2020 La Rioja Alta Reserva Vina Alberdi (750ml)
Tempranillo from Rioja, Spain
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

"It is approachable, elegant and ticks all the boxes for this style of wine at an affordable price." - Decanter

La Rioja Alta's Vina Alberdi needs little to no introduction here at B-21. It's been a perennial best-seller for years on end and one of the most consistent values in Spanish wine during that entire span of time. The 93-point 2020 vintage continues the sterling track record of this benchmark overachiever and this reference-point estate.

Forty-year-old vines, expert and precise aging in American oak (a La Rioja Alta specialty), and extended bottle aging before release all contribute to a "lively, harmonious, focused red" that bears the classic Rioja profile while remaining eminently approachable today. Even better the price tag offers the kind of versatility that makes it easy to stack some away in the cellar for a few years or pop the cork tonight – or both.

93JS 92WA 92D 91WS

A classical, typical Rioja Alta red with elegant notes of vanilla, coconut, smoked spices and strawberries. Refined and suave, with fine tannins and a long, creamy finish. Juicy and elegant. Really approachable now, but give it two more years to get more mushroom complexity.

93 points, Zekun Shuai, James Suckling (Aug 2024)

The younger wine here is the 2020 Viña Alberdi, a versatile version of the Haro reds. It was produced with Tempranillo fermented in stainless steel and matured in American oak barrels for two years (it's sold as Reserva in international markets and Crianza in Spain). It has 14% alcohol with a pH of 3.6 and five grams of acidity. It has a classical nose of ripe fruit, American oak and spices, the subtle notes of forest floor, still young. The palate is velvety and very balanced with polished tannins. Approachable but should also age. 650,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2023.

92 points, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate (Feb 2024)

Classic reserva aromas of red berry fruit and generous, chocolatey oak lead to a soft and rounded palate with very well-managed tannins. It is approachable, elegant and ticks all the boxes for this style of wine at an affordable price.

92 points, Beth Willard, Decanter (Mar 2025)

Hints of tobacco, smoke and vanilla are a fragrant thread winding through the baked cherry and raspberry fruit, cocoa powder and red licorice notes on display in this lively, harmonious, focused red. Fine, crisp tannins firm the finish. Drink now through 2030. 650,000 cases made, 15,000 cases imported.

2023 Kelley Fox Pinot Noir Mirabai (750ml)
Pinot Noir from Willamette, Oregon
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

Ever since we caught on to the incredible wines from Willamette Valley rising star Kelley Fox several vintages back, we've seen an avid following develop around her ethereal, precisely crafted wines. Working with the crème de la crème of vineyard sites in Dundee Hills, she's carved out a top spot on the list of the valley's go-to boutique names. Demand is on a steady upward trajectory, but her flagship Mirabai Pinot Noir still delivers the goods for anyone interested in discovering this super-talented winemaker for the first time.

Sourced from a handful of said top Dundee Hills sites (see below), the 2023 is every bit the stylish charmer that we've come to know and love from this bottling. Easygoing yet full of character and nuance, it once again stands as one of the sharpest buys in Oregon Pinot, with a new 93-point review from Wine Advocate to add to its cachet. We just scored a new parcel at exceptional pricing that allows our private clients to load up on a proven performer that will shine now and anytime in the next decade.

94JD 93WA 93V 93JG

The 2023 Pinot Noir Mirabai is ruby red in the glass and evokes wild raspberries, violets, dark stones, and forest floor. Supple and open, it has ripe acidity and fine tannins. Drink 2025-2040.

94 points, Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck (Sep 2025)

Despite its modest price point, the 2023 Pinot Noir Mirabai (a barrel selection) comes from some of the top vineyards in the Dundee Hills. Fifty-two percent comes from own-rooted vines in the Weber Vineyard planted in 1983; 28% comes from Stater Vineyard, where vines were planted on rootstock in 1990; 11% comes from own-rooted vines planted in 1974 and 1984 in Durant Vineyard; and 9% comes from own-rooted vines planted from 1970 to 1988 in the Maresh Vineyard. It was fermented with around 15% whole clusters, and the wine was matured for 10 months in used French oak. It has ringing aromas of rhubarb, blackberry, raspberry, lavender and Angostura bitters, offering botanical undertones as it airs in the glass. The light-bodied palate is vibrant and expressive with wonderfully perfumed fruit, chalky tannins and a long, tremendously layered finish. 1,808 cases were made.

93 points, Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate (Dec 2024)

The 2023 Pinot Noir Mirabai mixes vivid crushed blackberry with bouquet garni, nuances of wet slate and rose petals. Juicy and pure in style, it entices the senses with depths of ripe black cherry and a cascade of autumnal spice. Acidity wins the day—long and staining yet incredibly fresh. The finish tapers off with a lovely licorice tinge that calls the taster back to the glass.

93 points, Eric Guido, Vinous (Jul 2025)

The 2023 Mirabai bottling of pinot noir from Kelley Fox hails from different vineyards in this vintage than was the case last year. The fruit composition of the 2023 version is fifty-two percent from the Weber Vineyard, twenty-eight percent from the Stater Vineyard, eleven percent Durant Vineyard and nine percent Maresh Vineyard; hence the Dundee Hills AVA for the wine this year. It tips the scales at 13.5 percent in 2023 and included about fifteen percent whole clusters. The wine offers up a beautifully pure and sappy nose of red and black cherries, sweet beetroot, roses, peonies, gamebird, a complex base of soil tones just a hint of black tea and gentle savory notes in the upper register. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, precise and vibrant, with a lovely depth of sappy fruit, an excellent foundation of soil, beautifully integrated tannins, excellent balance and a long, complex and lifted finish. This is meant to be Kelley’s most user-friendly bottling of pinot noir out of the blocks and the 2023 is certainly already very easy to enjoy. That said, it is still effectively quite primary in personality and truly deserves at least five or six years in the cellar to allow its secondary layers of complexity to emerge. It is a beautiful wine in the making.

2023 Beringer Chardonnay Private Reserve (750ml)
Chardonnay from Napa, California
B-21 Top Recommendation

"Quite a powerful wine that is carried by pure acidity and freshness." - James Suckling

Beringer's Private Reserve line is arguably one of the greatest sources of consistent quality for price in Napa Valley and has been for the past three decades. The stellar 2023 vintage provided plenty of opportunity to continue that track record, and the latest release of the Private Reserve Chardonnay does not disappoint. In fact, it's set to be a reference-point rendition of this all-time fan favorite 96 points from James Suckling and 95 points from Jeb Dunnuck.

Sourced almost entirely from the historic Gamble Ranch in Oakville, this is Napa Chardonnay through and through, yet it stays well clear of the excesses that have sometimes plagued the category in recent, namely over-ripeness and heavy-handed oak. "Medium to full-bodied, it's pure, balanced, and layered, with wonderfully integrated oak," notes Dunnuck, "It brings ample power and richness while staying light on its feet." That about sums up the Beringer style and the brilliant 2023 Napa vintage, and it gives ample reason to stock up.

96JS

Aromas of lemon confit, yellow apples, baking spices and grilled pineapple. The palate is full-bodied with a creamy texture and bright acidity, giving flavors of grapefruit, lanolin, apple tart and honeysuckle. Quite a powerful wine that is carried by pure acidity and freshness.

Champagne Lallier Reflexion R.021 Brut (750ml)
From Champagne, France
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

Champagne Lallier's widespread vineyard sources through the grand cru villages of the Côte de Blancs and Montagne de Reims, especially in their home base of Äy, allow them to create these wonderfully pure, eminently approachable vintage expressions that somehow remain unbelievably priced for everyday enjoyment. The Reflexion R.021 is a classic showcase of the 2021 Champagne vintage's fresh, incisive style, with 30% reserve wines from the powerful 2020 vintage adding just the right level of backbone and depth for a "substantial palate" that's simultaneously "precise and youthful" according to James Suckling. Like previous releases, the wine is made is to convey a snapshot of the growing season, and the R.021 does that with great clarity, but it's also made primarily to put smiles on the faces of a wide audience of sparkling wine fans, something that's easily achieved with it's outstanding, sub-$35 price tag. If you keep a "house" Champagne on rotation, this is your new candidate. If you need a celebratory toast for a large crowd for a low-key steal of a deal, this is your pick. Either way, Lallier's R.021 is a gem to stock up on.

92JS 91WS

Restrained and citrusy with lemon peel and stone fruit. Slightly toasty with a leafy touch. Quite frothy bubbles with light body, a substantial palate and a crisp finish, precise and youthful. Drink now.

92 points, James Suckling (Jul 2025)

Firm acidity is enmeshed in the fine, creamy mousse and flavors of Honeycrisp apple, white cherry, pink grapefruit pith, green almond and mineral, which expand nicely through the focused finish. Sip and enjoy, but this would also pair well with food; try grilled seafood. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. Disgorged October 2024. Drink now through 2028.

2025 La Cana Albariño (750ml)
Albarino from Rias Baixas, Spain
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

If you've been a fan of Spanish wine over the past ten years or so, you've probably been waiting for Albariño to get the attention it deserves on the world stage, and while it still takes a back seat to Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and the like, the best examples are still shining brightly and only getting better with each passing vintage.

La Caña has long been a benchmark producer of this one-of-a-kind varietal, working with top-notch sites in the Salnès sub-zone of Rías Baixas, widely considered ground zero for the most quintessential expressions. Year after year, their entry-level bottling far outperforms its price point in the critical press, with all the customary bright citrus and tropical fruit, vibrant acidity, and textured charm that Albariño aficionados have come to know and love. While the 2024 has yet to be reviewed professionally, we recently got a chance to try it with importer Jorge Ordoñez, and we can confidently say this rendition picks up right where previous vintages have left off, with more glowing praise no doubt in store in the near future. Meanwhile, you have a great opportunity to stock up on a fan-favorite crowd pleaser that seems tailor-made for summer soirées and warm days by the pool, so don't hesitate to lock in at our market-best price.

92RAS

Light gold color. Tangerine and pineapple notes sitting upon a mineral core which gives the wine a racy, complex style, with salinity and vibrancy the best '25's have become known for.

2023 Bedrock Zinfandel Old Vine (750ml)
Zinfandel from California
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

"The 2023 is such a classy offering ...What an absolute delight." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Established in 2007 by the son of Ravenswood founding winemaker Joel Peterson, Bedrock Wine Company's Morgan Twain-Peterson and long-time business partner Chris Cottrell craft their wines from a who's-who list of the region's most historic vineyards, sourcing the old vine Zinfandel from century-old sites throughout Sonoma and Contra Costa counties, including Peterson's own Bedrock Vineyard. Described by Antonio Galloni as "among the most pedigreed vineyard sites anywhere in the world," Bedrock was the first California vineyard to be replanted in 1888 following the devastation of phylloxera, boasting a Zinfandel-dominated field mix planted in volcanic rocks and cobbly loam soil and farmed organically by the Petersons without irrigation. Blending 85% Zinfandel with 7% Carignan, 4% Cinsault and small amounts of other varieties averaging 80 years of age and fermenting with native yeasts, Morgan aged the lush 2023 Bedrock Zinfandel Old Vine in a combination of French oak and Austrian oak puncheons and foudres with about 10% new, yielding a fresh and delicately spiced Zinfandel with layered fine tannins that's ready to enjoy and will continue to mature gracefully over the next few years.

Crafted by "one of the most talented winemakers of his generation" according to Galloni, the impressive, 93-point 2023 Bedrock Zinfandel Old Vine is blended from many of the iconic sites that go into Bedrock's single-vineyard Zins at a fraction of their price, delivering a transparent expression of rich, old-vine Zinfandel for an unbeatable value.

93JD 92WS 92JS 91V

The 2023 Zinfandel Old Vine was raised in 600-gallon foudre with a small proportion (8%) in new oak, and it’s roughly 90% Zinfandel along with an eclectic field mix. The nose opens to bright peppery spice, fresh cut flowers, and black raspberries, with deeper notes of fresh sanguine earth coming through. The palate is full-bodied yet restrained, with a detailed structure and length with a mountainous feel. It’s a great lens into the range they produce here at Bedrock and a tremendous value. Drink 2025-2032.

93 points, Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck (Jul 2025)

Sleek and juicy, with fan-friendly cherry, raspberry, toasty spice and briar accents that glide on the zesty finish. Drink now through 2033. 8,000 cases made.

92 points, Tim Fish, Wine Spectator (Aug 2025)

An expressive, fruity and well-balanced wine that shows the rich berry aromas of the grape variety while keeping a slightly tangy, lightly tannic texture that’s refreshing. Raspberries, red cherries, red plums and hints of sage and orange peel. Made from vines with an average age of 80 years. Drink now.

92 points, Jim Gordon, James Suckling (Mar 2025)

The 2023 Zinfandel Old Vine is a very pretty wine. Floral, spice-inflected and lifted, the 2023 is such a classy offering. In this vintage, the Old Vine Zinfandel is incredibly varietal. Even so, it is sensual, silky and wonderfully inviting. The blend is built on a core of fruit from Sodini, Bedrock, Teldeschi and Evangelho, with smaller bits from several other properties in the portfolio. Most of the wine is aged in neutral vessels, with a well-judged touch of spice from some new oak that adds flair. What an absolute delight.

2016 Chateau Lynch-Bages (750ml)
Cabernet Sauvignon from Pauillac, Bordeaux, France
B-21 Top Recommendation

Lynch-Bages is pure magic in 2019....A towering Pauillac, the 2019 Lynch Bages will make a great addition to any cellar…Don't miss it.

Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Savvy Bordeaux collectors won't need convincing – the thrilling 100pt. 2019 Chateau Lynch-Bages continues this estate's epic run of exceptional quality, elegantly balancing concentrated lush dark fruit with grippy, mouth-coating tannins on "an extremely persistent, almost Lafite-like finish" according to Inside Bordeaux's Jane Anson who declares it "a great Lynch-Bages of the modern era," offered at an equally spectacular value and delivered ex-Chateau in original wooden cases of six.

Owned by the Cazes family for nearly a century, visitors to Chateau Lynch-Bages encounter an almost fairytale-like village complete with a Michelin-starred restaurant and luxury hotel, its stunning new contemporary winemaking facility designed by noted architects and sons of the masterful architect I.M. Pei, creator of the once controversial glass Louvre pyramid in Paris. Spanning 100 hectares planted mostly to Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller parcels of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the vineyards are located on a range of terroirs across Pauillac, from close to the Chateau on the gravelly Bages plateau to bordering St. Julien next to Chateau Pichon Lalande, the estate's vines for the Grand Vin averaging 30 years of age with some as old as 60 years. Under the direction of fourth generation Jean-Charles Cazes, the powerful 2019 Chateau Lynch-Bages was aged for 18 months in 75% new French oak, revealing intense, dark Cabernet aromatics described as "gorgeous from the start" by the Wine Spectator's James Molesworth, embodying the hedonistic Lynch-Bages style with a core of fresh opulent fruit layered over rich, ripe tannins that according to Decanter's Georgina Hindle give "no doubt that this is going to age slowly and for many decades."

99JA 97WA 97WI 97V 97WS 97JS

Muscular but finely-tuned, with a floral, rose-stem edge to Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant flavours that elevates this beyond its surrounding vintages, as is often the case with exceptional 2016s on the Left Bank. Give it time in the glass if you are going near it any time soon, and allow the brambled fruits to appear, with creamy black cherry and damson puree on full display finessed with pencil lead, plum pudding, liqourice and slate-strewn tannins that give a mouth-watering finish. Great stuff, this is one to savour over the long term. 75% new oak.

99 points, Jane Anson (Apr 2022)

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Lynch Bages comes charging out of the gate with pronounced cassis, chocolate-covered cherries, mulberries and menthol notions, backed up by scents of garrigue, tilled soil and a waft of tapenade. Medium to full-bodied, rich and fantastically concentrated, the generous fruit is superbly framed by firm, ripe, grainy tannins with tons of pepper, cinnamon and cloves layers coming through on the finish. Truly, a legendary Lynch Bages!

97+ points, Wine Advocate (Nov 2018)

The 2016 Lynch-Bages is blended from 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot and has a deep garnet color. It is closed to begin, requiring a lot of swirling to unlock notes of blackcurrant pastilles, fresh black plums, and black cherries, plus suggestions of mossy tree bark, truffles, black olives, and lilacs. Medium-bodied, the palate is like a tightly wound spring waiting to explode, featuring layers of minerals and crunchy black fruits, supported by very firm, grainy tannins and bold freshness, finishing with epic length and energy. When this opens up, in another 5-7 years, be prepared to be blown away!

97+ points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Independent (Dec 2022)

The 2016 Lynch-Bages is primal but concentrated on the nose with blueberry and crushed violet scents. This is powerful, sensual and utterly glorious. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins, assertive and structured yet retaining ample freshness. There is a subtle marine note that comes through on the finish. One of the most profound releases from the estate in recent years...maybe ever? Tasted at the Lynch-Bages vertical at the château.

97 points, Neal Martin, Vinous (Jul 2023)

This is built for the cellar, with a generous core of kirsch, raspberry paste and plum preserve flavors waiting to unfurl. Will take time, due to the licorice snap, roasted apple wood and sweet tobacco elements draped over the fruit. Should meld with age, as the structure is invigorating in feel, showing both acidity and tannins in lockstep with the fruit. Best from 2025 through 2040.

97 points, James Molesworth, Wine Spectator (Mar 2019)

Very rich and exotic with blackberry, black-tea, graphite and lead-pencil aromas. Full-bodied, dense and structured with lots of ripe tannins and a long, flavorful finish of currants and forest floor, combined with fresh mushrooms and bark. Needs four to five years to show its true potential. Try after 2024.

100JD 99V

The 2019 Château Lynch-Bages is stunningly good, and it's going to be interesting to compare this to the 2018 over the coming decades. Based on 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, and the balance Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, brought up in 75% new French oak, its dense purple hue is followed by an incredible bouquet of pure crème de cassis, freshly sharpened cedar pencil, spring flowers, smoke, and graphite, with an almost liqueur of rocks-like minerality. A massive, incredibly concentrated Lynch-Bages, Jean-Charles has hit a home run in the vintage, and this sensational wine has building, perfect tannins, insane purity, and a finish that won't quit. It has the purity, finesse, balance, and depth to offer pleasure not only today but to evolve for 40 to 50 years. Smart money will hide these for a good 7-8 years, but wow, what a wine. Bravo.

100 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Apr 2022)

The 2019 Lynch Bages is every bit as magnificent from bottle as it was from barrel, if not moreso. What a wine! Towering and vertical in its bearing, the 2019 is a total stunner. There is plenty of Lynch Bages charm, but what distinguishes the 2019 most is its spine of tannin and energy. Time in the glass brings out sweet red cherry, plum, blood orange and pomegranate and mint. The 2019 is a great, great, great Lynch Bages. It reminds me of the epic 1989, but with the youthful grip of this vintage. A towering Pauillac, the 2019 Lynch Bages will make a great addition to any cellar.

A wine with great beauty and finesse. Such elegance and ethereal quality for this estate. Full body, with ultra-fine tannins and a juicy delicious finish. Long and beautiful. This is the best Lynch in a long, long time. I love the precision here. Try in 2018.

98 points, James Suckling (Feb 2013)

Still a saturated ruby-black in hue, the 2010 Lynch-Bages offers up aromas of rich cassis fruit mingled with hints of pencil shavings, loamy soil and cigar wrapper. Full-bodied, deep and muscular, it's rich and layered, with a concentrated core of fruit that's framed by firm, powdery tannins and lively acids. The most brooding, backward Lynch-Bages of the decade and one of the real successes of the vintage, this is a vibrant, tightly wound wine that is still an infant at age 10. Readers with bottles in their cellars might try one now out of curiosity, but this 2010 won't begin to hit its stride until age 20.

97 points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate (Issue # 259 - Feb 2022)

Roasted cedar, tobacco and bay leaf notes start off this structured but lively bottling, with intense currant, blackberry and black cherry flavors at the core. The iron-laced grip and pleasantly austere plum pit and licorice snap accents fill in on the tar-tinged finish. Great range, character and typicity. If you ever need to explain Pauillac to someone, give them this. Best from 2018 through 2037. 25,000 cases made.

96 points, James Molesworth, Wine Spectator (Mar 2013)

This sumptuous wine is driven by perfectly ripe fruit as well as dense, dusty and dry tannins. Great swathes of blackberry sweep across the palate, followed by juicy acidity. Such a combination will make this impressive wine a delight to drink in 10 years and beyond.

Powerful, rich, tannins that are chewy and physical in the mouth. Liquourice bud, turmeric root, cloves, rose stems, with tight blackcurrant and softer blackberry fruits. The muscular structure of the appellation and the concentration of Lynch Bages add a more serious side to the generosity of the 2009 vintage, and together they make something very special. This is begining to open up, with plenty more to give. 70% new oak.

98 points, Jane Anson (Apr 2022)

The medium to deep garnet colored 2009 Lynch Bages is boldly scented of crème de cassis, blackberry pie and baked plums with chocolate box, incense and underbrush suggestions plus a waft of bay leaves. Medium to full-bodied, taut and well sustained in the mouth, it has a firm, grainy texture and a lively backbone lifting the black fruit core to a nice long finish.

96 points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate (Mar 2019)

Tight and backward, this has dense, almost chewy layers of fig, currant and plum cake behind a very solid wall of cedar, roasted vanilla and charcoal notes. There's serious grip on the finish, with an iron edge that won't quit. Best from 2015 through 2035. 31,500 cases made.

96 points, James Molesworth, Wine Spectator (Mar 2012)

#93 - Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2012

A dense, immense, solidly powerful wine. The ripest fruit overflows, paralleling the dark, solid tannins. As so often, Lynch-Bages is a blockbuster, dark and concentrated, with immense aging potential.

96 points, Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast (Feb 2012)

A powerful and ripe wine with a wide-screen personality, this makes a very bold statement without becoming a jot heavy. Serious tannins at the long finish suggest this has long-term aging potential. Drink now with a big steak or hold. (Horizontal Tasting, London, 2019)

"This is a superb wine in any vintage." - Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate

You many not know the name Kevin Judd, but you certainly know his contribution to the wine world. As the long-time winemaker at Cloudy Bay, he's done more than anyone to put New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc on the world wine map. Having long since moved on from that New Zealand icon, he's spent the past two decades or so making his absolutely brilliant Greywacke wines, which have become all-time Kiwi best-sellers in their own right.

Year in, year out, the flagship Marlborough Sauv Blanc is a tremendous effort that puts the very best qualities of the category on display, and the newly arrived 2025 rendition does not disappoint, led by a resounding 94-point score from Wine Advocate. James Suckling also chimes in, calling it "A flavorful, focused and textural sauvignon blanc ... Lively and succulent, with a precise palate and a long finish." Judd's no-nonsense approach and unwavering commitment to his craft make this not only an excellent value but also a benchmark expression capable of performing at the highest level for many years to come. In other words, don't think twice and just stack it by the case. You'll be glad you did!

94WA 93JS 92WS

The 2025 Sauvignon Blanc leads with a soft nose of musk sticks and brine, green apple skins, wet linen and green olive tapenade. In the mouth, the wine is tightly coiled and yet textured by pithy phenolics. The length of the flavor is long, as we have come to expect from Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc. This is a superb wine in any vintage. Greywacke is a member of the Appellation Marlborough Wine (AMW). 13% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

94 points, Erin Larkin, Wine Advocate (Apr 2026)

A flavorful, focused and textural sauvignon blanc with papayas, limes and stones on the nose. Medium-bodied with bright acidity. Lively and succulent, with a precise palate and a long finish. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

93 points, James Suckling (Mar 2026)

Offers juicy, fleshy peach and pineapple flavors on a sleek and mouthwatering frame, with notes of lemon sage and lemon verbena, plus whiffs of candied ginger, matcha and jasmine. Gains intensity and expands further on the finish. Drink now through 2035. 10,000 cases imported.

The 2015 Lynch-Bages has a very complex bouquet with layers of blackberry and bilberry fruit, crushed stone, cedar and graphite. It becomes earthier with aeration, with a hint of cough candy in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins. This is intense, backward, almost surly, yet the finish has incredible precision and persistence. Not to be underrated. Tasted at the Lynch-Bages vertical at the château.

96 points, Neal Martin, Vinous (Jul 2023)

This vintage was ideal for the rich style that this estate has made its own. This wine is full bodied and ripe with black-currant and dark berry fruits. The tannins fall into the cushioned wine with ease and richness. Of course, the wine should be aged, so wait until 2026.

96 points, Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast (Feb 2018)

Brambly and attractive ripe blackberries and red-plum aromas with some floral accents, too. The palate has a very plush, polished and regal shape as tannins frame up a core of ripe black fruit. Succulent, impressive finish. Best from 2022.

95 points, James Suckling (Feb 2018)

The inky colored 2015 Château Lynch-Bages is a seriously impressive Pauillac that’s up with the crème de la crème of the appellation in 2015. Notes of ripe blackcurrants, caramelized cherries, tobacco leaf and a kiss of lead pencil all emerge from this textbook Pauillac that has medium to full-bodied richness, notable concentration, and building structure. Made from 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot that saw 75% new barrels, it needs 5-7 years of cellaring and will be one of the longer-lived wines from the Médoc.

94+ points, Jeb Dunnuck (Nov 2017)

This has an ample core of plum, fig and blackberry compote flavors, underlined liberally with graphite and smoldering tobacco notes. Fleshy and focused, with ample grip through the juniper- and tar-accented finish. Well-built. Best from 2023 through 2038.

94 points, James Molesworth, Wine Spectator (Mar 2018)

Excellent quality, but a little less depth through the mid palate than the 2014 or 2016 - making it one of the rare wines where the 2015 vintage is not beating out the 2014 in a vertical. Could simply be that it is closed down right now, as those Pauillac tannins can be pretty fierce in the early days. Certainly as it opens the texture deepens and widens, and you find coils of bilberry and raspberry fruits with waves of smoked earth, sage and saffron spice. 75% new oak.

2023 Patrice Rion Cote de Nuits Villages Vieilles Vignes (750ml)
Pinot Noir from Côtes de Nuits, Burgundy, France
B-21 Top Recommendation

One of our top additions to our direct-import portfolio in the past two years is undoubtedly Domaine Michele & Patrice Rion, a consistently excellent property now run by Patrice's son Maxime. The domaine is on a true roll of late, resulting in benchmark renditions from their holdings in Vosne, Chambolle, and Nuits. Garnering generous accolades from Burgundy's three most influential critical voices, the 2023s follow suit on the equally stunning 2022s, highlighted by their trio of 1er crus from Nuits-St-Georges, which stand with elite company of the appellation in names like Gouges, l'Arlot, and Chevillon, but at a fraction of their prices thanks to our direct access to the domaine's cellars.

Each one is a pure reflection of its Nuits-St-Georges terroir and the outstanding 2023 vintage, offering undeniable collectible appeal for the cellar. The "harmony and beauty" of the 1er Cru Clos des Argillieres kicks it off with 96-point potential from Jasper Morris, while the "lovely" Les Hautes Pruliers, from a top-of-slope parcel in the famed 1er cru, shows 94-point potential per Neal Martin and quintessential appellation character. The crown-jewel of the domaine, however, is the singular 1er Cru Clos St-Marc from a monopole parcel of 60 year old vines just under a hectare in size. With 96-point potential according to Morris and 93-95 points from Neal Martin, the Clos St-Marc is "the Domaine's standout cuvée in 2023—superb," a powerful Nuits with focus and poise that will cruise for two-plus decades.

As great as the NSGs are, don't overlook the "racy, beautifully detailed and solidly concentrated" Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes, a wonderfully suave and savvy buy that can punch with much more expensive expressions, or the stupendous value of the sub-$40 Cote-de-Nuits Village, which offers solid proof that "Rion takes things seriously at every level of their line-up."

We're thrilled to present these impressive, under-the-radar Cote-de-Nuits standouts to our Burgundy clients at our unbeatable, domaine-direct pricing, so don't miss this opportunity to load your cellar with some of the sharpest collectible buys in the acclaimed 2023 vintage.

Rion’s 2023 Côte de Nuits Village Vieilles Vignes slots in exactly where you’d expect at this stage in quality hierarchy. Mostly from vines in Comblanchien, it offers a solid step up in depth and structure from the Bourgogne Rouge class, the 45-year-old vines providing nice, compact fruit character and bracing tannins to support it. The aromatics lean a little darker than the Bons Batons Bourgogne Rouge, with touches of kirsch and mulberry filling out the otherwise red fruit profile, along with dusty soil tones and confident spice notes in the background. As mentioned, the palate offers more structural seriousness than the Bons Batons, as it buckles down in the middle before loosening up again on the finish. The oak is very well integrated (only 5% new), allowing the blackcurrant, red plum, and mulberry flavors to play out with touches of white pepper and crushed rocks underneath. It’s still a bit tightly wound but comes together in beautiful fashion with minimal time and aeration, so don’t hesitate to put a few bottles away for a few years. Like the Bons Batons, the CdN Villages was impressive enough to have us fully convinced that Rion takes things seriously at every level of their line-up, so we had no second thoughts about taking a big position on these wines, which all over-deliver at their respective prices.

91 points, Andrew Kitz, B-21 Burgundy Buyer (Aug 2025)

The 2023 Côte de Nuits-Villages comprises two-thirds fruit purchased from Clombanchien, and the rest Domaine fruit from En Luret lieu-dit. Blackcurrant and raspberry combine nicely on the nose, not concentrated per se, yet showing decent clarity and purity. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly granular texture on the entry, lightly peppered though there are no stems in the blend. Focused and harmonious toward the finish, this is a worthy follow-up to the 2022.

89-91 points, Neal Martin, Vinous (Jan 2025)

This is aromatically similar to the Bon Bâtons but with notably more spice influence. The supple, delicious and energetic medium weight flavors possess a highly seductive, even velvety, texture while displaying very good length and depth on the balanced bitter pit fruit-inflected finish.

We still can't believe our good fortune to have the singularly talented Paolo Cianferoni's Caparsa estate in our direct-import stable. Even more so, we still can't believe these wines are not on everyone's radar, so utterly refined, precise, and authentic are their character and substance.

"Caparsa remains one of Chianti Classico's under-the- radar gems, a small estate known only to relatively small subset of wine lovers. These new releases are nothing short of captivating." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

After a recent tasting of the full range of 2021 Classicos, we fell head over heels with no hesitation, and we went all in on this spectacular trio. The 2021 Chianti Classico Caparsino kicks everything off with its pair of 95-point reviews from Decanter and Antonio Galloni, who praises it as "plush and wonderfully deep right out of the gate" making for "a Riserva of uncommon character and distinction." The Caparsino is brought up entirely in concrete tank to give it the purest Sangiovese character possible, something to be desired when the vineyards and fruit as impeccable as Caparsa's.

After all, Paolo does everything the hard way, which almost always makes the best wines, and we're quite confident in saying that Caparsa is firmly among the elite producers in the region, even if their production and recognition are dwarfed by many of their larger peers. That also means that these are some of the sharpest, cellar-worthy Tuscan wines in our inventory, so you should have no doubts about going big, as they will remain absolutely thrilling expressions for years and years to come.

The 2021 Chianti Classico Riserva Caparsino is plush and wonderfully deep right out of the glass. Silky tannins wrap around a core of dark red cherry/plum fruit. Sweet pipe tobacco, cedar, mint, new leather and blood orange all envelop the palate. Readers will find a Riserva of uncommon character and distinction. Floral overtones extend the potent, layered finish.

2023 Vincent Paris Cornas Granit 60 (750ml)
Syrah from Cornas, Rhône, France

"Vincent Paris continues to craft distinctive, age-worthy Cornas, as evidenced once again during my most recent visit..." - Nicolas Greinacher, Vinous

Our direct-import portfolio has taken some major steps in the past year and landed some big names, and now we can add Cornas icon Vincent Paris to that list. Thanks to some very fortuitous connections, we gained domaine-direct access to this perennial superstar producer and his benchmark wines. The outstanding 2023s have just landed in stock.

Made from Paris' younger parcels on 30% slopes (and now with vines almost 30 years old), the 96-point 2023 Granit 30 exhibits fantastic signature elements of its granitic soils, as well as Paris' ultrafine winemaker's touch. "This is always the most forward and approachable of Paris's cuvées and will put a smile on your face right out of the gate," declares Dunnuck. Paris' wines are renowned for their cellar potential, but that doesn't mean you can't pop and pour the Granit 30 tonight. After all, it's "an accessible Cornas that’s packed with remarkable energy and freshness all the way through," so stocking the cellar is an easy choice.

Next up, as the name suggests, the 97-point 2023 Granit 60 comes from three plots of old-vines on steep granite slopes, densely planted and low-yielding. Paris' winemaking methods are traditional yet meticulous, so he's able to showcase his prime terroir in crystal-clear fashion in each of his wines. There's tons of Cornas soul here, but the wines avoid the rustic, untamed nature that's sometimes associated with this appellation. Instead, we get ""a full-bodied 2023 that's beautifully balanced, elegant, and layered ... another smoking value from this incredibly talented vigneron." according to Dunnuck.

Finally, boasting serious press from prominent voices like Suckling, Dunnuck, and Vinous among others, the 98-point 2023 Geynale is an outstanding collectible proposition that ranks with the region's elite names. This magnificent showstopper, made from the oldest vines in two of Cornas' most prized sites, is "full-bodied on the palate, with ripe tannins, the classic, wild, sauvage character of the appellation, and a great finish," while Wine Spectator declares, "Massive in scale yet achieves perfect harmony between its ripeness, texture and energy."

We brought a staggering number of top-tier domaines into our direct-import fold in 2025, but Vincent Paris might just take the cake. These wines are built to age with incredible panache, so make room, stash a few away, and get ready to enjoy some of the most consistently excellent Northern Rhône Syrahs on the market.

97JS 96JD 95D 94V 93WA 93WS

A dense, juicy, textural and lively Cornas with notes of sweet cherries, raspberries, wild herbs and baking spices. It's medium-bodied with fine tannins providing a silky texture to the succulent fruit. Bright center-palate that’s full of tension and spicy energy, with peppercorns, wild herbs and stones. Mineral and vivid with a long, precise and pure finish. Drink or hold.

97 points, James Suckling (Apr 2025)

The 2023 Cornas Granit 60 is similar to the Granit 30, only with more density and intensity. Black raspberries, cassis, spring flowers, graphite, and subtle spicy, meaty nuances all shine here, and it's a full-bodied 2023 that's beautifully balanced, elegant, and layered. Partially destemmed (70%) and aged in used oak, it's going to be another smoking value from this incredibly talented vigneron.

94-96 points, Jeb Dunnuck (May 2025)

Granit 60 is considerably darker than Granit 30. This has lovely blackberry and cassis notes, with a touch of blackberry eau-de-vie. It has a good sense of ripeness, but finishes firm and dry on a solid base of tannin. A little texture comes from the stems, but overall this is about the fruit, which has good finesse. The finish is long. This is a compact – rather than massive – Cornas, but one with a good sense of balance and freshness. Drink young if you like Cornas tannins, or wait. One-third whole bunches, no new oak.

95 points, Matt Walls, Decanter (Sep 2024)

Juicy grapefruit, orange blossom, red plum, fresh violet and stemmy nuances introduce the 2023 Cornas Granit 60. Rose petal and graphite add more complexity. Built around well-rounded tannins, the 2023 is a full-bodied, seductive Cornas that shines with outstanding purity, freshness and complexity.

92-94 points, Nicolas Greinacher, Vinous (Jan 2025)

Combining power and elegance, the 2023 Cornas Granit 60 is beautiful, revealing aromas of violet, dark berries, grapefruit and spices. Medium- to full-bodied, deeper and more layered than Granit 30, it’s built around a fleshy core of fruit, perfectly framed by velvety, youthful tannins, concluding with a long, perfumed and ethereal finish.

93 points, Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate (May 2026)

A seductive version, featuring licorice and spiced blackberry preserves with concentration and range. Violet perfume wafts through, while lashings of saline, smoked meat, tar and dried herbs make this equally savory. Richly styled and mouthfilling, with tannins nicely sculpted for a smooth feel. Drinking well now, but give this time in the cellar to fully reveal itself. Best from 2028 through 2040. 20 cases imported.

2022 Chateau Lynch-Bages (750ml)
Cabernet Sauvignon from Pauillac, Bordeaux, France

99JD 98JS 97JA 97D

The 2022 Château Lynch-Bages is based on 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, and 3% each of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Its inky purple hue is followed by a sensational Pauillac that has a blockbuster (and classic Lynch-Bages) style in its darker currants, smoke tobacco, lead pencil, and crushed stone-driven aromatics. These carry to a full-bodied, powerful, massively concentrated 2022 that has a dense, layered mid-palate, velvety tannins, flawless balance, and a rare mix of power and elegance. This is a château that’s clearly firing on all cylinders, and this magical beauty will need a decade (or more) to hit the early stages of its prime drinking window. Don't miss it!

99 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Feb 2025)

A terrific Lynch from a hot vintage with blackcurrants, mint, dried lavender, graphite and thyme on the nose and palate. Medium- to full-bodied, it shows fantastic tannins with a lovely texture that reminds me of cashmere, becoming slightly chewy in the finish. Give this four to five years of bottle age. Try after 2028.

98 points, James Suckling (Jan 2025)

Exceptional, liquorice, slate, graphite, pumice stone tannins and a salt scrape on the finish that is key to balancing out this ripe full bodied Lynch. Great stuff, with ageing potential in spades. High alcohol for a Pauillac no question, but this walks the line with grace. 75% new oak for ageing, Nicolas Labenne winemaker.

97 points, Jane Anson (Mar 2025)

Ripe and generous on the palate, this is chewy, crunchy and alive. Ripe fruit is there - chewy and sweet black currants and cherries - fleshy and filling - as is concentration of flavours, but there's a delicate layering of elements which builds the wine on the palate giving power but also focus and precision. Still feels a little shy, with tension there in the funnelling of flavours and a relatively crisp finish but this will elongate in time. Cool blueberries, wet stones, pencil lead and graphite give the mineral touches. No overt heat, oak or spice which also is excellent. One for the long haul. Built with ageing in mind I think.

"Based on this showing, Veyder-Malberg is indeed as mad and as genius as they say he is." - Andrew Kitz, B-21 Austria Buyer

You may not know Peter Veyder-Malberg, but among Austrian wine insiders, he's one of the most iconoclastic, not to mention talented, winemakers in the Wachau. His wines don't get nearly the wider attention that they deserve thanks to his general aversion to having them reviewed professionally (he's not a fan of tagging an arbitrary number onto his wines), so in order to get an idea of how truly special they are, you have to taste them yourself, and that's what B-21 Austria buyer Andrew Kitz recently did with the exceptional 2023s.

Based in the Spitzer Graben, a narrow side valley of the Wachau with a decidedly cooler microclimate, Veyder-Malberg has been marching to the beat of his own drummer since the beginning, and the results are in a class all their own, starting with his "entry-level" Grüner Veltliner Liebedich. Sourced from many of Wachau's most prized sites, including Loibenberg and Hochrain, it's "a quintessential example of Austria’s most famous native grape in every way ... a layered, textured expression that Austrian wine fans shouldn’t miss."

His true genius, however, shines in his single-vineyard wines, like the 2023 Grüner Veltliner Hochrain. Andrew describes a 95-point expression with aromas of "pure, shimmering minerality" and a palate that's "achingly elegant and precise ... a study in restrained intensity and ethereal elegance." Likewise, the 96-point 2023 Riesling Bruck is a remarkable, singular style that could only come from a winemaker like Veyder-Malberg. "Peter Veyder-Malberg’s 2023 Riesling Bruck is simply stunning. Like his other wines, it demands time, it demands proper temperature, and it demands attention. When all three conditions are met, you’re rewarded with a Riesling of absolutely beguiling delicacy, shimmering personality, and generally jaw-dropping finesse."

It bears noting that these are not wines for immediate gratification. They are intellectual to say the least, and the 2023s at the moment are very primary, so patient collectors can confidently stock up knowing there is some tremendous evolution in store. If you're a fan of truly world-class Austrian wines, you need to jump on the Veyder-Malberg train without hesitation.

The 2023 appellation Grüner from Veyder-Malberg is a quintessential example of Austria’s most famous native grape in every way. Sourced from many of Wachau’s most famous sites, including Hochrain, Loibenberg, and others, it opens with a smoky, slightly reductive nose, with reticent notes of volcanic ash and fragrant flowers. The palate is also very mineral at first, with Grüner’s classic white pepper clearly prominent on the finish, but all this changes dramatically with just a little time and air. The minerality on the nose becomes much more refined as the smoky element disappears, the floral tones round out to lilac and peach blossom with accents of Bosc pear and spicy basil. The palate also goes from stridently acidic, almost prickly, to svelte, lithe, and seamless in a matter of minutes. The soils of the lower-slope vineyards are fine and poised on the finish, while fruit flavors of quince, kumquat, and crisp green apple make for a layered, textured expression that Austrian wine fans shouldn’t miss.

98JS 96D 96JD 95WA 95V 94WS

Smoky and meaty, with intense wild herb character, this is classic Cornas, but with modern purity and precision. Giant concentration and brilliance on the very compact and still tightly wound, medium- to full-bodied palate. Extremely fine tannins. Even at this very early stage in the wine's life, the finish has tremendous spiciness. From a single parcel of 50-year-old vines. Drinkable now, but best from 2027.

98 points, Stuart Pigott, James Suckling (Apr 2025)

Beautiful nose, very lifted, with violets, black olive, blackberry and cassis. Has a good sense of fullness and ripeness on the palate – it's full, powerful, fresh and driving with a good, robust tannic frame and a long finish. It's not as massive as some years, but very well balanced. A Cornas with lovely finesse of fruit and enjoyably robust tannins. It doesn't have the concentration of the more powerful years, but it's still very good, and true to place. 100% whole bunches, no new oak.

96 points, Matt Walls, Decanter (Sep 2024)

The 2023 Cornas La Geynale is clearly a standout. Rocking levels of ripe red, blue, and black fruits, peppery herbs, violet, game, and rare meat-like aromatics all shine here, and it's full-bodied on the palate, with ripe tannins, the classic, wild, sauvage character of the appellation, and a great finish. Fermented with 100% whole clusters and aged in used oak, it's going to need 4-6 years of bottle age, but it's beautiful.

94-96+ points, Jeb Dunnuck (May 2025)

Fermented with whole clusters, the 2023 Cornas La Geynale is another success at this address. Unfurling from the glass with aromas of violet, dark berries, mulberries, spices and lead pencil mingled with licorice, it’s medium- to full-bodied, dense and generous, built around a fleshy, well-balanced core of fruit framed by velvety tannins and a seamless structure, concluding with a long, mineral finish. Purer and without phenolic elements that obscure its telluric identity, this captures the essence of La Geynale.

95 points, Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate (May 2026)

The seductive, intricate perfume of the 2023 Cornas La Geynale suggests that what comes next will be a total delight. Hauntingly floral, the 2023 showcases prominent rose water, violet and orange blossom mixed with raspberry compote, licorice and a touch of graphite. Full-bodied, powerful and deep, the 2023 simply says, "Watch me." I will!

93-95 points, Nicolas Greinacher, Vinous (Jan 2025)

There’s a meaty, smoky, peppery edge to this salty, powerhouse Cornas. Massive in scale yet achieves perfect harmony between its ripeness, texture and energy. Juniper, black pepper, grilled garrigue and apple wood smoke play out over the persistent finish, held in check by fine-yet-muscular tannins and firming spine of iron. Excellent. Best from 2028 through 2040. 20 cases imported.

Peter Veyder-Malberg’s 2023 Riesling Bruck is simply stunning. Like his other wines, it demands time, it demands proper temperature, and it demands attention. When all three conditions are met, you’re rewarded with a Riesling of absolutely beguiling delicacy, shimmering personality, and generally jaw-dropping finesse. The Bruck is cool and shy at first, but as it airs out, the mica-schist bedrock and 350m elevation show their stuff. An incredible core of head-turning, perfumed floral aromas and crystal-clear minerality defies description, with secondary notes of kaffir lime leaf, lilies, and cardamom spice eventually coming out. The filigreed, laser-precise palate is a thing of almost surreal beauty, completely enthralling yet weightless in feel and texture. Again, the nascent complexity is really something to get lost in – if you pay attention to it. More crystalline minerality is the foundation for soaring, high-note floral flavors like iris, honeysuckle, and geranium. The fruit is almost an afterthought, but notes of melon rind, lime zest, and yuzu are integrated so well into all the mineral/floral complexity, but they really pop on the medium-length finish. I will admit, it was so light and delicate at first that I didn’t know what to think, but it quickly blossomed into one of the most intriguing Austrian Rieslings I’ve had in a while. Based on this showing, Veyder-Malberg is indeed as mad and as genius as they say he is.

2005 Chateau Lynch-Bages (750ml)
Cabernet Sauvignon from Pauillac, Bordeaux, France

Textbook, with mouthfilling and slightly gutsy black currant, fig and blackberry fruit flavors bound together by singed cedar, iron and tobacco notes. Features a tug of loam followed by a second wave of fruit through the finish. This is just starting to stretch out.—Blind '01/'03/'05 Bordeaux retrospective (December 2017). Best from 2020 through 2040. 35,000 cases made.

96 points, James Molesworth, Wine Spectator (2018)

Classic Lynch-Bages with just a bit of extra power and richness. While the tannins are structured, it is the velvety fruit that rolls around the mouth that is the most dominant character. It is coming together into a wine that will be big and dense, but never over the top.

96 points, Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast (Jun 2008)

There's a relaxed feel to this wine. Cazes's team can dress Lynch-Bages in the black-tie formality of a first growth, but the wine is still lovely-a touch of gaminess makes it friendly rather than ponderous. There's something ethereal about its tannins, like a chocolate truffle melting in the mouth. (Daniel Llose used 80 percent new oak for this vintage; the yields were short so there were more new barrels to go around, and at a tannic index of 82, the wine could handle it). Pure black cherry flavor saturates the wine with freshness; the complexity is intriguing and silken rather than aggressive. This should be readily accessible at ten to 20 years of age and should thrive for years after.

96 points, Wine & Spirits (Oct 2008)

A meaty and decadent Lynch with very ripe currant aromas on the nose. Full body, velvety-textured tannins and a powerful finish. It shows so much structure and fruit yet remains polished and focused. Lovely now to drink but better in 2017.

96 points, James Suckling (Nov 2015)

Dark rich ruby, smoked campfire and grilled cedar aromatics, a brilliant Pauillac that is still full of tannic archicture and frame. I had this out of half bottle last year and it was tasting more approachable than this, no doubt because the bottle size helped things to evolve. One of the few where I would suggest not drinking this yet, even the fruit feels muscular right now, and it needs another few years to translate this hidden power into the seductive, rip-roaring wine that is so clearly in there. 80% new oak, Daniel LLose winemaker. This was the last year that Jean-Michel Cazes was in charge before handing over to his son Jean-Charles.

96 points, Jane Anson (Sep 2022)

The 2005 Lynch-Bages is a surprising wine. Whereas so many 2005s have begun to enter their first plateau of early maturity, the 2005 comes across as still young and in need of further cellaring! The purity of the fruit is striking. Readers who want to get the full Lynch-Bages experience will have to wait at least a few more years. The 2005 is a wine of substance and depth, with all of the raciness that is typical of this wine. It is one of the dark horses of the vintage, and still has room to go. Impressive.

95+ points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Apr 2021)

The 2005 Lynch-Bages is composed of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-brick in color, it strides out of the glass with classic notes of warm cassis, baked black plums, and cedar chest, leading to suggestions of tapenade, dried Provence herbs, smoked meats, and the faintest waft of cigar box. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is youthful and taut, with a solid backbone of grainy tannins and lively line preserving the fruit beautifully, delivering a wine of great purity. The finish is long and fruity. Delicious now in this youthful flush, it has the backbone to cellar a further 20 years+.

94 points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Independent (Jul 2022)

This wine redefines Cornas elegance. So much floral and fresh berry charm on the nose, yet so much mineral intensity and energy on the very focused, medium-bodied palate. The crystalline finish just doesn't want to stop. Drink or hold.

96 points, Stuart Pigott, James Suckling (Apr 2025)

The 2023 Cornas Granit 30 shows beautifully, with both red and blue fruits as well as leafy herbs, spice, and exotic floral notes. Coming from the lower slopes near the village, it's medium to full-bodied, has a pure, layered mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a great finish. This is always the most forward and approachable of Paris's cuvées and will put a smile on your face right out of the gate.

91-93 points, Jeb Dunnuck (May 2025)

Shows classic Cornas muscle and aromatic character, with plum and smoked bacon notes revealing salty depth and energy. The tannins are nicely softened at the edges, while violet and lavender add beautiful floral lift. Cool stone minerality and white pepper course from start to finish. Elegant and serious. Drink now through 2040. 60 cases imported.

This has a nice sense of freshness; there's a touch of roundness on the palate, the fruit is certainly ripe and the acidity quite marked. The Cornas tannins are present, giving a cleansing sensation on the tongue. Medium length, compact, ripe and juicy, this will drink well young. Almost all destemmed, perhaps 5% whole bunches. Tasted from a five-year-old barrel.

92 points, Matt Walls, Decanter (Sep 2024)

The 2023 Cornas Granit 30 is exquisite, unwinding with alluring rose water, blood orange, black cherry, licorice and stemmy subtleties. Round and refreshing, the 2023 is shaping up to be an accessible Cornas that’s packed with remarkable energy and freshness all the way through to the juicy finish.

Perfumed and lively, the 2023 Cornas Granit 30 wafts from the glass with aromas of violet, dark berries, plum, spices and pepper. Hampden Estate 8yr Single Estate Rum (750ml)
From Wakefield, Trelawney, Jamaica
B-21 Top Recommendation

Among rum fanatics, the Hampden name instills a sense of reverence and, you might even say, joy thanks to their incredible, single-estate expressions that are known the world over. The estate's storied history as a sugar plantation and distillery dates back 265 years, but it was only in 2010 that they began aging their rums on site, and only in 2018 that they began bottling under their own label. In that brief span of time, the estate's official bottlings have become some of the most coveted and desired in the rum scene. Although we've endured a bit of a Hampden absence for a while, the brand is back in action at B-21 with its two most beloved releases, the 8 Year Old Single Estate and the HLCF Classic Pure Single Estate.

The 8 Year's widely recognized green label is a symbol of excellence to Jamaican rum fans everywhere, as the light ester OWH marque is a perfect introduction to Jamaican rum category, offering a classic profile that isn't overwhelmingly funky or industrial with esters at just 40-60 g/HLPA . Still, the 8 Year is "loaded with aromatic and flavor complexity" according to B-21 Spirits Buyer Andrew Kitz. The intensely fruity nose is accented with numerous secondary nuances, while the palate offers just enough for funk fans to smile about without turning away the novice taster who's taking their first foray into Jamaican rum. As Andrew notes, it's "one of the iconic Jamaican rums that made me a fully converted rum fanatic, [and] it’s every bit as compelling as it’s always been."

Taking things in a completely different direction, the HLCF Classic shows Hampden's higher-ester chops in all their glory. At 400-600 g/HLPA, it offers "the quintessential counterpart to the 8 Year’s relatively lighter, gentler personality." As the Beverage Testing Institute declares in their 97-point review, "this is not for the faint of heart or amateur imbiber, but hot damn is this delicious and complex; would happily sit with a bottle all day." A big industrial funk character is the foundation of the profile, offering "stunning complexity" on the nose and a deeply resonant, multi-dimensional palate. As Andrew notes, "those who appreciate the style will absolutely go head over heels for it."

Jamaican rum is a category unto itself, and Hampden occupies a very special place in that sphere, so when we say these are must-have expressions for any fan of the category, we surely mean it.

One of the iconic Jamaican rums that made me a fully converted rum fanatic, Hampden’s flagship 8 Year Old remains a reference-point in the category. The lighter ester mark doesn’t bring as much of the customary industrial funk, but the 8 Year is loaded with aromatic and flavor complexity. The nose is full to the brim with deep fruits – cooked apricot, peach, orange marmalade, and poached pear. Further complexity emerges as orange cookies, light sawdust, cinnamon, and light caramel. With time, the huge fruit profile grows much more tropical in character. The medium-weight palate offers much more funk than the nose, though still relatively light considering the marque. Candied orange and ginger take center stage, with faint hints of tropical stone fruit in the background. An assertive herbal/medicinal streak hits the mid-palate as bright basil before moving to a medium-long finish inflected with toffee, treacle, and root beer. It’s as every bit as compelling as it’s always been.

Dusty, savory, baked aromas of high ester Jamaican funking and delicious, over ripe pineapple with orange zest, flambéed bananas foster, and cedar with a lightly tannic, fruity medium-full body and a very long over ripe banana dipped in caramel and rolled in cinnamon nutmeg and ginger, walnut oil, and black pepper, pickled ginger, maple, black tea, and and cinnamon finish. The proof and the dundery high ester funk assure that this is not for the faint of heart or amateur imbiber, but hot damn is this delicious and complex; would happily sit with a bottle all day and reflect on what cigar pairings or cocktails would be best and then discover that the whole bottle accidentally disappeared.

97 points, Beverage Testing Institute (Apr 2024)

The HLCF is the quintessential counterpart to the 8 Year’s relatively lighter, gentler personality. The nose leads with huge industrial notes of new rubber and diesel engine before giving away anything else. Time and air bring out stewed apples, dark caramel, fermented pineapple, and jerk spices. As the funk fades into the background, softer tones green banana, spiced Christmas cake, and candied orange peel add to the stunning complexity. The palate is every bit as bold and assertive, with a fair amount of heat at first. The medium weight sits on a firm, grippy texture with more huge industrial funk leading the way. A deep mix of cooked tropical and tree fruits, jerked chicken, and sarsaparilla emerge with a few drops of water, as the texture evens out considerably. The medium-long finish turns a touch medicinal as the fruits are accented by licorice root and asphalt, a final indication of the high-ester marque. This isn’t for everyone, but those who appreciate the style will absolutely go head over heels for it.

2023 Patrice Rion Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Clos Saint Marc (750ml)
Pinot Noir from Nuits-St-Georges, Burgundy, France

A vibrant purple. Here too there is an exciting energy to the nose, slightly darker fruit, even a hint of chocolate on the nose. Slightly more depth than the Clos des Argillières, with firmer but very well integrated tannins. This needs a little more elevage, before it might overtake the seductive beauty of the Argillières. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted Oct 2024.

93-96 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy (Jan 2025)

The 2023 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos St. Marc 1er Cru, a monopole belonging to the Domaine, includes 25-30% whole bunches. This feels a little more animated and energetic than the Clos des Argillières, with more red fruit, crushed stone and lightly pressed flower scents. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins. There is a sense of "fluidity" in this Clos Saint-Marc, which displays gentle grip, lovely poise and weight toward the spicy finish. This is the Domaine's standout cuvée in 2023—superb.

93-95 points, Neal Martin, Vinous (Nov 2024)

This is aromatically similar to the Argillières if perhaps just a bit spicier. There is a similar mouthfeel as well if more size, weight and muscle to the saline, serious, more youthfully austere and compact finale. This is even more backward though not necessarily more structured and as such, it's going to require at least some patience. This too is excellent with the potential to match. *Sweet Spot, Outstanding*

The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 1er Cru comes from three parcels and includes 25% whole bunch. This has a classy bouquet with touches of freshly-rolled tobacco and graphite infusing the dark berry fruit, as hints of iris flower surface over time and remain subtle throughout. There is wonderful definition here. The palate is medium-bodied and fresh with disarming purity on the entry, slightly chalky tannins and a little confit fruit toward the finish. Stylish and suave, this is very seductive but there is structure and substance to suggest it will age well in bottle. Excellent.

92-94 points, Neal Martin, Vinous (Jan 2025)

A medium to full purple, with a depth of warmer raspberry fruit on the nose. Bright fruit, medium depth, a little point of acidity, livened up by the whole bunches, slightly more persistent. Some tannins at the back waiting to refine.

91-94 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy (Oct 2024)

A highly expressive, perfumed and even more floral-suffused nose displays aromas of various dark berries, plum and a top note of kirsch. The racy, beautifully detailed and solidly concentrated and voluminous medium-bodied flavors aren’t quite as mineral-driven but it’s close on the youthfully austere, balanced and wonderfully persistent finish. This too is excellent.

A lively, bright and driven Saint-Joseph with lots of energy and freshness to the baked cherries, spiced plums and sweet spices on the nose. It's medium-bodied with fine tannins and a core of bright acidity that adds vitality and freshness. Fleshy and peppery character on the mineral finish. Drink or hold.

93 points, James Suckling (Apr 2025)

Always solid, the 2023 Saint Joseph Les Côtes has a more medium-bodied, focused, mineral-laced style as well as classic Saint Joseph blue fruits, violets, and peppery herb-driven aromatics. Completely destemmed and brought up in equal parts used oak and stainless steel, it's nicely balanced, has fine yet present tannins, and a great finish.

91-93 points, Jeb Dunnuck (May 2025)

The elegant 2023 Saint-Joseph Les Côtes introduces itself with a marked leafy streak, complemented by black cherry and graphite. Fresh violets add a floral perspective. Medium-bodied and refreshing, the 2023 provides vivid freshness and closes with moderate length on the uplifting finish. Although it is a fine effort, I have a clear preference for the more ambitious 2022.

Granalta Tequila Blanco (1L)

"Value and craftsmanship collide in this excellent, artisanal blanco ... Dollar for dollar, it might just be the best tequila value in the store."

- Andrew Kitz, B-21 Spirits Buyer

The value end of the tequila spectrum continues to be awash in overly manufactured, adulterated juice that can barely be considered tequila, so that's why we're always on the lookout for winners like this exceptionally priced blanco from Granalta.

Made with highly traditional methods and absolutely zero additives, this blanco is a serious hitter for its price, especially when you consider the 1-liter bottle. Not only are the agaves roasted extremely slowly in stone ovens with gentle crushing on a roller mill, but inclusion of fibers in the fermentation gives the already excellent raw materials additional depth of flavor and textural intensity that we hardly ever see in this price tier. From the "outstanding, balanced sweetness" to the "textural, full weight and viscosity," the Granalta Blanco is a remarkably versatile offering that's right at home in your favorite cocktail or on its own with a few rocks. We all love a good go-to performer, and this one is perfectly suited to pretty much anything you want to do with it.

92AK

Value and craftsmanship collide in this excellent, artisanal blanco. The nose displays an outstanding, balanced sweetness right out of the gate with serious citrus and floral overtones. Lots of variations on lemon and oranges – lemon custard, orange Julius, orange zest, candied lemon peel. The sweetness continues with heady, aromatic honeysuckle and lilac, with hints of sweet grass around the edges. It even gives a note of white cake icing before taking an abrupt turn to serrano chile, fresh oregano, and white pepper. The textural, full weight and viscosity support the inherent palate sweetness perfectly, with loads of fruity agave upfront, along with a touch of heat bringing out pickled pepper, smoky minerality, and faint notes of fresh dill as it cruises to long, lifted, citrusy finish. This should be your next go-to base blanco for everything from margs to sunrises to sipping on the rocks. Dollar for dollar, it might just be the best tequila value in the store.

2023 Veyder-Malberg Gruner Veltliner Hochrain (750ml)
Gruner Veltliner from Wachau, Lower Austria, Austria
B-21 Top Recommendation

95AK

I expected Peter Veyder-Malberg’s 2023 Hochrain Grüner to be singular in many ways, and it was. Malberg’s parcels sit high on the slope where the layer of loess overlaying the paragneiss bedrock is much thinner than down on the lower slopes, and this Hochrain exhibits the corresponding filigreed precision that plays perfectly into Malberg’s winemaking style. It’s shy at first, like all Malberg’s wines, giving up not much else but pure, shimmering minerality and tightly wound citrus pith and green apple blossom. Give it time and aggressive swirling and it fleshes out beautifully, though. That pure mineral foundation remains, but the fruit soon broadens into Golden Delicious apples, quince, and bright, vibrant Meyer lemon. A corresponding floral overtone emerges as well, extraordinarily heady and aromatic and permeating all the other elements. The palate is achingly elegant and precise, again not giving up much at first, but when the pieces come together, it’s a study in restrained intensity and ethereal elegance. Pinpoint acidity frames flavors of piquant citrus skin and tart pear, along with salt and pepper undertones that lead to a struck-flint finish that simply dances with grace. A Grüner for the cellar, if you really want to experience it in its full glory.

"Overall, the 2023 Viñas de Gain delivers a compelling interplay of dark expression and agile structure..."

- Joaquin Hidalgo, Vinous

It's been a few vintages since we've seen this one-time Spanish best-seller, but the double 93-point 2023 Artadi Viñas de Gain reminds us why the wine and the estate have such a devoted legion of fans. If you're an Artadi fan, you'll already know that this visionary estate has a tendency to buck the norms in Rioja, which leads to them declassifying the wines from the Rioja denominación, but these are still some of the most soulful and ambitious offerings you'll find. While the single-vineyard wines fetch big scores and big price tags to match, the Viñas de Gain has always been a stellar value driver, incorporating the exceptional winemaking of second-generation owner Carlos López de Lacalle with the prized terroirs around the villages of Laguardia and El Villar for a vivid, charming expression that satisfies almost everyone. In this vintage, Carlos tuned the winemaking and elevage toward the goal of crafting "fine-boned wines with freshness," as Wine Advocate puts is, and that's well evident in the 2023 VdG. "Broad yet fresh, combining juicy flow with fine, reactive tannins and notable energy," this is a sound representation of a movement that is finding real traction in modern Rioja, and with these kinds of results, Artadi is ready to reclaim its best-seller status in no time.

The bottled 2023 Viñas de Gaín Tinto, from a diversity of plots in Laguardia and Elvillar, fermented in open-top stainless steel and oak vats and matured in 500- and 600-liter barrels and the second winter in foudre and stainless steel. The second half of August changed the aromatics to riper fruit, but the palate shows more fluidity and more tension; it's riper and fresher, with abundant, fine-grained tannins. The wine comes in at 14.5% alcohol. 38,522 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2025.

93+ points, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate (Mar 2026)

Blending Tempranillo with 5% Viura from Laguardia and El Villar, the 2023 Viñas de Gain opens with black fruit—plum and blackberry—lifted by a hint of bitter orange and marmalade. On the palate, it is broad yet fresh, combining juicy flow with fine, reactive tannins and notable energy. Overall, the 2023 Viñas de Gain delivers a compelling interplay of dark expression and agile structure, well achieved in the context of the vintage.
