Bright straw. Captivating, pungent nose shows poached pear, licorice, wet stone and tobacco, with a subtle herbal nuance adding further complexity. Velvety, pure and dry but not austere, with intense minerality firming the lush orchard and pit fruit flavors. The very long, dusty, mineral-dominated finish refuses to let up. This densely packed wine would be great with a rich poultry dish, or with strong cheeses. 93 Points, Josh Raynolds for Stephen Tanzer's Int'l Cellar (Apr 2010)
"From 55 year old vines. Nose: Mushrooms and pear butter. More Chablis signatured, crushed branches. White peaches with verbena mushroom butter. Palate: Chalk dust bomb with lots of citrics (lime, lemon and grapefruits). Gingery pears. Black pepper and touch of tamarind. Fatter. More complex. More topographical relief. Longer (15 seconds). The end of mouth is dry with minerals and salinity." Notes from Peter Vezan, an American in France who is in the know and is the conduit between many producers and importers. |
