Growing up in Burgundy as the daughter of a highly regarded Mercurey winemaker, Françoise Feuillat-Juillot began working with a small grower in Montagny-les-Buxy in 1989, taking over management of the domain when he unexpectedly passed away and purchasing the winery and vineyards in 2004. Situated at the south end of the Cote Chalonnaise, Feuillat-Juillot's vineyards span 14 hectares across 13 different premier crus, her top cuvee sourced from a 4-hectare parcel of old vines in Les Coeres, the largest 1er Cru in Montagny and considered its most exceptional terroir. Located at an altitude of 300 meters on an east exposure, the hillside vineyard is planted with low yielding vines averaging 60 years of age in marl and limestone soils, the evenly ripened Chardonnay grapes handpicked and fermented in large French oak casks. Employing regular stirring of the lees for up to 10 months, winemaker Francoise aged the fresh and alluring 2022 Domaine Feuillat-Juillot Montagny Les Coeres 1er Cru for 12 months in a mix of mostly used 500 liter demi-muids and traditional Burgundian barrels with light filtering before bottling, yielding intense, aromatic fruit balanced by "a superb spine of acidity" according to Neal Martin of Vinous on a lingering, graceful finish.
