The most classical of the three Diamond Creek wines in 2004, Red Rock is also the most perfectly formed. It starts with a dark savor that turns to succulent cherry and deepens to black currant. Its freshness feels as cool as the shade on a sunny Diamond Mountain afternoon. Firm tannins support the fruit, and it's the fruit that lasts, set to go the distance. A great vintage of Red Rock, this has decades of development ahead. 96 Points, Wine & Spirits, December 2007
"Deep and keenly defined fruit sits at the heart of this complex and impressively extracted young Cabernet, and, even if toughened just now by its undisguised tannins, the wine effortlessly conveys compelling impressions of layering and real range with its fine juxtapositioning of vanilla, cassis, black olives and loamy soil spice. It is perfectly ripened with nary the least hint of excess, and it stands as a classic varietal working whose future is as sure as sure gets." 95 points - Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine, August 2007 |
