Similar bright colour to the varietal shiraz; the smooth but complex bouquet ranges through spice, blackberry and chocolate, the rich and mouthfilling palate with dark chocolate and blackberry, the supple texture coming from ripe tannins and very well handled oak. Named in honour of HJ 'Bert' Oliver, who planted the vineyard in 1948. Drink 2015. 92 points, James Halliday for the Australian Wine Companion (Feb 03)
"Firm, generous with its ripe blueberry and plum flavors, finishing with chewy tannins around a supple core of fruit and spice. This has a future. Best from 2008 through 2015. 75 cases imported." 90 points - Wine Spectator, Web Only 2005 |
