The bottled 2023 Arbois Pupillin Côte de Caillot, a Chardonnay from Bajocian limestone soils, came in at a moderate 12.5% alcohol and with contained ripeness, from a year of generous yields and agile wines. It started with smoky and toasty notes, a little reductive at first, revealing some creaminess and later a little evolved for its age. The palate is a little light, perhaps reflecting some dilution from the high yields of the year? It's pleasant and easy to drink but not terribly complex or deep. This saw only one year of élevage and was bottled in October 2024.
