We're back with the latest release of one of Washington's most consistently impressive overachievers, the double 98-point Motor City Kitty Syrah from the one-of-a-kind mad genius Charles Smith. For decades now, he's been flouting and re-writing the rules in the Washington wine scene to tremendous results, as K Vintners is annually one of the most acclaimed brands in the state.
Sourced entirely from the iconic Boushey Vineyard in Yakima Valley, the 2022 MCK is a gangbusters, thrill-a-minute expression that shows Smith "back on the warpath and re-energized in a way seldom seen," as Vinous' Eric Guido puts it. The vineyard on the south slopes of Rattlesnake Mountain is prime Syrah terroir, a cool site with long growing seasons and silty loam/basalt soils. True to Charles Smith form, the 2022 is "memorable particularly for its sense of purity and balance" even as it exhibits his trademark full-blown flamboyance and ripeness.
We've always loved this wine for its singular personality, but even more so for the astounding quality for price. Few if any double 98-point wines will deliver more bang for your buck than the Motor City Kitty, so fans should absolutely load up. |
