Rare, thrilling and luminous - it's difficult to overstate the appeal of the single vineyard 2020 Condrieu Chery crafted by masterful third generation winemaker Remi Niero, a luscious dry white wine from the Northern Rhone. Produced from his family's vineyards of 100% Viognier, the 95pt 2020 Remi Niero Condrieu Chery offers lush aromatics with ripe, layered fruit, vibrant acidity and a hint of minerality from one of the region's top producers, ready to enjoy at an outstanding price.

Established by his grandfather as one of the oldest wineries in Condrieu, Remi Niero assumed the reins of his family's Domaine Niero in 2004, implementing sustainable viticultural practices while emphasizing the unique qualities of each vineyard in his winemaking. Produced exclusively from the family's single vineyard parcel overlooking the Rhone, the organically farmed Coteau de Chery lieu-dit is a small, steeply terraced plot just under a hectare in total, planted with vines averaging 30 years of age on the region's decomposed granite soil known as "arzelle." Fermenting in stainless steel to preserve freshness, Remi aged 40% of the 2020 Condrieu Chery in used French oak barrels, stirring the lees over 12 months, and aged the remaining 60% in stainless steel, striking a balance between the creamy, palate-coating fruit flavors and an energetic mineral-tinged acidity.

From an excellent Northern Rhone vintage producing "wines with harmony and finesse" according to Decanter, the 95pt 2020 Remi Niero Condrieu Chery balances opulent fruit and palate-cleansing acidity on an elegant, lingering finish, and as critic Jeb Dunnuck simply states, is truly a thrill to drink.

The 2020 Condrieu Chery is slightly more reductive, yet still has brilliant notes of white peach, crushed stone, spice, and honeyed white flowers. Brilliant on the palate as well, with medium-bodied richness, integrated acidity, and a great finish, it's another stunning wine from this estate I'd be thrilled to drink.

There are about 4,000 bottles of the 2020 Condrieu Chéry, a terrific effort from one of the appellation's most famous lieux-dits. Floral and creamy, it's full-bodied and lush, loaded with flowers and fruit, concentrated and rich yet completely harmonious and not heavy at all. It should drink well for several years.
