A superb, albeit still very youthful wine, the 2020 Chinon Clos du Noyer highlights the potential of this estate and the Grosbois brothers' ability to craft exceptional Cabernet Franc. It reveals a dense, complex bouquet of licorice, spices, gentian, dark berries and flowers, followed by a juicy attack, a round and velvety texture, sweet tannins and a delicate, satiny core of fruit, with a long, precise and mineral finish. It’s pure and complete.

The 2020 Clos du Noyer is a sleek, polished style that reminds me of fast cars. Its alcohol is slightly elevated with ripeness and sweetness of fruit that speaks of the warm vintage but the acidity gives it drive. This has finely handled tannins that coat the palate. It will be well liked, but I can't help feeling that it's perhaps too neat for the Grosbois stable.

This single-vineyard wine is young. Cherry fruits and acidity burst with energy that will begin to soften shortly. The wine is ready to age to bring out its natural richness. Drink from 2024.
