Very pure and minerally nose that delivers a stony, precise feel, almost like sniffing a quarry. Some smoked tarragon and lemon zest, too. Impressive mid-palate tension here with nervy acidity and minerality. Pure and long. Delicious now.

The 2021 Etna Bianco Archineri is a beautiful wine with the crystalline luminosity and bright aromas that you look for in a wine from Etna made with the popular Carricante grape. In this case, fruit comes from pre-phylloxera vines at 900 meters in elevation. There is some saltiness and crushed oyster shell with grapefruit, unripe peach and green apple. Production is 7,000 bottles.

This is a taut and linear Etna Bianco, opening with scents of yellow flowers and wisps of smoke that accent pure flavors of Meyer lemon and crisp green apple. Lively acidity is seamlessly woven into the bright fruit flavors, propelling them forward as the wine takes on pronounced saline notes on the long finish. Delicious now, this may be even better in a year.

Archineri hails from Contrada Caselle in Milo, and although this means it could be labelled as ‘Superiore’, I was told that the estate prefers to focus on its northern locality. Made from vines up to 120 years old, it's a gorgeous white with lemon and saline green fruits allied to a full structure with tons of sapidity. Long, stony and savoury, the finish displays juicy streaks of sweet pineapple, yellow plum and peach. Delicious!
