Scented with vanilla bean and a hint of milk chocolate, the bold, velvety palate offers black cherry and brandied cherry, leading into a bracing clove finish that is supplemented by hints of cocoa and lemon peel astringency. What's in the bottle: a blend of high-rye bourbons distilled in California and Indiana, aged a minimum of four years and bottled in California.

This California distiller names its whiskeys after redwood trees; this one is named for the 14th tallest tree in the world. Marshmallow and maplewood on the fairly closed nose. Generous vanilla greets you on the palate, with hints of almond and pecan nuttiness. A soft finish concludes with vanilla cake with frosting. Not a lot of layering or complexity to this one, but it’s a very pleasant sipper.
