The Verdejo grapes for the 2009 Shaya are sourced from both estate vineyards and local growers with vine age ranging from 75-112 years. The wine was barrel-fermented and aged on its lees. Medium straw-colored, if offers up an alluring aroma of baking spices, spring flowers, and peach. On the palate it has a creamy texture, vibrant acidity, and intense flavors leading to a lengthy, fruit-filled finish. It is a great value in dry, aromatic white wine that over-delivers in a big way. 91points - The Wine Advocate # 188, Apr 2010
As far as value-priced Ruedas go, this is at the top of the heap. The nose is forward, clean as glass and not too pungent or demanding. Solid as can be across the tongue, with green fruit flavors that shine and don’t force the issue. Crystalline and pure from start to finish. - M.S. (10/1/2010) - 90 points, The Wine Enthusiast
My favorite month is here (my name was no coincidence), and to celebrate I plan on eating lots of fresh seafood. After all I live in Florida right? Verdejo has been calling my name and this new project from Juan Gil and Jorge Ordonez, was the one that satisfied my tastebuds. Besides the obvious hints of melon, it reminded me of the Jamaican Grapefruit that I ate on vacation this May. If you’ve never tried one, it tastes like a heavenly mix of a orange, kiwi and grapefruit, similar to the flavors I picked up in the Shaya Verdejo. Shaya is refreshing, crisp and dry and a perfect match to ceviche! 90 Points, Summer Martin, B-21 Staff Selection, June 2010 |
