From “an exceptional Burgundy vintage” according to Decanter’s Charles Curtis, these elegant 94 pt. 2020 Domaine Chapuis White and Red selections are high scoring, small production gems from an under the radar estate in the Cote de Beaune, offering outstanding value among Burgundy’s skyrocketing prices and well-priced for Burgundy lovers to stock the cellar.

Located at the edge of the tiny village of Aloxe Corton at the base of the Corton hill, Domaine Chapuis is a family estate boasting a 170-year history as growers in Burgundy, crafting its wines from 11 hectares of vineyards and aging them in stone cellars dating back to the 14th century. Crafted by sixth generation winemaker Pierre Chapuis, the delicately fragrant 92 pt. 2020 Domaine Chapuis Chorey-les-Beaune Blanc boasts “a satiny texture, with plenty of expressive apple and citrus flavors and a racy backbone” according to the Wine Independent’s Lisa Perrotti-Brown, the Chardonnay vines planted in sandy, calcareous marl soils that add a hint of minerality to the mouthwatering finish. Called “a wonderful testament to the easy beauty of these less renowned Burgundy appellations” by Inside Bordeaux’s Jane Anson, the refined 94 pt. 2020 Domaine Chapuis Aloxe Corton 1er Cru was sourced from the three diverse 1er Cru plots of Pinot Noir averaging 45 years of age, revealing fragrant red fruit with “a solid backbone of fine-grained tannins and bold freshness” according to the Wine Independent’s Lisa Perrotti-Brown. A "steal of a deal" for Grand Cru White Burgundy, the rich and elegant 95 pt. 2020 Domaine Chapuis Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru was sourced from the estate’s single hectare parcel at the highest portion of the Corton Hill and aged on the lees in about 10% new French oak for 12 months with extended time in bottle, yielding a deeply complex Grand Cru of exceptional finesse “with loads of mineral accents and a long citrusy finish” according to the Wine Independent’s Lisa Perrotti-Brown and promising savvy collectors over a decade of pleasurable drinking to come.

From an outstanding Burgundy vintage “imbued with remarkable freshness” according to Neal Martin of Vinous, these elegant 2020 Domain Chapuis cuvees are classically styled to transparently express each wine’s distinctive terroir, delivering outstanding value for savvy Burgundy lovers who can truly appreciate a great deal.

Good luck not falling in love with this, with its intense, concentrated depths of citrus, slate, graphite, spiced pear and cold ash, vivid, drawn out and full of character. Domaine Maurice & Anne-Marie Chapuis is a family estate that has been based in Aloxe-Corton for 6 generations, Pierre Chapuis winemaker today, with 1ha of south/southeast-facing slopes in Corton Charlemagne - and it seems significant that they have chosen to release a small amount through the Place de Bordeaux this year.

New to the Place de Bordeaux this year. From a 1ha plot of vines in Corton Charlemagne. Soft white flowers and subtle toasted edge on the nose, charred caramel, jasmine and vanilla pasty. Bright and sharp on the palate, lean and almost austere save for the thickness of the texture with a spiced honey and pear edge. Angular but so delicious and well worked, full of nuance and interest giving the wine a complex whole. Crystalline puritty, lovely sense of confidence and length. Clearly still young and tense, with some constriction, but graceful, energetic, lively, spiced and full of interest. I love it, long and lingering. Balanced, invigorating and uber charming. Pierre Chapuis winemaker.

The 2020 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru needs a little swirling to unlock notes of fresh apricots, honey-drizzled pears, and toasted almonds with touches of croissant and chalk dust. The medium-bodied palate reveals a silky texture and a quiet intensity of stone fruit flavors, with loads of mineral accents and a long citrusy finish.
