I began using B21 about 2 years ago. Wish I had found them sooner. They represent about 70% to 80 % of my liquor buys. Only the odd things are purchased elsewhere. Once you use them you will be hooked. Inventory, professional staff, quick shipping and competative pricing are what I really appreciate. Try them, you have nothing to lose and much to gain.

2022 Larrivet Haut Brion Rouge (750ml)

Merlot from Pessac-Leognan, Bordeaux, France

B-21 Top Recommendation

"Confirming my expectations, the 2022 Larrivet Haut-Brion is one of the best wines ever produced at this estate." - Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate

As part of the general trend of overperforming Pessac estates in the past decade, Larrivet Haut-Brion's stock is steadily rising among the critical press and Bordeaux enthusiasts alike. Thanks to the guiding hand of famed enologist Michel Rolland, the style of the estate's wines has taken on an unprecedented level of class and polish culminating in the spectacular 2022 vintage. Following the overall character of the vintage, this triple 95-point, sub-$50 standout is "a dramatic, deeply resonant wine" with loads of structural stuffing to go the distance in the cellar.

To further emphasize the estate's marvelous recent trajectory, we also have four back-vintage gems on offer that showcase how well Larrivet performs year in and year out. The 2016 is now in its prime drinking window where it will remain for years, while the 95-point 2019 shows "a rich, broad, mouth-filling, spicy, complex and full-bodied style that has loads to love" per Jeb Dunnuck. Keen-eyed collectors also won't sleep on the AG95 rendition from the "off-vintage" of 2017. "Bold, rich and intense, the 2017 exudes tremendous depth and intensity ... Readers should expect a wine of real energy and explosive power," declares Galloni.

All in all, we love featuring Pessac, because the appellation is rife with stupendous collectible values, and while collectors often focus on building verticals of Bordeaux's most hallowed names, this line-up proves that you can get tremendous mileage out of doing the same with under-the-radar gems like Larrivet.

The 2022 Château Larrivet Haut-Brion checks in as 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Cabernet Franc, and 18% Merlot that spent 16 months in barrel. Its deep ruby/purple hue is followed by a beautifully perfumed, medium to full-bodied, elegant 2022 that has red, blue, and some black fruits, a lifted, floral perfume of incense, smoky tobacco, and blood orange, fine, polished tannins, and a great finish. It's beautifully done, and while it's already accessible, it should age beautifully for two decades.

95 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Feb 2025)

Such beautiful aromas of blackberries, flowers, nettles and crushed stones follow through to a medium body with firm yet open tannins and a long and crunchy finish. Needs three or four years to come together but very well-constructed. 61% cabernet sauvignon, 21% cabernet franc and 18% merlot. 5% whole-bunch fermentation. Drink after 2029.

95 points, James Suckling (Jan 2025)

The 2022 Larrivet Haut-Brion is dense, powerful and explosive. Black cherry, plum, new leather, licorice and mocha are amplified in this dramatic, deeply resonant wine. Gorgeous.

94 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Jan 2025)

The assemblage here is led by Cabernet Sauvignon, at 61% of the total, with 21% Cabernet Franc and just 18% Merlot, the only cuvée in the appellation to relegate this variety into third place. This is surely relevant when it comes to the aromatics, which are an absolute delight, immediately reminding me of the 2016 vintage, with finely desiccated currant and blackberry wrapped up with Cabernet Franc tobacco and pencil shavings, perfumed oak, slate, sage, white flowers, sandalwood and crushed chalk. The palate is totally correct, deft and light-footed, with a coherent composition, beautifully cut with toast and matchstick notes, but ultimately this is a wine of dark and driven fruit with a wealth of softening components wrapped around the periphery, set in a medium-bodied substance. A really classy Pessac-Léognan, with a long grip of Cabernet tannins;one for the cellar. Tasted twice. The alcohol on the label is 14%.

94 points, Chris Kissack, Wine Independent (Jun 2025)

Highly aromatic and fragrant nose full of dark berry fruits, dried flowers and chocolate. Well sculpted on the palate, tannins give the frame and strength while the bright red, juicy berry fruit adds lift. There's still some tension to this - it drives in a straight line from start to finish with crushed stones, graphite and cola accenting the finish. Still feels a little shy but I love the styling and precision to the elements. A flash of heat and spice on the finish puts the vintage into the picture and suggests waiting a little longer to enjoy this but it's very nice.

94 points, Georgina Hindle, Decanter (Jan 2025)

Confirming my expectations, the 2022 Larrivet Haut-Brion is one of the best wines ever produced at this estate. Revealing a complex, vibrant bouquet of cassis, lilac, iris, mulberries, spices and menthol complemented by barely noticeable oak, it's medium to full-bodied and layered with a seamless, pure texture and a fleshy core of fruit perfectly framed by velvety tannins and bright acids. The Cabernet Franc contributes a floral finish, while the Cabernet Sauvignon adds a balanced structure. It should age gracefully.

93 points, Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate (Mar 2025)

An elegant wine with a blueberry and chocolate aroma and touches of toast. With its ripe tannins and succulent black fruits, the wine has a dense structure. Drink from 2028.

93 points, Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast (Oct 2025)

Lovely aromatics here, dives straight in to a charming, fruit-filled glass, nothing too concentrated in colour or on the nose, still with plenty of personality. Edge of vanilla bean smoke on the nose, there is a sweetness here, raspberry puree, fragrant lemongrass, violet and cherry pit. Enjoyable, fresh acidities on the finish. Dominant Cabernet, with over 80% between Sauvignon and Franc, and a generous for the vintage 40hl/h yield. 15% whole cluster, aged in a mix of amphora, new barrels and one year old barrels. Tasted twice.

93 points, Jane Anson (Mar 2025)
