I received the Fy Gin I ordered all intact. My only complaint is the delivery process. My order arrived the day prior to the date I was given. I was home but mowing my back yard so I guess the UPS delivery person didn't want to be bothered with walking to the edge of my fence (my yard is only 1/3 acre). I feel certain he/she saw me but did not take an extra few minutes to let me sign. The delivery was sent again the next day but the tracking gave a 4 hour timeframe for the delivery. I checked to see if I could pick it up at the UPS store but that involved an additional fee. I had already paid $24 for shipping and I was not interested in adding to it. I was unable to be home during the timeframe given. Fortunately, my brother was able to work from my home that day so he signed for the delivery which arrived at the very end of the delivery window in the tracking. The delivery system needs work!

Bollinger Brut Champagne Special Cuvee (750ml)
Sparkling from Champagne, France
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

There are Grandes Marques, "Mini-Marques," and then there are the TRULY grande marques. Bollinger is so grande (so important) that the most famous quotes on Champagne are attributed to its most endearing owner. Lily Bollinger was not only the most important character in the story of Bollinger, she remains its most charismatic.

The technical side of Bollinger – the unmatched level of investment in every bottle produced – is every bit as important as Lily's story. Stepping into the cellars of Bollinger will take your breath away. Imagine the greatest collection of Champagne you could ever hope to personally witness in one place. Imagine magnums of the most pristine, Grand Cru Champagne – bottled under cork – resting there before your eyes. How many bottles would it take for you to think, "Holy bubbles, Batman, that's a LOT of Champagne?"

In the cellars of Bollinger rests 600,000 magnums (100,000 cases) of Champagne reserves. It is this massive – truly mind-boggling – stash of reserves which contributes to the unmatched quality and consistency of the Bollinger Special Cuvée. The master blending performed which results in the richness, the depth and full body we love in Bollinger includes 50% of these reserve wines, some of which are up to 15 years of age. This Bollinger Special Cuvée you're buying today contains a healthy percentage of reserve wine from the vintage of 2000.

Moreover, in keeping with the historical Bollinger tradition and winemaking style – the style Lily championed across Europe – the Special Cuvée is vinified in seasoned oak barrels of varying size, shape and age. This barrel vinification is followed by another three years of aging on the fine lees, a process absolutely unmatched across the region. It's a time-consuming, laborious, expensive process that's driven by passion; as only Lily Bollinger would have had it.

Lily took over the estate upon her husband's passing in 1941 and is celebrated for greatly expanding the estate's vineyard holdings as well as the soaring popularity during her time as director and beyond. Recalling her arrival to London to declare her 1955 vintage, a reporter made public Lily Bollinger's reply when asked how much she enjoyed her own product. I think of it every day, or least every day I have a bottle of Bollinger:

"I drink my Champagne when I'm happy and when I'm sad. Sometimes I drink it when I'm alone. When I have company I consider it obligatory. I trifle with it if I'm not hungry and drink it when I am. Otherwise I never touch it - unless I'm thirsty."
–Elizabeth "Lily" Law de Lauriston-Boubers Bollinger

One of the finest Bollinger Special Cuvée bottlings to date, with my price making it that much finer.

This focused Champagne shows lovely balance, with its satinlike mousse and well-honed acidity enmeshed with flavors of white cherry, pureed raspberry, toast point and creamed almond. Hints of spices and smoke play on the lingering finish. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. Drink now through 2029. 13,125 cases imported.

2021 Terroir Expressions Hostage Malbec (750ml)
Malbec from Altamira, Mendoza, Argentina

"An expression of terroir in a glass..." - Decanter

Described as "an Argentine winemaker with rock star appeal" by the Wine Enthusiast's Michael Schachner, the remarkably talented 100 pt. winemaker Marcelo Pelleriti is at the forefront of crafting vineyard-driven Malbec in the Uco Valley, his blockbuster 96 pt. 2021 Marcelo Pelleriti Heritage Terroir Expressions Hostage revealing fragrant, concentrated dark fruit with refined, silky tannins on a long, mineral finish, boasting the complexity of old vine Malbec to enjoy over the next decade at a remarkable value price.

Located southwest of the City of Mendoza, Argentina's Uco Valley has enjoyed a rise in popularity among wine travelers over the last two decades, its stunning scenery framed by the snowcapped Andes Mountains home to a new wave of high-end luxury wine resorts earning it the title "Argentina's Napa Valley" from critic Tim Atkin. Boasting a diverse range of high altitude terroirs inspiring a new movement towards "wines with an authentic sense of place" according to Vinous critic Joaquin Hidalgo, Uco Valley native Marcelo Pelleriti has been a pioneer of vineyard driven wines in the region for nearly two decades, gaining international recognition as the first Argentinian-born winemaker to garner a perfect Parker score for his 100 pt. 2010 Chateau La Violette Bordeaux and establishing his personal label Mendoza winery on his family's 110-year-old farm in La Consulta in 2007. Forming a collaborative partnership with Miguel Priore to craft terroir expressive Grand Cru wines from the region's old vine Malbec, Marcelo sourced the 2021 Heritage Terroir Expressions Hostage cuvee from the Altamira vineyard situated at 1,100 meters above sea level, planted with pre-phylloxera Malbec vines over 60 years of age in a rugged terrain of rocky alluvial soils that produce intensely concentrated, tiny thick-skinned berries and naming the cuvee for being "held hostage" by the vineyard's alluring old vine Malbec. Fermenting the hand harvested grapes with native yeasts in stainless steel, the refined 2021 Marcelo Pelleriti Heritage Terroir Expressions Hostage Malbec was aged for 12 months in French oak barrels and 12 months longer in bottle, revealing a harmonious, beautifully balanced Malbec described as "supple, smooth and polished" by critic Tim Atkin with a fresh solid core of fruit boasting distinct minerality on a backbone of ripe, polished tannins.

Among "the most dynamic winemakers in Argentina" according to James Suckling, the impressive 96 pt. 2021 Marcelo Pelleriti Heritage Terroir Expressions Hostage Malbec showcases Marcelo's remarkable expertise for transparently expressing the distinctive Uco Valley terroir, a thrilling old vine Malbec at an unheard of price worthy of stocking the cellar to enjoy over the next decade.

2021 Chappellet Cabernet Sauvignon Signature (750ml)
Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa, California
B-21 Top Recommendation

"A serious wine in the making."

Jeb Dunnuck

From the pioneering winery on Napa's iconic Pritchard Hill, the bold and luscious 96 pt. 2021 Chappellet Cabernet Sauvignon Signature features rich, aromatic dark fruit hinting of graphite and cedar layered with velvety tannins on a smooth and lasting finish, its age worthy complexity reflecting Chappellet's decades' long legacy as Cabernet Sauvignon experts and "a smoking good value" according to Jeb Dunnuck at a best on the market price.

Climbing the rocky slope above the intersection of the Silverado Trail and the Oakville Cross Road, the narrow drive winding up Pritchard Hill leads to the original pyramid shaped Chappellet winery built in 1968, surrounded by rustic gardens and meticulous vineyards with panoramic views of the valley and St. Helena off in the distance. Moving to Napa in the mid-1960's, Molly and Donn Chappellet heeded the advice of legendary winemaker Andre Tchelistcheff and purchased 320 acres in the rugged hills east of Oakville instead of the valley floor, establishing the first winery to plant at higher elevations in the region just a year after Robert Mondavi Winery opened its doors. Remaining one of the few family-owned wineries in Napa and now run by the second generation, Chappellet's estate vineyards are located above the fog line at elevations from 800 to 1800 feet, planted in well drained, rocky volcanic soils with low yielding vines that produce smaller, thick skinned berries with enhanced flavors and depth. Blending mostly mountain grown Cabernet Sauvignon with small amounts of Petit Verdot, Malbec and Merlot, longtime winemaker Phillip Corallo-Titus aged the elegant 2021 Chappellet Cabernet Sauvignon Signature in French oak for about 20 months, yielding richly concentrated, vibrant fruit and integrated polished tannins poised to gain complexity over the next few decades.

Now home to a bevy of some of Napa's most exclusive producers including Bryant Family, Continuum, Ovid and Colgin, the sensational 96 pt. 2021 Chappellet Cabernet Sauvignon Signature remains an incredible value, "a big overachiever" according to Vinous critic Antonio Galloni and a top rated Napa Cab boasting the pedigree of Pritchard Hill at a fraction of the price of its high profile neighbors and promising Napa Cab lovers years of pleasurable drinking ahead.

96D 95WE 94JD 94JS 94WI

It is a marvellously compact and coiled-up wine with a towering structure. Very beautifully fragrant dried purple flowers and herbs. Full-bodied with loads of succulent ripe blackberry, creme de cassis, graphite, and loamy earth. Very firm, tight-grained tannins form the base note of this wine, and the finish is long and rich in wild herbs and spices. Cellar worthy. It will release internationally in September 2024. It is rounded out with 6% Merlot.

96 points, Jonathan Cristaldi, Decanter (Dec 2023)

An extra-dark color and heady aromas of crushed blueberries and blackberries leads to super-concentrated black fruits and milk chocolate on the palate, where silky tannins put a gentle grip around all that flavor. The wine is huge in pure fruit depth yet well polished in texture. Best from 2027–2034.

95 points, Jim Gordon, Wine Enthusiast (Apr 2024)

Leading off the Cabernet Sauvignon releases, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Signature is a larger production release and is 79% Cabernet Sauvignon and nearly equal portions of Petit Verdot, Malbec, and Merlot. Smoky black fruits, graphite, crushed stone, and tobacco notes give way to a medium to full-bodied, concentrated, powerful 2021 offering ample mid-palate depth, a layered, textured, balanced mouthfeel, building tannins, and a gorgeous finish. It's a brilliant bottle of wine that will benefit from short-term cellaring and have over two decades of longevity.

94 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Dec 2023)

Aromas of cassis and dark berries with sweet spices, dried orange peel and minty undertones. Hints of walnuts, too. Medium- to full-bodied with well-integrated, melting tannins. Very silky texture. Succulent and layered, ripe but bright and vivid. Delicious fruit. Long. Attractive now, but better after 2025.

94 points, James Suckling (Dec 2023)

The 2021 Signature Cabernet Sauvignon, with 8% Petit Verdot, 7% Malbec, and 6% Merlot in the blend, is deep garnet-purple in color. It opens with evocative notes of warm cassis, blackberry pie, and kirsch followed by suggestions of menthol, dark chocolate, and anise. The full-bodied palate is packed with black fruit preserves and spicy layers, supported by plush tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long with a savory lift.

"Sweetly spiced and creamy yet with a vibrant core..." - James Suckling

Few producers in California display such consistent quality up and down their range as Paso Robles' Daou Vineyards. Their top-end collectibles routinely pull in massive scores, but at the same time, their entry-level offerings are some of the best in the game, as we see in today's sub-$20, 94-point gem of a Chardonnay. Sourced exclusively from old-vine parcels in Edna Valley, the 2023 Reserve is a pure example of the best features of California Chardonnay, marrying ripeness with balance, which results in a profile with serious appeal to a wide audience. Sure, there are plenty of sub-$20 Chardonnay options out there, but only a select few can match the pedigree and style of this must-try beauty from a true Paso Robles icon.

Sweetly spiced and creamy yet with a vibrant core, this showcases opulent yet well-wrangled flavors of mashed autumn orchard fruit with warm vanilla, hazelnuts and white figs, as well as a seam of chalky minerality. The finish unfurls with layered elegance. Drink or hold.

2023 Penfolds Shiraz Bin 28 (750ml)
Shiraz from South Australia, Australia

"Really impressive already, with more to come; the star buy from this year’s collection." - Decanter

There's not much we can or need to say about Penfolds' latest iteration of their smash-hit, best-selling Shiraz. The 2023 Bin 28 picks up right where all the previous vintages left off with a sterling critical line that includes stout praise from all corners. This wine is always a quintessential expression of Aussie Shiraz, thanks to Penfolds' complete mastery of their vineyards and winemaking. As always, everything is so impeccably balanced and composed that it's still a shock how good the Bin 28 is when you consider its sub-$25 price. All the components work in such harmony that it's easy to lose sight of what a value it is, to the point where it's not just delicious now, but it will also cruise for a long time in the cellar. When was the last time you spent $25 on a wine you'll still be enjoying ten or 15 years from now? Exactly. So make some room in the cellar and load up, because the 2023 Bin 28 is a hit for fans of Penfolds and any great Australian Shiraz.

95AWC 94WS 94D 93WA 93JS

Deep crimson with a strong aromatic profile of blackberry, black cherry and blueberry studded with mixed spice, blackforest cake, roasting meats, panforte, dark chocolate and earth. Plenty of depth and latent fruit power with this release; perhaps a little more power than last year's model, with fine, strong tannins supporting the fruit beautifully. A strong release for the Bin 28 Shiraz.

95 points, Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion (Jul 2025)

Offers an exuberant mix of fresh huckleberry, boysenberry and blackberry syrup, plus framboise. Accents of toasted green tea, milk chocolate and rose petal emerge, along with clove, apricot and cardamom, all on a juicy, approachable frame, with dense tannins that never get in the way of the concentrated flavors. Drink now through 2038. 9,937 cases imported.

94 points, MaryAnn Worobiec, Wine Spectator (Dec 2025)

Penfolds’ first Bin wine, from 1959, this used to be named for the Kalimna Vineyard from which it was solely sourced. Now it is a multi-region blend, always dominated by Barossa Valley fruit – this year 42%, along with Padthaway (31%) and McLaren Vale (27%) – to showcase ripe, powerful warm-climate South Australian Shiraz. Always matured for 12 months in American oak hogsheads, there’s more new wood this year (15%), but it wears it beautifully, and that firm tannic backbone promises to carry this already approachable wine through the next two decades. Mulberry pie aromas – inviting with lots of vanilla and sweet baking spices – joined by savoury olive brine, tarmac and liquorice. The fresh but concentrated palate has more of the same, along with dark chocolate-coated cherries. Really impressive already, with more to come; the star buy from this year’s collection. Released at £30.

94 points, Tina Gellie, Decanter (Jun 2025)

The 2023 season in South Australia was wetter than either vintage either side of it, and the wines, if farmed well (yields managed, disease managed, ripeness achieved), have captured the detail and levity that these conditions can be responsible for. On balance, I've liked the 2023 Barossa/McLaren Vale reds that I have tasted so far. I've liked them more than those of the 2017 vintage, which experienced similar conditions. Here, the 2023 Bin 28 is rich and savory, the oak—wholly American oak, 15% new—sits atop the fruit on the front palate, but the fruit emerges and plumes through the middle palate and finish. A lighter release of this wine, it is still structured but not weighty. 14.5% alcohol, sealed under cork.

93 points, Erin Larkin, Wine Advocate (Jul 2025)

This is an Australian classic that has been made every year since 1959. Aromas of blackberries, dark chocolate, crushed blueberries and dried herbs. The palate is full-bodied with firmly framed tannins, bright acidity and a savory and dark-fruited finish. Drink or hold.

2022 Clos des Papes Chateauneuf-du-Pape Rouge (750ml)
Grenache from Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Rhône, France
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

We just landed a newly arrived parcel of a frontrunner for wine of the vintage in 2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape at must-see pricing. Paul-Vincent Avril sets the bar for classic, age-worthy style year after year, and the 2022 Clos des Papes is another entry in the pantheon of legendary wines to emerge from this storied address.

"The 2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape is showing beautifully, with the sun-kissed style of the vintage yet more depth and density than most ... It's one of the wines of the vintage and will have two decades of longevity." - Jeb Dunnuck

The 24 different parcels that comprise the wine are located in a diverse range of terroirs, from the rocky La Crau to areas of sand, limestone, and gravel, giving Avril the ability to maintain a consistency of style and quality that few in the region can match, while also mitigating any difficulties the growing season may bring. The 2022 is everything collectors expect from this benchmark icon, with critics across the board hailing its long-haul pedigree and perfectly composed profile. Best of all, our razor-sharp, market-leading pricing allows you to stock the cellar with confidence.

98JD 97WA 96V 96WS 96JS 96D

The 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape is showing beautifully, with the sun-kissed style of the vintage yet more depth and density than most in the vintage. Blackberries, Provençal garrigue, spice, and saddle leather all define the aromatics, and it hits the palate with the classic elegance of the estate in its medium to full-bodied, layered, multi-dimensional style. It's one of the wines of the vintage and will have two decades of longevity.

98 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Oct 2024)

Despite a hailstorm that destroyed approximately one-third of the crop this year, Paul-Vincent Avril managed to produce a wine with the same grape proportions as in previous years, thanks to his vineyard's diverse and fragmented nature. So, the 2022 Chateauneuf du Pape from Clos des Papes reveals a delicate, aromatic bouquet of peony, gooseberry, lilac, flowers and cherries mingled with delicate notes of fennel and menthol. Medium to full-bodied, sappy and layered, it's perfectly textured with velvety, delicate tannins enhanced by bright acids and a long, ethereal finish. Although the Mourvèdre is slightly dominant at this stage, this wine is unquestionably poised for great aging potential.

97 points, Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate (Sep 2024)

The alluring 2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape won me over in a heartbeat. Vivid licorice, sage, blueberry, lavender, red and black cherry as well as crushed flowers hail from the glass. Full-bodied and intense, the 2022 packs ample flavor concentration yet always maintains balance through lifting freshness. Polished tannins neatly structure this ambitious 2022 that has the potential to age gracefully for at least two decades.

96+ points, Nicolas Greinacher, Vinous (Jun 2024)

A richly styled, opulent Châteauneuf that offers a streamlined cascade of ripe cherry, licorice root and toasted chestnut. Mineral energy keeps this powering long distance, with a smoldering foundation of iron. Starts off silky in feel, with a caressing texture quickly firmed up by fine tannins that hold real power. Hints of wet soil and baking spices detail the long, winding finish. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Best from 2026 through 2042.

96 points, Kristen Bieler, Wine Spectator (Jan 2025)

A silky, textural and harmonious red with notes of dark cherries, fresh blackberries, dried thyme, currants and some mild spices. It's medium-bodied with finely grained tannins. Elegant and graceful, silky and bright. Fresh center palate with plenty of vitality and a caressing texture. Precise and harmonious with a pure expression of fruit at the center and a vibrant, spicy finish. Drink or hold.

96 points, James Suckling (Apr 2024)

A touch less Mourvèdre this year, but not enough to change the profile of the wine, which is fairly classic albeit pretty bombastic in 2022. Raspberry and black cherry, ripe and exuberant. Full but not massive, the alcohol is present, slightly warming the finish. Tannins are a little grainy, so I would give this time to settle before broaching. Succulent and juicy, with a touch of liquorice. Vincent Avril believes the wine could close down quite early on. So drink young, or (even better) wait until 2030. All destemmed, aged in old foudres.

2017 Lopez de Heredia Vina Cubillo Tinto Crianza (750ml)
Tempranillo from Rioja, Spain
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

The López de Heredia new releases are always some of the anticipated of the year, and kicking off this round, we have the standard bearer for Crianza Rioja, from a stellar vintage to boot.

"The super bargain of the [Lopez] portfolio..." - Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate

Following on the success of the previous vintage, the 2017 Cubillo is yet again a rock-solid performer in its category. The vineyard itself is a true gem, capable of producing at the Gran Reserva level, but winemaker Mercedes López de Heredia insists on making the Crianza because it's just that important to their entire range. The 2017 vintage was not without its challenges, but in the end it produced a "Smooth, juicy and slightly chalky" expression that "retains the fine-boned elegance of the Cubillo style." In other words, it's a prime example of LdH's traditional Rioja pedigree, and our razor-sharp price offers you the opportunity to stock up big, so you can enjoy this best-in-class overachiever time and time again for years to come.

93WA 93JS 92V

The super bargain of the portfolio has to be the red 2017 Viña Cubillo Tinto Crianza, which this year shows more development and faster aging, with more tertiary notes than the other reds from 2013 and 2014 that I tasted next to it. The frost of April 2017 killed 100% of the vegetal mass at Cubillo, and the grapes they picked were exclusively from the second generation, therefore fruit that ripened in a much shorter cycle, as the harvest was also earlier. It has notes of damp earth, mushrooms, truffles and forest floor, dry leaves and decayed flowers and herbs. It has a polished palate and is medium-bodied, with mostly resolved tannins, and it feels a little lighter. But it's still worth it. It was produced with a blend of 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha and 5% each Graciano and Mazuelo from vines averaging 53 years of age. It fermented in their old oak vats and matured in used American oak barrels for three+ years. It has 13.5% alcohol, a 3.0 pH and 6.5 grams of acidity. 90,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in February 2023.

93 points, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate (Feb 2025)

Very good. Not fruity but lightly savory with a touch of oranges, iron, cloves and preserved plums. Subtle, bright and firm, this has medium body and a long finish. Drink now or hold.

The 2017 Viña Cubillo combines 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha, 5% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo from Rioja Alta. This aged for three years in American oak barrels. Offering vinous aromas, gentle oak and dark fruit with herbal notes, the frost-hit vintage provided lighter fruit and greener flavors. Smooth, juicy and slightly chalky, it nonetheless retains the fine-boned elegance of the Cubillo style.

Signatory Speyside (M) 14yr 2011 Single Malt Scotch
From Speyside, Scotland
B-21 Top Recommendation

"It's tough to beat unadulterated Macallan in first-fill oloroso, especially at this price." - Andrew Kitz, B-21 Spirits Buyer

Single malt fans know that demand for Speyside's most famous distillery has hit such a fever pitch that prices have long since gone off the rails on official distillery bottlings, but thanks to top-tier independent bottlers like Signatory, we can still get our hands on some fan-favorite expressions that won't break the bank. Unfortunately, they don't tend to last long. Our offer late last year on the 2011 Speyside (M) 13 Year Old sold out in one day. Now that same juice is a year older and a year wiser, so it's a safe bet this 14 Year Old will see much the same reaction from our savvy single-malt fans.

The Speyside (M) made a name for itself a few years ago when it could still bear the Macallan name on the label, and even though we get the cryptic yet not-so-secret "M" designation nowadays, we're still getting that unmistakable Macallan character. All the more, Signatory bottles this release at 100 proof with no adulteration in the form of filtration or additives, so it's just pure Macallan and pure Speyside all the way. "It’s as pure an expression of the distillery as you’ll find," notes Andrew. Indeed, when you consider the specs, it's hard to argue. And when you factor in the price, it's a no-brainer for any avid Speyside fan, of Macallan or anything else.

94AK

Late last year, we jumped all over the last remaining stocks of the 13 Year Old rendition of this exceptional IB Macallan bottling from Signatory, and it became an instant hit, selling out in less than 24 hours. We were assured at the time that something even better was on the way in the form of the 14 Year Old version. Does one extra year in cask make a noticeable difference? Unequivocally, yes. As I wrote last year, the Speyside (M) is bottled unfiltered with no additives, so it’s as pure an expression of the distillery as you’ll find. Pouring a beautiful, medium bronze color, it leads with a nose of more intensity and range than the 13 Year Old, especially in terms of the oloroso profile – dense dried fig and prune, along with notes of crushed walnuts, marzipan, and old leather chair. The 13 Year Old’s vanilla, biscuit, and orange zest components are there, with the added depth of cured Coppa pork tenderloin. Soda bread, treacle, and mulled potpourri round out a nuanced, wide-ranging aromatic profile. The palate is once again as graceful as can be. Like the 13 Year Old, it’s medium weight with no hard edges. It needs and wants nothing. Have it neat, and don’t think twice. Dried redcurrant plays against the fig and prune component, all with that pure malt goodness in the background alongside peppery accents and suggestions of nutmeg and walnut sawdust. The finish is deeper and more resonant than its more high-toned predecessor, with darker fruit, savory spice, and game. Is it similar to the 13 Year Old? Yes. It’s the same juice after all, but it’s also very much it’s own thing. The bottom line, as always, is that it’s still tough to beat unadulterated Macallan in first-fill oloroso, especially at this price.

"Their specialty is working with the Godello grape, which may well be Spain’s finest indigenous white grape ... Avancia is certainly the top producer of this intriguing and delicious dry white." - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate

Godello is the emblematic white grape of Spain, and the Valdeorras D.O. is emblematic of Godello. Jorge Ordoñez' Bodegas Avancia has been a standard bearer for Godello for years, and their Old Vine bottling is a consistent benchmark vintage after vintage. Sourced from head-trained, dry-farmed vines approaching 40 years of age on slate and quartz soils, resulting in a wine of serious depth and age-worthy concentration. The 2024 carries on this cuvée's sterling track record with a 94-point review from Vinous for its "pure, direct expression" of Godello. "Intense, with good freshness and weight," it's built to be a lasting rendition that will set the bar for Spanish whites in its price tier.

The 2024 Godello from Valdeorras spent six months on lees in French oak puncheons and demi-muids. It begins with acacia, linden blossom and pear, showing pure, direct expression. Intense, with good freshness and weight, this has a lightly malic edge that extends the finish. Recently bottled, the 2024 will benefit from further integration.

2025 Capichera Vermentino Lintori (750ml)
Vermentino from Sardinia, Italy

"This is a textbook definition of varietal purity. I can't think of anyone doing Vermentino as well as Capichera." - Andrew Kitz, B-21 Wine Buyer

It seems Italy's white wine scene is getting better and better with each vintage, and you can now add the 93-point 2025 Capichera Vermentino Lintori to the list of the country's benchmark, native-grape expressions. Arguably the finest estate in Sardinia's Gallura DOCG.

The recent acquisition of the estate by Italian wine entrepreneur Carlo Campanini Bonomi has ensured that this iconic property not only remains a standard-bearer for the island, but that it takes its game to next level by staying true to its singular terroir. Bonomi considers the property to be one of great heritage, and it's his responsibility to carry that heritage forward. To that end, his extensive investments since his purchase are now paying off big time, as we clearly see in this riveting value performer. Harvested entirely from estate vineyards, the Lintori is quintessential Vermentino, with an intense mineral backbone balanced by full weight and texture. "I’m sold," declares Andrew, "one of Italy’s best values in white wine."

The original vision of Capichera's founder is on full display in this latest rendition under the estate's new ownership - to produce the finest expressions of an Italian winemaking tradition that dates back a thousand years, and to position the estate as its global ambassador. Based on the 2025 Lintori, we'd say they're succeeding with flying colors.

93AK

This is a textbook definition of varietal purity. I can't think of anyone doing Vermentino as well as Capichera. The 2025 Lintori opens with pure charm in its deep green apple and Bosc pear aromas, which are backed up by incredibly deep (and pure) lemon notes. Plush, captivating, heady florals give further depth, while notes of kaffir lime leaf, faint white pepper, tarragon, and a subtle steely undercurrent round out the aromas. The palate is exquisitely crafted with no edges whatsoever. Everything is in perfect dimension, from the luxurious weight to the gradually building acidity. Deeply pitched citrus is up front with flashes of bitter almond skin. The purity, refinement, and definition are first-class. Green apple and pear are perfectly integrated on the finish with yellow fig, tomato leaf, and tarragon for an utterly beguiling expression that far outpaces its price point. I’m sold – one of Italy’s best values in white wine.

2019 Chateau Valandraud (750ml)

As the original garagiste winemaker who basically started the trend, Jean-Luc Thunevin has fashioned himself as arguably the most controversial figure in Bordeaux over the past 20 years, but his track record is simply undeniable. One monster score after another, vintage after vintage, his Valandraud wines prove his mettle as a one of the great talents on the Right Bank.

His style is unabashedly modern, which suits this quartet of vintages perfectly, so it's no surprise to see high-90s press across the board, but apex of the set is the 100-point 2022, which Jeb Dunnuck declares "another heavenly wine and pure perfection." With power and intensity beyond measure, it still retains a sense of polish and focus even in a powerhouse vintage like 2022. As Antonio Galloni attests, "The 2022 deftly balances opulence and finesse in grand style," a testament to Thunevin's singular winemaking skill. The 2020 is no shrinking violet either, flirting with perfection and "one of the wines of the vintage" according to Dunnuck, while the 2019 is a "sensational" wine, "stunning in its delineation and with sheer energy, [it's] a towering wine that captures all the best the vintage has to offer." Finally, the powerhouse 2018 grand vin is "a wine of tremendous stature that distinguishes itself in a vintage peppered with stunning wines," as noted by Galloni.

The local bad boy of Bordeaux, Jean-Luc Thunevin, continues to fashion truly brilliant wines, and his 2019 is no exception. Based largely on Merlot with small amount of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2019 Château Valandraud is a deep purple-hued beauty offering up a kaleidoscope-like bouquet of black and blue fruits, scorched earth, chocolate, gravelly earth, spicy oak, and sappy flowers. Deep, rich, full-bodied, and wonderfully concentrated, it has insane purity of fruit, brilliant tannins, a stacked mid-palate, and just has everything in the right places. It's up with the top wines of the vintage and a tour de force that readers should snatch up. It shows a very different style than the sexier 2018, but it's every bit as good. It needs 4-5 years of bottle age and will evolve for 2-3 decades.

99 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Apr 2022)

Vivid and focused with brightness and clarity of fruit. Dried flowers, too. Full-bodied with layers of fine, soft tannins that spread across the palate and show class and refinement. It goes on for minutes. A beautiful bottle. Try after 2027, but so attractive already.

98 points, James Suckling (Feb 2022)

The 2019 Valandraud is sensational. Stunning in its delineation and with sheer energy, the 2019 dazzles right out of the gate. Dark red/purplish berry fruit, mocha, new leather, licorice and lavender all come alive in the glass. In 2019, Valandraud is a towering, statuesque wine that captures all the best the vintage had to offer. I tasted the 2019 three times and it was magnificent on all three occasions. It is a tremendous effort from Jean-Luc Thunevin and his Murielle Andraud. What a wine!

97+ points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Feb 2022)

The 2019 Valandraud is deep garnet-purple in color. It gallops out with energetic notes of blackberry preserves, kirsch, and wild blueberries plus suggestions of spice cake, dried roses, star anise and forest floor. Concentrated, full-bodied and super-rich, it explodes in the mouth with vibrant black fruit preserves and exotic spices flavors, supported by exquisitely ripe, velvety tannins and seamless freshness, finishing with epic length.

Takamine 8yr Japanese Koji Whisky (750ml)
From Asakura, Fukuoka, Japan
B-21 Top Recommendation

"These aged Takamines are singular whiskies that showcase the full potential of the style. Uniquely Japanese and simply delicious, they're worth every penny." - Andrew Kitz, B-21 Spirits Buyer

You may not know the name Jokichi Takamine, but you certainly know some of his most important contributions to American life. As a highly esteemed Japanese chemist working in the U.S. in the early 20th century, he discovered the adrenaline hormone in humans and developed the anti-inflammatory epinephrine. So if you have a bee, peanut, shellfish, or other random allergy, thank Dr. Takamine. If you've ever visited the spring marvel that is the cherry blossoms on Washington, DC's Tidal Basin, you can also thank Dr. Takamine. He was instrumental in brokering the gift from the mayor of Tokyo to the District of Columbia. Without him that annual spectacle wouldn't exist. But most importantly to the whiskey world, Dr. Takamine discovered that the traditional koji mold so widely used in sake fermentation could also be used to great effect in barley fermentation, laying the foundation of what is now the koji whiskey category.

While Dr. Takamine's whiskey ventures never took off in the U.S. for a variety of reasons both commercial and regulatory, he took the method back to Japan, where it wasn't until nearly 100 years later that Shinozaki distillery started experimenting with it, producing the first modern, commercially viable koji whiskeys. Naming the brand after Dr. Takamine in honor of his vision, they've now releasing micro-batches of some of the very first koji whiskeys laid down at the distillery, in a variety of age statements to celebrate the growth of the category.

The Takamine 20 Year Old is a blend of four early experimental casks from 2003 and 2004, showing the multi-dimensional personality of the spirit as it starts to reach its true full maturity. The Takamine 26 Year Old, a world apart from the 20 Year Old from just six more years aging, is the last parcel of the very first experimental casks laid down in 1998. A true rarity and singular whiskey, only 600 bottles were filled and released for the entire global market, making it a collectible gem of the highest order.

2021 Luigi Einaudi Barolo Ludo (750ml)
Nebbiolo from Barolo, Piedmont, Italy

"One of the overachievers of the vintage for a regional Barolo and a strong contender for top of the year lists..." - Audrey Frick, JebDunnuck.com

The historic Luigi Einaudi estate is a bastion of classic Barolo wines, but the personal history of its founder is even more impressive. Luigi Einaudi was born a peasant, but his gifted intellect and unmatched work ethic would see him rise to become one of the most influential figures in all of Italy during the 20th century. While most Americans know his name from his eponymous wine estate, Einaudi also became a prominent economist, eventually rising to the head of the Banca d'Italia, and finally becoming the first democratically elected President of the Republic of Italy. Against this backdrop of this personality, the wine's might seem like an afterthought, but his winery was indeed Einaudi's true lifelong passion. His visionary work in the vines dates back to 1915, when he was one of the first to graft vines to American rootstock, thus saving his vineyards from phylloxera. It was shortly thereafter that he decided to make and bottle his own wines, and now four generations later, his great-grandson Matteo Sardagna is leading the estate into the 21st century with his own forward thinking processes and methods.

The single-cru Barolos are indeed benchmarks in 2021, but the entry-level 2021 Barolo Ludo is one of the vintage's sharpest steals at under $40. The estate's ethereal style shines in the impeccable 2021 vintage, and the fruit from vineyards in Barolo, La Morra, and Verduno shines with outstanding clarity. "A sleek, elegant red, silky in texture and linear in profile," notes Bruce Sanderson of Wine Spectator, "This wine's purity and structure show the potential of the vintage." It's also one of those sweet spot expressions that will provide a textbook introduction for those new to the region, while still checking every box that seasoned aficionados look for in a classically styled Barolo.

94WS 94JS 93WA 93JD 92WE 92D

A sleek, elegant red, silky in texture and linear in profile. Rose, macerated cherry, strawberry, mineral and spice flavors abound, while a line of energetic tannins shows up on the long finish. This wine's purity and structure show the potential of the vintage. Best from 2028 through 2047. 4,560 cases made, 1,000 cases imported.

94 points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator (Apr 2025)

This exhibits violets and tar, as well as underbrush and a distant bitter-chocolate note. The palate is angular and incisive, well-constructed with a harmonious interplay between the focused acidity, fine grained tannins and delineated, fleshy fruit. Precise. Best ever from here. Better in 2028.

94 points, Jacobo García Andrade, James Suckling (Jan 2025)

The Poderi Luigi Einaudi 2021 Barolo Ludo is light and delicate in appearance with a dark ruby shine. The bouquet has a lot going on with sweet cherry, cola, blue flower and spicy rosemary essence that comes through with more clarity the longer this wine stays in the glass. It offers young tannins that could surely benefit from more years of bottle age. Ludo is a big production of 54,335 bottles.

93 points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate (Jan 2025)

One of the overachievers of the vintage for a regional Barolo and a strong contender for top of the year lists, the 2021 Barolo Ludo pours a reflective brick red color and is attractive on the nose with notes of cinnamon sticks, fresh cherries, mossy earth, and anise. The palate offers a good balance of richness in the structure of its medium-bodied frame, with ripe tannins, lovely clarity of fruit, and refreshing ripe acidity. A gorgeous entry-level Barolo, it’s stunning now and has the potential to age with ease over the next 12-15 years.

93 points, Audrey Frick, Jeb Dunnuck (May 2025)

Think of this as Einaudi's greatest hits album. Young vineyards across Barolo come together to create something that just works. Fresh fruits and sweet spices play through a gorgeously textured palate, showing exactly why blending across sites can create such beautiful harmony. A wine that makes you smile while it teaches you something. A great entry point for those wanting to learn Barolo or a place that feels like home for the initiated.

92 points, Jeff Porter, Wine Enthusiast (Feb 2026)

From the Latin ‘ludus’ which means playful, Ludo assembles young vine plots in Bussia, Terlo, Monvigliero and Cannubi. Aged in a mix of large cask and tonneaux, it proposes a brambly nose that recalls cranberry bush, wild currants, rooibos and baking spice. Midweight and streamlined but still textured, this is built around succulent wild red fruit. Elegant tannins are light and crisp, matched by enjoyably tart, brisk acidity. The finish is long, with a subtle mushroom accent. Makes you thirsty for more.

2022 Branger Muscadet Terroir Les Gras Moutons (750ml)
Melon de Bourgogne from Muscadet, Loire, France
B-21 Top Recommendation
Read More

"The estate, led by Sébastien Branger, has a reputation for producing classic wines with a crystal-clear and pure style." - Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate

Any knowledgeable insider knows that Muscadet is one of the most consistently excellent categories for overperforming white wine values. In fact, we can't think of anywhere in the world that delivers more bang for the cellar-worthy buck than here. And these days, the region is really leaning into its diverse terroirs and their myriad expressions, while the top growers are pursuing quality with the same passion and steadfastness as the best domaines from anywhere else in France. The Branger domaine, founded during World War I, is a reference-point for Muscadet's classic heart and soul.

The Brangers own and farm vines in Muscadet's most important communes, and it's their plots in the "grand cru" village of Monnières-St Fiacre that form their top-tier bottling, Les Gras Moutons, made from shallow, amphibolite soils. The wine doesn't bear the commune name on the label because Sébastien chooses not to age sur lie long enough to meet the appellation minimum, but this 94-point 2022 beauty is "a great bottle of Muscadet in the making!" The vines date back to 1936, so the concentration, intensity, and soil signature are textbook, and given the reticent primary character right now, it's set to age beautifully for another ten to fifteen years (how's that for a $20 wine?!). The "understudy" to Les Gras Mouton is the 92-point 2023 Les Fils de Mouton, which Castaing declares "deserves recognition as one of the top values in the region." The younger vines (44 years old) around the village of Maisdon-sur-Sèvre grow on metamorphic gneiss, mica, and schist, produce "a lovely and classic bottle of top flight Muscadet" that far outpaces its sub-$15 price point. In fact, you can (and perhaps should) lay this down for a years as well, to give it the chance to fully develop. Of course, at this price, you can load up and enjoy it whenever you want.

Needless to say, we're fully on board the Muscadet train, and the ride is only getting better as we add more outstanding domaines like Branger to the fold. It's a great time to be a Loire lover. That's for sure.

94JG

As I have mentioned in the past, the parcel of Les Gras Moutons is considered part of the Cru of Monnières Saint Fiacre, but wines to be labeled with the name of the cru have to spend at least twenty-four months aging on their fine lees prior to bottling. The Brangers prefer to age this bottling fourteen months sur lie and sell the wine under the Les Gras Moutons moniker. Their 2022 version is excellent, offering up a deep and vibrant aromatic constellation of tart pear, sweet leesy tones, a beautifully complex base of stony soil tones, gentle maritime saltiness, dried flowers and a topnote of limepeel. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, complex and beautifully mineral in personality, with a lovely core of fruit, a fine girdle of acidity, excellent precision and balance and a long, youthfully complex and vibrant finish. It is still early days for the 2022 Les Gras Moutons from the Brangers and this wine is still wound fairly tightly and will be even better a few years down the road. This bottling is made from vines that are all more than fifty years of age. It is a great bottle of Muscadet in the making!

"Delivering terrific balance and poise, this wine represents a confident and successful effort from one of Bolgheri’s founding winemakers." - Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

The pioneering Michele Satta founded his eponymous estate in 1980, and in doing so, he set the wheels in motion for the creation of what is now one of Italy's most famous hotbeds for collectible wine. Based in Bolgheri, Satta's estate excels at the Super Tuscan style, using classic Bordeaux varietals to craft wines of serious class and distinction. The Cabernet Sauvignon-based Piastraia quickly became a gangbusters best-seller at B-21 with the outstanding 2021 vintage, followed by the equally prodigious 2022. Now, we're thrilled to present the 97-point 2023 Piastraia at unbeatable, sub-$50 pricing.

These days, Michele is gradually taking a more hands-off role and handing over principal winemaking duties to his son, Giacomo. Where Michele's style was always focused on ethereal finesse and elegance, Giacomo has opted to bolster the wines' personalities with a bit more concentration and structure, so they are now undeniable cellar candidates to contend with the best of Bolgheri. The 2023 Piastraia is the first vintage in which Giacomo has excluded Sangiovese, and the wine shows its more Bordeaux-oriented characteristics in its "brooding aromatic profile" and "well-integrated structure." Still, it also shows its cards in beautiful fashion now, eminently accessible yet poised to evolve in fine form over many years. In short, it's another signature expression from one of our own favorite Super Tuscan producers and an undisputed icon of the category.

A restrained wine with aromas of eucalyptus, milk, mint, cedar and Mediterranean herbs. Full-bodied with velvety, ripe and elegant tannins. One of the wines of the vintage is Jean-Luc Thunevin's 2020 Château Valandraud, which comes from the cooler, eastern side of Saint-Emilion. Exhibiting a dense purple hue as well as an incredible perfume of crème de cassis, ripe black cherries, violets, new leather, and an almost Hermitage-like burning embers character, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, ripe, seamless tannins, remarkable purity of fruit, and a finish that won't quit. A blend of 85% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, it's clearly in the same league as the 2019, if not slightly more concentrated. Give bottles 5-7 years in the cellar, count yourself lucky, and enjoy over the following 20-25 years or so.

Very opulent and expressive aromas of black fruit and pine needles. So floral. Full-bodied with plush, velvety tannins and lots of fruit and texture. It goes on for minutes. Rich at the finish, but remains fresh and vivid. Superb. One of the great Valandrauds. Drink after 2027.

99 points, James Suckling (Dec 2022)

The 2020 Valandraud is a stunner. Rich, deep and explosive, the 2020 possesses dazzling intensity from start to finish. Silky tannins wrap around a core of plush dark red/black fruit, licorice, spice, mocha and new leather. Even with all of its intensity, the 2020 is bright and wonderfully focused. Sweet floral and blood orange accents liven up the explosive finish. Magnificent.

98 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Feb 2023)

It opens with overtones of cedar and lifted Morello cherries before giving way to a core of fruitcake, blueberry pie, chargrill, and Indian spices, with wafts of licorice and cardamom. The big, concentrated, full-bodied palate quivers with tension and shimmers with energy, framed by beautifully ripe tannins, finishing long and opulent. Gorgeous.

2023 Branger Muscadet Le Fils des Gras Moutons (750ml)

92JG

The 2023 Muscadet “Le Fils des Gras Moutons” from Domaine Claude Branger is made from the estate’s younger vines in the vineyard of Gras Moutons. “Younger” in this case means forty-four years of age in 2023, with the fruit entirely hand harvested. The wine is a lovely and classic bottle of top flight Muscadet, offering up a bright and complex bouquet of lemon, green apple, a beautiful base of wet stone minerality, gentle leesy tones and a topnote of dried flowers. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, zesty and mineral-driven, with a fine core of fruit, lovely focus and balance and a long, complex and vibrant finish. Fine juice.

This micro-parcel presents a can't-miss opportunity for serious collectors to add four undeniable blue-chips to the cellar at some of the sharpest pricing in the market, but our quantities are very limited, so don't hesitate to lock in your supply now.

A blend of 85% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, vinified and aged 22 months in new barrels, the 2022 Château Valandraud is another heavenly wine and was pure perfection on this occasion. Like the 2020, only lighter on its feet, it's full-bodied, deep, rich, and massive, with good acidity, ripe tannins, and huge richness but no weight. It's just awesome any way you look at it and it matches the otherworldly 2010 and 2020. This is just another incredible effort from the incredible Jean-Luc Thunevin. Drink bottles any time over the coming 30 years or more. Drink 2026-2056.

Another head-turning wine from Jean-Luc is his 2018 Château Valandraud, which is mostly Merlot blended with small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Its dense purple hue is followed by an incredible array of smoky black and blue fruits supported by notes of tobacco leaf, white chocolate, candied orange, and spice. This beauty has a deep, rich, powerful style yet holds onto a beautiful sense of purity and freshness, possessing ripe yet present tannins, plenty of textbook Saint-Emilion minerality, flawless balance, and a gorgeous finish. It reminds me of a slightly more approachable, elegant version of the 2016. Either way, it's rock star stuff. It can be drunk today with pleasure yet deserves 4-6 years of bottle age and will keep for 20-25+.

98 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Mar 2021)

This is really rich and intense with beautiful blackberry, violet and blueberry aromas that follow through to a full-bodied palate with extremely polished tannins that caress your palate. Love the texture and purity to the wine. Fantastic. Try after 2025.

98 points, James Suckling (Mar 2021)

The 2018 Valandraud is every bit as compelling as it was from barrel, maybe more. Power and vertical, with tons of explosive energy, the 2018 dazzles right out of the gate. Inky dark cherry, plum, chocolate, spice, new leather, licorice and chocolate all race across the palate. The 2018 is a wine of tremendous stature that distinguishes itself in a vintage peppered with stunning wines. I would allow for a few years in bottle to help the tannins soften. I loved it.

97+ points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Mar 2021)

This release continues the great run of vintages from this estate, based in the eastern part of Saint-Emilion. Powerful tannins are echoed by sumptuous black-plum and berry flavors. The high alcohol shows in the density although this concentrated wine does stay comfortably in balance. It needs plenty of aging. Don’t drink before 2027.

97 points, Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast (May 2021)

Deep purple-black in color, the 2018 Valandraud is still sporting a fair bit of oak on the nose, with the cedary notions giving way to a profound core of Black Forest cake, stewed plums and boysenberry preserves, plus suggestions of espresso, clove oil, unsmoked cigars and charcuterie with a waft of Chinese five spice. The full-bodied palate is jam-packed with rich black fruit preserves, framed by sturdy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and tinged with exotic spices. It will need a good 5-6 years for everything to marry and for the nuances to be fully expressed, then enjoy it over the next 25+ years.

We've been working with the wines of Sébastien Dampt for a few vintages now, and the scion of one of Chablis' most prominent winemakers has found a strong following among our long-time Burgundy aficionados. After all, Sébastien is a staunch adherent to the "no oak" style, à la Louis Michel, and his wines reflect the kind of terroir purity that fetches a high premium from hardcore fans of classic, "old school" Chablis.

The 91-point 2024 Vaillons 1er Cru exhibits this style beautifully – understated when it needs to be while giving up just the right level of approachability to be enjoyable right out of the gate. With "excellent balance" and "rich and relatively generous" flavors, this 1er Cru is superb value for in a classically cool Chablis vintage. The "super-sleek, intense" village bottling is itself a real value champ too, notching Outstanding and Top Value designations from Burghound.

Working directly with the domaine, we were able to source a parcel at a by-far market-best price, so our savvy B-21 Burgundy fans can jump on a true exponent of pure Chablis terroir for a downright steal.

Classic, a bit closed on the initial attack but opens up on the palate with hints of nectarine, peach and white flowers. The harmony of fresh, crisp acidity and moderate body suggests this will please on release.

These aged Takamines are singular whiskies that showcase the full potential of the koji style. Uniquely Japanese and simply delicious, they're worth every penny. By far the oldest koji whisky I’ve ever tasted, the 26-Year-Old puts the entire category in complete perspective. It’s fabulous. This is the last of the original experimental casks laid down by Shinozaki in 1998, and a mere 600 bottles were filled for the global market. The closest comparison I can make is a fully mature, molasses-based rum. The dark mahogany color is, of course, a dead giveaway to the profile. The outstanding aromatic spectrum starts with old walnut furniture, dark pipe tobacco, balsamic, sandalwood, and savory pastry crust. Time and air bring out dried apple and cherry, treacle, potpourri, hoisin sauce, spiced orange peel, and plum sauce, followed by a third wave of burnt brownie, teriyaki, sarsaparilla, and caramelized root vegetables. Something new pops up with each return to the glass. The palate is defined by a vibrant, vivid textural presence and medium weight, with flavors smoked pepper, cola, clove, incredible umami complexity, and tons of dark dried fruit – prune, date, fig, currant. Secondary elements of anise, black licorice, tamari, hoisin, old leather ride out on a super-long finish of amazing textural balance.

From Beugnons, mostly 60 year old vines though one plot has just been replanted. Made in stainless steel and bottled in June. Pale lemon colour. Not much detail but some intensity. Here too there is a whiff of petrol though it's much more subtle on the nose of iodine, acacia, white pepper and mineral reduction. This could use better depth but a few years of keeping should address that.

A true rarity and singular whiskey, only 600 bottles were filled and released for the entire global market, making it a collectible gem of the highest order.

This 20 Year Old will have any serious spirits enthusiast falling in love with the koji whisky style. I cannot overstate how much incredible depth and complexity these whiskies exhibit when they’re at or near full maturity. This one is the result of four casks laid down in 2003 and 2004, and you can see that the distillery was really starting to find its groove with koji fermentation at this point. Remarkably lively yet loaded with depth, this is a pure joy to drink. The radiant bronze/copper color is very striking, as is the nose of concentrated citrus, Madagascar vanilla, baked apple and pear, sweet vanilla biscotti, and honeyed graham cracker. It’s incredibly layered and complex, inviting a lot of contemplation. Be patient and you’ll find a wide range of aromas , from pie crust, butterscotch, blood orange, golden raisins, brown sugar, and canela to banana cordial, touches of tropical fruit, and candied pecans. The palate presence is excellent with solid structure and texture, a medium-long finish, and deeply layered flavors centered around sweet oak spices (which are very well integrated), apple pie filling, nutmeg, and cookie dough. Time and air bring out dried apricot, nectarine, pumpkin bread, banana bread, while the lifted, grippy texture contrasts with medium-full weight on the finish. It’s an outstanding contrast to the 26 Year Old, and a remarkable introduction to properly aged koji whisky.
