Also 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Estate (only 530 cases produced) is a brilliant, but backward cuvee. Deeper, fuller-bodied, and even more stacked and packed than the Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, it reveals graphite, blueberry, blackberry, and cassis notes in its rich, full, tannic, pure personality. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2025.
These are consistently brilliant wines thanks to the efforts of winemaker Tony Biagia. The 2007 offerings reflect what a great site this 40-acre vineyard planted in the tenderloin of Oakville truly is. Older readers may remember the superb Villa Mt. Eden Cabernet Sauvignons made by Nils Venge (also the consulting winemaker at Plumpjack) in the mid and late seventies, wines that are still profound today. 94 points, Wine Advocate # 180Dec 2008
Aromas of blueberries, minerals, licorice, and lavender. Full bodied, with lots of fruit but burns a little at the end. Wish there was a little less alcohol on the finish (15.2 on label), but some may love the flamboyant fruit. Drink young. 90 points, www.jamessuckling.com February 15th, 2011
