I recently dined at a Greek restaurant and fell in love with this wine. looked everywhere for it and found it here at B‑21. I bought a case and bonus, they offered free shipping (their $12.00 shipping fee isn't bad either for less than a case). The best part was that it was delivered a day earlier than expected. Would definitely buy here again. Thank you B‑21 for great service.

I have been buying ~2 cases of wine per month for 5‑6 years from B‑21, and there has yet to be a problem with a single bottle. The orders are always filled correctly and the wine itself is always in good shape ‑ a great company.

2021 Orma (750ml)

Merlot from Tuscany, Italy

B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

Orma means footprint in Italian and certainly the Sette Ponti estate’s Super Tuscan blend Orma has established a large one – upon its initial release in 2005, wine critic James Suckling declared, “this Bordeaux blend from Bolgheri is a challenger to Sassicaia and Ornellaia.” Nestled between these two estates near the west coast of Tuscany, pioneering proprietor Antonia Moretti and celebrated consulting winemaker Giuseppe Caviola craft the flagship Orma cuvee of 50% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc, these top Orma vintages rivalling their high-profile neighbors in a range of formats and each delivering exceptional value at a fraction of the price.

  • A rich blend offering “depth and intensity” according to the Wine Spectator’s Bruce Sanderson, the 95 pt. 2017 Orma promises pleasurable drinking over the next five or more years, its lush smooth tannins now beautifully integrated with extended cellaring in magnum format.
  • Described as “a generous and bold blend” by the Wine Advocate’s Monica Larner, the 96 pt. 2018 Orma is “the classic Tuscan blended red with sunshine and power” with balanced, bright acidity reflecting its Italian terroir.
  • Boasting “power and freshness” according to Decanter’s Georgina Hindle, Vinous critic Antonio Galloni describes the 97 pt. 2019 Orma as “seriously compelling,” declaring the outstanding 2019 vintage “full of surprises, in the best sense of the term.”
  • Named one of James Suckling’s Top Wines of Italy in 2022, the 97 pt. 2020 Orma is “fresh and aromatic” according to Decanter’s James Button with “intense, zingy and spicy” fruit while the Wine Advocate’s Monica Larner describes it as “richly concentrated” with “considerable intensity.”
  • Earning top scores from critics across the board, the 96 pt. 2021 Orma “packs a wallop” according to the Wine Independent’s Lisa Perrotti-Brown, offering opulent, richly concentrated spiced fruit and “finishing with an invigorating mineral lift.”
  • Described by Inside Bordeaux’s Jane Anson as a wine that “always brings the finesse,” the 97 pt. 2022 Orma is a “clear Tuscan interpretation of the Bordeaux grapes” according to critic Anson “and a wine to seek out,” its ripe velvety tannins promising over a decade of longevity.

As Orma continues its stellar trajectory vintage over vintage, B-21 collectors and fans of Bordeaux inspired Italian blends will agree with Antonio Galloni of Vinous who declared “Antonio Moretti’s Orma seems to keep getting better with each passing vintage,” this vertical offer a rare opportunity to mix a case and enjoy Orma’s thrilling evolution at unbeatable value pricing.

Aromas of herbs such as basil and bay leaf with currants follow through to a full body with creamy and round tannins, and lots of coffee bean and walnut undertones. Chewy but not overdone. Velvety texture. Fine at the end. Drinkable but better in three to five years.

96 points, James Suckling (Aug 2023)

The 2021 Orma is a blend of 50% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 20% Cabernet Franc. Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, it bursts from the glass with bold notes of stewed black plums, boysenberry preserves, and underbrush, followed by hints of cedar chest, tar, and bay leaves. The big, concentrated, full-bodied palate packs a wallop, with bags of expressive black fruits and a grainy texture, finishing with an invigorating mineral lift.

96 points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Independent (Aug 2023)

Orma, Sette Ponti's sister estate based in Bolgheri, is – like Sette Ponti's Oreno – Merlot-based, but it's a different blend in a different place and, in my opinion, reaches greater heights. Spicy, brambly berry aromas with some dusty wood and chocolate notes are followed in the mouth by super-fresh acidity, introducing some ripe black fruits then a stony mid-palate. A fine web of silky tannins supports the fruit, while herbal and balsamic edges bring a sense of freshness and levity to the concentrated fruit. The finish is long, succulent and fresh, with some fresh and dried black fruits accompanied by spice and chocolate. Great balance.

96 points, James Button, Decanter (Jul 2023)

The organic 2021 Orma pours from a chunky glass bottle. The blend is 50% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc (with 18 months in barrique). This wine is heady and opulent with a bouquet that delivers swells of black fruit, plum, spice and floral highlights of lilac or blue flower. These aromas are delivered in waves of varying intensity. This is a proverbial food wine that calls for a dish with a high fat content. The freshness is there, and there is considerable fruit weight to pair across from grilled lamb with mint sauce. Production is 39,000 bottles.

95 points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate (Feb 2024)

Deep garnet in colour, intense with jewel-like reflections. Cloves and liqourice spices get things underway, with cassis and bilberry fruits, plenty of intensity given an exotic edge of fennel, smoked cumin and cardamon spice. Good quality, carefully delivered, this feels chiselled and precise with a long dry finish. Moretti Cuseri family, 7.5ha of their vineyard given over to these Bordeaux varieties, oak barrels then aged for one year in bottle before release.

94 points, Jane Anson (Aug 2023)
