The 2005 Sierra Cantabria Reserva spent 18 months in 20% new French and American oak. It sports a fragrant, earthy, spicy nose with aromas of incense and blackberry. Already complex on the palate, this medium to full-bodied wine has enough structure to evolve for 2-3 years. Drink it from 2013 to 2025. 91 points Wine Advocate # 188 (Apr 2010).
Bright ruby. Primary cherry and dark berry skin aromas are complemented by notes of pipe tobacco, licorice and smoky Indian spices. Juicy and focused, offering sweet cherry-vanilla and cola flavors and a bright shot of minerality. An extremely fresh wine with excellent finishing cut. This isn't showing much age at all; in fact, this is downright primary. 91(+?) points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Sep/Oct 09.
