"Produced from fruit grown in the 40 year old, 15 hectare Valdepoleo vineyard at 630 meters altitude. Fermented in 15,000 hectoliter stainless steel tanks with daily pump overs. Grapes skins see post-fermentation maceration for an additional 7-10 days. One-third of the wine sees malolactic fermentation in new French oak barrels, the remainder in stainless tanks. Following malolactic fermentation the wine is aged for 15 months in new French oak. After bottling the wine is aged for a few more months prior to release to the market."
"Ruby-red. Energetic red berry and mineral aromas are complicated by blood orange and baking spices. Taut strawberry and raspberry flavors display impressive purity, with tangy minerality adding vivacity. A restrained, elegant style of Rioja, with very good finishing clarity and sneaky length. This reminded me of a serious but understated Burgundy." 91 points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, July/Aug '08
"Intense cherry color. Fresh fruit aromas, varietal, elegant, expressive with character, mineral, dry stones, toasted, creamy oak, fine cocoa. In the mouth powerful, varietal, fruity, tasty, toasted, ripe fruit, retronasal torrefaction (browning/toasting/roasting aromas)." 91 points - Guia Penin, 2008 |
