Light gold. Vibrant, mineral-driven lime and pear on the nose, with complicating notes of beeswax, lanolin and herbs; smells like a Vouvray. Dusty citrus and mineral flavors are sweetened by honey and candied ginger, with a touch of anise gaining strength with air. Dense, chewy and serious wine with strong finishing grip and lingering waxiness. 91 Points, Josh Raynolds for Stephen Tanzer's Int'l Cellar (Apr 2010)
"From 35 year old vines. Nose : Black pepper and gun flint. White flowers and lime rind, verbena marinated ripe pear skins. Citrics and noble chlorophyll. White pepper and pear skins. Palate : Pears and pear skins (sign of ripe Loire Sauvingon). Cinnamon, chalk dust and salt give this wine energy. Lemon and lime marinating pears and floral peaches. Rich mouth feel but peppery finish with topographical relief." Notes from Peter Vezan, an American in France who is in the know and is the conduit between many producers and importers. |
