B21 should do what they say they will do i.e. make a 21+ sign for package. Otherwise they should give option to drop package off with no signature needed. Then I will not have to wait around the house all fricken day!

2023 Benton Lane Estate Pinot Noir (750ml)
Pinot Noir from Willamette, Oregon
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

"This is a ripe and expressive Pinot Noir..." - Clive Pursehouse, Decanter

In the realm of domestic Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley is still ground zero for unbeatable value, and Benton-Lane's 2023 Pinot Noir shows exactly why. This 86-acre estate at the southern end of Willamette Valley on the border of Benton County and Lane County (get it?) has been a source of outstanding overachievers for decades, despite being off the beaten path of Oregon's most famous AVAs. The warmer micro-climate at this end of the valley results in a wine of "generosity of fruit" and "impressive freshness," with solid critical praise and an easy case-buy price that makes it a perfect addition to your go-to Pinot repertoire.

93D 91V

This is a ripe and expressive Pinot Noir blended by Amael Orrego, who crafts this wine across more than 80 Pinot Noir blocks. Sois bois and mushroom notes show an earthy immediacy in the aromatics, followed by ripe cherries and a touch of dusty minerality. The palate is sleek, showing freshness and a surprising structure. Ripe, fleshy red berries, savoury herbs, and a fresh forest element of pine bough and raspberry leaf balance the generosity of the fruit with the elegance of the savoury and umami nuances.

2021 Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon (750ml)
Cabernet Sauvignon from Alexander Valley, California
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

No introduction needed here. The iconic Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet is a smash hit in the outstanding 2021 vintage, with 96 points from Decanter making it one of the highest-rated vintages in years for this all-time fan favorite.

"...beautifully layered and highly fragrant, with remarkable precision and focus in this vintage." - Jonathan Cristaldi, Decanter

We just negotiated a spectacular price that we're passing on exclusively to our private clients, so you can load up just in time for the holidays with a perfect performer for gifts and lavish celebrations. "So full-bodied, ripe and robust" according James Suckling's California critic, Jim Gordon, the 2021 is redolent of profound, dark fruit and spicy oak character, but the winemaking team executed everything to pinpoint precision, so nothing is overdone or out of place. It's pure Silver Oak all the way, exactly how the wine's legions of fans like it.

96D

The 2021 Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon from Alexander Valley was harvested between 4 September and 8 October. The blend comprises 96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Merlot and 1% each of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. After blending, it was barrel-aged for 24 months in American oak, 50% of which was new, followed by 14 months of bottle ageing prior to release. The wine is beautifully layered and highly fragrant, with remarkable precision and focus in this vintage. Medium- to full-bodied, it integrates the hallmark Silver Oak American spice character through cedarwood aromatics, elegant whispers of vanilla bean, and nuances of fresh fennel (from more refined American oak barrels crafted after precision trials of both seasoning and toasting from the American oak cooperage they own in Higbee, Missouri). Supple dark-cherry and blackberry fruit are framed by graphite minerality, violets and clove, building in richness and complexity across the palate. Suave and silken, the dark-berry fruit is wrapped in a tapestry of velvety tannins, gliding to a focused finish of brown baking spices and crisp, clean acidity.

2013 Lopez de Heredia Vina Tondonia Reserva (750ml)
Tempranillo from Rioja, Spain
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

Anyone who knows Rioja knows that Lopez de Heredia is the standard-bearer for the classic soul of the region, turning out definitive renditions in a remarkable consistent style for over six decades. Part of their undeniable appeal is the estate's vast cellars, where they have enviable capacity to age wines to perfection before releasing them to market.Case in point is the newly arrived 2013 Vina Tondonia Reserva, just now hitting the market after over a decade at rest in the LdH cellars.

"Medium-bodied with chalky grip and a layered, tertiary finish, this is a benchmark classic—refined, enduring and unmistakably Tondonia."- Joaquin Hidalgo, Vinous

From a cool, wet vintage, it's a stunning achievement of "canonical" style that shows this iconic Spanish estate at its very best. Modest alcohol, bright acidity and super-refined tannins give plenty of framing for the calcareous Tondonia soils to impart their personality on the wine, Like all Lopez new releases, it's showing its exceptional personality thanks to proper aging at the estate, but this is undoubtedly a classic Rioja cellar gem that should be stocked deep to enjoy time and time again over the next two decades, an easy proposition considering our flat-out ridiculous sub-$40 price.

97V 95WA

The 2013 Reserva Viña Tondonia is a blend of 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha and 10% Graciano and Mazuelo, grown in the calcareous soils of the Tondonia meander in Rioja Alta. Aged extensively in American oak, it offers restrained black fruit, wild herbs, balsamic hints and sweet spices with gentle cedar and vanilla notes. Medium-bodied with chalky grip and a layered, tertiary finish, this is a benchmark classic—refined, enduring and unmistakably Tondonia.

97 points, Joaquín Hidalgo, Vinous (May 2025)

The canonical red 2013 Viña Tondonia Reserva has a developed nose of dried roses and tar that transported me to Piamonte but soon took me back to the López de Heredia cellars in Haro with the mixture of mushrooms, truffles, damp earth and decayed leaves, hints of brick dust and spice. 2013 was a rainy year, with 753 liters of it, well above the average of 530 liters in Haro. It was also a cooler year, and the ripeness was slow, so they didn't start picking until the seventh of October, but they had to hurry up because of the risk of botrytis. The crop was not so big, because they suffered from hail in July that affected the Viña Tondonia, coupled with strong winds that broke many branches. The breakdown in 2013 comes to 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacho and 5% each Graciano and Mazuelo that fermented in old oak vats with indigenous yeasts. All the wines age in old American oak barrels in their caves, in this case for no less than six years. It comes in at 13% alcohol with a pH of 3.4 and 6.6 grams of acidity, perhaps a lighter vintage with higher acidity that translates into a lot of energy, a fine-boned palate and very fine tannins with a vibrant finish. 190,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in November 2021. It should be released in the spring of 2025, almost 12 years after the harvest. And look at the price...

2018 Rauzan-Segla (750ml)
Cabernet Sauvignon from Margaux, Bordeaux, France
B-21 Top Recommendation

Described by Jeb Dunnuck as an estate "firing on all cylinders," there's no doubt that Super Second Chateau Rauzan-Segla ranks at the top of the Margaux appellation, these high scoring Left Bank blends from outstanding recent vintages offering First Growth depth and cellar worthy complexity at a fraction of the price.

Located a short walk from the village of Margaux, Chateau Rauzan-Segla has been owned by the Wertheimer family of the fashion house Chanel since 1984, the estate undergoing a "no expense spared" restoration and revitalization that has fueled its steady rise in quality over the past two decades. Crafted by former Krug and Cheval des Andes winemaker Nicolas Audebert, the Grand Vin was sourced from the estate's 70 hectares of organically farmed vineyards throughout the appellation with some parcels close to First Growth Chateau Margaux and aged in mostly new French oak for 18 months.

Living up to the Chateau's rising star reputation as "an estate that can do no wrong" according to Jeb Dunnuck, these lush Chateau Rauzan-Segla blends boast refined, polished tannins that promise longevity, this offer a perfect opportunity for Bordeaux fans to stock the cellar with top scoring values rivalling its First Growth peers at a best on the market price.

99JD 99JS 98WA 97V 97WI 97WE 97JA

Reminding me of the 2016, the 2018 Château Rauzan-Segla reveals this beautifully fresh, complex bouquet that still has serious richness and depth. Based on 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, raised in 65% new barrels, it offers a dense purple hue to go with gorgeous notes of blackcurrants, spring flowers, cigar wrapper, and sandalwood. A quintessential Margaux with its spicy, complex, floral character, it's full-bodied and has a supple, elegant texture, no hard edges, a solid spine of acidity, and a great, great finish. This is a brilliant, heavenly 2018 to enjoy over the coming 30 years or more.

99 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Mar 2021)

Aromas of crushed blackberries and blueberries with dried flowers and bark, following through to a full body with a tight and powerful palate of beautiful fruit and chewy yet polished tannins that are compressed and impressive. Extremely linear and intense. Muscular, in a toned way. Yet it opens in the mouth at you taste it. 60% cabernet sauvignon and 40% merlot. Drink after 2025.

99 points, James Suckling (Feb 2022)

The 2018 Rauzan-Ségla is composed of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. The wine has 14% alcohol, and it was aged for around 18 months in barriques, 65% new. Deep garnet-purple colored, it comes galloping out of the glass with powerful, energetic scents of crushed black cherries, blackcurrant cordial and mulberries, plus suggestions of violets, star anise, chocolate mint and crushed rocks with a touch of tobacco leaf. The medium to full-bodied palate is jam-packed with taut, muscular black fruit layers, supported by firm, ripe, grainy tannins and bold freshness, finishing with fantastic length and loads of earthy sparks. This is a thoroughbred Margaux, for sure, possessing amazing power in a very sleek, sophisticated package. Give it 5-7 years in bottle to unlock all those earth, floral and mineral nuances and drink it over the next 40 years or more. An incredible achievement that adeptly sidesteps the potentially overwhelming stamps of this extreme vintage. Bravo to Technical Director Nicolas Audebert and the team at Rauzan-Ségla!

98 points, Wine Advocate (Mar 2021)

The 2018 Rauzan-Ségla is fabulous. Inky, rich and explosive, the 2018 offers tremendous depth and soaring intensity. Super-ripe red cherry, cedar, tobacco, mint and spice all build over time, framed by incomparably silky, polished tannins. Today, the 2018 is dense and packed. I expect it will develop into a stunning Margaux in another 10-15 years or so. Actually, it already is.

97+ points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Mar 2021)

The 2018 Rauzan-Segla has a deep garnet purple color. It is a little closed to begin, unfurling to reveal notes of blackcurrant cordial, juicy blackberries, and mulberries, plus hints of cedar chest, pencil lead, and wild sage. Full-bodied, rich, concentrated and with a firm structure of grainy tannins and plenty of freshness, it finishes long and layered. Built for the long haul!

97+ points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Independent (Feb 2023)

Warm-hearted and rich with black-plum and dark-chocolate flavors, this wine comes from one of the properties owned by the Chanel luxury group. The dense tannins and generous fruits are typical of wines from this top estate. Drink from 2027.

97 points, Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast (May 2021)

Luscious aromatics of ripe figs, blackberry puree, red liqourice, the tannins are supple and even a little melted at five years old, although there are plenty of them, and they are still fully in control. The floral waves of violet, roses and raspberry leaf that so often accompany Rauzan Ségla are present even in this hot year, with low yields of 32hl/h after mildew early in the season (any impacted vines were harvested, sorted and vinified separately). 65% new oak, 32hl/h yield, 3.8ph. Composed of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35.5% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot, and 0.5% Cabernet Franc, the 2019 Rauzan-Segla is deep garnet-purple colored. It is a little closed and broody to begin, soon fanning out to offer up notes of kirsch, black cherry preserves, and warm cassis, plus touches of smoked meats, wild blueberries, violets, and cedar chest, along with a hint of charcoal. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is very tightly wound with loads of earthy accents among the densely laden fruit and fine-grained tannins, finishing long and savory.

98 points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Independent (Apr 2022)

The Grand Vin 2019 Château Rauzan-Ségla is beautiful, and it seems this estate can do no wrong since 2015. A more elegant, ethereal, complex Margaux, it has a perfumed and complex style in its red, blue, and black fruits as well as notes of white flowers, chalky minerality, and exotic spices. Haute couture at its finest and seamless, medium to full-bodied, perfectly balanced, and just stunning any way you look at it, it already offers pleasure today yet will easily have 30 years of prime drinking.

97 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Apr 2022)

The 2019 Rauzan-Ségla is a wine that I did not taste en primeur. Picked from September 12 to October 9 and matured in 60% new oak, it has a gorgeous, seductive bouquet of pure blackberry, bilberry, crushed iris petals and just a hint of licorice. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins and good cohesion and depth. The oak is seamlessly integrated on the finish, which lingers like a temptress. Two samples tasted, the second demonstrating a little more salinity on the aftertaste. This will be irresistible.

97 points, Neal Martin, Vinous (Feb 2022)

The 2019 Rauzan-Ségla has turned out brilliantly, unwinding in the glass with fragrant aromas of cassis, blackberries, violets, rose petals and sweet soil tones. Medium to full-bodied, seamless and concentrated, it's deep and layered, with beautifully refined tannins, lively acids and a long, perfumed finish. This is a sensual, elegant Rauzan-Ségla from Nicolas Audebert and his team.

96 points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate (Apr 2022)

Subtle and complex aromas of sweet berries, rose stems and lavender with some sandalwood. Medium-to full-bodied with beautiful depth of fruit, creamy tannins and lots of chocolate and berry character. Yet, it’s tight at the end, showing beautiful depth and length. So structured. Try after 2027.

2020 Domaine Gadais Muscadet Monnieres St-Fiacre Plantation 1947 (750ml)
Melon de Bourgogne from Muscadet, Loire, France
B-21 Top Recommendation

Perhaps the most compelling feature of the Loire wine scene is the sheer treasure trove of over-performing values to be found nearly everywhere you look up and down the valley. True insiders know the first place to go to maximize the value of your dollar is Muscadet Sèvre et Maine at the far western end of the Loire.

Made strictly from the Mélon de Bourgogne grape, these wines are well-known for their racy acidity and vibrant mineral character, accentuated by the cool maritime climate and balanced by textural richness thanks to aging on the fine lees. Based on those qualities, you might think these are ideal pairings for seafood, and you'd be right. Have some top-notch oysters but don't want to splash out for Champagne? Muscadet is your answer!

This trio from the reference-point Domaine Gadais is exemplary of what the category offers white wine lovers – beautifully crafted, pure terroir expressions, glowing critical praise, and must-see pricing that invites stocking up by the case. And the best part? Each wine is emblematic of Muscadet's famed age-worthy potential, putting them among the sharpest cellar buys anywhere in the world.

95JG

The 2020 Muscadet “Monnières Saint Fiacre” 1947 from Domaine Gadais, named for the year that Louis Gadais first purchased a plot of land in the vineyard of Gras Mouton and started planting it, is simply brilliant. Like all Cru bottlings, the wine has been given a minimum of two years aging sur lies prior to bottling and offers up a deep, bright and beautifully complex constellation of breadfruit, sweet leesy tones, raw almond, wet stone minerality, gentle brininess and a topnote of dried flowers. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, focused and complex, with a lovely core of fruit, superb mineral undertow, good acids and impressive balance and grip on the long, poised and seamless finish. Superb juice.

2024 Capichera Vermentino di Gallura Superiore Vign'angena (750ml)
Vermentino from Sardinia, Italy
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

It seems Italy's white wine scene is getting better and better with each vintage, and you can now add the 97-point 2024 Capichera Vermentino Vigna'angena to the list of the country's benchmark, native-grape expressions. Arguably the finest estate in Sardinia's Gallura DOCG.

The recent acquisition of the estate by Italian wine entrepreneur Carlo Campanini Bonomi has ensured that this iconic property not only remains a standard-bearer for the island, but that it takes its game to next level by staying true to its singular terroir. Bonomi considers the property to be one of great heritage, and it's his responsibility to carry that heritage forward. To that end, his extensive investments since his purchase are now paying off big time, as we clearly see in this stunning tete de cuvée. Harvested entirely from estate vineyards, the Vigna'angena is quintessential Vermentino, with an intense mineral backbone balanced by full-ish weight and texture.

The original vision of Capichera's founder is on full display in this latest rendition under the estate's new ownership - to produce the finest expressions of an Italian winemaking tradition that dates back a thousand years, and to position the estate as its global ambassador. Based on the 2024 Vigna'angena, we'd say they're succeeding with flying colors.

A restrained vermentino focused on stony minerality, showing seaweed aromas, grapefruit peel and iodine character. There’s weight on the medium- to full-bodied palate, the density balanced by tense lemony acidity and a savory, tingling finish. Drink now.

As I have mentioned in the past the Péninsula “Vieilles Vignes” bottling from the Gadais family is made from vines that were planted in 1929, so these ancient vines are now closing in on their one hundredth birthday. The 2023 Péninsula is a stunning young Muscadet, revealing a complex aromatic constellation of tart pear, breadfruit, citrus peel, a beautiful base of minerality, sea salts, lemon blossoms, a touch of iodine and a topnote of ocean breeze. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, focused, zesty and bottomless at the core with old vine fruit, with great mineral undertow and grip, impeccable balance and a long, precise and vibrant finish. This is, of course, delicious to drink today, but it is really built to be cellared for a while and to allow all of the magical complexity of ancient vines to shine front and center!

95 points, John Gilman, View From The Cellar (Aug 2025)

The 2023 vintage was difficult for much of the Loire, but Muscadet really came out on top, and Gadais’ old-vine standout shows why they’re a first-rate domaine to know here. From 50-year-old vines in the village of Saint-Fiacre, it boasts a deep and broad nose of ripe melon fruit, banana, and lemon oil, with balanced lees notes and subtle hints of barrel spice. The underlying minerality shows through in great fashion alongside complex tones of crushed white flowers, lemon cookies, and Chenin-like beeswax. The palate is still more primary than the nose with substance in reserve, showcasing fantastic tension between lees weight and acidity. This brilliant textural dichotomy frames racy, tart lemon and lime, plus superb mineral elements of crushed gravel and oyster shell. I continue to be highly impressed by the quality of these wines, and the prices are still just unbelievable, especially for something you can stash in the cellar for years without issue.

San Vicente is as unconventional a project as you'll find in Rioja. When the Eguren family ripped up their vineyard in the early 1980s and replanted it with a massale selection of clones from their lowest-yielding vines, the consternation and ridicule came from all corners of the region. But he who laughs last laughs best, and now the Eguren family's efforts have been totally vindicated, as the wine is coveted Rioja collector's treasure year in and year out.

"The 2021 San Vicente showcases the completeness of the year with a rare combination of power and elegance" - Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate

At its debut one of the first single-cru bottlings that Rioja had ever seen, San Vicente has changed the region's dynamics over the past few decades, with numerous producers now following the Eguren family's lead and going for a site-specific, terroir-driven approach to their wines. A true original and still one of the best, San Vicente has once again stunned critics left and right with the 97-point 2021 vintage. "This has immediate charm and long-term aging potential. It is already expressive but will deepen beautifully over time," writes Vinous' Joaquin Hidalgo. The wine's refined, modern style and impeccable class have garnered the San Vicente a devoted following that will no doubt go head over heels for this latest expression, especially at our unmatched private client price that beats the rest of the market by a wide margin.

97JD 95WA 95V

Founded in 1991 in La Canoca by the Eguren family of Sierra Cantabria, the 2021 San Vicente is 100% Tempranillo from the highest area of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, the grapes a massal selection of a nearly extinct variety called Tempranillo Peludo. The vines are well-balanced to the region and climate and have profound acidity. Bordeaux barrels age the wine for 20 months. Salty and earthy, it has an old-world quality accented in rich black fruit, sous bois, oak spice, graphite, and dried herb, finishing with a complex finesse that should keep it singing another 20-25 years.

97 points, Virginie Boone, Jeb Dunnuck (Jul 2025)

The 2021 San Vicente showcases the completeness of the year with a rare combination of power and elegance, with intensity of fruit, clout and very good freshness and the roundness of the tannins from the year. It has a lot of everything; the selection of Tempranillo used for this wine gave a lot of color, notes of aromatic herbs and ripe berry fruit and a solid palate, but it's fine-boned, with a beautiful texture. It's still young but already shows incipient complexity. It absorbed the new oak (French and American) pretty early, and the aromas and flavors are very integrated. It should be very long lived. This is one of the finest vintages for San Vicente. 50,000 bottles. It was bottled in August 2023.

95 points, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate (Feb 2025)

The 2021 San Vicente was made from 100% Tempranillo Peludo, a rare variant of the grape. This was grown on clay and coarse gravel in La Canoca, San Vicente de la Sonsierra. Aged for 20 months in mostly French oak, the nose is expressive, with red fruit, balsamic herbs, undergrowth and a light note of orange peel. On the palate, it’s intense and textured, with chalky tannins and a broad stream of flavor. This has immediate charm and long-term aging potential. It is already expressive but will deepen beautifully over time.

Jacquesson Cuvee 747 (750ml)
Chardonnay from Champagne, France
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

"[Jacquesson] is poised to continue producing Champagnes with exceptional freshness and crystalline textures. The range is impressively consistent, and each cuvée beautifully reflects the soul and the distinct terroirs of this house based in Dizy." - Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate

Consistency is indeed the name of the game at this long-time fan favorite of B-21. Jacquesson's star rose to new heights under the lengthy ownership of the Chiquet brothers, and since its acquisition by the François Pinault juggernaut (owner of Chateau Latour, Clos de Tart, and Napa iconic Eisele Vineyard) in 2022, there have been no signs that anything is any different.

The newly arrived Cuvée 747 is exemplary of this flagship bottling in many ways, but the higher inclusion of Pinot Noir in this 2019-base rendition gives it a notably more intense personality than in previous years. Earning 96 points from James Suckling, it's "a structured and creamy-textured Jacquesson NV with a very fine-bubble texture and lovely polish ... medium- to full-bodied with length and sophistication." Showing the genius of the Chiquet brothers in transparent clarity, the 747 is "an edition that closely reflects the character of the vintage, marked by its tension and phenolic complexity" according to Yohan Castaing, and given the tension, textural depth, and structural foundation from the increased presence of the Pinot Noir, this is set for a wonderful evolution in the cellar over the next several years.

Not to be overlooked, we still have a small amount of the luxurious 746. Based on the warm, solar vintage of 2018, it's "plush with showy red fruit that shimmers amid a vibrant acid energy that brings loads of freshness to the long finish." The 746 will provide a fascinating juxtaposition to the more linear, stately 747, so you can have repeated enjoyment comparing the two side by side for years to come.

96JS 93WA 93JD 93V

A structured and creamy-textured Jacquesson NV with a very fine-bubble texture and lovely polish. It's medium- to full-bodied with length and sophistication, in a friendly and approachable way. Yet there is something that tells you it's going to deliver more with aging. More pinot in the blend than in other years, because the chardonnay was affected by frost, and it is impressive. Chewy at the end with phenolic tension and a slight bitterness, though in a good way. 2019 base. Three years on the yeast. Dosage 1.5g/L. Drink or hold.

96 points, James Suckling (Jul 2024)

Based on the 2019 vintage, the NV Extra-Brut Cuvée No. 747 reveals a lively, delicate bouquet of white pepper, tangerine, lemon oil, herbs and red berries mingled with lovely menthol notes. Medium to full-bodied, tense and sappy, it's layered with a vinous core of fruit and a delicately saline finish. This is not the most opulent iteration from this house but rather an edition that closely reflects the character of the vintage, marked by its tension and phenolic complexity.

93+ points, Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate (Oct 2024)

Based on the 2019 vintage, the NV Champagne Cuvée 747 pours a golden straw hue, and the nose is quite expressive and powerful immediately on opening, with notes of ripe red plum fruit, savory broth, and wet stone. Full-bodied, assertive, and warming on the palate, with a strong personality and savory umami notes through the finish, it’s perfect to pair with roast chicken and root vegetables. Great autumnal feel.

93 points, Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck (Dec 2024)

The NV Extra-Brut Cuvée No. 747 (2019 base) marries textural richness with notable vibrancy. Lemon confit, mint, white pepper, tangerine peel and graphite lend energy throughout. All the elements are very nicely balanced. I especially admire the textural depth here. Spring frost was particularly damaging to the Chardonnay, so the blend is distinctly Pinot-leaning in this release.

2023 Christophe Cordier Macon-Milly-Lamartine Clos du Four (750ml)
Chardonnay from Macon, Burgundy, France
B-21 Top Recommendation

"The 2023 Clos du Four is a beautiful example of its vineyard, offering everything you'd want from the Lafon version at nearly half the price." - Andrew Kitz, B-21 Burgundy Buyer

If you're an avid follower of the Mâcon and its growing reputation, you no doubt know the Clos du Four vineyard from Les Heritiérs du Comte Lafon. It's one of the most coveted sites in the appellation, so much so that Dominique Lafon sought an outright monoply of ownership and almost got it, but Christophe, who had been leasing his parcel from the previous owner for years, fought tooth and nail, ultimately securing his small plot at the top of the vineyard in sole defiance of the Lafon juggernaut. He has a certain wry sense of victory when he talks about this wine, as well he should. He knows the vines and the terroir like the back of his hand, and the result is a pure expression of a great site, made all the more singular by the miniscule parcel from which it comes. As white Burgundy discoveries go, they don't get much better than this.

92AK

This wine is indeed from that Clos du Four, arguably the most coveted vines in the Mâcon appellation. Les Heritièrs du Comte Lafon made this site a household name, but despite Lafon’s insistence on a monopoly, Christophe Cordier fought the good fight and managed to secure a prime parcel for himself at the top of the vineyard, the vines ranging in age from 60 to 80 years. “Dominique doesn’t like me now,” he told me in matter-of-fact fashion during my visit. The 2023 Clos du Four is a beautiful example of its vineyard, offering everything you’d want from the Lafon version at half the price. Solid depth on the nose, with well-defined apple and pear aromas, graceful hints of the 500L puncheons it was fermented in, and subtle minerality. The medium-weight palate shows its cards, matching the fruit on the nose, with pure and balanced precision tying everything together. A top-tier Mâcon expression for a steal.

2022 De Fieuzal Rouge (750ml)

"This 90-hecatre estate in Pessac-Léognan is undergoing a renaissance in the hands of winemaker Stephen Carrier and consultant Thomas Duclos ... In short, de Fieuzal is an estate to watch." - William Kelley, Wine Advocate

The above quote from William Kelley truly captures the sentiment around this hidden gem estate in Pessac-Léognan. In a Left Bank appellation known for pushing quality and value to new levels, Château de Fieuzal is hitting all the marks lately, as evidenced by today's line-up of recent releases.

The estate's red is a sub-$50 home-run hitter every year, and that kind of consistency is on display in the 2019, 2020, and 2022 vintages, the latter of which "shines for its balance and purity" per Jeb Dunnuck and was deserving of 96 points from Yohan Castaing ofWine Advocate. Not to be overlooked, the 2020 is also "a medium to full-bodied, seamless, layered wine " that has racked up impressive accolades from across the critical space for its "great mix of richness and elegance."

Finally, like any great Pessac estate, de Fieuzal's white wines are some of the best in Bordeaux, and the two vintages on offer today each boast an impressive critical line that tops off at 95 points. If you're a savvy Bordeaux enthusiast who's been looking for your next great discovery, you've found one in Château de Fieuzal.

96WA 94JS 93JD 93V 93D

The 2022 de Fieuzal meets all expectations, unfurling with a perfumed bouquet of violet, iris, dark wild berries and flowers. Medium to full-bodied, seamless and layered, it gains depth with the élevage, revealing a fleshy core of fruit and an enrobing mid-palate framed by velvety, sweet tannins. Finishing long, ethereal and fresh, this blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot is one of my favorite wines in Pessac-Léognan. It will offer a broad drinking window and should improve with time in the cellar.

96 points, Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate (Mar 2025)

Stemmy herbs with perfumed flowers, spices, morello cherries and baked citrus. Fresh and round with medium body and soft, fine-grained tannins. Long, plump and refined in the finish. Drink from 2026.

94 points, Zekun Shuai, James Suckling (Jan 2025)

A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot, the 2022 Château De Fieuzal is beautifully elegant, with a deep ruby/plum hue and a perfumed nose of red and black cherries, sappy herbs, and floral nuances. Medium-bodied and balanced on the palate, it has ripe yet polished tannins and a silky texture. It’s not a blockbuster and shines for its balance and purity. It will age gracefully over the coming 10-15 years.

93 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Feb 2025)

The 2022 Château de Fieuzal has a perfumed, well-defined and complex bouquet with blackberry, wild strawberry, gravel and juniper scents. I like the coolness of the aromatics. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a keen line of acidity. It's a more structured de Fieuzal than other vintages, but there is sufficient freshness and delineation on the spicy finish. Give this four to five years in bottle.

93 points, Neal Martin, Vinous (Jan 2025)

Cool blue fruit and wet stone nuances on the nose, smells fresh and inviting. Smooth and lively on the palate, this balances juicy red fruits - crisp cranberry, strawberry and chalky cherries - with quite powdery tannins giving a full mouthfeel and rich texture. I like the styling, feels well controlled with nuance and subtle power and leaves a lasting impression of mint, liquorice and graphite.

2023 Roucas Toumba Vacqueyras La Grande Terre (750ml)
Grenache from Vacqueyras, Rhône, France
B-21 Top Recommendation

We've been searching high and low for a top-notch Vacqueyras domaine to add to our direct-import stable, and last October we got more than we bargained for from Eric Boutelin's Roucas Toumba estate. The domaine is not nearly as well-known as it should be, given that he has some of the Vacqueyras appellation's most pristine, old-vine parcels and employs incredibly meticulous winemaking practices to give his vines their absolute best expression, resulting in what Wine Advocate's Yohan Castaing calls "some of the appellation’s most authentic and terroir-driven wines." After tasting through the latest releases, we couldn't agree more.

"The 2022 Vacqueyras les Restanques de Cabassole is a superb showing from this estate ... This is a serious Vacqueyras with depth, drive and aging potential." - Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate

The entire range is top-tier, and the 2022 Restanques de Cabassole is a true revelation of the absolute heights that Vacqueyras can reach and an absolutely showstopping effort that puts the appellation on another level altogether, notching 94+ points from Wine Advocate. B-21 Rhône Buyer Andrew Kitz calls it "a thoroughly complete expression of true Southern Rhône character, classic in every way."

"The purity and precision here are impressive, and the long, focused finish underscores its potential. This is a superb Vacqueyras..." - Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate

The 93-point 2023 La Grande Terre, another old-vine Grenache-based gem that's done entirely in concrete, which gives the wine absolutely stunning purity of fruit with "supple and enveloping" textural precision. Where the Restanques certainly needs time in the cellar to show all its cards, the Grande Terre is a thrilling preview that is accessible now, with the substance and craftsmanship to develop its own mesmerizing nuances over time, as well.

Vacqueyras has long lived in the shadow of Gigondas, but with efforts like these from Eric Boutelin, we're extremely excited to showcase the rising tide of quality in this excellent but overlooked appellation. There's no question that Boutelin's star is rising, and we're thrilled to add him to our direct-import portfolio, with two of the sharpest Rhône buys we've seen all year.

93WA

A compelling effort from this address, the 2023 Vacqueyras la Grande Terre is a beautifully composed Vacqueyras crafted from 60% old-vine Grenache Noir grown on galets roulés, 20% Mourvèdre planted on yellow clay and 20% Syrah rooted in blue marl. Aged and vinified entirely in concrete, it jumps from the glass with a perfumed bouquet of ripe black cherries, wild berries, crushed violets, rose petals and hints of lilac. Medium- to full-bodied, it’s supple and enveloping, with a layered core of fruit and velvety tannins that build across the palate. The purity and precision here are impressive, and the long, focused finish underscores its potential. This is a superb Vacqueyras that should drink well on release and evolve gracefully for a decade or more.

Signatory Speyside (M) 14yr 2011 Single Malt Scotch
From Speyside, Scotland
B-21 Top Recommendation

"It's tough to beat unadulterated Macallan in first-fill oloroso, especially at this price." - Andrew Kitz, B-21 Spirits Buyer

Single malt fans know that demand for Speyside's most famous distillery has hit such a fever pitch that prices have long since gone off the rails on official distillery bottlings, but thanks to top-tier independent bottlers like Signatory, we can still get our hands on some fan-favorite expressions that won't break the bank. Unfortunately, they don't tend to last long. Our offer late last year on the 2011 Speyside (M) 13 Year Old sold out in one day. Now that same juice is a year older and a year wiser, so it's a safe bet this 14 Year Old will see much the same reaction from our savvy single-malt fans.

The Speyside (M) made a name for itself a few years ago when it could still bear the Macallan name on the label, and even though we get the cryptic yet not-so-secret "M" designation nowadays, we're still getting that unmistakable Macallan character. All the more, Signatory bottles this release at 100 proof with no adulteration in the form of filtration or additives, so it's just pure Macallan and pure Speyside all the way. "It’s as pure an expression of the distillery as you’ll find," notes Andrew. Indeed, when you consider the specs, it's hard to argue. And when you factor in the price, it's a no-brainer for any avid Speyside fan, of Macallan or anything else.

94AK

Late last year, we jumped all over the last remaining stocks of the 13 Year Old rendition of this exceptional IB Macallan bottling from Signatory, and it became an instant hit, selling out in less than 24 hours. We were assured at the time that something even better was on the way in the form of the 14 Year Old version. Does one extra year in cask make a noticeable difference? Unequivocally, yes. As I wrote last year, the Speyside (M) is bottled unfiltered with no additives, so it’s as pure an expression of the distillery as you’ll find. Pouring a beautiful, medium bronze color, it leads with a nose of more intensity and range than the 13 Year Old, especially in terms of the oloroso profile – dense dried fig and prune, along with notes of crushed walnuts, marzipan, and old leather chair. The 13 Year Old’s vanilla, biscuit, and orange zest components are there, with the added depth of cured Coppa pork tenderloin. Soda bread, treacle, and mulled potpourri round out a nuanced, wide-ranging aromatic profile. The palate is once again as graceful as can be. Like the 13 Year Old, it’s medium weight with no hard edges. It needs and wants nothing. Have it neat, and don’t think twice. Dried redcurrant plays against the fig and prune component, all with that pure malt goodness in the background alongside peppery accents and suggestions of nutmeg and walnut sawdust. The finish is deeper and more resonant than its more high-toned predecessor, with darker fruit, savory spice, and game. Is it similar to the 13 Year Old? Yes. It’s the same juice after all, but it’s also very much it’s own thing. The bottom line, as always, is that it’s still tough to beat unadulterated Macallan in first-fill oloroso, especially at this price.

2020 Rauzan-Segla (750ml)
Cabernet Sauvignon from Margaux, Bordeaux, France

The 2020 Rauzan-Ségla is showing brilliantly in bottle. Wafting from the glass with aromas of cassis and minty blackberries mingled with violets and licorice, it's medium to full-bodied, suave and seamless, with a deep core of vibrant fruit, beautifully refined tannins and a harmonious, integrated profile that exudes elegance. A wine of immense character and refinement, it's the best vintage from this estate in recent times.

98 points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate (Apr 2023)

The 2020 Château Rauzan-Ségla is pure Margaux brilliance, and this beautifully elegant wine embodies the best of the vintage. Revealing a deep ruby/purple hue as well as a great bouquet of blackcurrants, black cherries, lead pencil, sandalwood, smoked tobacco, and hints of incense, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a layered, seamless mouthfeel, integrated acidity, and a great finish. It offers pleasure today (although it closes down with extended air) but deserves 5-7 years of bottle age and will evolve for 30 years or more. This is clearly in the same league as the 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2019. Tasted on multiple occasions with consistent results.

98 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Mar 2023)

Juicy and lively fragrance on the nose – so perfumed and alluring. Delicate and pure on the palate, crystalline yet with such intensity. A rush of creamy tangy strawberries, herbal-edged raspberries and plum fruit lined with salty minerality gives the nuance and detail. It’s lightly framed with well integrated tannins that are fine and firm, tense just giving some tightness on the mid-palate, a sense of compactness, but then it opens again towards the finish. Cool and ethereal, this exudes charm and confidence. Extremely well made and totally seductive. I love the juiciness and sense of joyfulness, but it’s also beguiling as it deepens and grows in layers of chalk, slate, bramble fruits, perfume and florality. Another excellent wine from Rauzan with delicacy, detall and drinkability. Stunning.

98 points, Georgina Hindle, Decanter (Jan 2023)

The 2020 Rauzan-Ségla is a huge, explosive wine. Black cherry, plum, chocolate, licorice, smoke and incense are some of the many notes that infuse the 2020 with tremendous richness. With élevage, the 2020 has grown into a huge, brooding wine endowed with notable presence. There's great purity and class here. The 2020 is a powerful, brooding Rauzan-Ségla for readers who can be patient. Very patient. Tasted two times.

97 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Feb 2023)

A very polished red with blackberry, black olive, walnut, and crushed stone aromas that follow through to a medium to full body with polished, velvety tannins that go on for minutes. Surprisingly open and so attractive. Wonderful length to this. Needs four to five years to open. Best after 2026.

97 points, James Suckling (Nov 2023)

A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, and 1% Cabernet Franc, the 2020 Rauzan-Segla has a deep garnet-purple color. It charges out of the gate with energetic notes of fresh blackberries, cassis, and black cherries, leading to hints of clove oil, violets, and underbrush. The medium-bodied palate has a plush, fine-grained texture and seamless freshness supporting the classically styled flavors, finishing long and perfumed.

97 points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Independent (Mar 2024)

This wine has a fine structure, with dense tannins from the Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend. It is a full wine, the spicy character mingling with black currant flavors. The wine has an excellent future. Drink from 2027.

A lovely intense florality on the nose. Crunchy green apple and bright zesty lime on the palate with elements of brioche and lemon meringue pie.

94WA 94AK

The 2022 Vacqueyras les Restanques de Cabassole is a superb showing from this estate, delivering a powerful yet refined expression of Vacqueyras. A blend of 60% Grenache Noir, 30% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre grown on marl, clay and calcareous sand soils, it offers up a deeply aromatic bouquet of crushed violets, wild spices, Timut pepper and ripe black fruits. Full-bodied and layered, it’s built around a dense, fleshy core of fruit, framed by velvety tannins and energized by a bright spine of acidity. Despite its concentration, the wine never feels heavy, concluding with a saline, ethereal finish that speaks to its underlying finesse. This is a serious Vacqueyras with depth, drive and aging potential.

94+ points, Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate (Oct 2025)

Eyebrows raised all around when we tasted Eric Boutelin’s 2022 Restanques Vacqueyras. Cutting right to the chase, it’s a thoroughly complete expression of true Southern Rhône character, classic in every way. Reticent notes of hot stones, fine dried herbs, and deep, dark fruit line the bouquet, very captivating yet restrained, tinged by hot asphalt, peppery spices, and dried violets. The palate is a picture of precision, its exceptional weight carried by wonderfully balanced, assertive yet finessed tannins and pinpoint acidity. The flavors take some coaxing, but that same depth from the nose is there in spades. Brooding dark fruits, earthy soil tones, iron, wild game, and fine floral accents come in well-defined succession to a lasting finish. It’s obvious this wine has some serious evolution in store. It’s absolutely enjoyable now for its undeniably classic personality, but it will become truly exceptional after several years in the cellar, especially considering the price.

Offering up aromas of sweet mulberries and blackberries mingled with hints of licorice, violets and red fruit compote, the 2020 de Fieuzal is medium to full-bodied, rich and gourmand, its broad attack segueing into a supple, layered mid-palate that's framed by ripe acids and sweet, powdery tannins. This is a deeper, more powerful Fieuzal than its 2019 counterpart.

94 points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate (Apr 2023)

From a château that deserves more recognition in the market, the 2020 Château De Fieuzal is a brilliant Pessac- Léognan based on 65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Petit Verdot raised in 60% new barrels. It has a gorgeously pure nose of cassis, ripe black cherries, violets, spice, and scorched earth. This carries to a medium to full-bodied, seamless, layered wine with ripe tannins, plenty of mid-palate depth, and a great mix of richness and elegance. It deserves 4-5 years in the cellar and will drinking incredibly well over the following two decades.

94 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Mar 2023)

The Quinn family has delivered a serious wine in 2020, abrupt on the finish right now from the heavy structure but this is packed full of bristling fruit, plump and broad shouldered and will clearly age well. Floral aromatics on the close of play that add a violet lift and an expansion that is totally charming.

94 points, Jane Anson (Feb 2023)

Attractive aromas of ripe dark berries, sweet spices, nut shell, fine herbs and graphite. Full and opulent palate with an array of plush, fine-polished tannins which coat the mouth. Succulent dark fruit character beneath. Fresh, long-lasting and flavorful with a firm finish. Try after 2025.

93 points, James Suckling (May 2023)

Composed of 65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Petit Verdot, the 2020 de Fieuzal Rouge is deep garnet-purple in color. It wafts out with fragrant scents of dried flowers and fallen leaves over a core of plum preserves and warm cassis plus a touch of Chinese five spice. The medium to full-bodied palate offers bright acidity and a firm, grainy texture to support the muscular fruit, finishing with great length and energy.

"Terrin is a producer who nurtures the vine, seeking a concentrated and powerful style of the gravelly terroir." - Joaquin Hidalgo, Vinous

Spain's Toro region is one of the country's most dynamic, though it has long existed in the shadows of the more renowned Rioja and Ribera del Duero regions. But winemakers like Dominio del Bendito's Antony Terrin are making serious waves by harnessing the potential of the extremely stony soils, old vines, and trademark powerful Toro style, resulting in serious wines of substance and depth that are built for the cellar.

The 2021s are heavy hitters with serious press from Wine Advocate's Luis Gutiérrez, led by the 95-point, aptly named Titan del Bendito. Made from old, ungrafted plots, some dating to the 19th century, it "showcases the ripe and powerful style of the zone and the winery coupled with good freshness from a very complete and balanced year." Terrin intends this wine to be an ode to the great sophistication and age-worthiness of traditional Toro wines. Stylistically different, the 94-point Las Sabias is "full-bodied but balanced, with ripe fruit and tannins and integrated oak." From 45- to 80-year-old bush vines of Tinto del Toro, the Las Sabias is crafted to showcase a certain poise and freshness that Terrin believes is possible even in this warm-climate region.

Of course, there will always be ample space for Rioja and Ribero in the cellars of Spanish wine collectors, but with entries like these from Dominio del Bendito, the Toro region should be on everyone's radar.

2021 was a very good vintage for Dominio del Bendito, and the 2021 Las Sabias shows the freshness of the year with the ripe, concentrated, powerful house style. You don't really feel the 16.5% alcohol in this wine, and it comes through as full-bodied but balanced, with ripe fruit and tannins and integrated oak after spending 16 months in French oak barrels. It is finer-boned than other years. 16,190 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2023.

The big 2021 El Titan del Bendito showcases the ripe and powerful style of the zone and the winery coupled with good freshness from a very complete and balanced year. It's taken from different plots of old vines, some of them centenary, fermented in stainless steel and concrete vats and matured in French oak barrels for 20 to 22 months. It's not a shy wine (the house style is definitely big); it is full-bodied and ripe but carefully extracted and with generous spice from the long élevage. It has 16.5% alcohol, which (as usual) goes unnoticed. 9,913 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2023.

The 2016 de Fieuzal has a detailed, focused bouquet, wonderfully focused and precise, featuring blackberry, cedar and black olive scents. There is a sense of classicism and class here. The medium-bodied palate offers supple tannins, perfectly pitched acidity and a harmonious, tertiary finish that lingers long in the mouth. This is an outstanding Pessac-Léognan that, before its identity was revealed, I speculated could be Domaine de Chevalier. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

94 points, Neal Martin, Vinous (Aug 2020)

Very intense red-plum and dark-fleshed peach aromas, plus a hint of pomegranate, make this generous, well-structured Pessac-Léognan red very attractive. However, the full, moderately dry tannins need some time to resolve. Better from 2021, but with a long future ahead of it.

94 points, James Suckling (Jan 2019)

The 2016 de Fieuzal Rouge is deep garnet in color. It comes barreling out with bold scents of blackcurrant preserves, stewed plums, and boysenberries, plus suggestions of wild sage and tar. The medium-bodied palate is packed with taut, muscular fruit, supported by ripe, grainy tannins and compelling freshness, finishing long with a skip in its step.

Deep rose-violet colour, showing how easily anthocyanins were extracted this year. This is a lovely rich, well extracted, intense wine of succulent black cherry and damson fruits coupled with cigar box scents. It has this stunning balance and 'essence of Bordeaux' spirit that Pessac delivers so well in its best vintages.

2023 Domaine Gadais Les Perrieres Muscadet Monopole (750ml)

94JG 93AK 92JS

The 2023 Muscadet “les Perrières” from Domaine Gadais is only produced in top flight vintages, with the wine barrel-fermented with indigenous yeasts in old casks and aged in these vessels for eighteen months, prior to bottling. This is an excellent terroir, but by the Gadais family’s lofty standards, these are not particularly old vines, as they are just nearing fifty years of age. The 2023 Muscadet “les Perrières” delivers a superb and gently oaky bouquet of breadfruit, a touch of apple, a lovely leesy whirl that is gently nutty, a complex base of soil, dried flowers and a discreet framing of vanillin oak from the older barrels. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and zesty, with a great core of fruit, fine soil undertow, lovely focus and balance and a long, gently oaky finish. While the bit of oak here is hardly classic in style, it works brilliantly and this is one delicious glass of wine.

94 points, John Gilman, View From The Cellar (Aug 2025)

This domaine seemingly can do no wrong. The 2023 Les Perrieres Monopole, from a “young” plot of 50-year-old vines, is another superb effort from Gadais. Quite closed at first on the nose, it gradually opens to reveal bracing, terroir-driven minerality of crushed stones and ocean brine, which gives way to concentrated lemon essence, a very subtle honey note, lemon verbena, and a faint trace of mint, all supported by a gentle, precise sur lie undertone. Much racier and more mineral than the Peninsula on the palate, its measured sur lie quality, medium weight and excellent balance support flavors of lemon zest, white lilies, vibrant oyster shell, soft exotic spices from the barrel fermentation, lemon verbena, and fresh basil. Like all the Gadais wines, it’s a benchmark Muscadet that can cruise for a long time in the cellar, but I wouldn’t blame anyone for getting into it now, as it’s so incredibly expressive.

As Barolo gains more and more attention on the global stage, it's more and more difficult to find producers who can still reasonably be considered under the radar. But on the outskirts of Serralunga d'Alba, there sites Giovanni Rosso, an estate that has been farming some of the communes best sites, including Vignarionda, since 1906. The estate is now under the direction of Giovanni's son Davide Rosso, whose expertly crafted Barolos straddle the line between old and new schools, a characteristic which is plainly evident in the single-cru expressions as well as this superb 2019 Barolo del Commune.

"It's radiant, racy, elegantly structured and just loaded with youthful tension and energy, all tempered by great finesse." - Kerin O'Keefe

A blend of the estate's vineyards within the Serralunga d'Alba delimitation, including Serra and Ceretta, the 2019 is a showpiece of terroir and class, thanks in large measure to Davide's gentle, even-handed winemaking. Aging in large oak botti allows the juice to fully compose itself while not asserting the influence of the wood at the expense of the terroir, resulting in this "lively and multifaceted" standout that received 96 and 95 points from Kerin O'Keefe and Wine Spectator, respectively. If you're someone who can't delay gratification, have no worries, as the 2019 is already singing in beautiful fashion, but make no mistake – it's set for a decade-plus of evolution in the cellar with much more held in reserve for those with patience.

This is a thoroughbred Margaux, for sure, possessing amazing power in a very sleek, sophisticated package. Give it 5-7 years in bottle to unlock all those earth, floral and mineral nuances and drink it over the next 40 years or more.

The big (in all aspects) 2019 La Cuesta de las Musas is a powerful expression of a vineyard with two parts, one planted 60 years ago and the other one over 100 years ago, both on sandy and limestone soils. This is carefully crafted, produced in an artisanal way on a small scale, and matured in French oak barrels for 22 months. It's ripe, concentrated and powerful, with 16% alcohol, from slow-ripening grapes that developed fully, so it has great complexity of aromas and flavors, still marked by the élevage in wood. 1,263 bottles were filled in June 2021. It's aging at a glacial pace. It feels very young and has the balance and the stuffing to develop in bottle for a long time.

I couldn't believe it when I turned the bottle of the 2023 El Primer Paso and the back label read 16% alcohol! The wine has the ripe and powerful house style but also has the balance and harmony of these big and powerful wines that have clout and pungent flavors and show the rusticity of the place where they are born. This is youngish, matured for around six months in oak barrels.

2008 Domaine du Tertre Vintage Calvados (750ml)
From Calvados, Lower Normandy, France
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

We've had a noticeable jump in Calvados interest in the past several months, and today's offer on an elusive 2008 vintage expression should kick that into another gear. Domaine du Tertre isn't on everyone's radar, but they should be. Our own Andrew Kitz declares, "This Calvados micro-domaine should be next up on the list of anyone who’s serious about top-tier artisanal spirits of any kind." They only make a single vintage bottling each year, and it's released at either 15 or 20 years old, depending on how it develops in elevage. We'll cut right to the chase. This current-release 2008 is:

"...a singular spirit of mind-blowing character." - Andrew Kitz, B-21 Spirits Buyer

Planted to approximately 600 trees of 40 different varietals, Domaine du Tertre's artisan approach begins in the orchard. The domaine's main product is cider, which forms the base for their utterly stellar vintage Calvados. Distilled once a year in September, the additive-free new make is left to age at a full 70% ABV in oak sourced from Perche and Cognac, where a natural reduction of alcohol occurs at approximately 3% per year. The astounding finished product is bottled at a natural cask strength with no proofing down. From a "super complex" aromatic profile to an "unbelievably graceful palate," from a "foundation of beautiful minerality" to a "lifted, seemingly endless finish," this is a truly spectacular expression of Calvados that every serious spirits fan should taste at least once. There's no other way to put it.

This Calvados micro-domaine should be next up on the list of anyone who’s serious about top-tier artisanal spirits of any kind. They only produce one Calvados per vintage, and they release it based readiness at either 15 years old or 20 years old, so we’re talking about very small, limited quantities here, especially when we don’t know when the next vintage will be ready. Crated from very old, low-yielding trees of multiple apple varietals, this a singular spirit of mind-blowing character. Brief heat on the nose gives way to deep, overripe apples, spiced pecans, apple butter, new leather, pear blossom, and pure vanilla pod. It’s hard to overstate how super complex this aromatic profile is. The fruit is opulent to the perfect degree, and the initial notes segue into gorgeous exotic spices, pomegranate, maraschino cherry, balsam wood, red plum, and jellyroll filling. The unbelievably graceful palate is itself very complex, with a foundation of beautiful minerality along with very ripe tree fruit, cardamom, and high-toned floral blossoms. It shows excellent texture and medium weight with secondary nuances of balsam wood and assertive spices such as cinnamon and clove, all leading to touches of dark berry fruit and menthol on the lifted, seemingly endless finish. I don’t often pine for more of anything I try, but I was actually quite sad when I finished this sample.

2023 Favia Cabernet Sauvignon Napa (750ml)
Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa, California
B-21 Top Recommendation

Favia has been a Napa insider's favorite since its debut in 2003 – after all it combines the lauded talents of viticulturalist Annie Favia and her husband, multiple 100-point winemaker Andy Erickson. That alone speaks volumes to the quality being achieved at this boutique gem of an estate, but when you factor in prime Oakville vineyards next door to Opus One, you're looking at some of the most pedigreed, expertly crafted Cabernets in the Napa collectible scene. As Antonio Galloni writes, "There are a lot of top-tier estates in Napa Valley. In that context, Favia stands out with unique, distinctive wines that brim with character," and that's fully evident in their flagship, double 98-point 2023 Napa Valley Cabernet.

"Strong but elegant and long. Floral, scented and peppery - this has Andy and Annie's fingerprints on it and I love it." - Georgina Hindle, Decanter

The 2023 sees almost equal portions of Coombsville and Oakville fruit, which "represents the best of both appellations—the fresh, savory, mineral edge of the former intertwining with the deep flavor and floral lift of the latter" according to James Suckling's 98-point review. The quality of the fruit sources is undeniable, and Erickson's Meidas touch puts the coda on an absolutely stunning representation of this heralded Napa vintage. This is neither modern nor old-school in style, but instead is a distinctly unique expression that can only come from this dynamic estate and its visionary owners, all for a truly jaw-dropping price that's only available to our private clients.

In a new beginning for Favia, an equal blend of Coombsville and Oakville represents the best of both appellations—the fresh, savory, mineral edge of the former intertwining with the deep flavor and floral lift of the latter. Layers of fruit, supported by graphite, dried herbs, flowers and spices, lead to a luscious yet refined palate with finely tuned tannins and a bright line of acidity. A complete, balanced expression of Napa. 75% cabernet sauvignon, 21% cabernet franc and 4% petit verdot. Excellent. Drink or hold.

98 points, James Suckling (Dec 2025)

A brand new wine from Annie Favia and Andy Erickson with mainly Oakville fruit from next to Opus One. Gorgeous aromatics on the nose, black chocolate, ripe blackcurrants. Supple and alive, this has energy from the get go, a tangy undercurrent of acidity that really enlivens the senses with cherry, cranberry and plum. Total finesse, lots of flavour but so seamless and integrated with tannins that give structure and hold your attention but don't overwhelm in any way. Strong but elegant and long. Floral, scented and peppery - this has Andy and Annie's fingerprints on it and I love it. Such a juicy, smile-inducing finish too with a salty, blood iron and orange rind tang. Gorgeous.

98 points, Georgina Hindle, Decanter (Feb 2026)

Intense, tangible crushed raspberry and cassis puree, capturing texture and flavour, concentrated and powerful yet with a salted caramel lick and a gentle pacing that steps carefully through the palate. Great stuff. Natural yeasts, low intervention, no filtering or fining. This year it is the first time to be almost entirely Oakville vines, now in co-ownership between the Heeneus family with Annie Favia and Andy Erickson.

96 points, Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast (Apr 2023)

Edge of smoked and salted caramel, along with blackberry, cassis, bilberry, liquourice root, incense, giving depth and character. Elegant, satiny tannins, very much an architecture that makes you stop and appreciate the craftsmanship that has put it all together. Second time tasting this frshly-released vintage in recent weeks, and it's one to savour. 3.74, 60% new oak, harvest September 8 to 29. Nicolas Audbert director, Eric Boissenot consultant.
