Stunning peachy nose with a fascinating smoky touch. Super-structured and super-mineral with a great deal of drive, this medium-bodied and finely-nuanced wine reminds me of the great Wachau dry rieslings of the 1980s and early 1990s. Amalfi lemon zest, candied orange and a slew of delicate spicy aromas at the extremely long finish. Drink or hold.

The 2022 Riesling Steinporz Smaragd is a picture of citrus on the nose—juicy, spicy and so fresh, combining grapefruit, orange and tangerine in all their aromatic splendor. Grown on gneiss, this is taut, stony, fluid and brimming with citrus energy. Stony definition and zesty vigor set the tone and drive everything forward with energetic force. This is from three parcels of vines aged between 30 and 40 years. This is animating, long and aromatic. (Bone-dry)
