"(75% malbec and 25% cabernet sauvignon) Bright, full ruby. Sexy, smoky aromas of currant, licorice, pepper, tobacco leaf and sweet herbs; showing its cabernet side today. Then suave, ripe, pliant and round, with classically dry flavors of currant, spice and pepper. Finishes with sweet tannins and lovely persistence. Here the cabernet dominates the wine's aromas and flavors, while the malbec gives a mouthfilling texture. A very successful blend." 91 points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Jan/Feb 08
"Powerful in style, but approachable, with fig paste, blueberry, coffee and mocha notes allied to a muscular frame. Dark and juicy on the finish, with the fruit showing nice depth. Drink now through 2009. 175 cases made." 90 points - Wine Spectator, November 30, 2007
"The 2005 Beso de Dante is named in honor of Laura Catena’s son. It is composed of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Malbec aged in 30% new French oak. Purple colored, it has an expressive perfume of pain grille, cassis, mineral, and black currant. On the palate it comes off as compact and short in the finish. Having recently tasted the outstanding 2003, it may be that I caught this wine at an awkward moment. This wine needs to be retasted." 89 points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, Issue 174 |
