Four centuries of grape growing and winemaking, the Gini family continues to produce some of the most compelling wines of the Veneto. Their top bottlings come from holdings in the Cru Frosca, one of the most characteristic and historic Crus of Soave Classico. Frosca is distinguished by its combination of volcanic soils and limestone outcroppings. Within the Frosca Cru, is the ancient vineyard (Contrada) Salvarenza, comprised of vines 80 to 160 years of age. Purchased in 1852, the vines in Contrada Salvarenza average 80 years old, a third exceed 100 years old and some as old as 160 years. Incredibly rare are the ungrafted vines which existed pre-phylloxera – that is prior to the epidemic that decimated most of European vineyards during the late nineteenth century. |
