The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Argillières 1er Cru is strict on the nose at first, buttoned-up black fruit, the whole bunches (30%) neatly assimilated. The medium-bodied palate offers succulent, ripe black fruit commingling with blood orange, graphite and touches of black pepper. This wine has a beautiful build, which feels long and tender on the finish. Excellent.

Moderate reduction masks everything but traces of wood and spice. More interesting are the vibrant and super-fresh medium-bodied flavors that possess fine mid-palate density while concluding in a firm, serious and impeccably well-balanced finale where touches of minerality and rusticity slowly emerges. This is also very promising.

A very dense crimson purple. Luxuriant on the nose, though possibly for the first time in the line-up there is a suggestion of over ripeness. Not racked, but with some whole bunches. Very intense, good acidity behind saves the day, lush plums on the palate. The final feel is a touch too rich, but the racking may refine this. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted Oct 2023.
