The wine is/was great! B‑21 lets you know the rating (and the prices which are usually great) so you know what you are getting. I also try to order on a free shipping day. This time it made me a little nervous since the wine box was 10 or so hours late. But it got here, which is what counts (all bottles intact). A local G‑Store has wine sales for 25% off but rarely have wine as good as B‑21's

2023 Vina Almaviva (750ml)
Cabernet Sauvignon from Puente Alto, Chile
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

The joint venture between Barons de Rothschild and Concha y Toro is firmly ensconced in the elite ranks of South American cult collectibles, with each year's new release eagerly awaited by fans, and today is the day. The 2023 Almaviva hits the market with all the critical fanfare that has accompanied previous vintages, and it's another signature stunner from this world-class estate.

"Exceptionally well-crafted for the vintage, the 2023 once again secures its place among the top wines of Puente Alto." - Joaquin Hidalgo, Vinous

The blend in 2023 is once again dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, but Chile's famed Carmenere adds no shortage of aromatic character to the final wine, giving it a hallmark sense of place that Almaviva fans crave. A 97-point score from James Sucklng leads the press, but big numbers from Vinous, Wine Advocate, Decanter, and more all confirm the 2023 as a monumental effort that collectors will love to have in their cellars. "Classy and captivating," this is New World blending in its highest art form with pure, polished fruit and loads of secondary nuance and complexity already. Whether you're building a vertical or you're branching out in your search for top-tier cellar thoroughbreds, the 2023 Almaviva is a sure bet to perform at the highest level.

97JS 96V 96D 95WA 95JA

A refined wine showing lovely fruit with less verticality than the 2022, but here the magic is the roundness and smoothness, which is really poised. Subtle cedar, tobacco, olives and paprika on the nose. Sweet berries and fruit on the palate, with a medium to full body and a long, nuanced finish. More precise in terms of tannins this year, with immediate approachability. 74% cabernet sauvignon, 19% carmenere, 5% cabernet franc and 2% petit verdot. 73% new oak and the rest is second use. Drink from 2026.

97 points, Zekun Shuai, James Suckling (Apr 2025)

The 2023 Blend Almaviva is composed of 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Carménère, 5% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Sourced from a warm, dry vintage, this reflects the character of the year, though the winery has managed it with notable finesse. The nose delivers aromas of lavender, violet and blood orange, followed by hints of plum, blackberry and soft spices. Generous and juicy on the palate, this offers enveloping volume, fine-grained tannins and a fresh, sustained finish. Exceptionally well-crafted for the vintage, the 2023 once again secures its place among the top wines of Puente Alto.

96 points, Joaquín Hidalgo, Vinous (Jun 2025)

Rich and heady nose, some bell pepper aromatics with blackcurrant and milk chocolate, black pepper and floral scents. Glossy and thick, lots of flesh and power here with juicy black fruit. Great concentration but refined and focussed. There’s no shortage of power and precision - vertical and layered with mint, aniseed, menthol aspects, minerality and black fruit. Velvety but packing a punch. Give this a good few years but the structure and finesse is there. Classy and captivating - and mouthwateringly moreish. 3% Merlot completes the blend. A joint venture between Baron Philippe de Rothschild and Viña Concha y Toro. Director Manuel Louzada, winemaker Michel Friou.

96 points, Georgina Hindle, Decanter (Jul 2025)

The 2023 Almaviva aromatically leads with its Carménère component in this vintage, featuring typical merkén spice notes blended with gravel dust, dried herbs and anise aromas, all set against a bright, red-fruited core. The palate is lush and velvety but supported by a lively, tensile spine, leading to a refined, sturdy finish that emphasizes lush fruit flavors, polished tannins and an oak-derived backdrop. This is a decidedly fruit-driven yet still elegant expression of Almaviva, and its one that will be accessible in its youth as more structured vintages continue to mature in the cellar. This blend of 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Carménère, 5% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot matured for 20 months in 73% new French oak.

95 points, Matthew Luczy, Wine Advocate (Aug 2025)

Sandalwood, cedar and vanilla kick on the opening aromatics, with fennel, spiced plum, blueberry and salted cracker salinity on the finish, 70% new oak for ageing. Rothschild & Concha Y Toro joint partnership for this Maipo Valley estate, Manuel Louzada director, Michel Friou winemaker. Tasted twice.

2023 Turnbull Wine Cellars Napa Estate Cabernet Sauvignon (750ml)
Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa, California
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

If you're a fan of Napa Cabernet or simply just a casual consumer and observer of the market, you've no doubt noticed that the category has seen an explosion of prices in recent years, to the point where it's hard to imagine the words value and Napa Cabernet in the same universe, let alone the same sentence. Well, think again, because today's selection brings us a quartet of overperforming standouts that are still priced well within reach of a broad audience of wine lovers and collectors.

Leading off, the 2021 Whitehall Lane Cabernet boasts a slew of solid accolades across the board. This sub-$40 gem from a long-time standard bearer of QPR excellence is "an outstanding Cabernet" according Jeb Dunnuck, "silky and supple, easy to drink, yet with enough structure." Joining Whitehall in the sub-$40 category is Turnbull's "positively stellar" 2023 Estate Cab. This wine has been one of the most consistent values in Napa for years, and the excellent 2023 vintage produced another show-stopper to the tune of 93 points from Dunnuck. Wine Advocate's Joe Czerwinski calls it "a super value and the rare modern-day Napa Cab under $100 that shows potential for further aging."

The 2021 Sullivan Coeur de Vignes is a true classic from a historic Napa property at a smashing bargain price. "Ripe and structured but fresh in feel ... Very Rutherford" according to Wine Spectator's 94-point review. While their flagship bottlings carry price tags well into the triple digits, the 2021 Coeur de Vigne offers a chance to experience top-class Napa style and character for a small fraction of the price. Finally, the iconic Chappellet estate has hit a homerun with their 2021 Signature Cabernet, a 96-point "marvellously compact and coiled-up wine with a towering structure" that Jeb Dunnuck calls "brilliant" and for about one-fifth the price of the 99-point Pritchard Hill bottling.

With the quality and value on offer in this quartet, now is the perfect chance to rediscover these treasured wines without breaking the bank.

93D 92JS 91WA 91V

The appellation blend from this notable estate, the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley checks in as 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot, 3% Merlot, and the balance Cabernet Franc. Deep purple-hued, it offers beautifully pure aromatics of crème de cassis, graphite, crushed stone and violets. I love its overall purity, it's medium to full-bodied, has a layered, fresh, focused mouthfeel, and enough tannins to keep it drinking nicely for 10-15 years if well stored. Drink 2025-2038.

93 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Dec 2025)

Blackberries, cassis, cedar and tobacco on the nose. The palate is full-bodied with fine tannins and balanced acidity, giving notes of dark plums, black currants and spices. Textural and fresh. Drink or hold.

92 points, James Suckling (Sep 2025)

Turnbull's blended 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon is a super value and the rare modern-day Napa Cab under $100 that shows potential for further aging. A blend of 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot, 3% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc, it offers gently leafy notes, plus cedar, cherries and vanilla. Full-bodied, it's firm and reasonably tannic, with ample structure and a long finish.

91+ points, Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate (Oct 2025)

The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is positively stellar. Plump, juicy and inviting, the Napa Valley Cabernet is a total delight. Succulent red cherry, plum, cinnamon, new leather and mocha are front and center. Best of all, Turnbull's Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a stellar value and a crowd-pleaser, too.

"An exceptional range throughout that shows this Meursault reference-point in a brilliant light." - Andrew Kitz, B-21 Burgundy Buyer

This iconic Meursault domaine, spearheaded by the legendary Pierre Matrot, is now in its third generation under Pierre's granddaughters Elsa and Adele, who are shepherding it into a thrilling new era, as our Burgundy team discovered last spring during their visit.

The sisters have undertaken a subtle yet remarkable transformation of the domaine's style, moving away from the more solidly built, heavily oaked wines of their father, Thierry, and toward a more nuanced expression of terroir signature with very judicious use of the barrel. The results are vividly compelling wines that convey the domaine's prized holdings in crystal-clear fashion. The 2023 vintage favored Chardonnay in the Côte de Beaune, and Matrot's wines also capture the balanced brilliance of the vintage perfectly.

The treasured 1ers crus of Puligny Combettes and Meursault Perrieres surely turned out some absolutely thrilling renditions in 2023, the former "super-sleek, delicious, and appealingly tension-filled" and the latter showing 95-point potential according to both Martin and Morris for its "cool, pure and beautifully layered" personality. The sleeper star, however, is the "marvelous" Puligny 1er Cru Chalumeaux, showing 96-point potential from Morris.

It's great to see such an iconic domaine showing this level of potential and promise as it enters a new era, and based on what we saw from them earlier this year, Matrot's best days may yet be ahead of us.

94JM 93BH 92V

A little fuller in yellow fruit. This has additional body over and above the Chalumeaux, but it comes more in a single block of flavour. Adequate acidity behind and good length. Fills the mouth more than seduces. Note that the Combettes has not been racked yet, and might well be showing better since. Drink from 2028-2033. Tasted Oct 2024.

91-94 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy (Jan 2025)

A deft application of wood sets off the even more elegant and equally pure aromas of exceptionally floral-suffused aromas of acacia and lilac, along with citrus, apple and spice hints. The super-sleek, delicious and appealingly tension-filled flavors possess a positively gorgeous texture while exuding a decidedly subtle bead of minerality on the balanced, long and youthfully austere finale. This too could use better depth so at least a few years of cellaring are recommended. *Outstanding*

90-93 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound (Jun 2025)

The 2023 Puligny-Montrachet La Combette 1er Cru, which was taken from barrel and due to be racked in a month, has an austere bouquet at first, but there is a lovely stoniness with touches of green apple and undergrowth. Still, as you would expect, everything feels buttoned down for now. The palate is well balanced with pure yellow fruit, nectarine and light spicy notes. The 2023 is quite elegant in style with more persistence than the Chalumaux, though perhaps it lacks a bit of grip.

Mid lemon yellow, riper and sunnier but in a pleasingly floral idiom. I love the balance to this and there is a fine thread of acidity which really sets this apart, and a lovely little citrus tint to the fresh yet ripe apples. Grapes from the young vines caught the sun, did not make the cut and were sold off. What they bottled is marvellous though! Drink from 2028-2035. Tasted Oct 2024.

93-96 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy (Jan 2025)

The 2023 Puligny Chalumaux 1er Cru has a lovely bouquet with touches of chalk dust, light apple blossom scents, fine delineation and a little more concentration than the Garenne. The palate is well balanced, fresh and saline with a bright bead of acidity and a pretty, lightly spiced finish. Charming.

91-93 points, Neal Martin, Vinous (Jan 2025)

An airy and pretty combination blends notes of various white orchard fruit, especially pear and Granny Smith apple, with those of spice and citrus wisps. The rich and solidly voluminous flavors possess a fleshy mouthfeel before concluding in a clean and dry finish that could also use better depth. I like the balance and this should progressively develop better complexity if given a chance. *Outstanding*

The 2023 Meursault Les Chevalières, which used to be sold exclusively in the US, is a level up from the Village, with a lovely mineralité underlying dried honey and light lemon verbena scents. The palate is well balanced with a fine line of acidity, more tension than the Meursault Village and a delineated, quite vibrant finish. Excellent.

91-93 points, Neal Martin, Vinous (Jan 2025)

Slightly fuller in colour, with a small gunflint component to what is otherwise a slightly riper nose. Fine intensity, with some ripe grapefruit citrus, you can see the hillside style, but I might prefer the regular. Little stones pervade the back palate. Drink from 2027-2031. Tasted Oct 2024.

The 2023 Meursault Les Perrières 1er Cru was also taken from barrel. There is clearly more intensity on the nose, as a lovely reduction gives it energy and another dimension. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity and a long tail on the finish, the mineralité intact after the growing season.

Superb. 93-95 points, Neal Martin, Vinous (Jan 2025)

Mid lemon yellow. A touch of honeyed melon sitting on top of the more classic white fruit, but not distracting from the core of this immensely concentrated fruit, with a little bit of salinity to finish. Adequate acidity. There is plenty going on and still very youthful – not racked yet. Drink from 2030-2037. Tasted Oct 2024.

92-95 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy (Jan 2025)

Prominent aromas of mineral reduction, petrol and smoke surround the cool, pure and beautifully layered aromas of anise, jasmine tea and citrus zest. The racy, delicious and solidly concentrated middle weight flavors possess an even more sophisticated texture while displaying first-rate length on the balanced and slightly more austere finale. This is markedly compact at present and a wine that's going to need at least mid-term keeping. *Sweet Spot, Outstanding*

A clear fresh colour, with a thoroughly energetic bouquet that is still classical Charmes. Excellent in the mouth too, very pure white fruit, good acidity, many layers to this and fine persistence. A fine expression of the vineyard and showing that 2023 does not lack concentration. As per the Chalumeaux, the grapes from the young vines suffered in the heat and were sold off. Racked, as all the whites were, in early September, and still a fraction cloudy. A very light gunflint but more it is the white fruit to the fore, especially on the palate. Some citrus at the back to maintain freshness, and the fruit keeps kicking on during an extended finish. Leaves a fine aftertaste. Drink from 2027-2031. Tasted Oct 2024.

"...one of the better values in all of California wine." - Matthew Luczy, Wine Advocate

The long-awaited new release of this all-time B-21 best seller is here. Stolpman's La Cuadrilla has been a bona fide value champion for us for several vintages running, and it's basically cornered our market on sub-$20 California reds.

A blend of Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Sangiovese, this spectacular, "lights out" favorite has always brought its A-game big time, and that all continues apace in 2023. "Bright, punchy and full of character, the 2023 delivers superb quality and striking purity of fruit," notes Antonio Galloni. Made every year by the estate's vineyard workers, who then split the proceeds from sales, this is a true wine of community and collective effort and reward.

There's not much else to say – if you're already fan, then make some room and stock up like you always do. The 2023 La Cuadrilla is ready to rock with stunning character and unbeatable value, just like it always has.

A blend of Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Sangiovese whose proceeds are divided among Stolpman's vineyard workers, the 2023 La Cuadrilla is one of the better values in all California wine. It opens with a beautifully floral, energetic nose supplemented with focused, leathery accents. The palate is plush and succulent, concluding with a quenching, juicy and simply delicious finish framed by fine-grained tannins.

92 points, Matthew Luczy, Wine Advocate (Oct 2024)

The 2023 La Cuadrilla is a fabulous entry-level offering. Bright, punchy and full of character, the 2023 delivers superb quality and striking purity of fruit. It’s also a fabulous value. This blend of Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Sangiovese is lights-out.

92 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Aug 2024)

This vineyard crew-led blend is always a charmer. The blend of 50% Syrah, 20% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre and 15% Sangiovese offers dark cherry, berry and cigar box aromas on the nose. The palate lands with ripe fruit and toasty flavors, floating atop young, sticky tannins and a zippy acidity.

A fresh-tasting, juicy blend from the Stolpman property that's full-bodied, ripe and easy to drink. So affordable. Mild tannins and lots of freshness make it almost gulpable. Contains syrah, grenache, mourvedre and sangiovese. Drink now.

Aromas of passion fruit, lime zest and grapefruit. The palate is light- to medium-bodied with a creamy texture an bright acidity, giving flavors of green melon, papayas and lemon curd. Fresh and generous. Drink now.

The 2023 Sauvignon Blanc originates from Gamble Ranch (Oakville) and Bear Flats (Calistoga). Fermented and aged in a mix of older oak (56%) and stainless steel (44%), it's highly aromatic, with passion fruit, gooseberries and nectarines all evident on the nose. In the mouth, it's medium to full-bodied, plump, expansive and generous. There's plenty of flavor, culminating in a long, citrusy finish.

2023 Schiopetto Collio Sauvignon (750ml)
Sauvignon Blanc from Friuli Venezia Giulia, Veneto, Italy
B-21 Top Recommendation

We've taken tremendous pleasure in watching our direct-import relationship with Schiopetto take off, since these are unquestionably some of the most incisive, harmonious, and scintillating Italian white wines out there. Indeed, as Kerin O'Keefe contends, they prove without a doubt that Italy's white wines can reach a level of serious expression to rival many others in the Old World.

Several vintages in a row have gotten our B-21 customers acquainted with this range and built up quite a following, and we're happy to report that after a recent tasting of the latest releases, there are even more stunning offerings on tap in the coming months, starting with the 95-point 2023 Friulano. James Suckling describes it as "very minerally and smoky ... medium- to full-bodied, tangy and energetic," while Wine Advocate's Monica Larner found "classic layers of Golden Delicious apple, quince and mineral tones." We were similarly struck with the head-turning, perfumed aromatics, the surprisingly complex and charming flavors, and the lip-smacking finish.

Another 95-point varietal benchmark is the 2023 Pinot Bianco. While the grape often gets shorted in reputation and renown, it can nonetheless produce incredibly compelling wines in the right hands. Schiopetto's 2023 is "full and layered with lovely density and freshness" according to James Suckling, with purity and depth to spare.

These are just the highlights, but if you're already a fan of Schiopetto, you'll no doubt be making room in the cellar for the whole range, and if you haven't yet tried them, this is a can't-miss opportunity to add a truly world-class estate to your repertoire.

2023 Roucas Toumba Vacqueyras La Grande Terre (750ml)
Grenache from Vacqueyras, Rhône, France
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

We've been searching high and low for a top-notch Vacqueyras domaine to add to our direct-import stable, and last October we got more than we bargained for from Eric Boutelin's Roucas Toumba estate. The domaine is not nearly as well-known as it should be, given that he has some of the Vacqueyras appellation's most pristine, old-vine parcels and employs incredibly meticulous winemaking practices to give his vines their absolute best expression, resulting in what Wine Advocate's Yohan Castaing calls "some of the appellation’s most authentic and terroir-driven wines." After tasting through the latest releases, we couldn't agree more.

"The 2022 Vacqueyras les Restanques de Cabassole is a superb showing from this estate ... This is a serious Vacqueyras with depth, drive and aging potential." - Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate

The entire range is top-tier, and the 2022 Restanques de Cabassole is a true revelation of the absolute heights that Vacqueyras can reach and an absolutely showstopping effort that puts the appellation on another level altogether, notching 94+ points from Wine Advocate. B-21 Rhône Buyer Andrew Kitz calls it "a thoroughly complete expression of true Southern Rhône character, classic in every way."

"The purity and precision here are impressive, and the long, focused finish underscores its potential. This is a superb Vacqueyras..." - Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate

The 93-point 2023 La Grande Terre, another old-vine Grenache-based gem that's done entirely in concrete, which gives the wine absolutely stunning purity of fruit with "supple and enveloping" textural precision. Where the Restanques certainly needs time in the cellar to show all its cards, the Grande Terre is a thrilling preview that is accessible now, with the substance and craftsmanship to develop its own mesmerizing nuances over time, as well.

Vacqueyras has long lived in the shadow of Gigondas, but with efforts like these from Eric Boutelin, we're extremely excited to showcase the rising tide of quality in this excellent but overlooked appellation. There's no question that Boutelin's star is rising, and we're thrilled to add him to our direct-import portfolio, with two of the sharpest Rhône buys we've seen all year.

93WA

A compelling effort from this address, the 2023 Vacqueyras la Grande Terre is a beautifully composed Vacqueyras crafted from 60% old-vine Grenache Noir grown on galets roulés, 20% Mourvèdre planted on yellow clay and 20% Syrah rooted in blue marl. Aged and vinified entirely in concrete, it jumps from the glass with a perfumed bouquet of ripe black cherries, wild berries, crushed violets, rose petals and hints of lilac. Medium- to full-bodied, it’s supple and enveloping, with a layered core of fruit and velvety tannins that build across the palate. The purity and precision here are impressive, and the long, focused finish underscores its potential. This is a superb Vacqueyras that should drink well on release and evolve gracefully for a decade or more.

Wines like this one are what make it fun to be a wine drinker. Not a wine collector, not a wine connoisseur, but a wine drinker. First off, the 2023 is a classic showcase of what sets Alexander Valley apart from the rest of California when it comes to Cabernet. Plush, red fruits form the wine's identity, while the dusty but gentle tannins, a signature of the AVA, offer a pleasantly balanced foundation that makes this overachieving value star a perfect match for any weeknight occasion or crowded get-together. "Wilhelm Weil presented a stunning 2023 vintage–hair-raising even. The dry Rieslings are utterly clear and brilliant while brimming with fruit. The off-dry and sweet wines have electric, spectacular acidity, giving them even more definition than usual, heightening every nuance of flavor and assuring longevity." - Anne Krebiehl MW, Vinous

Weingut Robert Weil is one of the top three undisputed reference-points for the Rheingau, and we're not surprised to see them turn in some of the most acclaimed wines of the vintage throughout their entire range. Of course the entry-level wines are top-tier performers in their categories, as seen in the 94-point Rheingau Kabinett and the JS92 Estate Trocken.

The Grafenberg vineyard is the crown jewel and easily one of the greatest Riesling sites in the world, with deep slate soils over mica-quarz phyllite bedrock, so the wines are always inclined toward exuberant fruit and firm mineral backbone, along with generous yet precise textures, no matter the style being made. In 2023, the site shines on every level, starting with the 98-point 2023 Grafenberg Grosses Gewächs, which Wine Advocate's Stephan Reinhardt calls "a dense, powerful and majestic yet also finessed Gräfenberg" that exemplifies how majestic dry Riesling can be. Moving to the prädikat wines, the double 97-point 2023 Grafenberg Spätlese is "simply exquisite, simply beautiful, thrilling and oh so pure ... a glorious wine" per Anne Krebiehl, while Stuart Pigott dubs it "a giant Spätlese, but in terms of depth and expression, not in sheer volume or density."

The 2023 Auslesen are on another level altogether and represent some of the best wines of the vintage, anywhere. The double 99-point 2023 Grafenberg Auslese is "a glorious wine of utter purity, brilliance, concentration and incredible lightness ... a Riesling that will outlast us all." The ne plus ultra, however, is the 2023 Grafenberg Trockenbeerenauslese. It will undoubtedly stand as a generational wine at the pinnacle of its category, with multiple 100-point scores already and near perfection from others. "An elixir of the utmost purity-a superlative," it's a nearly immortal creation, "highly finessed yet not made for this life or the next ... [but] for the future that is not ours anymore," as Reinhardt so poetically puts it.

You don't have to be a German wine fan to understand the specific greatness on offer in this set. If you're a collector of the world's greatest long-term cellar propositions, period, then every one of these spectacular treasures should be on your shortlist.

The 2023 Riesling Rheingau Kabinett was picked in the Kiedricher Wasseros and made from whole-bunch-pressed juice. Weil emphasizes that they want "restricted" sugar levels of around 35 g/L with "hearty" acidity. The nose is a vivid and enticing mix of pineapple and lime, still swinging with a touch of yeast, aromatic and tangy. The palate brims with juicy sweetness, dances with light and agile steps and delivers what we want from a Kabinett—ease and joy. The entire experience is scented with lemon balm and summer blossom. Simply lovely. (Off-dry)

94 points, Anne Krebiehl, Vinous (Oct 2024)

Wonderful floral, nectarine and mandarin orange aromas pour from the glass. Simultaneously juicy and sleek on the barely medium-bodied palate, this is so vivid and charming, but also has stacks of mineral freshness in the long, orangey finish. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

93 points, Stuart Pigott, James Suckling (Mar 2024)

No ordinary Rheingau Kabinett, this Riesling comes from cooler, higher-elevation parcels adjacent to the estate’s classified single-vineyard sites and fruit from pre-selections in the top estate sites. A delicately balanced Kabinett, this Weil bottling offers sweet peach and ripe pineapple aromatics lifted by a sea breeze. The palate is gloriously dialled in as sweet, ripe pineapple dances effortlessly with a saline minerality and crushed wet stone.

The 2022 Riesling Kiedricher Gräfenberg Trockenbeerenauslese was made from grapes raisined by botrytis but without spores. Amber-gold in the glass, it sprays with candied lemon and golden blossom honey. The palate has immense sweetness and thrill, with that candied lemon intensity driven to the extreme reaches of aroma, brightness, freshness and richness. Scented with citric essence and lusciously concentrated, it is defined by full-flavored sweetness. The very purity of this wine is astonishing, memorable and so intense. Even a tiny drop radiates with citrus flavor. This is an elixir of the utmost purity—a superlative. More than 14g/L of acidity (!) stands against 300g/L. (Luscious)

100 points, Anne Krebiehl, Vinous (Oct 2024)

This unbelievable riesling TBA is the essence of dried apricots, mangoes and papayas, and it could hardly be more concentrated. It also has a truly extraordinary acidity, and this makes it as bright as any diamond that I’ve ever seen. This unique expression of Rheingau riesling is a monumental wine, also monumental in freshness. It also has almost none of the mushroom character that these wines usually have in their youth. If you like vibrant acidity you could drink it now, but I recommend as much patience as you can muster. Extremely limited production from organically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but best from 2030.

100 points, Stuart Pigott, James Suckling (Aug 2024)

The 2023 Kiedrich Gräfenberg Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese displays a golden-yellow color with lime-green reflections, and it exhibits beautifully pure, perfectly ripe and concentrated tropical fruit aromas intermingled with notes of white nougat, salts and nuances of slate. Rich but highly refined and very elegant on the palate, this is a playful saline and even refined TBA with enormous density and concentration that doesn't keep out the acidity, which is fine but a laser by nature. This is highly finessed yet not made for this life or the next. It's a fantastic TBA, though its concentration and fine but cutting acidity is an assurance for the future that is not ours anymore. 8% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in August 2024.

99 points, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate (Oct 2024)

A glorious, sweet nectar of the Gods from the legendary Gräfenberg site. It's here that Robert Weil has been coaxing glorious sweet wines from its steep slopes since a legendary wine presented from the 1893 vintage wowed the German aristocracy. Stunning in its delicacy, aromas of acacia honey, toasted marshmallows and sweet peach candies. Each fully raisinated and botrytised berry was hand-selected from the intensely steep Gräfenberg site, up to 60%. The warm growing season saw late rains, and the TBA and BA wines achieved light botrytis, giving this wine an ethereal quality on the palate. Golden and gorgeously viscous with clover honey, at 300g/L, this wine packs plenty of delicious sweetness, almost effortlessly balanced by a pinpoint acidity. Lifted notes of candied lemon peel and spice bring this gossamer beauty to its conclusion. This wine will age for decades.

The 2023 Riesling Kiedricher Gräfenberg Spätlese immediately parades its exquisitely pure nature that displays the ripe, crushed flesh of yellow peach as well as peach compote. The palate has gentleness and sweetness at first, but then gorgeous acid kicks in, outlining every detail and highlighting each nuance like a laser light. Simply exquisite, simply beautiful, thrilling and oh so pure—wow, what a glorious wine. It finished at 67 g/L of residual sweetness and 10 g/L of acidity. (Sweet)

A giant Spatlese, but in terms of depth and expression, not in sheer volume or density. A deep well of stone fruit, mandarin oranges, hibiscus and gardenias. Terrific concentration at the tightly wound core on the medium-bodied palate. Then comes the extraordinary lift of wet stone acidity that flows through the very long, pristine finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

The 2023 Riesling Kiedricher Gräfenberg Grosses Gewächs opens slowly but teases with scents of lemon balm and chervil, followed by a touch of yeast and citrus foliage. The palate is superbly fluid, pushing forward with citric energy, life force and exuberance. The senses can only hope to catch up with this dynamic movement. That scented cloud of citrus revels in refreshing yet absolutely full-fruited briskness. This is a picture of a dry Riesling—exciting, sleek and full of joy. (Bone-dry)

This pumps up the volume and cranks up the AC at the same time. The expansive aromas of yellow and white fruit, mandarin oranges and delicate notes of baking spices pull you into this complex and concentrated dry riesling. Terrific interplay of stony acidity with fine tannins and leesy creaminess on the medium- to full-bodied palate. Then comes the explosion of citrusy freshness in the super-long, zesty finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink from release.

The 2023 Kiedrich Gräfenberg Riesling Trocken GG is deep, intense and complex on the nose, indicating a certain richness. The 2023 Riesling Kiedricher Gräfenberg Auslese was made from shriveled grapes without botrytis. The nose opens with dried apricot, a touch of clear blossom honey and bright, illuminating lemon oil. Notions of orange and candied orange peel join the fray. All these nuances are heightened on the palate, while aromatic mandarin oil and mint tincture lend a textural backdrop. A glorious wine of utter purity, brilliance, concentration and incredible lightness, this is a game of precision taken to the nth degree. This is a Riesling that will outlast us all. (Sweet)

99 points, Anne Krebiehl, Vinous (Oct 2024)

The 2023 Kiedrich Gräfenberg Riesling Auslese is very intense but nobly refined and precise in its concentration and flinty nuances of crushed phyllite. Dense, lush and generous on the palate, this is an almost hedonistic but most of all refined, precise and stimulating saline Gräfenberg with a long, intense and stimulating finish. This is richness in its lightest form and another version of Rubens-meets-Dürer in a bottle of Gräfenberg. 8.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in August 2024.

97 points, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate (Oct 2024)

This great riesling Auslese is so exotic yet so delicate, vibrant and silky in spite of all the power and concentration. A cornucopia of ripe yellow and tropical fruit with a hint of floral honey. Super succulent and super clean on the medium- to full-bodied palate. The fresh pineapple acidity driving the very long finish is strident, but these are early days for a wine with the capacity to age for decades. Limited production from organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

97 points, Stuart Pigott, James Suckling (Aug 2024)

From hand-selected raisined berries without botrytis, this sweet nectar from the Gräfenberg site is haunting in its brilliance. Rich, deep tones of lemon oil balance against acacia honey, ripe, smoky grilled pineapple and a note of sweet marshmallow. The palate is opulent. Rich tropical notes a smoky depth of roast marshmallow, all lifted by brilliant notes of citrus cream and a beautifully preserved acidity that makes the entire affair dance across your palate.

Known for his larger-than-life personality and flamboyant, velvet-jacket attire, Burgundy-born Jean-Charles Boisset is a true believer that great wines are made in the vineyard, and his first priority after purchasing Raymond Vineyards in 2009 was to upgrade the existing 90-acre property and implement organic and biodynamic viticulture. 2023 Rapaura Springs Sauvignon Blanc Reserve (750ml)
Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, New Zealand

From the New Zealand region with "a towering reputation in the world of Sauvignon Blanc" according to the Wine Advocate's Erin Larkin, the bright and refreshing 92 pt. 2023 Rapaura Springs Sauvignon Blanc Reserve offers layers of vibrant citrus and lush tropical fruit hinting of freshly cut herbs with crisp acidity on a lengthy mineral finish, an outstanding value for fans of Marlborough Sauv Blanc and anyone seeking a refreshingly delicious white bargain priced for stocking the cooler.

With family roots in New Zealand dating back to 1867, third generation John Neylon planted his first parcel of commercial vines in the lower Wairau Valley in the early 2000's, releasing his first vintage of Rapaura Springs Sauvignon Blanc in 2007 and expanding vineyard holdings over the next decades to become one of the largest family-owned wineries in New Zealand. Fed by pure melting snow from the peaks of the Southern Alps, Rapaura's sustainably farmed vineyards are located on the South Island's Wairau Plains, the Sauvignon Blanc vines planted in well-drained soils over a deep underground aquifer that eliminates the need for irrigation. Preserving the freshness of the grapes by immediately pressing after harvest and employing cool fermentation in stainless steel, the alluring 92 pt. 2023 Rapaura Springs Sauvignon Blanc Reserve was sourced from vineyards in the Dillons Point and Wairau sub-regions, yielding an "elegant" Sauv Blanc boasting "fresh acidity with good intensity and texture" according to Decanter and revealing intensely aromatic passion fruit and lemon peel flavors on a lively, mouthwatering finish.

Expressing its pristine origins with an intensity that "few places on earth can deliver" according to the Wine Advocate's Erin Larkin, the refreshing 92 pt. 2023 Rapaura Springs Sauvignon Blanc Reserve expertly balances bright fruit flavors, heady aromatics and brisk acidity, a deliciously drinkable, textbook New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc that begs for another taste at an unbeatable price.

2023 Philippe Alliet Chinon Coteau de Noire (750ml)
Cabernet Franc from Chinon, Loire, France
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

"What a great scoop for our Loire direct-import portfolio to have Philippe Alliet and his son Pierre join the fold ... these wines are easily among the very best in Chinon." - Andrew Kitz, B-21 Loire Buyer

While not extremely well-known on this side of the Atlantic, Domaine Philippe Alliet is one of the Chinon appellation's leading lights, standing in strong company right alongside the likes of Charles Joguet. Father and son Philippe and Pierre employ meticulous methods to their prized vineyard holdings (some of the very best in all of Chinon), spearheading a new wave of viticulture that emphasizes very low yields and optimally ripe fruit at all costs. The resulting wines are nothing short of revelatory, reference-point expressions, which we saw first-hand during a tasting last fall.

The entire range is superb, but the 93-point 2022 Vieilles Vignes offers a perfect introduction to this remarkable, must-know estate.Selecting from the oldest vines in their various plots, all at least 70 years old, the Alliets vinify and age the VV entirely in cement vats, while full de-stemming only adds to the sheer allure of the wine's personality and expression. As Yohan Castaing of Wine Advocate writes, "This vintage is one of the most precise and pure expressions of Vieilles Vignes I have ever tasted. Kudos!"

Turning to the single-vineyard cuvées, the 2022 L'Huisserie hails from a south-facing on Chinon's most favored hillside, the clay and flint soils imparting both a round, fleshy, full-fruited character as well as a firm mineral signature to the wine. This "multidimensional wine" showcase the Alliet style to a T, with none of the rusticity that often follows Chinon Cab Franc. Finally, the 2023 Coteau de Noiré is a stupendous expression of a Chinon "grand cru" site with similar clay and marl soils and a much steeper 40% incline. The wine exhibits a firm structural foundation, sappy mid-palate, and brooding fruit profile for what amounts to a pinnacle expression of cellar-worthy Cabernet Franc.

Best of all, we're bringing you the Alliet wines directly from the domaine as new additions to our rapidly expanding Loire direct-import range, so the quality for price, which was already outstanding, becomes essentially unbeatable in the category.

2023 Petrolo Galatrona (750ml)
Merlot from Val d'Arno di Sopra, Tuscany, Italy
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

Widely considered one of the world's finest collectible Merlots, Petrolo's Galatrona hits astounding heights in this three-vintage mini-vertical. The Galatrona vineyard in the southeast Chianti hills is ideally suited to Merlot, with southeast exposure and loamy clay soils rich in marl, shale, and sandstone that retain plenty of moisture in the hot Tuscan summers. This superb terroir allows for a beautifully expressive wine seemingly regardless of vintage conditions, and what's more it routinely stands along side iconic bottlings like Masseto and Messorio at a mere fraction of their prices.

"The 2023 Galatrona,100% Merlot, is soft, plush and sensual ... not a huge Galatrona
but is instead a wine that impresses with its finesse." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

The 2023 Galatrona is another highlight-reel effort from this elite estate, with 98 points from James Suckling, as well as effusive praise from Antonio Galloni and Decanter. "Absolutely delicious" and "a gorgeous wine" are but a few of the accolades the 2023 has already racked up. The vintage gives us a refined and precise expression of Tuscan Merlot that is built to cruise on finesse rather than power - "One for the cellar," as James Suckling calls it.

"This is just a tremendous wine by any measure." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

The 2021 Galatrona has garnered huge press from across the critical spectrum, with a pair of 98-point scores and a pair of 97-point scores for good measure. Antonio Galloni describes "a feeling of vertical, explosive energy that catapults the 2021 into the stratosphere," while Wine Spectator calls it "seamless and luxuriously saturated ... more about finesse and elegance than power, with a vibrant profile and superlong finish."

"The Petrolo 2019 Galatrona is soft and luscious ... with elegance and sweeping intensity." - Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

Finally, the 2019 Galatrona is a hallmark modern rendition that flirts with perfection to the tune of 99 points from James Suckling, who calls it "muscular, yet agile. Pure and poised. A unique definition of merlot in Tuscany." This exceptional Tuscan vintage is on full display in the balanced, graceful, plush character of the wine, even as it carries the substance to age with the world's best Merlots. The only drawback is the miniscule quantity we have left.

Galatrona's track record is iron-clad, one of the finest in the region and certainly in the top echelon of Italian Bordeaux-varietal wines, and this trio is all teed up to become legends in the making for this iconic Tuscan superstar, at a razor-sharp pricing that's nearly unbeatable in the market.

99FS 98JS 96WA

Rich, impenetrable ruby-violet colour with a black core. Opens with delicate smoky notes, some cardamom and bay leaf. Lots of dark berry fruit, blueberry and mulberry, exciting. Juicy, vivid fruit, stretches powerfully over the tongue, juicy and at the same time very substantial tannins, full drive on the finish.

99 points, Falstaff (Oct 2025)

The aromas of black currants, graphite, lavender and violets are gorgeous. Black olives and walnuts, too. Medium-bodied with ultra-fine tannins, a racy texture and small black berry-like flavors. Iron undertones as well as dark chocolate, dried sage and rosemary. Vertical nature to this. One for the cellar. Pure merlot. From organically grown grapes. Best after 2030.

98 points, James Suckling (Jul 2025)

The Petrolo 2023 Val d'Arno di Sopra Galatrona stands among Italy’s benchmark expressions of Merlot. This organic wine comes from nine hectares of gently sloping vineyards with medium-rich soils marked by rocks and clay, lending both depth and natural balance. Gorgeously rich, velvety and intense, Galatrona delivers compelling concentration without ever sacrificing elegance or freshness. The underdog 2023 vintage presented notable challenges due to humidity and heat, but meticulous work in the vineyard and at the sorting table proved decisive, especially for an early-ripening variety like Merlot. Fermented in cement and aged in barrique and tonneaux for 18 months, the wine shows harmony between power and finesse. Production is 25,000 bottles.

"This is a real beauty from the western side of Oakville." - Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate

One of the visionary icons in single-vineyard Napa Cabernet and Chardonnay, Nickel & Nickel is still going great guns in the epic 2023 vintage. The latest release of their iconic John C. Sullenger Vineyard Cabernet hits it out of the park with a pair of glowing reviews from Jeb Dunnuck and Wine Advocate, and others sure to follow. The vintage itself is already being hailed as a modern classic for Napa, and Nickel & Nickel's world-class sites will no doubt shine in this special year.

The Sullenger Vineyard is the estate's "home vineyard" surrounding the winery in Oakville, planted on clay loam soils that give its wines the utmost Oakville character that makes this arguably the most famous of Napa's sub-AVAs. The 2023 is "another brilliant wine I'd love to have in the cellar, and it will see its 20th birthday in fine form," notes Dunnuck. Advocate's Joe Czerwinski was likewise highly impressed to the tune of 96 points, declaring, "his full-bodied wine is rich, voluptuous and silky on the outside, but underneath that flesh, there's a firm structure and dusty tannins that linger easily on the elegant finish."

Finding single-vineyard Napa Cabs of this pedigree, from a lauded vintage, for under $100 is becoming a rare feat these days, making this a super-savvy score for collectors who know a bargain when they see one. The fact that it comes from a true original and pioneer of the category is just icing on the cake.

Another Oakville beauty, the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon John C. Sullenger Vineyard sports an inky purple hue and gorgeous aromatics of cassis, currants, iron, leafy tobacco, and violets. It's medium to full-bodied, tight and focused on the palate, with building tannins, the fresher, structured style of the vintage, and outstanding length. It's tight and reserved at the moment, so hide bottles for 3-4 years if you can. It's another brilliant wine I'd love to have in the cellar, and it will see its 20th birthday in fine form. Drink 2028-2045.

"Intense and stylish ... generous, juicy and sleek." - Wine Spectator

Picking up right where the previous best-selling vintage left off, the fresh and juicy 92-point 2023 Neyers 304 Chardonnay offers crisp, aromatic stone fruit and citrus with bright acidity on a mouthwatering mineral finish, making it an outstanding value for fans of unoaked California Chardonnay and anyone seeking an easy drinking, food-friendly white to stock the cooler at a bargain price.

Bruce was inspired by his experience with Chablis producers to create the Neyers 304 Chardonnay, the name "304" an insider reference to the grade of stainless steel used in the winery's aging tanks. Fruit is sourced from the family-owned Paul Larson Vineyard in Carneros, planted in a rocky outcropping that yields smaller, more concentrated clusters and enhances minerality, while the cooling maritime influence of San Pablo Bay preserves the grapes' freshness and acidity.

Among the best values in unoaked California Chardonnay, this impressive, WS92 offering remains lesser known among the region's high-profile producers while over-delivering value as a top-scoring, ready to enjoy Chardonnay affordably priced for stocking up by the case.

Intense and stylish, with a core of Meyer lemon, pear and dried pineapple that's generous, juicy and sleek. Details of brioche, lemon blossoms and crunchy sea salt minerality linger alongside a whiff of lemon verbena. Drink now. 5,928 cases made.

92 points, MaryAnn Worobiec, Wine Spectator (Mar 2025)

This steel-fermented wine offers good acidity and refreshing qualities without an excess of buttery, toasty elements from oak barrels. It was aged on the lees for a nuanced, toasty, minerally effect and is generous in tangy apple, pineapple and lime zest flavors. Drink now.
