A blend of 50% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 20% Cabernet Franc, this is a multi-textured, thick, juicy, dense purple-colored 1999 with generous amounts of La Mission's chocolatey, scorched earth, black fruit character. Medium to full-bodied, with low acidity, this sexy, opulent, stunning effort will drink well for 14-15 years. 90-93 points Robert Parkers Wine Advocate # 128 (Apr 2000).
Bright ruby-red. Closed nose hints at raspberry, menthol and woodsmoke. Fat, thick and seamless, with nicely integrated, ripe acidity. A wine of impressive volume, a bit brutal and undifferentiated today but with good power for the vintage. Not at all overly sweet. Finishes with substantial chewy tannins that spread out over the palate. 89-92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, May/June 00.
Offers rose and blackberry, with currant jam aromas. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and lots of fruit. This is very youthful, yet silky and refined. Just coming around.¿'89/'99 Bordeaux blind retrospective (2009). Drink now. 5,830 cases made. 90 points James Suckling for the Wine Spectator, Online 2010.
