"This is an extraordinary vintage that will go down in record books as one of the all-time greats." - Jeb Dunnuck

When Bordeaux's 2022 vintage premiered three years ago, there was some uncertainty as to how the wines would play out from such a hot, dry growing season, one which surely promised wines of massive power, ripeness, and weight. Would it be too much of a good thing?

As it appeared then, and as it has turned out now that the wines are releasing to market, it's an extraordinary campaign among the best of the century. As Dunnuck observes, "Now that the wines are in bottles, it’s clear they have fully lived up to the early hype—and not just at the high end. The 2022s are deep, layered, and concentrated while staying beautifully balanced, light on their feet, and elegant."

Today's selection presents an incredible treasure trove that showcases the vintage's greatest features at every price in the spectrum, leaving no doubt as to how good 2022 Bordeaux really is.

Ripe cherry aromatics, firm tannins that are holding everything in place, but generous enough to get things revved up and keep focus on the fruit. This is exactly what you look for in a smaller chateaux in a vintage like 2022 - it's easy to drink with plenty of personality. 20% barrels for ageing, the rest in vat. Frost at the beginning of April, reduced the quantity and meant they focused a little more on Merlot this year, but there is still black pepper and spiced violet notes from the old Malbec. Jean-Marc Domme winemaker since March 2018, Pierre Lurton owner. A value buy.

93 points, Jane Anson (Mar 2025)

The 2022 Marjosse is a bright, nervy red. Floral notes, orange peel, mint and white pepper lend notable energy throughout. Readers will find an atypically vibrant wine for the year. More than anything else, the 2022 represents a pretty significant shift for Marjosse toward a style that focuses on greater freshness than in the past.

91 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Jan 2025)

This is pretty and vibrant, showing subtle cream to the red berries, currants and citrus on the nose. Quite firm and juicy on the palate with lightly chewy tannins and a fine, medium-long finish. Merlot, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc. Drink from 2025.

2025 La Cana Albarińo (750ml)
Albarino from Rias Baixas, Spain
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

If you've been a fan of Spanish wine over the past ten years or so, you've probably been waiting for Albarińo to get the attention it deserves on the world stage, and while it still takes a back seat to Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and the like, the best examples are still shining brightly and only getting better with each passing vintage.

La Cańa has long been a benchmark producer of this one-of-a-kind varietal, working with top-notch sites in the Salnčs sub-zone of Rías Baixas, widely considered ground zero for the most quintessential expressions. Year after year, their entry-level bottling far outperforms its price point in the critical press, with all the customary bright citrus and tropical fruit, vibrant acidity, and textured charm that Albarińo aficionados have come to know and love. While the 2024 has yet to be reviewed professionally, we recently got a chance to try it with importer Jorge Ordońez, and we can confidently say this rendition picks up right where previous vintages have left off, with more glowing praise no doubt in store in the near future. Meanwhile, you have a great opportunity to stock up on a fan-favorite crowd pleaser that seems tailor-made for summer soirées and warm days by the pool, so don't hesitate to lock in at our market-best price.

2022 Bodegas Muga Anden (750ml)
From Rioja, Spain
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

As a bastion of collectible Rioja, Bodegas Muga produces many of the region's most acclaimed and sought-after collectibles, but their extensive history of reference-point quality extends throughout their line-up, all the way into their entry-level, everyday value standouts.

The 2022 Muga Andén de la Estanción, a blend of Tempranillo and Garnacha, is a classic bang-for-the-buck Spanish red. "Serious despite being approachable," as Wine Advocate's Luis Gutiérrez describes it, the 2022 Andén is a hallmark representaiton of what Rioja does best at the value end of the spectrum. With the vibrant, fresh red fruit character of Tempranillo, touches of spice from the Garnacha, and a pliant, tensile structural base, it's tailor-made for versatility and pleasure, a food-friendly performer and crowd-pleaser par excellence that's easy on the palate and the wallet.

92JD 91WA 90JS

Cask-aged for 14 months, the 2022 El Anden De La Estacion is a youthful, approachable blend of 65% Tempranillo and 35% Garnacha, the first one made in 2016. Fermented using indigenous yeast, it’s left on the lees to soften the texture and accentuate the red and black cherry and berry fruit. It’s quite delightful and impressively well-made for the price point, full-bodied but balanced. Drink now.

92 points, Virginie Boone, Jeb Dunnuck (Jul 2025)

The red 2022 El Andén de la Estación comes from their earliest harvest ever. They define it as a modern blend of Tempranillo with 30% Garnacha fermented in stainless steel and concrete and matured in French and Central European oak barrels for 14 months. It has good ripeness and 14.5% alcohol, notes of cassis, licorice and black berry fruit, with a touch of smoke, toast and spice that is quite integrated. It's juicy and young and has a medium to full-bodied palate with abundant, slightly dusty tannins that give it an earthy touch. It's serious despite being approachable, a wine for the by-the-glass and gastronomy markets. It keeps the poise despite the warm and dry conditions from the year. This is produced in a separate winery they bought in Labastida, the first year it was produced there. This is not a small-production cuvée: 298,870 bottles were filled in May 2024.

91 points, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate (Feb 2025)

Lots of dark cherries, spices, ink and a touch of chocolate on the nose. Juicy and slightly chewy on the palate, with a medium body and a medium-long finish. Tempranillo and garnacha. Drink now.

"Acknowledging that 2019 is already a heralded vintage, the salient question is whether it represents the summit of the 2018, 2019 and 2020 triumvirate. 'Yes' is the answer. I have always felt that is the case." - Neal Martin, Vinous

Of course, you may or may not agree with Martin in terms of 2019 place in the "trifecta," but it's undeniable that is a truly spectacular Bordeaux vintage that has more than lived up to its day-one hype since the wine's have hit the market, hit collector's cellars, and found their way into the glasses of impatient enthusiasts. Best of all, pricing has always been highly favorable compared to 2018 and 2020 (to say nothing of 2022), so the 2019s have also been some of the sharpest collectible buys on the market from the get-go and remain so today.

We've just landed a must-see treasure trove from this heralded campaign at ... you guessed it ... razor-sharp pricing cross the board, with superb performers in every classification and price tier.

93D 92JD 92WE 91V 91JS 91WI

Deep purple colour, medium to full intensity, and a feeling of confident tannic hold from the off. Such an impressive run of vintages at this Haut-Médoc property that has just been named Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel. The spice that Petit Verdot adds is clear, alongside well-brushed tannins, striking aromatics of brambly fruits. Not as luxuriously textured as in 2018 but in its place is a more serious outlook, and this is extremely sleek, elegant and well made.

93 points, Decanter (Jan 2022)

Rock star stuff readers should snatch up, the deep ruby/purple-hued 2019 Château Belle-Vue gives up a gorgeous bouquet of ripe currants, black cherries, tobacco, and cedar pencil. This carries to a medium to full-bodied, round, supple, elegant Haut-Médoc with velvety tannins, remarkable balance, and a great finish. It's a gorgeous bottle of wine that will keep for over a decade.

92 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Apr 2022)

This fresher style of wine offers layers of black-currant acidity. They go with the ageworthy tannins to promise richness as the wine matures. Drink from 2025.

92 points, Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast (Jul 2022)

The 2019 Belle-Vue has come together nicely. Powerful and earthy in the glass, the 2019 Belle-Vue is loaded with character. Tobacco, dried flowers, mint and dried flowers lend quite a bit of aromatic complexity. This super-expressive Haut-Médoc has quite a bit to offer.

91 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Feb 2022)

Aromas of mulberries, dark cherries, wet earth, soya and smoke. Medium-to full-bodied with firm tannins. Structured, with a fleshy texture and a fruity finish. 54% merlot, 26% cabernet sauvignon, 18% petit verdot. 1% cabernet franc and 1% carmenere. Drink from 2023.

91 points, James Suckling (Sep 2022)

The 2019 Belle-Vue is made of 54% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Carmenere. Deep garnet-purple in color, it has quite an earthy / savory nose of tar, truffles, and damp soil over a core of baked plums and boysenberries with a touch of dried herbs. Medium-bodied, soft, and well-crafted, it has bags of savory flavors and a fragrant, understated finish. This is a wine for those who prefer savory to fruity!

The 2019 Château Puygueraud is also terrific, with ripe darker cherry, plum, leafy tobacco and hints of chocolate on the nose. This medium-bodied, rounded, supple, elegant beauty has soft tannins, wonderful balance, and a great finish. Drink it over the coming decade.

92 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Apr 2022)

Violets and blackberries with hints of spices on the nose. Full body, with soft and velvety tannins and a juicy finish. Drink now or hold. Always excellent value.

92 points, James Suckling (Mar 2012)

A Nicolas Thienpont wine that has a successful mix of Sauvignon Gris and Sauvignon Blanc. Touches of gooseberry, elderflower and nectarine, great tension through the palate, fresh acidites give a mouthwatering finish and this has precision and juice. Easy to recommend and great value.

92 points, Jane Anson (Jan 2022)

Fragranced milk chocolate and black cherries on the nose - a gorgeous smell. Rush of fresh fruity flavours on the palate - blueberries, raspberries and blackcurrants alongside hints of minty, stony bitterness that edge the fruit giving texture and tang. Round with silky tannins. Easy to drink and easy to recommend.

92 points, Georgina Hindle, Decanter (Jan 2022)

The 2019 Puygueraud exhibits aromas of black cherries, violet and iris, thyme, menthol and touches of spices. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, juicy and vibrant, with delicate aromas of plum and cassis. This vintage can be approached with pleasure, even if it has three to five years of evolution ahead of it.

91 points, Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate (Apr 2023)

This full Merlot from the far east of the Bordeaux vineyard, is suffused with ripe, smoothly textured dark fruits. It has a touch of spice at the end from the Cabernet Franc. Structured tannins come at the end.

90 points, Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast (Oct 2022)

Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 Puygueraud shows signs of preserved plums and wild blueberries with touches of forest floor and wild sage. Medium to full-bodied, it has taut, muscular fruit and a firm, grainy texture, finishing savory.

2021 La Horra Corimbo (500ml)
Tempranillo from Ribera del Duero, Castilla y Leon, Spain

"A structured, flavorful Ribera from a warm, powerful yet balanced vintage." - Joaquin Hidalgo, Vinous

Bodegas Roda's skyrocketing trajectory to Rioja cult status is now well-known, and while the Roda wines command a hefty price tag, you can still find all that hallmark, cult-caliber excellence in their Ribera project, Bodegas La Horra.

The estate's Corimbo red, bottled in 500ml format, is made of 100% Tinta del Pais, from their younger parcels between 25 and 30 years of age. These dry-farmed bush vines produce uncommon concentration and depth, and the 2021 vintage did the rest. The style at La Horra is founded on three basic tenets: modest wood use, balanced ripeness, and gentle extractions. In other words, the estate eschews the prevailing Ribera trends of power, weight, and high-octane ripeness.

Even though it's from a warm vintage, the 2021 Corimbo displays "pure fruit expression ... light chalky grip and a lightly tannic finish, filling the mouth with flavor." In the tradition of the best Spanish reds in this price tier, the 2021 Corimbo is an easy case-buy contender that would cost twice as much if it were from France or California, given the inherent quality and pedigree.

94JS 93WA 92V

Aroms of plush dark chocolate, fresh blackberries and touches of graphite, roasted red peppers, fine sweet spices and minerals. Juicy and nicely chewy, with a medium to full body and a long finish. Tightly wound tannins, but there is no hint of over-extraction. 100% tempranillo. Drink or hold.

94 points, Zekun Shuai, James Suckling (Jul 2025)

The 2021 Corimbo was produced with Tinto Fino from vines between 25 and 30 years of age, from small plots in La Horra, Roa and other villages around them, and it fermented in French oak vat and matured for 14 months in oak barrels, 80% French and 20% American. It comes in at 14.5% alcohol, with a pH of 3.72 and 4.9 grams of acidity. It's higher pitched than the 2022 that I tasted next to it: it has an herbal hint that provides freshness, the tannins have a different quality here, and the ripeness is better here. 50,902 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2023.

93 points, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate (Jun 2025)

The 2021 Corimbo is made from Tinta del País from Ribera del Duero and was aged for 14 months, including up to 20% in American oak. Sunny at heart, it delivers black cherry, herbs and blackberry aromas with pure fruit expression. The palate is intense and juicy, with light chalky grip and a lightly tannic finish, filling the mouth with flavor. A structured, flavorful Ribera from a warm, powerful yet balanced vintage.

"...there's a compact feel to this firm red but also a sense of balance and integration." - Alison Napjus, Wine Spectator

As dominant as Rioja is in the Spanish collectible space, its penchant for delivering outstanding everyday values is also unmatched. The latest entry proving the point is Ramirez de la Piscina's charming 92-point 2020 Selección Reserva, a rock-solid performer for the cellar or the table at an easy case-buy price. The estate's style is purely reflective of the terroir in Ábalos and San Vicente de la Sonsierra, yielding wines of chalky finesse, refined tannins, and old-school complexity. For the Reserva, however, they take a decidedly New World approach in the oak regimen and fruit profile. James Suckling sums it up as "A dense and full-bodied Rioja ... Chewy and firm, with wood-soaked tannins, yet it doesn't overpower the rich dark berry and plum fruit." If you're a fan of Rioja, this is a razor-sharp buy to add to the cellar for future enjoyment, but it can also occupy a starring role in your regular rotation thanks to our must-see, sub-$20 price.

92WS 91V

Up front there's a compact feel to this firm red but also a sense of balance and integration. Opens in the glass, revealing a fragrant overtone of dried flowers, eucalyptus, star anise and mocha, with flavors of plumped cherry and baked plum that linger on the finish. Best from 2026 through 2035. 1,000 cases made, 300 cases imported.

92 points, Alison Napjus, Wine Spectator (Mar 2025)

The 2020 Reserva Selección is Tempranillo sourced from San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Ábalos, Rioja Alta. Aged for 16 months in new oak barrels (50/50 American and French), this purple wine presents caramel and lactic notes, along with enveloping vanilla, cedar and coconut tones atop a black-fruited core. Dry, creamy and juicy on the palate, the fine-grained, fairly chalky mouthfeel lingers with an oaky flavor. This is a New World expression of Rioja red.

2021 Tolaini Al Passo (750ml)
Sangiovese from Tuscany, Italy
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

The latest vintages of perennial best-selling value Super Tuscans are now in stock and ready to impress anyone seeking outstanding bang for the buck. The 94-point 2021 Tolaini Al Passo and the 95-point 2021 Tolaini Valdisanti are emblematic of the unabashedly modern-style that makes them some of the sharpest case-buy contenders in Italian wine, year in and year out.

After 40 years of running a successful business in Canada, entrepreneur Pier Luigi Tolaini returned to his native Tuscany with the goal of producing top-quality wines from Sangiovese, purchasing 25 hectares in the hills of the Castelnuovo Berardenga region of Chianti in 1998. Undertaking massive replanting of the vines and rebalancing of the soils, Pier Luigi hired famed enologist Michel Rolland and Tuscan agronomist Andrea Paoletti to manage the vineyards and construct a state-of-the-art winery, releasing the first Al Passo in 2007 and expanding the estate to over 100 hectares over the next decade. The estate is now firing on all cylinders as the vineyards come to maturity, and Pier Luigi's vision is in full form. The 2021 Al Passo, based on Sangiovese, is "a very beautiful and expressive wine" per Galloni, while in the 50/50 blend Valdisanti, "Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc speak with a decidedly Tuscan accent in this vibrant, mid-weight offering."

Like previous vintages, the 2021s offer immediate enjoyment but certainly display the stuffing to cruise in the cellar for a decade, making a mixed case purchase (or a case of each!) an easy choice at our market-best pricing.

94V

The 2021 Al Passo is a very beautiful and expressive wine. Dried cherry, tobacco, cedar, licorice and incense lend notable aromatic nuance. This Sangiovese/Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon blend has a ton to offer. Bright acids pull it all together in style.

"This is a superb wine in any vintage." - Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate

You many not know the name Kevin Judd, but you certainly know his contribution to the wine world. As the long-time winemaker at Cloudy Bay, he's done more than anyone to put New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc on the world wine map. Having long since moved on from that New Zealand icon, he's spent the past two decades or so making his absolutely brilliant Greywacke wines, which have become all-time Kiwi best-sellers in their own right.

Year in, year out, the flagship Marlborough Sauv Blanc is a tremendous effort that puts the very best qualities of the category on display, and the newly arrived 2025 rendition does not disappoint, led by a resounding 94-point score from Wine Advocate. James Suckling also chimes in, calling it "A flavorful, focused and textural sauvignon blanc ... Lively and succulent, with a precise palate and a long finish." Judd's no-nonsense approach and unwavering commitment to his craft make this not only an excellent value but also a benchmark expression capable of performing at the highest level for many years to come. In other words, don't think twice and just stack it by the case. You'll be glad you did!

The 2025 Sauvignon Blanc leads with a soft nose of musk sticks and brine, green apple skins, wet linen and green olive tapenade. In the mouth, the wine is tightly coiled and yet textured by pithy phenolics. The length of the flavor is long, as we have come to expect from Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc. This is a superb wine in any vintage. Greywacke is a member of the Appellation Marlborough Wine (AMW). 13% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

A flavorful, focused and textural sauvignon blanc with papayas, limes and stones on the nose. Medium-bodied with bright acidity. Lively and succulent, with a precise palate and a long finish. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

"Sweetly spiced and creamy yet with a vibrant core..." - James Suckling

Few producers in California display such consistent quality up and down their range as Paso Robles' Daou Vineyards. Their top-end collectibles routinely pull in massive scores, but at the same time, their entry-level offerings are some of the best in the game, as we see in today's sub-$20, 94-point gem of a Chardonnay. Sourced exclusively from old-vine parcels in Edna Valley, the 2023 Reserve is a pure example of the best features of California Chardonnay, marrying ripeness with balance, which results in a profile with serious appeal to a wide audience. Sure, there are plenty of sub-$20 Chardonnay options out there, but only a select few can match the pedigree and style of this must-try beauty from a true Paso Robles icon.

Turning to the estate's wheelhouse, don't miss the trio of top-flight, single-vineyard Zinfandels, highlighted by the WS96 Highwire Vineyard from the acclaimed 2023 vintage. Whether you're looking for an easy everyday go-to or a top-tier reference-point expression for the cellar, this range from Hartford has it in spades.

92V

The 2024 Chardonnay (Russian River Valley) really overdelivers. It’s an ideal expression of the Russian River Valley, with all the bright, sunny orchard fruit and spritzy citrus lift you could hope for, but also an extra measure of freshness and juiciness that leaves the mouth watering. Notably restrained, the 2024 shows excellent finesse, especially for an appellation-level bottling.

"Bright, punchy and full of character, the 2023 delivers superb quality and striking purity of fruit," notes Antonio Galloni. 2023 Bedrock Zinfandel Old Vine (750ml)
Zinfandel from California
B-21 Top Recommendation

"The 2023 is such a classy offering ...What an absolute delight." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Established in 2007 by the son of Ravenswood founding winemaker Joel Peterson, Bedrock Wine Company's Morgan Twain-Peterson and long-time business partner Chris Cottrell craft their wines from a who's-who list of the region's most historic vineyards, sourcing the old vine Zinfandel from century-old sites throughout Sonoma and Contra Costa counties, including Peterson's own Bedrock Vineyard. Described by Antonio Galloni as "among the most pedigreed vineyard sites anywhere in the world," Bedrock was the first California vineyard to be replanted in 1888 following the devastation of phylloxera, boasting a Zinfandel-dominated field mix planted in volcanic rocks and cobbly loam soil and farmed organically by the Petersons without irrigation. Blending 85% Zinfandel with 7% Carignan, 4% Cinsault and small amounts of other varieties averaging 80 years of age and fermenting with native yeasts, Morgan aged the lush 2023 Bedrock Zinfandel Old Vine in a combination of French oak and Austrian oak puncheons and foudres with about 10% new, yielding a fresh and delicately spiced Zinfandel with layered fine tannins that's ready to enjoy and will continue to mature gracefully over the next few years.

Crafted by "one of the most talented winemakers of his generation" according to Galloni, the impressive, 93-point 2023 Bedrock Zinfandel Old Vine is blended from many of the iconic sites that go into Bedrock's single-vineyard Zins at a fraction of their price, delivering a transparent expression of rich, old-vine Zinfandel for an unbeatable value.

93JD 92WS 92JS 91V

The 2023 Zinfandel Old Vine was raised in 600-gallon foudre with a small proportion (8%) in new oak, and it’s roughly 90% Zinfandel along with an eclectic field mix. The nose opens to bright peppery spice, fresh cut flowers, and black raspberries, with deeper notes of fresh sanguine earth coming through. The palate is full-bodied yet restrained, with a detailed structure and length with a mountainous feel. It’s a great lens into the range they produce here at Bedrock and a tremendous value. Drink 2025-2032.

93 points, Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck (Jul 2025)

Sleek and juicy, with fan-friendly cherry, raspberry, toasty spice and briar accents that glide on the zesty finish. Drink now through 2033. 8,000 cases made.

92 points, Tim Fish, Wine Spectator (Aug 2025)

An expressive, fruity and well-balanced wine that shows the rich berry aromas of the grape variety while keeping a slightly tangy, lightly tannic texture that’s refreshing. Raspberries, red cherries, red plums and hints of sage and orange peel. Made from vines with an average age of 80 years. Drink now.

92 points, Jim Gordon, James Suckling (Mar 2025)

The 2023 Zinfandel Old Vine is a very pretty wine. Floral, spice-inflected and lifted, the 2023 is such a classy offering. In this vintage, the Old Vine Zinfandel is incredibly varietal. Even so, it is sensual, silky and wonderfully inviting. The blend is built on a core of fruit from Sodini, Bedrock, Teldeschi and Evangelho, with smaller bits from several other properties in the portfolio. Most of the wine is aged in neutral vessels, with a well-judged touch of spice from some new oak that adds flair. What an absolute delight.

The 2019 La Rose Perričre is gorgeous, just as it was in barrel. Super-ripe black cherry, plum, spice, tobacco and chocolate are all kicked up in this racy, flamboyant Lussac from Jean-Luc Sylvain. The 2019 is beautifully done.

93 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Feb 2022)

Bright dark cherries, sandalwood, candied violets, plums, and spicy oak all emerge from the 2019 Château La Rose Perričre, a medium to full-bodied, rich, structured 2019 that needs bottle age. 2020 La Rioja Alta Reserva Vina Alberdi (750ml)
Tempranillo from Rioja, Spain

"It is approachable, elegant and ticks all the boxes for this style of wine at an affordable price." - Decanter

La Rioja Alta's Vina Alberdi needs little to no introduction here at B-21. It's been a perennial best-seller for years on end and one of the most consistent values in Spanish wine during that entire span of time. The 93-point 2020 vintage continues the sterling track record of this benchmark overachiever and this reference-point estate.

Forty-year-old vines, expert and precise aging in American oak (a La Rioja Alta specialty), and extended bottle aging before release all contribute to a "lively, harmonious, focused red" that bears the classic Rioja profile while remaining eminently approachable today. Even better the price tag offers the kind of versatility that makes it easy to stack some away in the cellar for a few years or pop the cork tonight – or both.

93JS 92WA 92D 91WS

A classical, typical Rioja Alta red with elegant notes of vanilla, coconut, smoked spices and strawberries. Refined and suave, with fine tannins and a long, creamy finish. Juicy and elegant. Really approachable now, but give it two more years to get more mushroom complexity.

93 points, Zekun Shuai, James Suckling (Aug 2024)

The younger wine here is the 2020 Vińa Alberdi, a versatile version of the Haro reds. It was produced with Tempranillo fermented in stainless steel and matured in American oak barrels for two years (it's sold as Reserva in international markets and Crianza in Spain). It has 14% alcohol with a pH of 3.6 and five grams of acidity. It has a classical nose of ripe fruit, American oak and spices, the subtle notes of forest floor, still young. The palate is velvety and very balanced with polished tannins. Approachable but should also age. 650,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2023.

92 points, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate (Feb 2024)

Classic reserva aromas of red berry fruit and generous, chocolatey oak lead to a soft and rounded palate with very well-managed tannins. It is approachable, elegant and ticks all the boxes for this style of wine at an affordable price.

92 points, Beth Willard, Decanter (Mar 2025)

Hints of tobacco, smoke and vanilla are a fragrant thread winding through the baked cherry and raspberry fruit, cocoa powder and red licorice notes on display in this lively, harmonious, focused red. 2022 Elena Fucci SCEG Aglianico del Vulture (750ml)
Aglianico from Aglianico del Vulture, Basilicata, Italy
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

"Elena Fucci is a force." - Eric Guido, Vinous

It's been a slow, grinding but steady ascent for Italy's premier southern denominacions, and Aglianico del Vulture is at the head of the pack. Several producers are forging the region's modern path, but arguably none are as dynamic as Elena Fucci. Having taken over her family's estate in 2000 at a very young age, she has risen as the most prolific voice and advocates of Vulture, as well as one of its most talented winemakers. Her style has evolved over the years, blending forward-looking vision and rooted tradition. In short, it straddles a fine line between Old World and New World.

Her latest set of releases further confirm her as a must-know for any true Italian insider. Centered around the 7.5-hectare family vineyard of Titolo, these Aglianico wines are full of distinctive personality, reflecting in part her objectively great winemaking and in part the amazing volcanic terroir of the DOCG. The 2022 SCEG is a classic introduction to the varietal, made in an accessible style, which for Aglianico still means a few years in the cellar to show all its cards. Even today though, it's "savory yet cool-toned, with depths of dark red fruits and tactile minerality" that will offer loads of enjoyment.

The Titolo bottlings are the crown jewels, conveying the family estate and the varietal in its purest form. The 2021 flagship Titolo is "impossible to ignore," boasting a seamless, balanced, measured profile that earned 94 points from both Eric Guido and Wine Advocate's Monica Larner, who writes, "the 2021 Aglianico del Vulture Titolo is classic Elena Fucci and is the wine you should buy if you love her signature style." Elena's stylistic evolution is also fully evident in the 2021 Titolo by Amphora, which as one might induce, is done entirely in clay amphorae, which means it is pure varietal expression to the max. This double 94-point, "precious and limited release" is a fascinating counterpoint to the flagship Titolo, with "wonderfully soft contours and vivid fruit" that showcase the full potential of this fantastic estate.

Best of all, these wines are all tailor-made for the cellar, with potential lifespans that rival the finest red wines of Tuscany and Piedmont, for a fraction of their prices. If you're on the hunt for your next great discovery from the Boot, Elena Fucci should be top of your list.

92V 90WS 90JS

The 2022 Aglianico del Vulture SCEG blossoms in the glass with a dark blend of dried violets, crushed stones and citrus-tinged blackberries. This flows across the palate, savory yet cool-toned, with depths of dark red fruits and tactile minerality that settles in toward the close. It finishes grippy and long yet still fresh, leaving behind hints of tangerine and an air of tobacco and ash.

92 points, Eric Guido, Vinous (May 2024)

There's a sense of restraint to this fresh red, with notes of black raspberry, plum skin, singed orange peel and dried herbs tightly meshed with dense, fine tannins. Licorice, mineral and spice hints show on the finish, but this needs some time in the cellar to reveal its secrets. Best after 2027. 700 cases made, 500 cases imported.

90 points, Alison Napjus, Wine Spectator (Oct 2024)

Dried black fruit with some herbs and spices. Ripe but also juicy and fresh, with simple flavors and a tasty, lightly peppery finish. Slightly simple but quite well balanced. From organically grown grapes. Drink now.

93JD 93JA 93D 92WA

The 2022 Vieux Château Saint Andre is made by Jeff Berrouet from 12.5 hectares of vines in the Montagne region on the Right Bank. Mostly Merlot, yet with 10% Cabernet Franc, raised mostly in used barrels (10% new), it has a terrific nose of ripe black cherries, tobacco leaf, damp earth, and chocolate that would give a top Saint-Emilion a run for its money. This carries to a medium to full-bodied, round, supple 2022 with ripe tannins, layered mouthfeel, and outstanding length.

93 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Feb 2025)

This is always a château to look out for in quality vintages, because you get the skill of the Berrouet family at great value. Helped by the limestone soils also, this is expectedly impressive, softly spoken damson and black cherry fruit, pulses of pomegranate and passion fruit, bitter chocolate and liqourice. A great wine, a buy.

93 points, Jane Anson (May 2023)

Gorgeous scents, softly floral, slightly spiced and lots of bright red and black bramble fruit. Juicy, alive, energetic and so clean. High acidity is at the fore, really quite lean and high toned, not much in the way of density of tannins, they're more fine and delicate but still delivering a concentrated, ripe and fruit-forward wine with tension and brightness. Definitely has a charm, with some spiced dark chocolate touches lingering on the finish.

Notes of licorice, pencil lead, smoke and violet mingled with iris preface the 2022 Vieux Château Saint André, a medium to full-bodied, dense and concentrated wine with a fleshy core of fruit, structured tannins and a long, penetrating finish. Brilliant wine maintaining clear grip from start to finish, powerful black fruits with a silky smooth texture. Clear austerity with fresh acidities, this is mouthwatering on the finish and totally moreish.

92 points, Jane Anson, Decanter (May 2020)

Made from 88% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc, the 2019 d'Aiguilhe is medium to deep garnet-purple colored. It needs a little swirling to reveal notes of crushed black cherries, black raspberries, and violets, plus wafts of tobacco and wild sage. The medium to full-bodied palate has a solid structure of firm, grainy tannins and lively acidity, finishing with a skip in its step.

91 points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Independent (May 2023)

Restrained but with good inner juiciness to its plum and cassis notes, while red licorice and red tea hints chime through. Shows a subtle chalky minerality that lengthens the finish. Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2026. 26,540 cases made, 2,200 cases imported.

2021 Marques de Murrieta Reserva (750ml)
Tempranillo from Rioja, Spain
B-21 Top Recommendation

"It's very Rioja, with clout, elegance and freshness and the elegant tannins that are the signature of 2021 ... Bravo!" - Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate

Declared "one of Rioja's most iconic labels" by Decanter's Clive Pursehouse, Marques de Murrieta is a bastion of classically styled Rioja. These top-scoring flagship Reserva, the signature Gran Reserva, and the highly coveted Castillo Ygay are all emblematic of the estate's reputation for benchmark Rioja expressions with top-tier cellar potential.

A standard bearer for value every vintage, the double 96-point 2021 Rioja Reserva seems to have hit a new benchmark for this flagship cuvée in "one one of the finest vintages in recent times," as Luis Gutiérrez describes the 2021 campaign in Rioja. "Even more outstanding than the 2020" (which garnered big press in its own right), this rendition is the epitome of an overachiever. For under $30, you can enjoy a world-class Rioja tonight or you can stack the cellar. "Elegant yet perfectly structured ... It offers immediate appeal but will age gracefully for many years to come," declares Decanter. Simply put, wine lovers of all stripes will be hard pressed to find better bang for their buck.

Even more outstanding than the 2020, the incredibly priced 2021 Reserva is young in boisterous blue fruit, with a generous, full-bodied palate of richness and upfront power. The tannins add length and breadth to the wine, which is tasting great and could go another 10-15 years.

96 points, Virginie Boone, Jeb Dunnuck (Jan 2026)

Elegant yet perfectly structured, this is the most floral of the Murrieta Reservas I’ve tasted in recent years. With 8% Graciano and 4% Mazuelo, the nose is perfumed with pretty rose petal and delicate red berry fruit, as well as wild herbal aromas. Blueberry fruit typical of Tempranillo directs the palate, rounded out with a little fleshy Garnacha, and framed by subtle American oak. It offers immediate appeal but will age gracefully for many years to come.

96 points, Beth Willard, Decanter (Feb 2025)

Their flagship wine comes from one of the finest vintages in recent times. The 2021 Marqués de Murrieta was previously called the Reserva and still qualifies as such, but it's not included in the name now. It was produced with 86% Tempranillo, 8% Graciano, 4% Mazuelo and 2% Garnacha Tinta from their 300 hectares of vines in their Ygay estate on limestone and clay soils with alluvial influence. The grapes were picked between the 27th of September and the 15th of October, and each plot and variety was vinified separately in stainless steel, matured in American oak barrels for 26 months, then blended and kept in concrete for a few months until bottling, which was a longer élevage this year. It's very spicy, peppery, with a combination of berry fruit and some incipient tertiary aromas, hints of forest floor and truffle. It's very Rioja, with clout, elegance and freshness and the elegant tannins that are the signature of 2021. It comes in at 14.3% alcohol with a pH of 3.6, denoting ripeness and balance. It's delicious, fresh and available. Bravo! This will be released in May 2025. 900,000 bottles produced. It was bottled from May to July 2024.

95 points, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate (Feb 2025)

The 2021 Marqués de Murrieta blends 86% Tempranillo, 4% Mazuelo, 8% Graciano and 2% Garnacha. This aged for 26 months in barrels. The complex nose offers cherry, traces of camphor and cassis, dried flowers and blood orange. In the mouth, it's juicy, supple and layered, with flexible tannins and a rich, sustained finish. The 2021 is a refined, expressive red enhanced by an elegant vintage.

94 points, Joaquín Hidalgo, Vinous (May 2025)

This shows vibrant cherries, spiced plums, blue fruit and superb balance with well-hidden oak. Firm and really harmonious, it has a bit more prominence of fruit and fine-grained tannins than the 2020. Drink from 2026.

2023 Coudoulet de Beaucastel (750ml)
Grenache from Côtes du Rhône, Rhône, France
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

"... yet another outstanding red Beaucastel with the potential to match or even outperform the delicious 2022." - Nicolas Greinacher, Vinous

One of the most anticipated Rhône releases in any vintage is Beaucastel's reference-point Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and the 97-point 2023 delivers everything we expect from this iconic estate. The warm, dry growing season provided optimal conditions for all the estate's varietals to excel and the finished wine is classic Beaucastel in all respects. Jeb Dunnuck notes, "It has the purity, medium to full-bodied richness, and ripe, yet still fresh and lively style of the vintage and brings plenty of mid-palate depth, sweet tannins, and a great finish." The year saw a higher-than-usual Mourvedre content in the blend, so you can count on this rendition to cruise in the cellar, but the freshness and vibrancy of the Grenache components (with help of the highly aromatic Terret Nori, Vaccarese, and Muscardin) make it a true charmer right out of the gate. James Suckling's Rhône critic Stuart Pigott declares it "full-bodied but with a lightness of touch. Then the power and stony intensity pour over you in a giant wave. The freshness is extraordinary for this hot and dry vintage." In other words, one of France's leading wine estates hit another home run, and collectors can add this superb rendition to their cellars for a razor-sharp price.

While you wait for the Châteauneuf to come around, you can also stock up on the 2023 Coudoulet de Beaucastel. Reflecting its well-earned reputation as "the Baby Beaucastel," the 2023 Coudoulet de Beaucastel is a solidly built, age-worthy Côtes-du-Rhône that takes the category a step up in terms of quality, character, and pedigree – the Coudoulet vines lie just on the "wrong side" of the road from Beaucastel's official Châteauneuf parcels, so the moniker isn't just a trope. Soils, micro-climates, and vine heritage are all similar, so the Coudoulet wine always offers glimpses of its world-class terroir. This JS93 "solid, focused, juicy and poised wine" is picture-perfect introduction to the vintage at Beaucastel.

Finally, as icing on the cake, serious collectors shouldn't miss a chance to add a monumental vintage of the legendary Hommage ŕ Jacques Perrin to their cellars at unbeatable pricing. The 2022 Hommage is a triple 98-point masterpiece and collectible cornerstone that sets the bar for the appellation and the vintage. "Combining mind-boggling intensity with impressive verticality, the full-bodied 2022 is one of the wines of the vintage," notes Nicolas Greinacher of Vinous. Yohan Castaing's own 98-point Wine Advocate review likewise calls it "a spectacular and immense wine ... [and] a must-have for collectors and enthusiasts." With the amply seductive style of the vintage, it's also likely to give off serious fireworks right now if you're the impatient type. Either way, this is a no-brainer opportunity for anyone who's serious about the world's greatest collectible wines.

At every stage of the hierarchy and every price tier, Beaucastel proves its mettle time and time again, and these latest releases are unequivocal gems for any fan of Southern Rhône's best wines.

93JS 92WA 92JD

A solid, focused, juicy and poised wine, showing red berries, sweet spices and dried-flower aromas. Medium-bodied with finely grained tannins. Lovely crushed-strawberry character to the silky texture. Bright and fruit-forward, this has a seductive, succulent finish and a lift of peppercorns. Drink or hold.

93 points, James Suckling (Apr 2025)

The 2023 Cotes du Rhone Coudoulet de Beaucastel reveals aromas of dark berries, flowers, spices and garrigue, followed by a medium- to full-bodied, round and charming palate framed by velvety tannins. It concludes with a long, fruity and gourmand finish. This is a great vintage for Coudoulet—a blend of 30% Mourvčdre, 30% Grenache Noir, 30% Syrah and 10% Cinsault.

92 points, Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate (Oct 2025)

Bottled three months ago and showing beautifully, the 2023 Côtes Du Rhône Coudoulet De Beaucastel is based on 30% each of Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvčdre with 10% Cinsault and brought up all in foudre. It offers darker berries, pepper, sappy flowers, and some obvious stony, earth-like minerality in a medium-bodied, nicely concentrated, layered style. It's balanced with terrific purity, ripe tannins, and outstanding length, offering incredible pleasure today, yet it will keep for 10-12 years. Drink 2025-2036.

2022 Etude Pinot Noir Estate Grace Benoist Ranch (750ml)
Pinot Noir from Carneros, California
B-21 Top Recommendation

Pinot Noir is a big deal in California, and while places like Sonoma, Santa Cruz, and Santa Barbara are at the front of everyone's minds, Carneros is the original cool climate AVA in California. Situated at the very south of Napa Valley, it's completely exposed to the influence of nearby San Pablo bay, and the potential for great Pinot Noir and Chardonnay has been established here for decades.

One of the long-time, mainstay benchmarks for top-tier Carneros Pinot Noir is Etude, whose home estate of Grace Benoist ranch is one of the most historic vineyard properties in California. Originally founded and put on the map by the legendary Tony Soter, Etude has been under the direction of the equally skilled Jon Priest since 2005. He has continued the legacy of Etude as a Carneros standard-bearer, and the 2022 Grace Benoist Ranch Estate Pinot Noir is ample proof. With 96 points from James Suckling, it's a top-flight value contender in California Pinot at an outrageous $25 price for our private clients. This "floral and impressively complex" expression is premium California Pinot Noir all the way at a case-buy price that allows you to take house red roster up a level or two.

Bright aromas of fresh raspberries, violets, graphite and rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied with glossy tannins and balanced acidity, giving flavors of dried strawberries, cassia bark, citrus peel and dried herbs. Very well constructed, with underlying tension. Drink or hold.

"...the [2024s] have beautiful concentration and real tension. Well done." - Anne Krebiehl, Vinous

Arguably one of the top three estate in the Wachau, Rudi Pichler is a unanimous reference-point for the region, and there are few, if any, estates that have the same wherewithal to spin absolute gold out of a difficult vintage. Old vines, steep slopes, and Rudi's uncompromising, meticulous skills turned out a range of stunning expressions that are easily among the best in the category.

From the beautifully balanced, 94-point Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Terrassen to the towering excellence of the 98-point Riesling and Grüner Smaragds from the Achleiten site, the entire range is comprised of must-have benchmarks for serious Austrian fans. Savvy buyers will not overlook the "exquisite purity and expression" of the double 96-point Riesling Smaragd Kirchweg or the equally "stunning" Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Kollmutz.

These are just a few of the highlights in an entire line-up that sets the bar for the vintage, and to top it all off, don't miss the very last stocks of the equally prodigious 2023s, still available at remarkable pricing.

92JS 91V

Very fresh and crisp, with plenty of substance. There’s green peppercorn and garden herb character on the barely medium-bodied palate. So clean and straight in the long, herbal and appley finish. A cuvee from around 20 vineyard sites. Sustainable. Drink or hold.

92 points, Stuart Pigott, James Suckling (Sep 2024)

The 2023 Grüner Veltliner Federspiel is harvested across the estate in varying sites, some with a two-week difference in harvest date. Rich yeast, imbued with russet pear peel, is fragrant on the nose, giving away a slight sense of pepper. The palate is juicy and ripe but has a lovely stony aspect amidst its creaminess. There is concentration, savoriness and well-contained but undoubted power, especially for a Federspiel. More air brings more savoriness with a lovely echo of white pepper. (Bone-dry)

2024 Antinori Tenuta Guado al Tasso Il Bruciato (750ml)
Cabernet Sauvignon from Bolgheri, Tuscany, Italy
B-21 Top Recommendation

"This is a magical property. Of late, the wines have been pretty magical too." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

While Tignanello gets all (or almost all) the attention in the Marchesi Antinori stable, the Guado al Tasso wines have started to gain some serious traction of their own among Italian fans, and they now stand apart from their more famous sibling in all the right ways. Indeed, recent vintages have seen the estate hit new benchmarks in quality and acclaim, something that continues in this trio of new releases.

The 2024 Il Bruciato stands out as one of the Tuscany's leading value buys once again, capturing the power of the warm vintage while retaining ample freshness to make it accessible even today. This JD91 blend of Bordeaux varietals plus Syrah offers up a thoroughly modern profile with tons of broad, crowd-pleasing appeal and a price to match.

The Super Tuscan blends are the attention-getters in the Antinori portfolio, but the 2022 Cont' Ugo Merlot is an insider's savvy buy. We know, we know ... Merlot? Yes, Merlot. It's one of the most intriguing and dynamic varietals in Tuscany today. The coastal climate and soils are ideally suited to this Bordeaux transplant, but the result is never just an imitation of the Right Bank style. Instead, Merlot takes on its own singular Tuscan character that lends a new and vibrant perspective to the grape and the category as a whole, and the 94-point 2022 Cont' Ugo is a prime example.

Finally, the latest vintage of Guado al Tasso shows the unmatched pedigree of Antinori, from the sterling quality of the fruit, to the clear terroir signatures, to the precise and meticulous winemaking, which really was deciding factor in the 2022 vintage. As Monica Larner of Wine Advocate declares in her 96-point review, "The wine is velvety and richly textured at its core, but it is also seamless with very pleasurable sweetness." Everything about the 2022 is expertly composed and in its proper place, earning it three rock-solid, 96-point reviews from Italy's leading critics. For those who follow the Italian collectible scene, especially the Super Tuscan category, you'll no doubt be making room in the cellar for this exceptional expression from one of Italy's most iconic estates.

The 2024 Il Bruciato, a blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Cabernet Franc, 18% Merlot, 8% Syrah, and 7% Petit Verdot, pours a youthful, saturated ruby hue. The nose is expressive and detailed, with aromas of wildflowers, thyme, ripe cherry, and a subtle gamey earthiness. Medium to full-bodied, it shows a rounded, chocolate-tinged texture balanced by refreshing acidity and a finessed, even structure. Despite challenges in the vineyard this season, the results overcame them, and the wine retains good clarity and a savory, umami-tinged depth without excess weight. It’s polished and approachable. Drink 2026-2036.
