Made from 65 year old vines in the centre of Vaillons which unfortunately were at the centre of the hail there. Pale in colour. A really refined bouquet, excellent purity, salivating long before I get to the finish, a little youthful bitterness at the finish adds to the tension and salinity.

The 2024 Chablis Vaillons Vieilles Vignes 1er Cru comes from 60-year-old vines that suffered hail damage. It has a complex, focused bouquet that's quite intense due to the low yield (20 hl/ha). The palate is citrus-fresh, edgy and tensile on the entry. It's almost steely for a Vaillons, with just a slight reduction lending energy on the finish. The 2024 has great potential.

The 2024 Chablis 1er Cru Les Vaillons Vieilles Vignes, sourced from 60-year-old vines in the Vaillons lieu-dit and vinified entirely in stainless steel, was severely affected by hail, yielding just 20 hectoliters per hectare. It wafts from the glass with aromas of pear, orange peel and beeswax, mingling with marine inflections that were less overt in 2023. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied and demonstrative yet incisive, laden with tangy acidity and concluding with a long, chalky finish. With considerable substance, this warm site has performed admirably in this cool vintage.
