Leonard Humbrecht describes the wine perfectly when he says, "It's pure Gewurz." Flowers, nutmeg and white fruit are intensely ripe, though surprising acidity keeps the package together. 94 Points, Wine News, March/April/May 2007
This deeply colored dry white is loaded with layers of star fruit, grapefruit, rose, cream and spice, all underscored by a lightly smoky mineral element. The firm structure and defined acidity are filled in by the fleshy texture, with a lingering finish of white pepper and sweet fruit. Drink now through 2025. 1,316 cases made. 92 points, Wine Spectator, Sept. 30, 2007
(includes young vines from Hengst and older vines from Herrenweg) Nuanced aromas of yellow plum, cinnamon and cardamom. This has alcohol and residual sugar similar to the 2004 bottling but shows more weight and richness, with very ripe suggestions of mirabelle and marzipan. Conveys a chewy impression of extract, with good lift from its aromatic spice component. Tactile and long on the aftertaste. Quite plump but not at all overly sweet. 89 points, Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Jul/Aug 07 |
