Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA 6pk
American IPA from Milton, Delaware

92BA

Mildly estery with hints of floral citric hop, cookie like malt and a faded buttery yeast combo. Lots of fresh hop oil flavour, very juicy with citric and bitter herbal tones. Solid maltiness holds up to the hops well with a dough toasted grain mix. Touch of nutty yeast with a slight warmth from estery alcohol. Finish semi-dry with a long lingering bitter finish from the hops. An idea IPA to have around, very drinkable and very flavourful. With it being bottle conditioned I'll have to make this a regular in my fridge.

Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA 6pk
American Double / Imperial IPA from Milton, Delaware

96BA 95DM

Fresh hop aroma, very oily with herbal and piney notes. Ripe fruity esters and some sweet malt in the back. This beer is so juicy, what a hop punch it has. Lots of bitterness and a ton of hop oil flavor from front to back. Very smooth with a thick malty body. Nice cake like maltiness in the middle with a ripe fruit and alcoholic kick in the end, finishes a little sweet with lingering bitter hop tones. An exceptional example of an American Double IPA, no worries about getting my hop fix here.

96 points, BeerAdvocate (Feb 2004)

This beer has been hailed as the best IPA in America, so we thought we had better give it a try. In addition to the raisin and plum notes in the nose, the strong resin character and deep amber color are a dead giveaway that this beer is going to be a full experience. It might not be a beginner's brew, but if you know what to expect, this Dogfish Head IPA is incredible. Amazingly smooth for such a strong brew, this IPA has impressions of sherry and cognac with a strong hop flavor and bitterness. Enjoy it responsibly, but enjoy it often.

Dogfish Head Punkin Ale 6pk
Pumpkin Ale from Milton, Delaware

90WE

This pours a gorgeous, clear burnt-orange color with a small off-white head that quickly fades. The spice aromas—nutmeg, clove and cinnamon—immediately waft from the glass, with the rich, bready malt and roasted-pumpkin core providing a solid backbone. Toasted malt and gourd flavors lead on the medium-bodied palate, with brisk carbonation that keeps the mouthfeel lifted and clean. The spice notes return on the finish, alongside accents of brown sugar and faint hop bitterness.

Founders Backwoods Bastard 4pk
Scotch Ale / Wee Heavy from Grand Rapids, Michigan

94WE

This is the barrel-aged version of Founders' year-round wee heavy, Dirty Bastard. The Bourbony oak influences are apparent throughout, with assertive aromas and flavors of peppery wood, vanilla, cocoa powder and campfire smoke. The malty core of caramel malt, toffee, toasted hazelnut, Whoppers and molasses-drizzled fruitcake fills the palate, grounding the sweet smoke and spicy oak accents. Bold and mouthfilling, the body is rich and filling but balanced by medium carbonation and a warm, peaty finish. A good candidate for medium-term cellaring; enjoy in six-month intervals to track its evolution.

Founders Centennial IPA 15pk Cans
American IPA from Grand Rapids, Michigan

Creamy looking head, hazed from the hops with a tawny hue. Soft hop oil aroma, very fragrant. Clean but pungent citric hop character, warming white pepper alcohol with layers of fruitiness and toasted caramel middle to end. Super drinkable even @ 7.2% abv. This is what American IPAs are all about.

Founders Dirty Bastard Scotch Ale 6pk
Scotch Ale / Wee Heavy from Grand Rapids, Michigan

88DM

Founders is not too concerned with what people say their beer should taste like: The brewery's one guiding principle is to simply craft the beers its brewers want to drink. Why else would a style that recieves very little attention be Founders' flagship brew? Dirty Bastard, a strong Scotch ale that isn't quite brewed to style guidelines, has a much stronger hop flavor and bitter profile than most strong Scotch ales. You may notice these hops slightly in the aroma, but they will dominate your swallow's finish. Other flavors to note are vinous wine taste and ripe raspberry and cherry flavors. Although Dirty Bastard is too bitter to be the best example of this style, it is still quite enjoyable. Also notice this beer's gorgeous light mahogany color, another aspect of this beer that makes it a worthy departure from the norm.

Founders All Day IPA 15pk Cans
American IPA from Grand Rapids, Michigan

90WE

A clear golden-orange color in the glass, this is an easy-drinking selection that can certainly be a session beer for IPA lovers. Moderate earthy hop aromas lead the nose, along with notes of grapefruit rind and soft pine needles. The mouthfeel is full but fresh, with bright orange supreme and light malt flavors. It's well-balanced overall, with a light pithy bitterness on the finish.

Founders Porter 6pk
American Porter from Grand Rapids, Michigan

95DM 94BA 93WE

Founders’ Porter fills the glass inky black and tops it with a thick, creamy tan head. Its fetching aroma is thick with roasted malt, dark chocolate and hints of toffee. Sliding across the tongue with a smooth mouthfeel, this beer delivers strong coffee notes with sweet chocolate and toffee accents. Robust roasted bitterness meets hop bitterness to counter the beer’s smooth sweetness, creating a balance that’s surprisingly delicate for such a bold porter. As dryness sets in, chocolate notes are all that remain of this flavorful treat.

95 points, Draft Magazine

Thick beading of tiny bubbles produces an amazing-looking head and sticky lacing; pitch-black color is saying it's a serious beer as well. Slightly burnt biscuit aroma is quickly followed by a sweeter mocha tone. A welcome hefty body here with just enough bubbles to get by. Slightly burnt choco maltiness has a firm grip on the taste buds. Hops give a quick sting of bitterness and an earthy flavor in the middle. Roastiness is well flexed and shows its range, from faint, smoky, charred wood to bitter dark chocolate to over-toasted bread. Some yeast and fruit in the end as well, as a sweetness lifts from the ashes. This Porter means business--one of the best robust Porters around.

94 points, BeerAdvocate (Mar 2011)

The bottle reads “dark, rich & sexy” and boy is it right. This is a fuller, weightier example of the style, with balanced but forward roasted coffee bean, bittersweet chocolate, licorice stick and smoky vanilla aromas and flavors. The mouthfeel is sheer decadence, smooth and creamy, with thick molasses and espresso grind accents on the close.

A quiet, gently floral and perfumy aroma trickles out of the glass. A creamy sip pulls toasted malts across the tongue; woody hops frame the flavor while floral and minty accents weave through the swallow. The sip’s clean and easy with firm bitterness drawing it to a well-timed conclusion.
