"The 2005 (700 cases) has a dense plum/garnet color with some lightening at the edge. It develops beautifully with aeration, exhibiting notes of white chocolate, black currant, cedar, and spice box. A medium to full-bodied wine, spicy, with a distinctive earthiness almost reminiscent of a St.-Estephe from Bordeaux, the tannin management is impeccable, as the tannins are present but sweet. This wine seems to be relatively evolved but should last, given its impeccable balance, for 15-20 years.
Former Mondavi CEO Michael Mondavi has his own boutique operation on Atlas Peak. It includes 17 acres planted on a hillside elevation of approximately 1,600 feet in volcanic white tufa. This site was once used as part of the blend for Opus One, but it is owned by Mondavi, who produces between 700 and 1,000 cases. This is, for the most part, a European, Bordeaux-styled wine, with more structure and firmness than many Napa Cabernets display in their youth." 91 points, Wine Advocate # 186

"Tight and cedary, with mineral, sage and oak flavors that overshadow the dried currant, spice and black cherry fruit. Well-structured and focused. Best from 2010 through 2016. 700 cases made." 91 points - Wine Spectator Web Only 2008 |
