A perfumed nose of dark berries, cedar, fresh leather, tar and peppercorns. Full-bodied with firm tannins. Structured, with a plush, creamy palate. Lovely, pure fruit. Seamless finish. Drink after 2025.

Iron, smoky black fruits, earth, and chocolate notes all emerge from the 2019 Le Clos Du Beau-Père, a medium-bodied, lively Pomerol that has good richness yet stays in the fresher, pretty, elegant style of the vintage. It shows more and more floral nuances with time in the glass and benefits from air. It's going to evolve for 15 years or more.

An enjoyable Pomerol from Jean-Luc Thunevin, less high profile than his St Emilion wines but made with the same attention to detail and the same ready-to impress quality. Plenty of dark chocolate, liquorice, brambled black fruits and polished tannins.

Expressie nose full of savoury herbs, rosemary and thyme with coffee beans, dark chocolate and blackcurrants. Beautiful texture - almost a lean quality to the overall feeling but with a ripe quality to the dark blackcurrant and black cherry fruits. Tannins are generous but fine and smooth giving a sense of weight without being heavy. Good persistence of freshness from start to finish. Lovely mineral finish too, almost tongue scrapingly clean. Enjoyable. So much to like.

The 2019 Le Clos du Beau-Père is sumptuous and flamboyant right out of the gate. Dark cherry, plum, licorice, spice, mocha and chocolate give this ample, expressive Pomerol its distinctive personality. The 2019 is forward and ready to go.
