, it reveals a dense purple color as well as ripe beautiful aromatics of black cherries, red plums, graphite, espresso, Asian spices, and gravelly earth. Beautiful on the palate as well, it's medium to full-bodied and has a rounded, expansive texture, plenty of mid-palate depth, building tannins, and present yet integrated oak. This classic, impressive Troplong Mondot will need 5-7 years of bottle age but will evolve for 30 years or more.

Pale in colour, very discreet on the nose, there is more concentration on the palate than was first evident, stone fruit with some ripe citrus as well, and notable length. Drink from 2028-2032. Tasted Oct 2024.

2023 Domaine Clos de la Chapelle Pommard Les Chanlins 1er Cru (750ml)
Pinot Noir from Cote de Beaune, Burgundy, France

I am not certain when these great old vines will celebrate their one hundredth birthday, but we are getting close to that landmark vintage. The 2023 Chanlins from Mark O’Connell and his team is a stunning young wine, offering up a complex and utterly refined bouquet of red and black cherries, pomegranate, pigeon, a very complex base of soil tones, a touch of nutskin, a dollop of fresh thyme, woodsmoke and cedary oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, focused and beautifully transparent down to its soil, with a superb core of fruit, good acids and grip, fine-grained tannins and excellent balance on the long, complex and very, very promising finish. This is another very elegant Pommard in the making, but it will need its proper hibernation time down in the cellar before it starts to drink with true generosity. In due course, it will be magical.

2023 Vincent Girardin Puligny Montrachet Les Vielles Vignes (750ml)
Chardonnay from Puligny Montrachet, Burgundy, France

"I have said this before but it bears repeating that Germain has been on a roll over the last 5 years and 2023 is again a fine example of that success." - Allen Meadows, Burghound

Vincent Girardin's staggering portfolio of domaine and négociant bottlings can be a daunting task to wrap your head around, but once you dive in, the whites always seem to be the ticket at this Meursault-based stalwart. Our Burgundy team's visit to the domaine last fall proved that notion in 2023 as well, a vintage which favored Chardonnay anyway.

We've already introduced you to one of this past year's shining stars in Burgundy value in the 2023 Cuvée St-Vincent Bourgogne Blanc, which B-21 buyer Andrew Kitz says "overdelivers in a big way," and now we've just received a handful of other excellent expressions that should grab the attention of any savvy white Burgundy fan. The 2023 Meursault Narvaux is a top-tier village cru that "nudges Premier Cru in quality" according to Neal Martin, also earning Outstanding and Top Value marks from Burghound. No less impressive, the "pedigreed, precise, and textbook" Puligny-Montrachet Vieilles Vignes shows that winemaker Eric Germain knows his way around outside his Meursault home turf. Turning to the 1er crus, the "elegant yet magisterial" 2023 Chassange 1er Cru La Romanée is "one to watch" according to Martin, and the JM91-94 Puligny 1er Cru Les Folatières is a superb representation of this treasured terroir that stands with the finest of the vintage.

There's no shortage of hyped-up, next big things in Burgundy, but when it comes to reliable performance year in and year out, you can't go wrong with a standard-bearer like Girardin in an excellent vintage like 2023.

The ImPex Collection Victor Ramos Coyote Verde Agave Spirit (750ml)
From Mexico

"Hands-down one of my favorite spirits of 2025, this is an absolutely gorgeous expression of agave that you need to taste to believe." - Andrew Kitz, B-21 Spirits Buyer

Mezcal is hotter than ever, and with the breadth of stylistic diversity and better-than-ever quality standards that now define the category, there's arguably no more fascinating or thrilling ground for exploration on the spirits scene right now. We've seen some real stunners come through our doors in the past year, but few if any have exhibited the kind of singular sophistication we found in this blend of agave karwinskii and agave potatorum from maestro mezcalero Victor Ramos.

Based in Miahuatlán village in Oaxaca, Tío Victor is best known for and most often associated with the Mezcaloteca and Mal Bien labels, but this single-batch expression selected and bottled by ImpEx is truly the master at his very best. Remarkably elegant and pure for a single distillation, it's a true thing of beauty. Produced on a copper alembic still and aged in glass for one year, the Coyote Verde is a "showcase of high-toned brilliance and shimmering personality that lives up to its moniker" as noted by B-21 spirits buyer Andrew Kitz.

While not exactly rare on the mezcal scene, the karwinskii and potatorum varietals are nonetheless highly sought-after for their singular profiles, and when blended and distilled together, they produce something in a class all its own. We snagged the last remaining stock of this limited-edition knockout, so don't hesitate, unless you don't mind missing out on one of the most compelling agave expressions you're likely to find.

Hands-down one of my favorite spirits of 2025, this is an absolutely gorgeous expression of agave that you need to taste to believe. Maestro Victor Ramos is one of the mezcal game’s legit all-stars, and this blend of karwinsii and potatorum is a showcase of high-toned brilliance and shimmering personality that lives up to its moniker. The nose is a soaring constellation of lime zest, jicama, aloe, fresh-cut sweet grass, and apple blossom on a foundation of painfully beautiful, clean minerality, the complexity of which defies true description. It expands to include dried red currant, dried grasses, the savory side of agave, and a subtle smoky note that almost comes off as fresh asphalt. The palate offers up super-lively, racy energy that plays incredibly well with the medium weight and texture. Dark currant and anise are upfront, along with smoky, volcanic minerality, black peppercorn, and a complex amalgam of exotic spices. There’s some elevated lemon pith and geranium in there alongside the graphite and crushed gravel of the medium-long finish that sizzles with nervous energy. I don’t generally claim to want to drink anything all day, but…I could drink this all day.
