I began using B21 about 2 years ago. Wish I had found them sooner. They represent about 70% to 80 % of my liquor buys. Only the odd things are purchased elsewhere. Once you use them you will be hooked. Inventory, professional staff, quick shipping and competative pricing are what I really appreciate. Try them, you have nothing to lose and much to gain.

2021 Remi Niero Condrieu Couer de Roncharde (750ml)
Viognier from Condrieu, Rhône, France
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

A top scoring selection of elegant, vineyard expressive Viognier wines, these enticing 2021 Remi Niero Condrieu cuvees offer fresh, richly aromatic and lush textured fruit with bright, vibrant acidity, a selection of exquisite dry white wines masterfully crafted to be "characterful and expressive of their various terroirs" according to the Wine Advocate's Joe Czerwinski and ready to enjoy over the next 5-7 years at an unbeatable value price.

Situated on steep terraced vineyards separated by centuries' old stone walls, the cultivation of Condrieu in the Northern Rhone was nearly abandoned in the early 21st century with only a dozen hectares remaining, until a few enthusiastic Viognier growers including Remi Niero's father Robert began replanting the abandoned slopes in the 1980's and reestablishing the appellation to include only the best exposures for ripening the Viognier grape. Located on the right bank of the Rhone about 40 kilometers south of Lyon, the organically farmed vineyards of third generation winemaker Remi Niero span 4 hectares throughout the small Condrieu AOC on precipitous, sunny slopes above the river, planted with vines ranging from 40 to over 70 years of age in stony soils of granite and gneiss with pockets of sand and schist that imbue Remi's Condrieu wines with engaging floral aromatics and distinctive minerality. Aged in a mix of mostly used French oak and stainless steel for 12 months, the enticing single vineyard 95 pt. 2021 Remi Niero Condrieu Couer de Roncharde comes from a top old vine parcel on the La Roncharde hill, a rich, opulent expression of Viognier crafted in a "neat, citrusy style" according to Decanter's Matt Walls, while the single vineyard 94 pt. 2021 Remi Niero Condrieu Vernon comes from old vines grown on an exceptional hillside terroir yielding "a great texture, integrated acidity, and one heck of a finish" according to Jeb Dunnuck. A harmonious blend of the estate's best barrels, the lush and concentrated 97 pt. 2021 Remi Niero Condrieu Cherytage reveals aromatic honeyed fruit with bright saline acidity in a "more steely, mineral-driven" style according to Jeb Dunnuck with a refreshing, lengthy finish.

Crafted to mirror their distinctive Condrieu terroir, Jeb Dunnuck described the exceptional 2021 Remi Niero Condrieu wines as "impeccably made and a quintessential expression of this incredible appellation," all meticulously hand crafted to deliver pleasurable drinking for lovers of the world's best Viognier wines at an affordable price.

This domaine is particularly adept at making whites – in fact, it’s one of the rare northern Rhône domaines making more white wine than red. The Condrieu are brilliant across the range, and this is its newest cuvée, first released in the 2018 vintage. It’s a single-vineyard wine from 75-year-old vines in lieu-dit La Roncharde in the north of the appellation, just above the Côte Chatillon. Neat, citrussy style with vibrant acidity. The oak makes itself known on the finish, but should be very good in time. Well balanced, classic. Rich, ripe, tropical nose, with vanilla and nutmeg spice. Lots of ripe fuzzy peach with a creamy texture and a slight grip from oak tannin. Juicy acidity and nice length. A delicate nose dominated by some floral components, followed by a gently textured palate with ripe fruits, good acidity maintaining a lively finish.

95 points, Decanter (Mar 2023)

The 2021 Condrieu Coeur De Roncharde is very clean and pure, with citrus and pineapple-like aromatics to go with a medium-bodied, beautifully balanced, lively style on the palate. As with the other cuvées here, it's impeccably made and a quintessential expression of this incredible appellation.

2022 Francois Villard Condrieu DePoncins (750ml)
Viognier from Condrieu, Rhône, France
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

Our new domaine-direct partnership with Northern Rhône reference-point François Villard was unexpected, but when the opportunity came, we jumped on it in a big way. After all, Northern Rhône insiders know these as some of the most classically styled, textbook expressions in the category.

While the domaine's calling card is their remarkable trio of Condrieus, serious Rhône connoisseurs also know they produce some of the smartest bang-for-the-buck buys out there in their line-up of impressive reds. Sourced from parcels on granite and quarz soils, the 2022 St-Joseph Reflet is "exquisite," a quintessential appellation benchmark that can stand toe-to-toe with many more well-known names like Coursodon, Courbis, and yes, even cult darling Pierre Gonon. "Clearly the standout in the line-up," as noted by Jeb Dunnuck's 95-point review, the 2022 is a "gorgeous wine" that shows tremendous character in its "pure, layered, elegant mouthfeel and polished tannins." While we're at it, don't miss a pair of spectacular Crozes-Hermitage winners, especially 95-point Les Malfondieres. Jeb Dunnuck declares it "a 'wow' Crozes-Hermitage that should be snatched up by readers," all the more impressive since we rarely see this wine in the US market.

As mentioned above, the pride and joy of the domaine are their elite Condrieu expressions from some of the appellation's best vineyards. "The 2022 Condrieu Deponcins is rocking stuff," notes Jeb Dunnuck. This steep vineyard on granite and mica schist is classic Condrieu terroir, and Villard's version shows captivating varietal purity along with the structural balance to be laid down for a few years, a quality not typically associated with Viognier and almost always found only in the very best Condrieus. "Full-bodied, powerful and evocative, the 2022 is a generous Deponcins ... This is outstanding." Likewise, the JD96 Villa Pontciana is "brilliant and classic stuff" from a 50-year-old vines on steep granite mica-schist soils. Vinous' Nicolas Greinacher exclaims, "The 2022 Condrieu Villa Pontciana is a stunner ... a standout Condrieu that’s totally worth the chase." We couldn't have put it better ourselves, and we expect nothing less from one of the appellation's leading producers.

The 2022 Condrieu Deponcins is rocking stuff, offering peach, pineapple, and minty honeyed flowers. Medium-bodied, fresh, focused, and elegant on the palate, it has beautiful purity and balance. It is best enjoyed over the coming 5-7 years. Drink 2025-2032.

95 points, Jeb Dunnuck (May 2025)

The barrel-fermented 2022 Condrieu Deponcins aged for one year in French oak barriques (25% new) and then an additional four months in stainless steel tanks. Fragrant honeysuckle, lemon flesh, ripe pear, white peach and quince notes rise up from the glass. Full-bodied, powerful and evocative, the 2022 is a generous Deponcins that checks out with saline traces on the complex finish. This is outstanding.

93 points, Nicolas Greinacher, Vinous (Jan 2025)

A minerally, succulent and refined Condrieu. Aromas of apples. stone fruit and sweet spices. Medium-bodied with bright acidity. Vivid core of lemons with a well-rounded texture on the palate, caressing and delicate. Round and flavorful finish. Drink or hold.

More nectarine than peach, this has real presence on the palate, and great freshness. Concentrated and intense, this has great salinity and impact and huge length, with a refreshing mineral edge. This is not a new cuvée, but rather an evolution of their cuvée Héritage. After a closer inspection of their plot boundaries, it transpired that their Chéry plot is actually partly in Vernon, partly in Chéry. So now they are bottling the Vernon part separately, and the remaining part of Chéry now goes into their cuvée Héritage from the 2021 vintage - hence the new name, Chérytage.

2022 Lionel Faury Condrieu Le Mornieux (750ml)
Viognier from Condrieu, Rhône, France

95WS 93V

Simmering with power and energy, this distinctive wine leads with its savory side. Bitter green herb, chive, smoke and salty, yeasty notes give way to verbena oil, green plum and melon, all atop a foundation of crushed flint. Concentrated and long, with almond cream, toast and smoke hovering on the finish, which stretches on and on. Drink now through 2030. 76 cases imported.

95 points, Kristen Bieler, Wine Spectator (Mar 2025)

I totally dig the 2022 Condrieu Le Mornieux, a Viognier of class and substance. Prominent apricot, quince, spring blossom, cedar, acacia, honey and ripe peach all race out of the glass. Rich and concentrated, the full-bodied 2022 checks out with persistence on the stone fruit-laden finish–a powerhouse.

Honeyed orange, brioche, toasted spice, sappy flowers, and ample minerality all emerge from the 2021 Condrieu Vernon, a beautifully textured, medium-bodied, seamless, utterly gorgeous Condrieu. Brilliant and classic stuff, the 2022 Condrieu Villa Pontciana reveals rich stone fruits, tangerine, melon, and honeyed flowers. Exotic, round, and layered on the palate, it shows a pure, balanced style that has so much to love. Drink this smoking good Condrieu over the coming 5-7 years. Drink 2025-2032.

The 2022 Condrieu Villa Pontciana is a stunner. Hauntingly floral, it unveils pronounced honeysuckle, spring blossom, lemon flesh, apricot and white peach aromas. 2022 Andre Perret Chery (750ml)
Viognier from Condrieu, Rhône, France

97JD 96WA

Where the Chanson is a step down over the 2021, this 2022 Condrieu Chery is clearly a step up and has Chateau Grillet-like aromas and flavors of white peach, honeyed flowers, incredible minerality, and a kiss of rose petals. This medium to full-bodied, salty, mineral-laced, incredibly pure Condrieu is absolutely magical today yet will easily evolve for a decade.

97 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Mar 2024)

Perret's emblematic cuvée, the 2022 Condrieu Chery, is purer and more ethereal than Clos Chanson due to its granite and sandy soils. Evoking aromas of pear, menthol, white peach, flowers and delicate notes of spices, it's full-bodied, satiny and enveloping with a multidimensional but weightless core of fruit, racy acids and a long, precise and intensely mineral, saline and vibrant finish. Currently structured and reserved, its evolution in the bottle promises to be compelling. This is a must-have for aficionados of profound, precise and pure Rhône Valley whites.

2020 Andre Perret Chery (750ml)

This Chéry cuvée certainly has greater aromatic intensity than André's cuvée classique. It's very well balanced and vibrant, with surprising concentration on the palate. Lovely, bright acidity and a mineral touch leads to a long finish. A very promising Chéry at this stage. 20% new oak.

96 points, Matt Walls, Decanter (Sep 2021)

The 2020 Condrieu Chery doesn't have the sheer richness of the Chanson and is more mineral-laced, with a gorgeous perfume of white peach, tangerine, pineapple, and chalky minerality. Medium to full-bodied, this balanced, sensationally pure Condrieu will put on a touch of richness with a year in bottle and will keep nicely for 7-8 years. It's another incredible effort from one of the masters of the variety!
