Great, as usual. I can only shop in state stores when I'm home (in PA). But I did get email from them about online wine sales (I took the B‑21 ad in a couple of months ago and showed it to them and their new (never seen before) PA online ad looked very similar to B‑21 (except the prices weren't as good).

It was so nice to order and have delivered that I ordered my sisters favorite wine for Christmas and had it delivered. Then I will show up at her house without carrying that huge heavy package and just enjoy Christmas. Just a thought if you don't want to deliver but want to enjoy the enjoyies. LOL

Andre Clouet Brut Grande Reserve (750ml)
Pinot Noir from Bouzy, Champagne, France
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

As the head of the historic Champagne house named for his grandfather Andre Clouet, larger than life vigneron Jean-François Clouet is considered by critics as one of the top grower-producers in the region. Jean-François' flamboyant personality, dubbed by one reviewer as a combination of "winemaker and circus ringmaster," belies his serious dedication and singular passion for producing rich and concentrated expressions of Pinot Noir-based Champagne, also known as Blanc de Noirs. From the outstanding 91pt non-vintage Grande Reserve to the exceptional 96pt Brut 1911, the champagnes of Andre Clouet exhibit the purity of the Pinot Noir fruit, with terroir-driven chalky minerality and deep complexity, ranking Andre Clouet among the region's finest producers and representing one of its best values.

Inextricably tied to Champagne's history, the Clouet family have resided in the Montagne de Reims since 1492, first serving as book printers for King Louis XV in 1491 (a legacy now reflected in the Champagne house's ornate labels), producing their first champagne in Bouzy in 1741. Highlighting the Grand Cru pedigree of their 8 hectares of mid-slope sites in Bouzy and Ambonnay, the top cuvees are sourced from these estate vineyards, with additional Pinot Noir purchased from 60 hectares of growers' vineyards and each plot vinified separately. While upholding his family's traditional approach in the vineyard including hand pruning and selection, Francois continues to innovate in the cellar, including employing Sauternes barrels sourced from Château Doisy-Daëne for aging the Brut 1911 as a way of reducing the dosage, with the goal of adjusting sweetness without adding sugar. Exhibiting a gentle mousse and refined bubbles, the wines of André Clouet also boast notably creamy textures due to Jean-François' practice of extended aging on the lees, balancing crisp acidity and tantalizing minerality.

While Andre Clouet remains relatively under the radar among the grower-producers in Champagne, these highly rated selections are among the best Blanc de Noir wines of the region, at a fraction of the price of prestige offerings from the larger Champagne houses like Krug and Bollinger. With the holiday season quickly approaching, this is the perfect opportunity to stock up on an array of the exquisite, artisanal Champagnes of Andre Clouet, one of the finest grower estates in the region today, whether for everyday enjoyment, celebrations or gifting and now offered at the best pricing on the market.

The effusive nose of candied citrus, ripe pear and brioche pulls you into this fresh and creamy champagne that hits all the pleasure buttons for a non-vintage Brut. Then the chalky freshness at the finish pulls you back for another sip. Excellent balance! 100% pinot noir. Drink now.

93 points, James Suckling (Jul 2022)

Incredible value for a blanc de noirs (100% Pinot Noir) grower Champagne from the grand cru vineyards of Bouzy. It shows gorgeous aromas of stone fruit, citrus and strawberry, with complex brioche nuances, remarkable balance, ongoing elegance and a rich, refined, persistent finish.

92 points, Stacy Slinkard, Decanter (Mar 2021)

The NV Brut Grand Réserve Grand Cru is a pure Pinot Noir from Bouzy. It's pure, fresh, fine and aromatic on the nose and round and delicate on the palate. The fruit-intense finish is chalky-mineral and stimulatingly fresh in its salty finesse and elegant yeastiness. Nice lemon juice flavors give an extra kick of refreshment. This is a picture-book NV Brut. No indication of disgorgement given. Tasted with Jean-François Clouet's German importer in Bremen.

2017 La Rioja Alta Reserva Vina Ardanza (750ml)
Tempranillo from Rioja, Spain
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

Described as "a wine that embodies the long history of Rioja" by Joaquin Hidalgo of Vinous, the 95-point 2017 La Rioja Alta Reserva Vina Ardanza hits the mark as one of the region's finest classically styled reds, offering fragrant, juicy dark fruit impeccably balanced by refined, polished tannins on a lingering finish. Named one of the Top 100 Wines of Spain in 2023 by James Suckling, it's an alluring Rioja ready to enjoy over the next decade at an unbeatable price.

La Rioja Alta is renowned for releasing its wines late with extended aging, its massive cellars filled with "the equivalent of eight years in stock" according to Wine Advocate's Luis Gutierrez. Produced only in top vintages, the 2017 Reserva Vina Ardanza came from vines over 30 years of age in the Rioja Alta sub-region, along with Garnacha from the hotter and drier 40-hectare La Pedriza vineyard, a Rioja Oriental parcel considered prime terroir for optimal ripening. Employing traditional techniques including manual racking by candlelight and fermenting with indigenous yeasts, the refined 2017 Reserva Vina Ardanza aged separately in a mix of 20% new and three-year-old American oak barrels for up to three years, with the final blend spending three more years in bottle before release, yielding "a vibrant red wine with harmonious balance" according to Vinous' Joaquin Hidalgo.

Critic Tim Atkin calls the elegant, 95-point 2017 La Rioja Alta Reserva Vina Ardanza "a delicious release" reflecting the iconic estate's reputation "for producing wines that are good to drink on release, but also age beautifully in bottle." It's a winning combination for Rioja lovers of all stripes.

95JS 94WA 93V

A more vibrant and fruitier expression of Ardanza this year with strawberries, mussels, warm spices and berries. Round and silky on the palate with lovely spices and a long, nicely saline finish. A nice touch of creaminess works really well here and further extends the finish. 80% tempranillo and 20% garnacha. Drink or hold.

95 points, Zekun Shuai, James Suckling (Jan 2024)

2017 was not an easy harvest, but it produced some beautiful and classical wines, like the 2017 Viña Ardanza Reserva, which shows a little more advancement and polish and is ready to drink. It was produced with 80% Tempranillo and 20% Garnacha from their vineyard La Pedriza in Tudelilla. It fermented in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and matured in American oak barrels, 36 months for the Tempranillo and 30 for the Garnacha (that was harvested 15 days later), with six rackings. It's ripe and aromatic, tertiary, with 14.5% alcohol and mellow acidity, a medium-bodied palate and sleek tannins. It has a pungent note of clove and pepper, some licorice and ink and the cherries in liqueur from the Garnacha. An updated classical Ardanza. 600,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2021.

94 points, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate (Feb 2024)

Viña Ardanza is a wine that embodies the long history of Rioja. The 2017 Gran Reserva Viña Ardanza is a blend of 80% Tempranillo and 20% Garnacha sourced from Rioja Alta and Oriental. Aged for up to 36 months in American oak, it presents a ripe profile with aromas of black fruit, earth and balsamic, complemented by cedar and vanilla. On the palate, it is dry and rich, with a juicy texture and fine, polished tannins that culminate in a bold and lingering finish. This is a vibrant red wine with harmonious balance.

B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

The Hartford Family's roots in Sonoma's Russian River Valley are second to none, and they farm some of the Golden State's most prized plots of old-vine Zinfandel, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay. Their reference-point range runs the gamut from incredible single-vineyard expressions to some of the greatest bang-for-the-buck values in the appellation.

"A lot of wine for the value," the 2022 Russian River Pinot Noir delivers everything that long-time fans of the estate are looking for. Pure Pinot Noir charm is on full display in vibrant, ripe fruit, silky texture, and, most importantly, superb balance, all at an easy price that makes this undisputed crowd-pleaser accessible to a broad audience. The 2023 Russian River Chardonnay is "a worthy follow-up to the brilliant 2022," displaying classic, richly textured Russian River fruit, vibrant acidic balance, and a luxurious finish that reveals its world-class pedigree. Fans of California Chardonnay may have grown used to overpaying for underwhelming quality, but this 93-point, sub-$20 beauty is ideally suited to buck that trend.

Turning to the estate's wheelhouse, the 95-point 2022 Russian River Valley Old Vine Zinfandel captures everything that makes this cuvée a perennial favorite among fans of great California Zin. Blended from six top-tier old-vine sites spread across the Russian River AVA (several of which make up the estate's highly acclaimed, single-vineyard range), the 2022 is everything you're looking for in a classic California Zin. Speaking of single-vineyard Zins, don't miss the trio of top-flight expressions below, highlighted by the WS96 Highwire Vineyard from the acclaimed 2023 vintage. "Zin rarely shows this much focus and tenstion," notes Wine Spectator, and we couldn't agree more.

Whether you're looking for an easy everyday go-to or a top-tier reference-point expression for the cellar, this range from Hartford has it in spades.

93JD 92RAS

Another appellation wine, the 2023 Chardonnay Russian River Valley is a bright golden yellow color and offers notes of poached yellow apples, toasted spice, almond, chamomile, and lemon curd. The palate is full-bodied and elegant, as is characteristic of this vintage, and has an even and floating feel on the finish. It’s ripe and has a more pithy texture, but it’s well-detailed and more immediate. Well-suited for restaurants, it should drink well now or over the coming 5-6 years.

93 points, Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck (Jul 2025)

A worthy follow-up to the brilliant 2022, the 2023 further reinforces our position that there isn't a better Russian River Chardonnay value out there. Layers of peach and pear complemented by vibrant acidity yet with weight and density, intriguing spice with a honey noted finish.

Our recently arrived direct-import container brought in a trove of beauties, among them a fantastic roster of must-try overperformers from the world's best source - Bordeaux. That's right, $1,000 First Growths aside, Bordeaux is still the greatest hotbed of superb quality at the value price tier. These 2019s and 2020s from both the Right and Left Banks epitomize the values you can find here, if you know where to look.

Haut-Medoc's Larrivaux delivers the goods at the $20 mark, with a pair of eminently charming, approachable winners, while the "wonderfully pure, medium-bodied, elegant, and seamless" 2019 La Prade is a chance to get can't-miss Right Bank class from the winemaking skills of the talented Nicolas Thienpont, all at a case-buy price.

""This is a really fabulous Cantemerle that surely represents outstanding value. No excuse not to have this in your cellar," declares, Neal Martin of Vinous. Finally, our score of the season on the Right Bank is undoubtedly the 94-point, "utterly delicious" 2019 Rol Valentin, which Neal Martin proclaims, "one of the finest I have tasted in recent years." We recently scored a parcel at a jaw-dropping price that's the best in the world, so this is the trophy value score you've been looking for.

Any way you look at it, Bordeaux continues to deliver the goods at this price tier. There are countless unbelievable deals to be found in such a vast and varied regions, but we've done our digging and these are some of the best.

A red with lots of currant, blackberry, fresh-herb and tobacco character. Hint of mushroom, too. It’s full and layered with polished, chewy tannins and a bright and fresh finish. Very long and focused. Give it time to come together. Very classic character here. Best after 2026.

95 points, James Suckling (Feb 2022)

Green pepper and herbaceous notes on the nose with minty eucalyptus alongside ripe cherry and blackcurrant aromas - so classic. A lovely mouthfeel here, smooth, well defined and preise. Quite direct, serious and darkly fruited - such a concentrated core - but with smooth tannins, a soft sweetness and freshness that lifts the overall frame. Balanced with succulence. Makes a lasting impact and impression. A great value pick.

94 points, Georgina Hindle, Decanter (Jan 2022)

The 2019 Cantemerle has a fruit-driven bouquet with opulent blackberry and blueberry fruit, certainly one of the most floral in the flight with pressed violets developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with very supple tannins, fleshy and rounded, though I am looking for more tension and precision on the finish. This is a really fabulous Cantemerle that surely represents outstanding value. No excuse not to have this in your cellar. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.

93 points, Neal Martin, Vinous (Feb 2023)

Sweet berry, plum and cassis fruit, this is ripe with precision, finesse and tension, fragrant rose and black tea aromatics, balanced, easy to share, the finesse of Cantemerle is on full display, chalky with a scrape of graphite, plenty of Left Bank signature. 55hl/h yield, 40% new oak for ageing, Eric Boissenot consultant, Philippe Dambrine estate director.

Ripe, succulent ... generous and juicy ...The intensity persists on the finish." - Wine Spectator

Since its founding in 1988, Patz & Hall has done as much as any other producer to define Sonoma's modern wine scene, from expressive appellation bottlings to flat-out superb single-vineyard gems from the region's most storied and coveted sites.

One of the greatest features of the appellation bottlings is that they comprise many of those same incredible vineyard sites that form the top end of the range, which goes a long way in explaining the outstanding, 93-point 2022 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay. Sourced from six blocks of the famed Dutton ranch and augmented by fruit from such illustrious locales as Durell, Zio Tony, Gap's Crown, and Parmalee-Hill, the 2022 displays all the hallmark features of the ultra-classic Sonoma profile – big, vibrant fruit, soaring aromatics, scintillating tension, and exceptional balance, all at a price that makes it one of the most versatile offerings in its category. Equally impressive and maybe more so, the 96-point 2021 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir stands as one of the sharpest buys in Cali Pinot in our entire inventory, with a "Textbook vintage and AVA profile" that landed it a spot on last year's Wine Spectator Top 100 list.

Our long-time California fans are by now well familiar with the benchmark quality and character of Patz & Hall's wines, and this pair delivers everything you've come to love from a true Sonoma icon.

Andre Clouet Brut Un Jour de 1911...Grand Cru (750ml)

The NV Un jour de 1911... is another 100% Bouzy Pinot Noir with an ancient label design. The shining golden-colored cuvée combines ripeness, complexity and finesse with intensity and elegance on both the nose and palate. It's a powerful and rich yet very fine and balanced Champagne with great freshness and complex length. It is juicy and intense but also highly delicate, and its mineral tension and persistent finish make it a first-class wine for elaborate dishes. A great Champagne, with a label that doesn't give any more detailed information regarding vintages or disgorgement date, but we know it's always a 50/50 blend of three vintages (including one great millésime at least 10 years old) and reserve wines from a solera system. I tasted the wine as a Brut with Clouet's German importer in Bremen. You shouldn't drink it too early, as it would be a waste of its talents.

2021 Produttori del Barbaresco (750ml)
Nebbiolo from Barbaresco, Piedmont, Italy
B-21 Top Recommendation

"The 2021s are marvelously complete wines that offer a captivating mix of energy, structure, depth and plenty of site character." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

To paraphrase Mark Twain's infamous quip about good whiskey, too much great wine is not enough, and we still can't get enough of Barbaresco's epic 2021 vintage. Ever since these wines began to hit the market, they've delivered on the early praise that was heaped on them by critics across the board. There's obviously no shortage of spectacular buys in this vintage, but that breadth of choice can often make selection daunting, so we've hand-picked some of our absolute favorites get you going in this reference-point campaign.

Massolino shines with a pair of superb offerings in their "super-classic" village bottling and their triple 95-point Albesani single cru. Produttori's 2021 village bottling is once again one of the steals of the vintage. With 95+ points from Wine Advocate, it's a "a classical expression of Nebbiolo that gives us good reason to be excited for the upcoming 2021 Barbaresco Riservas."

Next up, the 2021 Fontanabianca Bordini is a no-brainer, razor-sharp buy for Piedmont collectors looking to maximize their collectible bang for the buck, a "stunning ,,, utterly delicious" offering with glowing accolades from several critics, led by Kerin O'Keefe's 96 points and 95 points from Larner. Finally, don't miss the single-cru sleeper stars from Albino Rocca and Giuseppe Cortese. "This vivid, sculpted Barbaresco is hugely promising," writes Galloni in his 95-point review of Rocca's 2021 Ronchi. He likewise praises Cortese's 2021 rendition of the iconic Rabaja cru as "complex, dynamic and youthfully austere—in other words, it's classic Rabajà ... a drop-dead gorgeous beauty."

This wine gives us our first taste of the epic 2021 vintage from a producer as prolific as Produttori del Barbaresco. Bottled in April 2024, this vintage shows the immense power and complexity that likens it to 2016, another year for collectors. The 2021 Barbaresco offers medium-rich density that is transmitted both to the wine's appearance and its mouthfeel. There is black fruit, spice and a touch of nutmeg. However, the wine maintains its youthful tension and energy throughout. The tannins are chalky, fine and void of any bitterness. This is a classical expression of Nebbiolo that gives us good reason to be excited for the upcoming 2021 Barbaresco Riservas.

95+ points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate (Jan 2025)

The 2021 Barbaresco offers more complexity and sports a bit deeper shade of red than the 2021. Layered with aromas of kirsch, darker spice, cardamom, candied flowers, and orange peel, the palate is more structured and compact, with savory notes of salty earth, angular, ripe tannins, and its more citrus-noted acidity shining on the palate. It has more nervous energy and needs more time. Give it another couple years and drink 2027-2046.

94 points, Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck (May 2025)

A vibrant, well-defined red, offering rose, cherry, strawberry, white pepper and mineral flavors. Sleek and elegant, this firms up on the linear finish. Balanced and approachable now yet would benefit from a bit more time to knit together. Excellent length.

94 points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator (Apr 2025)

#7 - Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2025

An intriguing wine with aromas of potpourri, dried cherries and candied orange zest. Smoky and juicy on the palate, with firm, dusty yet ripe tannins, a full body and a long, savory finish. Drinkable now, but it has great potential for the long haul.

2024 Ca dei Frati Lugana I Frati (750ml)
Turbiana from Lugana, Lombardy, Italy
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

Equally appealing to Italian wine lovers seeking value and anyone looking for a deliciously crisp, well-crafted white wine at bargain pricing, the beautifully aromatic 2021 Ca dei Frati Lugana I Frati offers rich, ripe fruit and zesty mineral-driven acidity, reflecting its glacial origins overlooking the sparkling turquoise waters of Italy's Lake Garda and "always an excellent value" according to Robert Parker Jr., now bargain priced to easily become your new house Italian white.

Recognizing the area's potential for cultivating grapes for wine, Ca dei Frati founder Felice Dal Cero took over the rundown 18th century Frati farm on the southern shore of Lake Garda in 1939 and set about improving viticulture and modernizing winemaking over the next three decades alongside his son Pietro, who was instrumental in the creation of the Lugana DOC in 1969 and responsible for their first official bottling. Now run by third generation siblings Gian Franco, Anna Maria and winemaker Igino Dal Cero, the family run Ca' dei Frati winery is based in Lake Garda's historic village of Lugana di Sirmione, surrounded by estate vineyards planted with the indigenous Turbiana, a distinct varietal previously called Trebbiano di Lugana from which the Lugana white wine is made. Ranging up to 40 years of age on glacial calcareous and clay soils that limit yields and contribute minerality, the Turbiana vines enjoy the lakeside's unique microclimate of warm days and ever present drying breezes, enhancing even ripening while preserving freshness and keeping the well ventilated grapes free of mold. Crafted from 100% Turbiana and fermented in stainless steel, the crisp and appealing 2024 Lugana I Frati was aged on the lees in stainless for 6 months with another 2 months in bottle before release, yielding fresh, alluring aromas and richly textured fruit hinting of saline-tinged minerality and finishing with tantalizing acidity that begs for another sip.

Formerly a coveted discovery of tourists who flock to the shores of Lake Garda each summer, the secret is out on the bright and elegant 2021 Ca dei Frati Lugana I Frati, an easy to love and affordably priced Italian white wine crafted by one of the region's top producers that you'll find yourself reaching for again and again.

Margaret River on the west coast of Australia has arguably been the most dynamic region Down Under for at least the past decade, and the pioneering Vasse Felix estate has been at the forefront of this emergence since its founding in the late 1960s.From collectible trophies on down to the entry-level end of the spectrum, this estate has been "one of the region's standard bearers" according to Wine Advocate's Joe Czerwinski. it's that entry-level, quality-to-price charm that makes this pair on offer today such compelling propositions for any fan of Cabernet and Chardonnay value, no matter where it's from.

The 2021 Filius Cabernet is already a proven best seller at B-21, having notched 93 points from Wine Spectator as well as the #2 spot on their annual Top 10 Wine Values list in 2023. "Stunning and complex, [a] stylish, concentrated red," the 2021 offers a quintessential Margaret River signature on top of pure Cabernet character that stands up to any expression in its price tier. If Chardonnay is your go-to white, then you can also add the 2023 Filius to your rotation. "Bright and expressive with plenty of precision," it more than earns its 94-point score from Wine Enthusiast, and with a sub-$20, case-buy price, it might just earn the top spot at all your summer get togethers.

Stunning and complex, this stylish, concentrated red offers pure raspberry puree and black cherry flavors that show details of earthy dried porcini mushroom, along with notes of toasted herbs, sandalwood and espresso bean. The long finish reveals firming tannins, but they remain polished and effortless. Drink now through 2038. 15,000 cases imported.

#2 - Wine Spectator Top 10 Wine Values of 2023

Plenty on offer for the price, although paradoxically not the best vintage for a value offering. The tannins, a bit bony and ungenerous. Conversely, I like the savory elements here and feel that things will gel and fill out with time. A slick of blackcurrant, green bean, sage and mint, before the shins and elbows of youth nudge the inner gums. Despite the accessible pricing, give this time. Drink or hold.

Refined nose with peppery and earthy undertones to the savory berry fruit, subtle vanilla and orange. Minerals as well. This is firm and quite long on the palate, with medium body and a traditional, nicely rustic twist at the end. Really poised and persistent, showing precision and finesse. One of the best Reserva expressions lately from Marques de Riscal? A joy to drink now, but will hold well over the next 10 years.

2016 Lopez de Heredia Vina Cubillo Tinto Crianza (750ml)
Tempranillo from Rioja, Spain
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

The López de Heredia new releases are always some of the anticipated of the year, and kicking off this round, we have the standard bearer for Crianza Rioja, from a stellar vintage to boot.

"The 2016 Viña Cubillo Tinto Crianza was surprising, spectacular, elegant, clean and fresh like few vintages before." - Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate

Racking up three 94-point scores, the 2016 Cubillo is a jaw-dropping performer in its category. The vineyard itself is a true gem, capable of producing at the Gran Reserva level, but winemaker Mercedes López de Heredia insists on making the Crianza because it's just that important to their entire range. The lovely 2016 vintage gave the estate everything they were looking for – "quality, quantity and freshness" as Gutiérrez notes – and the resulting wine checks every box. "Firm and juicy with a vibrant core" according to Joaquin Hidalgo of Vinous, the 2016 offers fans of the estate a prime example of LdH's traditional Rioja style, and our private client price, which is far too low to publish online, offers you the opportunity to stock up big, so you can enjoy this best-in-class stunner time and time again for years to come.

94WA 94V 94JS

The 2016 Viña Cubillo Tinto Crianza was surprising, spectacular, elegant, clean and fresh like few vintages before. It was a superb year, with quality, quantity and freshness. It's quite the opposite from the previous 2015, which was a much warmer and riper year. The 2016s have moderate alcohol and especially the perception of less ripeness (even though the alcohol is very similar). It feels very young, still quite primary. Mercedes explained, "Cubillas, a 24-hectare plot, is a vineyard that could produce Gran Reserva wines. It's a very good vineyard, but we would miss the Crianza in our range". In fact, the comment was that this vintage is even a challenge for the Viña Tondonia red "because of its price." It is indeed a bargain. "But it doesn't have the finesse of Tondonia," concluded María José. Anyway, it's super tasty. 92,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in November 2022.

94 points, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate (Feb 2024)

The 2016 Crianza Viña Cubillo, from Haro in Rioja Alta, underwent a three-year aging process in used oak barrels. Garnet in color, the wine reveals enticing notes of cherry marmalade, complemented by herbal, mint-like hints. Dry, intense and fairly grippy, the 2016 also features a mild chalky texture. Firm and juicy with a vibrant core, it presents itself as a flavorful red in its primary state. I anticipate that further bottle-aging will unlock deeper complexities, and I look forward to revisiting it in the years to come.

94 points, Joaquín Hidalgo, Vinous (Apr 2024)

Savory berries with aromas of white pepper, blood orange peel, preserved plums, iron and a touch of dust. Still pretty structured and intense, with a medium to full body, but juicy and long. Drink or hold.

2021 Bodegas Muga Reserva (750ml)
Tempranillo from Rioja, Spain
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

Bodegas Muga's status as an all-time Rioja reference-point is reaffirmed with this sterling foursome of releases that we just secured at razor-sharp pricing. Leading off we have a Prado Enea for the ages.

"The expressive, complex and nuanced 2016 Prado Enea Gran Reserva is a textbook traditional Rioja in the making ... with all the components in the right proportion to age superbly in bottle." - Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate

Muga's flagship bottling is always a coveted item, and this WA97+ rendition is already showing legendary pedigree that will thrill collectors and connoisseurs of Spain's finest. A universally lauded expression of this classic Rioja Gran Reserva, the 2016 boasts towering press including no fewer than four 97-point scores, putting it in rarified air among the greatest vintages of this Spanish icon in the 21st century. "A brilliant wine with a solid two decades of prime drinking ahead of it" per Jeb Dunnuck, this is collectible Rioja class at its very best, and it's now available to our private clients at a must-see price that you won't find anywhere else.

The Selección Especial Reserva is always a crowd and collectible favorite in the range and always priced well for a broad audience yet offering the kind of cellar-worthy appeal that serious collectors are looking for. The 2020 rendtion ramps up the collectible appeal thanks to a particular feature of the vintage itself – no Prado Enea was made in 2020, so all the fruit and juice that would normally comprise that flagship icon has instead gone into the Selección Especial. So, it's no surprise that the 2020 picks up right where the 2019 leaves off, led by Jeb Dunnuck's 95-point review that highlights its "medium to full-bodied richness, a round, layered mouthfeel, and silky tannins," which makes it "already hard to resist."

Finally, the newly released 2021 Reserva Rioja is one of the sharpest values in Spanish wine, "a textbook example of [Muga's] style in a very good year, with power, concentration and clout, elegance and freshness" perGutiérrez' 94-point review in Wine Advocate. It's a perfect candidate to stack by the case, since it will not only cruise for several years in the cellar, but it will quench your thirst for Muga excellence anytime over the next decade while the you wait for the big boys to reach their prime drinking windows. For fans of Spanish wine and of Rioja in particular, this is a spectacular opportunity to load up on proven performers that will put many smiles on your face for countless years to come, at market-best pricing.

The grapes for the 2021 Reserva (sold as Crianza in Spain), mostly Tempranillo with some Garnacha Tinta, Mazuelo and Graciano, were picked late in a cooler year when they finished the harvest the 20th of October, with plenty of times for the grapes to develop full aromas and flavors and complete ripeness. It fermented destemmed and lightly crushed in oak vats with indigenous yeasts, separating qualities, villages and soils, and matured in 80% French and 20% American oak barrels, 20% of them new, for 24 months, with racking every eight to nine months. It's a textbook example of their style in a very good year, with power, concentration and clout, elegance and freshness. It was a very harmonious year; the cycle was long and the tannins ripened to perfection. It's terrific and more so for the volume they produce (984,000 bottles of it). It was fined with egg whites and bottled in January 2024.

2015 Chateau Pontet-Canet (750ml)
Cabernet Sauvignon from Pauillac, Bordeaux, France
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

Alfred Tesseron and his team, led by estate manager Jean-Michel Comme, have completely transformed both the vineyards and identity of Château Pontet-Canet by embracing organic and biodynamic practices. Recognizing the extraordinary terroir of Pontet Canet – the heart lies in a plateau outcropping of Garonne Gunz gravel which overlays limestone bedrock, these poor soils allow drainage that's optimal for Cabernet. The center of this plateau is planted to Cabernet Franc which is surrounded by Cabernet Sauvignon. Merlot is planted on the gravelly clay soils that meet the perimeter of the gravel plateau. Tesseron's campaign for biodynamic agriculture began in 2004 and tasting results confirmed this to be the estate's future; the Medoc's first Classified Growth dedicated to biodynamics. Pontet Canet received its organic certification in 2010 and Demeter in 2014 – the world's largest certification organization for biodynamic agriculture used in 50 countries. Three Breton draft horses were added to the estate's stable replacing tractors in 2008, now at total of seven horses tend the vineyards. With great terroir and extraordinary dedication to excellence, Tesseron has elevated Pontet Canet beyond its historic performance; now among the top estates in Bordeaux.

So much floral and dark-fruit character with almonds and walnut shell. Full body and ultra-fine tannins. Powerful. Classic style with a harmony and energy. Goes on for minutes. A superb wine with great fruit. Real Bordeaux. Try in 2025.

98 points, James Suckling (Dec 2018)

Proprietor Alfred Tesseron and winemaker Jean-Michel Comme produced an absolutely stellar Pontet-Canet in 2015. Sumptuous, racy and totally inviting, the 2015 is all class. Super-ripe dark cherry, plum, spice and exotic floral notes build as the 2015 shows off its alluring personality. Even with all of its raciness, the 2015 speaks with authority and power. Fine tannins extend the persistent, highly nuanced finish. The 2015 is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot aged 50% new oak, 4% in terra cotta and 15% in neutral oak. Tasted three times.

97+ points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Feb 2018)

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2015 Pontet-Canet comes charging out of the glass with fantastically expressive notes of black cherry preserves, black raspberries and blackcurrant pastilles plus touches of kirsch, wilted roses, tobacco, camphor and cinnamon stick with a waft of fragrant soil. Full bodied, the palate is laden with black and red fruit layers, supported by very firm, very finely grained tannins and provocative freshness, finishing with incredible length and stunningly perfumed.

Succulent fruits, rich tannins and juicy acidity are in perfect harmony in this wine produced from biodynamic grapes. "Very fresh and clean with a mountain stream-like transparency. It's light-bodied but has a density and tension as well as subtle and vivid flavors..." - James Suckling

Like many of the top properties in Chlie and Argentina that have been established by Bordeaux royalty, New Zealand's Clos Henri has its roots with a legendary French winemaking family. With ten generations of experience making some of Sancerre's finest wines, Domaine Henri Bourgeois knows a thing or two about Sauvignon Blanc, and it makes perfect sense that they'd set up shop in New World's most dynamic Sauv Blanc region. The 2023 vintage has already brought us one smash-hit from this pedigreed estate, and now we're back with another. With not one, not two, but three 93-point scores behind it, the 2023 Estate Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is a hallmark representation of the region's classic terroir as well as a testament to the unmatched depth of expertise that the Bourgois family brings to the world of Sauvignon Blanc. "Powerfully concentrated, energetic and alive" according to Wine Advocate, the 2023 delivers superb value and world-class quality that outpace most contenders in the category.

93WA 93WE 93JS

The 2023 Sauvignon Blanc is powerfully concentrated, energetic and alive, with lashings of white spice, gooseberry, shortcrust pastry, tarragon/shaved fennel, aniseed, white chocolate and vanilla sponge. In the mouth, the acidity bolsters the fruit and makes for an explosive impact here. The wines from Clos Henri come highly recommended: founded by a tenth-generation Sancerre-based Bourgeois family, they have detailed viticulture and a respect for the terroir here in Marlborough. The fault line through the vineyard makes for an interesting topic of conversation. It all goes a long way to building a substantial story of place and style. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

93 points, Erin Larkin, Wine Advocate (Dec 2024)

From a top biodynamic estate, this punches well above its price point, with none of the underripe Marlborough Sauvignon characteristics and all of the enticement of orchard blossoms and honey-drizzled citrus fruit. There's a signature stony mineral nuance at its core. The palate is harmonious with just-right acidity, lovely texture, flavor concentration and a long limey finish. Yum.

Few wines in South America have the reference-point track record to match Concho Y Toro's tête de cuvée Don Melchor Cabernet Sauvignon, and now with the crown of #1 Wine of 2024 from Wine Spectator, even fewer will. Ever since the release of the Top 10 last year, it's been a struggle to keep this collectible trophy in stock, but we just sourced a new, super-sharp parcel that can put it in your cellar for the best price in the country.

"This Cabernet exemplifies the elegance of wines from Puente Alto in the Maipo Valley." - Wine Enthusiast

First planted in 1883 by its namesake, this estate has been the cornerstone of the Concho Y Toro brand for three decades, only producing a single wine from painstaking, visionary viticulture and vinification. The 2021 rendition is a landmark for the estate in many ways, and the wine reflects the momentous vintage. "A remarkable effort that channels the finesse of the vintage with rich, muscular edges" according to Wine Spectator, this is the quintessential expression of Chilean Cabernet and the fulfillment of Don Melchor's vision when he planted the property. Wine Advocate's Matthew Luczy called "the most classic and timeless iteration" in a recent vertical tasting spanning the entire history of the wine, and its near perfect score from James Suckling further underscores the stunning, world-class collectible appeal on offer. Ashy graphite, cassis, iron, blackberries and a hint of cigar box and chocolate. Lots of violets, too. Rich and intense with a full-bodied palate. Showing density and very fine but structured tannins. Long and intense finish with lots of flavors. 93% cabernet sauvignon, 4% cabernet franc and 3% merlot. One of the best over the last few years. Drinkable now, but will fledge and hold very well in the next 20 years.

99 points, Zekun Shuai, James Suckling (Dec 2023)

The 2021 Don Melchor is dark garnet red in the glass. The restrained nose offers pure fruity notes such as blackcurrant with hints of leaves and black tea, refined woody aromas, and gentle touches of plum and red bell pepper. In the mouth, it’s intense with mild juiciness and rounded tannins. The taut palate gradually grows more profound as it develops cedar flavors at the back of the throat before the long, rewarding finish. A wine that is more suggestive than explicit as it slowly envelops you in its different layers. The added freshness brings out the clarity of the fruity flavors.

A remarkable effort that channels the finesse of the vintage with rich, muscular edges, offering a base of graphite and cassis notes that gather around elegant layers of dried rosemary and white pepper.

"A brilliant wine, and a great value pick." - Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux

Since 2015, this dynamic estate has been outpacing its station in the quality and price heirarchies, delivering exceptional, cellar-worthy character and style at prices that allow Bordeaux collectors of all stripes to line their cellars.

The 2020 has shaped up to be the proven performer that we've all been looking forwrad to since en primeur. The structure and tension of the vintage are readily apparent, providing the perfect foundation for all the classic Margaux charm and grace to come through and evolve in superb fashion. Neal Martin describes it as "an excellent, quite substantial Margaux for long-term ageing," and that about sums it up for any Bordeaux collector on the hunt for razor-sharp cellar buys.

Clear depth to the cassis fruits, studded with fennel, anis, cut herbs, raspberry leaf and smoked earth, delivering complexity and pleasure. A brilliant wine, and a great value pick. 33% new oak. Harvest September 16 to October 1, technical director Marjolaine de Coninck.

94 points, Jane Anson (Mar 2023)

A forward, textured, already delicious wine, the 2020 Château Labégorce offers lots of red and black fruit as well as notes of cedar, smoke tobacco, and chocolate. Based on 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, aged in 40% new barrels, it has perfectly integrated oak, ripe, fine-grained tannins, and outstanding overall balance. Give bottles just a year or three and enjoy over the following 10-15 years or more.

93 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Mar 2023)

The 2020 Labegorce, matured in 40% new oak, has a fragrant, floral bouquet with wilted rose petals infusing the lively red cherry and crushed strawberry fruit. There is something "airy" about the aromatics here. The palate is slightly honeyed in texture, saturated tannins, a mixture of red and black fruit commingling with white pepper and iodine. Great persistence and salinity on the finish - an excellent, quite substantial Margaux for long-term ageing.

93 points, Neal Martin, Vinous (Feb 2023)

Deep garnet-purple in colored, the 2020 Labegorce tumbles out of the glass with fragrant notions of kirsch, red roses, and stewed plums, leading to suggestions of damp soil and truffles. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is juicy and plush with a sense of gravitas coming through on the long, layered finish.

93 points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Independent (Mar 2023)

Beautiful, perfumed blackcurrants on the nose, smells lovely. Juicy and supple, this has a nice roundness and a fleshy texture in the glass while still being quite focused and streamlined. This has a sleekness to the tannins, the fruit goes in one line from start to finish, so it’s not so expansive or particularly deep but does have a nice style to it. Good acidity, concentration and freshness. Focused, driven, clean with precision. Classic, easy to drink and to recommend.

2021 Fonterutoli Chianti Classico (750ml)
Sangiovese from Chianti, Tuscany, Italy
B-21 Top Recommendation

"Two thousand twenty-one is the single greatest young vintage I have ever tasted in Chianti Classico. Period. Full stop." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

There you have it. We couldn't have said it better ourselves. This epic Tuscan vintage keeps delivering the good in every denominacion across the region, but it truly seems like Chianti Classico hit the highest heights of all with "majestic wines endowed with striking aromatics, layered fruit and all the energy that is such a signature of the appellation." We've seen countless head-turning standouts come through already (with more to come soon), and today we're highlighted three of our favorites in the sub-$25 price tier.

Leading off, our direct-import star Le Cinciole has, to no one's surprise, delivered incredible bang for the buck in their "juicy, vivid, and crunchy" entry-level value star. Ricasoli's 2021 Brolio is the perfect candidate for your everyday rotation with its "immediately light and bright personality," and finally, Fonterutoli's 2021 delivers a double-93-point powerhouse expression, "darker, more powerful and concentrated than your standard entry-level Chianti Classico" according to Monica Larner.

No matter your style preference, Chianti Classico's extraordinary 2021 vintage has the perfect fit at prices that make it easy to stock up big.

93WS 93JS 92WA 91V

This powerful red is dense yet fleshy, evoking cherry, tobacco, iron, earth and wild herb notes. Balanced and fresh, with a lingering aftertaste of fruit, savory Mediterranean herbs and mineral notes. Best from 2026 through 2041. 5,000 cases made, 500 cases imported.

93 points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator (Jun 2024)

Notes of raspberries and cherries with red licorice, dried orange peel and spices. Medium- to full-bodied with meaty structure. Tannins are wide and velvety with a juicy, red-fruited mid-palate. Fresh and crunchy at the end. Drink or hold.

93 points, James Suckling (Aug 2023)

From a vintage that delivered great results across the region, the 2021 Chianti Classico Fonterutoli is a bit darker, more powerful and concentrated than your standard entry-level Chianti Classico. Cherry and dark plum cede to pretty mineral tones. That extra intensity is part of the house style and is a little gift for those who appreciate more meat on those Sangiovese bones. In fact, that grape is blended with a small 10% part of Malvasia Nera and Colorino in this ample 290,000-bottle release hitting the market now.

92 points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate (Sep 2023)

The 2021 Chianti Classico Fonterutoli is redolent of dark cherry, plum, leather, licorice, menthol, dried herbs, incense and sage. Pliant and expressive, with gorgeous depth, the 2021 is a fine edition of the straight Chianti Classico.

Sangiovese from Tuscany, Italy

We lead off with a pair of new 2022s that highlight the reference-point quality found at every level in the Felsina range. "The 2022 Chianti Classico Berardenga is superb. Rich and deep yet also quite translucent, the 2022 is an archetype of Castelnuovo Berardenga," writes Antonio Galloni, and it comes in at an easy case-buy price that makes it a perfect candidate for your next go-to house red. Likewise, the 2023 I Sistri Chardonnay shows the broad range of Felsina's repertoire, a "deep, intense and characterful" Chardonnay expression that impressed James Suckling to the tune of 93 points.

The 2021 Berardenga Riserva is quite possibly the star of the show, garnering an eye-opening press across the board led by a pair of 95 point reviews fromWine Spectator and Italian wine authority Kerin O'Keefe, who found it "elegant and showing wonderful intensity." James Suckling calls the 2021 "a well-composed, balanced and refined riserva," while Antonio Galloni declares, "A wine of nuance and layers, the 2021 has so much to offer."

With all the hype surrounding 2021, savvy Italian fans can find some truly superb buys in the 2020 vintage as well, not least of which is the 2020 Fontalloro Toscana. With same universal praise as the rest of Fèlsina's line, led by 96 points from Wine Advocate's Monica Larner, the 2020 is "a vibrant red ...On the elegant side, despite its youthful power, with excellent harmony" according to Wine Spectator.

Finally, for savvy dessert wine fans, the Vin Santo category is a hotbed of impressive offerings that showcase singular style and character, and there are few, if any, Vin Santos that surpass that of the inimitable Felsina for quintessential character and class. "The 2017 Vin Santo del Chianti Classico is rich, layered, and wonderfully complete," declares Galloni. We just sourced a parcel of the recently released, 96-point 2017 at a remarkable price, so fans can stock up, and anyone curious about this beloved style of wine can get a world-class introduction without breaking the bank.

This set from Fèlsina offers a multifaceted tour of classic Tuscan character. In short, everything that makes Fèlsina such a treasured estate is on full display in today's offer.

96WA 95WS 95JS 94V

Made with a special selection of Sangiovese, the 2020 Fontalloro is generous and rich, and the wine sports medium-dark color and concentration. The winemaking team has succeeded in bringing out an especially elegant side to this vintage. The wine offers pronounced notes of cherry and wild plum with delicate spice at the back. Like the other wines in this portfolio, there is a pretty mineral note that makes for a consistent through-line in all these new releases.

96 points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate (May 2023)

A vibrant red, with fleeting aromas of lavender and wild rosemary mingling with cherry, orange peel, earth, mineral and tobacco flavors. On the elegant side, despite its youthful power, with excellent harmony, refined tannins and a long, complex aftertaste. Sangiovese. Best from 2026 through 2045. 3,800 cases made, 1,200 cases imported.

95 points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator (Oct 2023)

Very refined and complex nose with a hint of pine cones, botanicals and dark mushrooms to the zesty oranges, mineral, fine musk and plums. Juicy, dry but textured on the palate with stacks of dusty tannins growing on the savory, full-bodied palate. Long and quite mineral in the finish. Better from 2025.

95 points, Zekun Shuai, James Suckling (Sep 2023)

The 2020 Fontalloro is a sensual, enveloping wine. Dark red-toned fruit, sweet spice, tobacco, cedar and mint are all beautifully delineated. Fontalloro is a pure Sangiovese from vineyards that straddle the Chianti Classico and Colli Senesi appellations. The duality is very much on display here.

"Fans of classically broad shouldered and flavorsome vintages of Shiraz Bin 28 will be very happy with the 2022. It is bold yet balanced, rich and ripe but also with a strong heart and cellaring potential." - Angus Hughson, Vinous

There's not much we can or need to say about Penfolds' latest iteration of their smash-hit, best-selling Shiraz. The 2022 Bin 28 picks up right where all the previous vintages left off with a sterling critical line that includes stout praise from all corners. This wine is always a quintessential expression of Aussie Shiraz, thanks to Penfolds' complete mastery of their vineyards and winemaking. As Halliday Wine Companion's 95-point review puts it, "Penfolds impresses with a multi-regional blend. It's something they do so well; a combination of vineyard resources and masterful blending with such quality and consistency across their 'Bin' range of wines." As always, everything is so impeccably balanced and composed that it's still a shock how good the Bin 28 is when you consider its sub-$25 price. All the components work in such harmony that it's easy to lose sight of what a value it is, to the point where it's not just delicious now, but it will also cruise for a long time in the cellar. When was the last time you spent $25 on a wine you'll still be enjoying ten or 15 years from now? Exactly. So make some room in the cellar and load up, because the 2022 Bin 28 is a hit for fans of Penfolds and any great Australian Shiraz.

Quelle surprise! Penfolds impresses with a multi-regional blend. It's something they do so well; a combination of vineyard resources and masterful blending with such quality and consistency across their 'Bin' range of wines. Deep set satsuma plum, blackberry and blueberry fruits with hints of baking spices, charcuterie, violets, fennel tops, dried herbs, nicely-judged American oak and a gentle earthen hue. There's a lovely, bright fruit presence here; long, flavourful and delicious now with the promise of excellent cellaring potential.

95 points, Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion (Jul 2024)

Fans of classically broad shouldered and flavorsome vintages of Shiraz Bin 28 will be very happy with the 2022. It is bold yet balanced, rich and ripe but also with a strong heart and cellaring potential. It radiates with blackberry, cherry compote, and new leather aromas with faint spicy tones. The structure shows its class, particularly with the tannin ripeness and weight which holds the wine's shape through to a lengthy finish. Enjoyable now, but will be impressive after a decade in the cellar.

93 points, Angus Hughson, Vinous (Aug 2024)

Offers an impressive mix of fruit flavors and oak influences, finding an expressive balance between framboise, cherry and pomegranate flavors that are ripe, fleshy and fresh. On the oak side, smooth vanilla, almond nougat and milk chocolate notes are showy, along with grace notes of cedar, Saigon cinnamon and clove. Drink now through 2033. 12,360 cases imported.

93 points, MaryAnn Worobiec, Wine Spectator (Dec 2024)

The aromas of crushed stones and blackberries are impressive. Dark fruit and dusty tannins are spread out on the medium-bodied palate. It delivers plenty of pretty fruit that goes long and focused. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

The 2022 Bin 28 Shiraz was aged for 12 months in seasoned American oak hogsheads. Deep garnet-purple in color, notes of boysenberries, black cherries and fresh raspberries shoot from the glass, followed by touches of anise and tar with a pinch of Sichuan pepper. Located a few miles north of coastal Bolgheri in the Cecina River Valley, the Caiarossa estate boasts a hilly terrain covered with the brilliant red or "rossa" gravelly soil for which it is named, enjoying a steady rise in quality since its purchase in 2004 by Dutch businessman Eric Albada Jelgersma, also owner of Château du Tertre and Château Giscours in Margaux. Divided into distinct parcels and located at around 600 meters of altitude, Caiarossa's 31 hectares of vines are spread across three sites on the wooded 70 hectare estate, planted with eight different red varietals including Bordeaux grapes Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, Rhone's Syrah, Grenache (Alicante), and Mourvedre, and Tuscany's native Sangiovese, all farmed biodynamically.

This set of acclaimed recent vintages shows why the estate is a true Tuscan insider's favorite, led by the stunning 96-point 2019, an artful, elegant Super Tuscan blend balancing fresh, layered dark fruit and refined, smooth tannins with powerful structure, showing "impressive depth and textural richness" according to Wine Advocate's Monica Larner. Antonio Galloni of Vinous calls the 2020 "the best wine I have tasted off this property in some time, perhaps ever" on his way to tagging it with an impressive 95 points. Finally, the epic 2021 Tuscany vintage is on full display with Caiarossa's flagship rendition. Larner remarks, "These results are balanced and bright in this gorgeous vintage, and I especially like the wine's freshness that seems to shine from its core" in her 95-point review, one among a bevy of glowing press across the board from every prominent voice in the critical sphere.

This is an intense, full-bodied yet very well-balanced and polished red with velvety, firm and caressing tannins. Ripe black plums, blueberries, chocolate, mocha, sweet spice and dried lavender. Some oyster shells, too. Layered and full of character. Creamy at the end from the polished tannins. 26% syrah, 24% cabernet franc, 23% merlot, 14% cabernet sauvignon, 7% petit verdot, 4% sangiovese and 2% grenache. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink from 2026.

The Caiarossa 2019 Caiarossa is a complex blend featuring Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Sangiovese, Syrah and Alicante from vineyard sites across this beautiful property in the high hills off the Tuscan coast. This organic and biodynamic wine is full and generous to the palate, yet it never feels heavy or too extracted. The wine is balanced and fresh with thick layers of dark fruit, crushed stone, tobacco and exotic spice.
