This is the first California wine from Australia's R Wines, made by winemaker Chris Ringland. A 50/50 blend of Mourvedre and Carignan from California's Contra Costa County, where the average vine age is more than 118 years old! Aged for 20 months in three-year-old French hogsheads, this wine has a subtle smokiness that acts as a lovely foil to the earthy, meaty, plummy fruit on the wine's nose and palate. Layered, with supple tannins and a lingering finish, this is a big wine for grilled meats. |
