Aromas of cherry chocolate, dried orange peel, rose petals and nutmeg on the nose, following through to a medium body with crunchy tannins and polished texture. Hints of fresh cherries and dried flowers with crushed stone character at the end. Drink or hold.

Magenta with a tinge of purple, the 2020 Chianti Classico Riserva offers a darker mineral profile in its notes of graphite, blackberry, lavender, and sweet sage. Full-bodied, it has wonderful length, and its more primary fruit profile weaves seamlessly through its mineral-tinged backbone and mouthwatering finish. Although it’s not a bright wine in terms of its acidity, it’s certainly fresh and is a very attractive wine from this vintage with the potential to cruise over the next 10- 12 years.

From the warmer, south-facing sites of the Castelnuovo Berardenga-based estate, this Riserva spends 12 months in small French oak and includes 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, which together lend coffee and intense dark fruits to the fragrant fresh and dried cherries courtesy of the Sangiovese. A herbal note combines with soft, chalky tannins and good acidity, with licks of wood, cream and zingy raspberry on the long finish. Still quite closed, this would benefit from a bit more time before opening.
