The texture of this wine deftly balances the richness of ripe stone fruit with the grip of fruit skins, like apple and apricot. A hint of white pepper adds subtle complexity, while the finish feels fresh and elegant. Try it with toasted almonds.

Santa Margherita Prosecco Superiore, sourced from Glera grapes grown in Italy's Valdobbiadene wine-growing district, is truly a superior Prosecco, perhaps even the ideal of that sparking wine. We paid about $20 at a supermarket and consider it well worth the price. This very Champagne-like Prosecco is the one to bring out to wow your dinner guests. First and foremost this is a superb aperitif wine, its great abundance of tiny persistent bubbles perfect for waking up the palate. It makes a fine dessert course wine, too, alone or when paired with a wide array of sweets (Colette suggests cupcakes). But it also can be paired successfully with foods as rich and creamy as fettucine alfredo or as salty as charcuterie. Santa Margherita Prosecco proffers a fresh and zesty nose of lemon and toast cooled by a hint of stone. It sparkles on the tongue with more of that luscious lemon and toast abetted by a smidge of almond and light floral notes. It finishes long and dry and citrusy. Overall, this is a stunner of a sparkling wine, beautifully balanced and utterly refreshing.
