"A lush, full-bodied wine with intense notes of wild blackberries, raspberries and plums. Not only rich and intense this zin has a sappy concentration that only meticulously maintained old vines can produce. There is great length and this wine seems in perfect balance. It is very fruit oriented with little to no oak influence. The terroir shines through with clarity. This Zin will continue to blossom for 3 years and drink well for 10." 93 points - Steve Rayman, B-21 Wine Team
“Crimson tartrate crystals coat the inside of the cork, lending a sort of Xmas cookie appearance. Like a slowly loping cat, curiosity leads me to lick my finger, dab it on the crystals, and return the finger, replete with its new passengers, to my mouth…nothing. I’m not sure what I
expected, but it certainly wasn’t the complete absence of flavor. Disinterested in the sparkly cork I splash some wine into my glass. The nose offers a bushel of fleshy red fruit, spice and rhubarb accompanied by a gentle whiff of alcohol. Ample body and loads of berry on the palate, a pleasant bitter edge balances out near-sweet tropical punch notes. Albeit brief, the finish is smooth and tasty. For those who still enjoy a nice Zinfandel, and I remain in this constituency, this is a really fun wine.” ~91 Points, Shawn Reynolds
"Defines a very ripe, varietally true interpretation of Zinfandel. It's the kind of wine the old Italian-American families might have enjoyed in the days of old, with its lusty flavors of freshly picked wild berries that were made into jam. The alcohol is on the high side, but the wine is luscious." 90 points - Wine Enthusiast, February 2008
This old vine Zinfandel released by GiaDomella comes from an estate vineyard located along the Russian River owned by the E. Passalacqua family under the guidance of winemaker Nick Goldschmidt. The land where this historic vineyard is situated has been in their family for nearly a century and has been owned in succession by our great-grandparents, grandparents and parents. Grape growing and winemaking have always been a piece of our family heritage. GiaDomella is a tribute to this heritage and is named after Gianna, Dominic, and Marcella Passalacqua, the 5th generation of our winemaking family.
