You've been asking for Barolo at an everyday price. The answer is this fabulous Perbacco from our friends at Vietti. The label doesn't read Barolo but it's Barolo juice from famed sites including Bricco Boschis and Ginestra impeccably managed by Vietti. Perbacco has tell-tale ripe cherry, fringed with mint and spice, and in 2007 it's a jewel. Vietti could label it Barolo and charge more but they wanted to give the world a bargain from Piedmont. Boy this tastes great with short ribs but it would dazzle with traditional Piedmontese cuisine too. Bob Sprentall -Proprietor

The just-bottled 2007 Langhe Nebbiolo Perbacco offers up generous fruit along with menthol, spices and hard candy, showing notable intensity while retaining an essentially mid-weight style. Round, suave tannins add to the long and refined finish. This is a wonderful vintage for Perbacco. In 2007 Perbacco is made from parcels in Bricco Boschis, Ginestra and Mosconi (aged together), Liste, Brunella, Crocetta, Pernanno and the youngest vines in Fossati, Ravera (planted in 2000) and Scarrone (planted in 2003). I tasted the 2007 Perbacco from tank in its final blend just prior to bottling and then a few days after it was bottled. Both times it was outstanding. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2022. 90+ points, Antonio Galloni for Robert Parker's Wine Advocate #185 (OCT 2009)

Barolo from one of the masters in a great vintage for only $25! True it’s not labeled Barolo but this 100% Nebbiolo is in fact from 10 different Barolo vineyards and the creation of one of the greats, Luca Currado at Vietti Winery. Vietti’s very high standards and key vineyard holdings make this wine possible. Antonio Galloni says it “offers up generous fruit along with menthol, spices and hard candy, … Round, suave tannins add to the long and refined finish. This is a wonderful vintage for Perbacco.” And scores it 90+ points. It should drink well for 10 years. Grab 6 bottles while it’s still available. 91 points, Steve Rayman

This is delicate and fresh with bright acid, spices, fruit, and minerals. This is fresh and clean, a fabulous Nebbiolo. 90 points, James Suckling, January 25, 2011
