A firm and beautiful Barolo with dark strawberry, blueberry, raspberry and stone. Medium body. Fine and chewy tannins that show tension and give focus. A little chewy but it has great energy. Best after 2028.

This is a newish addition to the Ratti portfolio that ages for one year in barrique and one year in botte. The 2020 Barolo Serradenari (with 5,000 bottles produced) has quite a few themes to propose. One is sweet cherry fruit, another recalls mineral or iron ore, and you also get grilled herb and laurel leaf. Added to that is a dusty character of toasted chestnut shell. The vines are planted on typical bluish marl Tortoniano soils found in this area of La Morra.

The 2020 Barolo Serradenari pours a jeweled ruby hue and reveals refined, elegant layers that slowly unfold in the glass with notes of fresh raspberries, fresh rose petal, tarragon, and wet stones. It brings forward lovely energy through the palate, offering a nice balance of mouthwatering mineral accents and fresh acidity, with fine tannins and notes of dried apricot on the finish. It’s going to improve if given the chance, but it sure is hard to pass up now. Drink 2024-2040.

The 2020 Barolo Serradenari is complex and dynamic in the glass. Macerated wild cherry, menthol, spice, leather and tobacco are beautifully amplified in this expressive, virile Barolo with notable structure. Deceptive in its mid-weight build, the 2020 certainly packs a punch.
