Deep red. Expansive, seductively perfumed bouquet of red berries, cherry, fresh rose and lavender. Silky and sweet, with pinot-like red fruit and floral flavors and no obvious tannins. Emphasizes finesse over power, and finishes with excellent lift, cut and persistence. I'd love to see this next to a top-notch New World pinot noir. 91 points, By Josh Raynolds for Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Sep/Oct 08
The colour hue is good, but not as deep as expected from the vintage; the usual attractive medium-bodied palate offers a mix of blackberry, dark cherry and chocolate fruit, finishing with persistent tannins. Drink 2015 91 points, James Halliday for the Australian Wine Companion (Aug 08)
"This 2006 bottling commemorates d’Arry Osborn’s 80th birthday and 64th consecutive vintage in the Vale, and I reckon they’ve steered some exceptional fruit the way of the original as a tribute to the old boy’s outstanding life in wine. It smells of ripe summer berries and red licorice, some plums and spice—really compelling and soulful regional style. The palate’s all wrapped in smooth, swirling tannin that cradles juicy plum and blackberry flavour gently from start to finish, lingering fruit presence. Superb drinking now and the potential to age with grace and charm." |
