Read More "Another terrific vintage chez Bouchard..." - William Kelley, Wine Advocate From "the most underrated commune in the Côte D'Or" according to Neal Martin of Vinous, the refined 91-point 2019 Bouchard Pere & Fils Beaune 1er Cru du Chateau is a can't-miss for Burgundy collectors seeking outstanding value, revealing fragrant ripe red fruit hinting of earthy spice with smooth tannins on a long, velvety finish, conveyed in perfect provenance to enjoy over the next decade and affordably priced for stocking the cellar. Produced at Bouchard since 1907, the 2019 Beaune 1er Cru du Chateau was sourced from 26 hectares of organically farmed estate vineyards across 17 parcels in the Beaune premier cru planted in a range of pebble and marl limestone soils that reflect the region's varied terroir, each of the individual parcels ranging from Savigny-lès-Beaune to its border with Pommard fermented separately. Crafted by Bouchard's renowned long-time cellar master Frederic Weber, the beautifully balanced 2019 Beaune 1er Cru Du Chateau was aged for 14 months in around 30% new French oak, yielding a delicious and "remarkably accessible bottling" according to Wine Advocate's William Kelley with elegant, harmonious tannins promising another decade of enjoyment.

B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More From "an exceptional Burgundy vintage" according to Decanter's Charles Curtis, these 2020 Domaine Chapuis selections are high-scoring, small-production gems from an under-the-radar estate in the Côte de Beaune, offering outstanding value among Burgundy's skyrocketing prices and well-priced for Burgundy lovers to stock the cellar. Located at the edge of the tiny village of Aloxe-Corton at the base of the Corton hill, Domaine Chapuis is a family estate boasting a 170-year history as growers in Burgundy, crafting its wines from 11 hectares of vineyards and aging them in stone cellars dating back to the 14th century. Crafted by sixth generation winemaker Pierre Chapuis, the delicately fragrant, 92-point 2020 Chorey-les-Beaune Blanc boasts "a satiny texture, with plenty of expressive apple and citrus flavors and a racy backbone" according to The Wine Independent's Lisa Perrotti-Brown, the Chardonnay vines planted in sandy, calcareous marl soils that add a hint of minerality to the mouthwatering finish. Called "a wonderful testament to the easy beauty of these less renowned Burgundy appellations" by Inside Bordeaux's Jane Anson, the refined, 94-point 2020 Domaine Chapuis Aloxe Corton 1er Cru was sourced from the three diverse plots of Pinot Noir averaging 45 years of age, revealing fragrant red fruit with "a solid backbone of fine-grained tannins and bold freshness" according to Perrotti-Brown. A "steal of a deal" for a grand cru white Burgundy, the 95-point 2020 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru was sourced from the estate's single-hectare parcel at the highest portion of the Corton Hill and aged on the lees in about 10% new French oak for 12 months with extended time in bottle, yielding a deeply complex grand cru of exceptional finesse "with loads of mineral accents and a long citrusy finish" according to Perrotti-Brown and promising savvy collectors over a decade of pleasurable drinking to come. From an outstanding Burgundy vintage "imbued with remarkable freshness" according to Neal Martin of Vinous, these elegant 2020 Domain Chapuis cuvées are classically styled to transparently express each wine's distinctive terroir, delivering outstanding value for savvy Burgundy lovers who can truly appreciate a great deal.

Read More Of all the new direct-import discoveries to join our portfolio last year, perhaps none reach the heights of quality that Domaine Clos de la Chapelle does. This remarkable domaine under the direction of Pierre Merguey and his American partner Mark O'Connell is still flying under the radar, but they're poised for a big breakout into the elite echelon. The domaine's vineyard holdings are impressive to say the least, centered around their monopole Volnay Clos de la Chapelle 1er Cru. Top to bottom, the 2023s were incredibly impressive on both occasions we tasted them, at Wine Paris in February and again at the domaine in April. The critical press is equally impressed on a consistent basis, as the domaine has racked up solid accolades from Wine Spectator, Burghound, Inside Burgundy, and View From the Cellar. The crown jewel is indeed the "utterly stunning" monopole Volnay 1er Cru Clos de la Chapelle, a 96-point showstopper that's "all about finesse and its silky texture, with ... terrific dimension." The double 95-point Volnay 1er Cru Taillepieds is itself a world-class expression of this hallowed site that can stand toe-to-toe with the likes of d'Angerville and Montille at a fraction of their prices. Gilman exclaims, "I have always loved this terroir since my very earliest days drinking Burgundy and it seems pretty clear to me that today, no one makes a better example of Taillepieds than the team at Clos de la Chapelle!" The JG94 Volany Santentots du Milieu is a bona fide gem in its own. "Remarkably sensual," the 2023 is "a simply great bottle of Santenots du Milieu in the making." The sleeper gem, however, is the Beaune Champs Pimot 1er Cru. The lesser-know lieu-dit turned out a fantastic 2023 with a "complex aromatic constellation" and a "a very good core of fruit, tangy acids, fine focus and balance and a long, suavely tannic finish." It's safe to say we haven't been this excited to introduce a new producer in a long time, and our direct access to the domaine's cellars makes the entire line-up some of the sharpest collectible buys in our Burgundy inventory.

Read More "The 2022 vintage is another tour de force for Bouchard." - William Kelley, Wine Advocate It's no surprise that an iconic, powerhouse domaine like Bouchard had a banner 2022 vintage, with their flagship releases counting among the campaign's sharpest collectible buys. Up and down the entire range, however, you'll find superb efforts like the 93-point Beaune 1er Cru du Chateau, a blend of all 17 of Bouchard's 1er cru parcels that results in a "suave, seamless" expression. Their 1er Cru Teurons parcel also shines in 2022 with an "excellent" rendition that's "built to cellar with grace" according to Kelley. Turning to the domaine's standard bearers, we find a showcase collection of these all-time Burgundy favorites, each one boasting sterling accolades from every corner of the critical sphere. The 2022 Beaune 1er Cru Les Greves "Baby Jesus" lives up this cuvée's lofty reputation, and then some with a pair of 96-point scores from James Suckling and Decanter, as well as effusive praise from pretty much everyone else. "A wine of gorgeous intensity," the 2022 is "a benchmark for the appellation" according to Kelley, and "a robust, serious, and built-to-age" standout per Burghound, who tagged it with his Sweet Spot and Outstanding designations. Serious aficionados should also pay close attention to the "pure and ethereal" Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets Ancienne Cuvée Carnot, a double 95-point jewel available in both 750ml and 1.5L magnum. "This is one exceptionally classy wine, indeed the mouthfeel is pure silk," notes Burghound, "Buy it." Not much more needs to be said, although you can certainly find a litany of additional compliments in its many glowing reviews. When all is said and done, it comes down to the simple fact that Bouchard offers some of the most consistently reliable, cellar-worthy candidates in Burgundy, a trend that holds true across the board in this stellar set of 2022s.
